Leona M. (Klassen) Scally, 79, on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001. Beloved wife of Peter F. Scally; loving mother of Patricia L. Miller and the late James J. Miller; grandmother of James Miller, Leone J. Miller, Honey A. Morton and the late Damon Kirkland. Survived by eight great-grandchildren. Sister of Jack Klassen, and the late Mary Truxel, Helen Judge, Robert and Edward Klassen; sister-in-law of Ed and Harriet Tucker. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mt. Lebanon
Ann Sefchek, 85, of Mt. Lebanon, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, in St. Clair Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born Nov. 1, 1916, in Greensburg, a daughter of the late Ignatius and Anna (Brenzovich) Yaczola. Prior to retirement, Mrs. Sefchek spent her career in the nursing field, during which time she received a U.S. patent. She also enjoyed still-life painting and did volunteer work with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Steven M. Sefchek; and a brother, Steven Yaczola. Mrs. Sefchek is survived by her son, Steven Sefchek of Mt. Lebanon; five sisters, Helen Dally of Pittsburgh, Mary Ann Kaiser and her husband Ervin of Phoenix, Ariz., Stella Grebner and her husband Lawrence of Pittsburgh, Sophie Kreitz of Irwin, and Margaret Weber and her husband Charles Jr. of North Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews. Friends received in the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Herminie, with the Rev. Gregory Michalisin as celebrant. Interment will follow in Visitation Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant.

Joan B. (Shellenbarger) Smetak, 73, of Vernon Hills, Ill., formerly of Irwin, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, in Libertyville, Ill. She was born April 4, 1928, in Pittsburgh, the daughter of the late Herbert and Blanche (Bates) Shellenbarger. She had been employed as a secretary by Robertshaw Controls, and had retired from Signet Bank in Richmond, Va. She attended Robert Morris Business School, Pittsburgh. Survivors include her husband, George Smetak; a son, Edward Smetak of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Carol Fijalkiewicz and husband, Joseph, of Mundelein, Ill.; her twin brother, John Shellenbarger of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandsons, Michael and Matthew Fijalkiewicz. Friends will be received Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin. Service will be held in the Rodgers funeral home chapel Tuesday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Darlene Williams officiating. Interment

Evelyn C. Sommer, age 84, died in her daughter's home in Ross on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001. She was born in Pittsburgh on April 28, 1917, daughter of the late Nelson and Clara Duft. Mrs. Sommer was an Avon representative for over 30 years. Survived by two daughters, Janice C. McSorley of Ross and Carol A. Christy of Ohio. Grandmother of Martin, Frank, Kevin, Timothy and Daniel McSorley, Kimberly Thoma, Susan Pallow and Jeanine and Gary Christy. Also survived by 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Frank J. Sommer. Visitation Monday 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the T.B. DEVLIN FUNERAL HOME, 806 Perry Highway, Ross. Alice (Skinner) Sonovick, on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, age 81, of Wilmerding. Daughter of the late Eugene Sr. and Mary (Wright) Skinner. Beloved wife of Albert "Al" Sonovick; sister of the late Eugene Jr., Gaylord, Fred and Paul Skinner and Evelyn Coon. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and by all who loved her. Joseph John Volpe, 71, on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001. Beloved husband of Anita T. (Manganaro) Volpe. Beloved father of Joseph M. Volpe and Debra Ann Volpe, both of Ross. Brother of the late Rosemarie Cromer. Brother-in-law of Constance and Raymond Samuels of Ross. Mr. Volpe was retired from Sears Roebuck and Co., where he had been a sales and price analyst. Previously, he had held similar positions with Levinson Steel, and Lockhart Iron and Steel. He had served with the U.S. Navy and spent over 30 years in the Naval Reserves. He had been a participant for many years in the retreats at St. Paul's Monastery on the South Side. Friends invited Monday and Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the ORION C. Mary Ann (Yandrick) Wallak, 45, of Latrobe RR1, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, in her home. She was born Dec. 5, 1955, in Latrobe, a daughter of Michael and Catherine (Klimchock) Yandrick of Hostetter. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Richard J. Wallak; her son, Joseph Andrew Wallak, at home; four brothers, Michael and wife, Marty, of Hostetter, Jerome and wife, Sherri, of Latrobe RD1, Kevin and wife, Pam, of Latrobe and Charles Yandrick and fiancee, Nadine, of Hostetter; two sisters, Regina Stiver and husband, Larry, of Raleigh, N.C., and Roberta Yandrick of Hostetter; her mother-in-law, Eleanor Jean Wallak Paterchak and husband, Matthew, of Latrobe RD3; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the GAUT-BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., Pleasant Unity, where a blessing service will be held Wednesday at 9:20 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Whitney, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Chad R. Ficorilli, O.S.B., as celebrant. Interment will be private. The St. Cecilia parish will meet Tuesday at 2:45 p.m. in the funeral home to pray the rosary.
Buddy Bryan, 83, formerly of Irwin, a longtime resident of El Paso, Texas, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in El Paso. He was born March 14, 1916, in Ford City, a son of the late Saad and Elizabeth (Aziz) Bryan. He was a self-employed businessman. Mr. Bryan was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and a member of the El Maida Shrine and Shidle Lodge #601 F&AM. He was a graduate of Ford City High School. He was a worker with Westinghouse Air Brake and a Las Cruces businessman, prior to retirement. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary (Beter) Bryan; a daughter, Barbara Whittenton and husband, Jesse, of Santa Teresa, N.M.; a son, Robert Bryan and wife, Eileen, of Morristown, N.J.; grandchildren, Kimberly Wilkie, Michelle Evans, and Cameron Bryan; a great-grandson, Robert J. Wilkie; former son-in-law, Charles Evans of El Paso, Texas; a brother, James Bryan of Dearborn, Mich.; a sister, Rose Krall of West Mifflin; several nieces and nephews, and cousins. Friends will be received at the VINCENT V. RODGERS FUNERAL HOME, 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. with Trisagion services at 8 p.m. Service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Orthodox Church in Greensburg with Father John Nosal officiating. Frank A. Cipra, 81, of Irwin RD1 (Lowber Road), died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at his home. He was born June 17, 1918, in Hahntown, a son of the late Frank A. and Josephine (Zarobsky) Cipra. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a plumber and steam fitter, and was a member of the Plumber and Steam Fitters Union Local #354, with 50 years of service. He was also the owner and operator of the Cipra Dairy Farm, Sewickley Township, for 40 years. He was a World War II veteran, having served with the U.S. Navy Seabees. His memberships included: the Czechoslovakian Society of America and the American Legion, Hahntown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Gloria L. (Mosso) Cipra, in 1992; two sisters, Olga Brown and Mary Jane Johns; and two brothers, Alfred and Gordon Cipra. Mr. Cipra is survived by four daughters, Cheryl Iwinski and her husband, James, of Pahrump, Nev., Laurel Scott and her husband, Norbert, of Glen Burnie, Md., Denise Basara and her husband, Nicholas, of Herminie, and Kimberly Leone and her husband, Guy, of Greensburg; a son, Frank G. Cipra, at home; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alvin Cipra of Irwin and Roland Cipra of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; a sister, Erna Sensenich of Irwin; three nieces; and his special companion, "Raven, " a black Labrador Retriever, who rode along with Frank daily. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with pastor Chuck Hildbold officiating. George Draghi, 62, of Export, on Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999. Born Feb. 4, 1937, in Export, a son of the late Antonio and Amelie Callauid Draghi. He was a member of the Italian American Club, Export. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Peonoske. Surviving are a son, Michael of Greensburg; three brothers, Aldo of Slickville, Anthony and wife, Linda, of Delmont, and Eugene of Export; four sisters, Mary, and Yvonne Stimmell and husband, Sam, all of Export, Frances Mattie of Delmont, and Lorraine of Youngwood; and a grandson, Nicholas.
