Velma (Areford) Ketter, 89, on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001. Wife of the late John Ketter; loving mother of Shirley Bartel and Velma C. Mulhern; dear grandmother of Eric and Kelly Bartel; sister of Lonard Areford, Margaret Randolph, Edna McClure and Ervin Areford. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 1225 Chartiers Ave., McKees Rocks, (Family owned and operated since 1886), where a blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday. Interment in West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, W.Va.

William Charles Mehaffey, 42, of North Versailles, on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001. Born Dec. 31, 1958, in McKeesport, he was a son of Laura B. Painter Mehaffey of Liberty Borough and the late William U. Mehaffey. He was the owner and proprietor of Mehaffey's Garage in North Versailles. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Charles A. Mehaffey at home; three sisters, Sandra M. Baskin of Long Island, N.Y., Sue A. Mehaffey of Liberty Borough and Cynthia D. Mehaffey of East McKeesport. Also surviving are a niece and two nephews. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JAYCOX-JAWORSKI FUNERAL HOME INC., 2703 O'Neil Blvd. at Fawcett Avenue, McKeesport, where funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. with Charles Owston, minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Jefferson Memorial Park, Pleasant Hills.
Collier Township
Verne W. Ranalli, 81, on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001. He was a World Warr II Army veteran, member of the VFW and American Legion. In 1953 he founded Southwest Aluminum and Glass Co. Inc. Survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Marion (Zak) Ranalli; a son, Joseph (Jane) of Venetia; a daughter, LaVerne (Philip) Cichon of Pine and a son, James (Jacqueline) of Venetia; six grandchildren; brother of Tory and Genevieve Rossi, both of Dormont and the late Nick of Shaler and Pavy Giovannucci of Bellevue. Visitation will be at the WILLIAM SLATER II FUNERAL SERVICE, 1650 Greentree Road, Scott Township, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Funeral Mass at SS. Simon and Jude Church at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Route 19 South, Peters Township. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Lung Association.

Maria (Kispal) Sagi, 76, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001. Wife of the late Andrew Sagi and the late Joseph Peto Sr. Mother of Joseph Peto Jr.; also survived by two grandchildren. Mrs. Sagi was a member of St. Ann's Choir. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the ELMER L. HERMAN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5204 Second Ave., Hazelwood, John N. Bauer, supervisor. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Monday in St. Stephen's Church, Second Street, Hazelwood.
Murrysville
Lois Jean Sampson, 69, of Murrysville, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001. She was born July 29, 1932, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late John Tomer Wurmb and Zelma Mae McLaughlin. She also was preceded in death by a brother. She was a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Murrysville. She is survived by her husband, Ronald Sampson; four children, Scott and his wife, Royce, of Charleston, S.C., Stanley and his wife, Lisa, of Marietta, Ga., Mark and his wife, Sharon, of Monroeville and Kym Sampson of Pittsburgh; and four grandchildren, Kara, Chase, Erica and Kirby Sampson. A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in St. Alban's Episcopal Church, Murrysville, with the Rev. Myron J. Manasterski officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 4920 Cline Hollow Road, Murrysville, PA 15668.
West Deer Township
Dale D. Scott, 91, died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in Concordia Nursing Home. He was born in Gibsonia on Sept. 11, 1910, the son of Dain and May Scott. Beloved husband of Eleanor (Van Derlin) Scott who died May 5, 2001. Father of the late Dain Van Derlin; brother of Grace Heist of Butler; also two grandchildren. In addition to his wife, sons and parents he was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Friends received from 9 a.m. to the time of service at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. The Rev. Nick Protos of the Gospel Fellowship Church will officiate. Interment in Deer Creek Church Cemetery. If desired, donation may be made to a charity of choice. Mr. Scott was a retired supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of Gospel Fellowship Church in Valencia.
Cranberry Township and Port St
John J. Sismour, 75, died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, in UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless. He was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Pittsburgh, son of Albert and Hilda Bauer Sismour. Mr. Sismour was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the 86th Blackhawk Division Association. He worked in the steel industry as a metal fabricator. Survived by his wife, Rose Mary (Smith) Sismour; his son, Kevin Sismour of Marshall Township; his daughter, Renee Byard of Indianapolis, Ind.; his brothers, Albert Sismour of Saxonburg and James Sismour of Shaler; his sister, Gertrude Bezila of Pittsburgh; his grandchildren, Jack, Clay, Colin, Kendall and Danielle. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. There will be no public visitation. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Ferdinand Church in Cranberry Township at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Arrangements under the direction of HERBERT R. KING JR. FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 8 at 2841 Woodland Circle, Allison Park, Hampton Township. Memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation.

Alice (Skinner) Sonovick, on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, age 81, of Wilmerding. Daughter of the late Eugene Sr. and Mary (Wright) Skinner. Beloved wife of Albert "Al" Sonovick; sister of the late Eugene Jr., Gaylord, Fred and Paul Skinner and Evelyn Coon. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and by all who loved her. Mary A. (Campbell) Smeltzer Baughman, 82, of Latrobe, formerly of Greensburg, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born Jan. 1, 1919, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Arthur and Nellie Shirley Campbell. Prior to retirement, she had been employed by Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg, and was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth J. Smeltzer, in 1974; by two brothers, James and Albert Campbell; and a sister, Margaret Sabato. She is survived by her husband, George Baughman; two sons, John E. and his wife, Ella Campbell, of Dudley, N.C., and Kenneth J. Jr. and his wife, Frances Smeltzer, of Uniontown; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Shirley) Fortney of Virginia Beach, Va., and Mrs. Robert (Linda) Quinlisk of Galt, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three brothers, William A. Campbell of New Jersey, Richard E. Campbell of Newport News, Va., and Glenn C. Campbell of Colorado; four sisters, Betty Anderson of Apollo, Rebecca Exton of Hawaii, Mrs. William (Shirley) Leech in Tennessee and Mrs. Donald (Patricia) Oatman of Dearborn Heights, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Latrobe. Private interment
will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Loretto, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association, 615 S. Main St., Greensburg, PA 15601, or the charity of one's choice.

Betty Lilley Beal, 60, of Wooddale, Bullskin Township, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, in her home. She was born June 11, 1941, in Bullskin Township, a daughter of the late Albert "Bert" and Lottie J. Anderson Lilley. She attended Connellsville High School and had been employed by Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, for the past 17 years. She was a member of the Hospital Employees Union and the Church of God on Lawn Avenue, Greenwood Heights, Connellsville. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Bob Beal; seven children, Steven Lilley and wife, Joscelyn, of Mill Run, Jeffrey DeLorenzo of Pennsylvania, Robert Beal Jr. and wife, Vicki, of Hammondville, Larry Beal and wife, Eileen, of Latrobe, Jeffrey Beal and wife, Brenda, of Scottdale, Jackie Beal Keefer and husband, Charles, of Scottdale and Lorie Beal Solomon and husband, Drew, of Alverton; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Albert "Sonny" Lilley and wife, Connie, William Lilley and Rick Lilley and wife, Patty, all of Connellsville; and three sisters, Bonita Mitchell and husband, William, of Connellsville, Dona Flasco of Youngstown, Ohio, and Patty Burchfield and husband, Charles, of Warren, Ohio. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Alberta Pritts. Friends will be received Tuesday from noon to 9 p.m. at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E.
