Formerly of McKeesport
Katherine Anastasia (Mislevy) Hazaga, 94, of Greensburg, formerly of McKeesport, Pa., and Cary, N.C., died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Dec. 26, 1906, in Patton, a daughter of the late Stephen and Anastasia (Puch) Mislevy. She was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish, Latrobe, and a former member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Cary, N.C. She was also a former member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, McKeesport, where she was active in church functions, including serving as president of the Christian Mothers Guild and International Days at Renzie Park. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Hazaga; four sisters, Mary, Sue and Rose Mislevy of Pittsburgh and Ann Homyak of Patton; five brothers, George, Michael, John, Joseph and Andrew of Pittsburgh; and a granddaughter, Cara Wingertzahn of Ogden, Utah. She is survived by two daughters, Catherine Wingertzahn and her husband, James, of Ogden, Utah and Mimi Gromek and her husband, Edward, of Greensburg; a son, Robert Hazaga and his wife, Joan, of Lakeland, Fla.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the BACHA FUNERAL HOME INC., 516 Stanton at Green streets, Greensburg, Thursday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent Basilica, Latrobe. Interment will follow in the New St. Joseph Cemetery, Route 30, North Versailles Township. The family would like to thank the Felician Sisters and staff at the St. Anne Home for the care and compassion given to Katherine Hazaga.
Westmoreland City
Kathryn R. Kelso, 82, of Westmoreland City, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Cordia Commons, North Huntingdon Township. She was born Feb. 16, 1919, in Butler County, a daughter of the late Michael and Mary Nichie Racioppo. She was a retired employee of the Norwin School District, and a former employee of the William Snyder Funeral Home, Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Kelso, in 1979; two brothers, John and Charles Racioppo; and a sister, Dorothy Hagar. She is survived by two sons, Edward H. Kelso Jr. and his wife, Pat, of Irwin and Robert L. Kelso and his wife, Dottie, of Westmoreland City; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Daniel Racioppo of Plum Borough and Robert Racioppo of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Ruth Kelso of Ligonier; and a very dear friend, Andy Vargo of Irwin. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Service will be held Thursday in the funeral home (time later). Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley Cemetery.

Frank J. Keppel Sr., age 80, on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001. He was born in McKees Rocks on Nov. 26, 1920. Beloved husband of the late Kathryn Keppel; loving father of Kathleen (Harry) Plas and Frank (LuAnn) Keppel Jr.; dear grandfather of Casandra (James), Danelle, Harry Jr. and Jonathan; brother of Bertha Rolan. Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the MCDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1225 Chartiers Ave, McKees Rocks (Family owned and operated since 1886). Berwyn E. Lake, 79, on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, in Jefferson Center Hospital, Jefferson Hills. He was born in Hopwood, Fayette County, Nov. 8, 1922, son of the late Charles and Mollie Sumey Lake. Mr. Lake was co-owner of J&L TV in Elizabeth. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as a technician 5th grade, and received the Bronze Star. Husband of the late Shirley Ann (Joll) Lake; father of Patricia Davis of Streetsboro, Ohio, Catherine Lake of San Francisco, Calif., and Harry L. Lake of Liberty Boro; brother of Lorraine Emerson of Port Richey, Fla., and Betty Brown of Cape Coral, Fla. Also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Visitation Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the PAUL E. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, 221 Second St., Elizabeth. Funeral Service in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at noon with the Rev. Thomas Carr. Lucille M. "Lou" Leonard, 63, of Warner Robins, Ga., died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001. She was born April 11, 1938, in Trafford, and had lived in Warner Robins since 1961. Mrs. Leonard was a retired bookkeeper and a member of Faith Lutheran Church. Survivors include her husband, Calvin G. "Skip" Leonard; children, Debra and Dale Enochs of Herman, Mo., Jeffrey and Amy Leonard of Warner Robins, Jack and Stephanie Leonard of Centerville, and Jill and Mark Buchanan of Warner Robins; her mother, Eva F. Cush of Warner Robins; and grandchildren, Matthew and Haley Leonard and Zachary and Joshua Buchanan. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, Warner Robins, Ga., where service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. followed by entombment at Parkway Memorial Gardens. Carla Sara (McCloskey) McCarthy, 40, died of breast cancer on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in her home. She was born Feb. 10, 1961, in Pittsburgh. Mrs. McCarthy was a pharmacy technician with Eckerd Drug for 15 years. She was a member of St. Victor Roman Catholic Church in Bairdford and was an active supporter of the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. McCarthy; her daughter, Melissa McCarthy; her mother, Sara McCloskey of Pittsburgh; her brother, Michael McCloskey of Pompano Beach, Fla.; her sister, Michelle Sieg of West Deer; and her nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the HERBERT R. KING, JR. Martin Molina, 91, of Latrobe, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Loyalhanna, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Barbero Molina. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe, and its Holy Name Society. He was retired from the former Davis Supermarket, Greensburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 515, Latrobe and the Derry VFW. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary L. Levendusky Molina, on Dec. 11, 2000; and a brother, Dominick Molina. Survivors include a brother, Charles Molina; two sisters, Catherine Mania and Josephine Cinibulk, all of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Interment

Thomas Carl Nelson, 40, of Penn, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001. He was born June 1, 1961, in Jeannette, a son of Claire C. and Helen Remaley Nelson of Penn. He was formerly employed by Parsons Co. in Los Angeles, Calif. He was a member of the Penn Evangelical Lutheran Church, Penn Rod and Gun Club, Polish Brotherhood of White Eagle, FOE 844 and a social member of VFW Post 8240, Jeannette. He was preceded in death by a niece, Sheri Nelson. In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, James C. Nelson and his wife, Lori, of Rillton and Donald C. Nelson and his wife, Tammy, of Penn; two nieces, Carrie and Stacy Nelson; and a goddaughter, Lisa Dreistadt. There will be no public viewing or visitation. Services and interment

The Rev. Julius Paal, 85, died in his home on Sunday, Nov. 18, 2001. He was born in Diosviszlo, Hungary, on Feb. 16, 1916. He completed his elementary school education under the tutelage of his father, the late Zoltan Paal. His mother, the late Margaret Lukacs, continued his instruction in the absence of his father during the first World War. Mr. Paal graduated from Gimnazium Junior College in Bonyhad, Hungary, with a Diploma of Maturation in 1933. He attended the Budapest Reformed Theological Academy from 1933-37, graduating with a bachelor of theology degree. The Rev. Paal then came to the United States of America to attend Princeton Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Princeton, N.J., where he received his master of theology degree in 1939. The Rev. Paal was a supply pastor of the First Hungarian Reformed Church, Bethlehem, Pa., from 1938-43. He was elected to the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Homestead as a full-time, ordained and installed pastor from 1943-68. While there, he also served as vice president of the Magyar Calvin Synod. He was pastor of the Dayton, Ohio, Hungarian Reformed Church from 1968-69, and the Hungarian Reformed Church in Los Angeles, Calif., from 1969-81. He returned to the Munhall-Homestead area in 1993. The Rev. Julius Paal is survived by his two daughters, Suzanne H. (George) Altman of Gibsonia and Victoria E. Reusch of West Homestead; a granddaughter, Helen Lillie Reusch; his sister, Zsuzsanna (Anschau) Sarkaov of Pecs, Hungary; a niece, Zsuzsanna Anschau; and three nephews, Laci, Endre and Gabor Anschau. Visitation will be Monday, Dec. 3, from 7 to 9 p.m., with a Wake Service at 7:30 p.m. in the J. PAUL MCCRACKEN FUNERAL CHAPEL, 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. On Tuesday, Dec. 4, following a brief 12:30 p.m. service in the McCracken Funeral Home, the service will continue in the Bethlen Home Chapel at 1 p.m. The Right Rev. Louis Medgyesi, Bishop of the Calvin Synod, United Church of Christ, will preside along with the Right Rev. Dr. Francis Vitez, Bishop Emeritus, and other clergy. Solo selections will be sung by Victoria E. Reusch, accompanied by her sister, Suzanne H. Altman. The Rev. Paal will be laid to rest in Ligonier Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlen Home, 125 Kalassay Drive, Ligonier, PA 15658-8726. Arrangements in Pittsburgh handled by the T.B. Harry E. Painter Jr., 76, of Florida, formerly of Level Green, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, in Florida. He was born in Pitcairn, a son of the late Harry Sr. and Bertha Mae Young Painter. He was a retired supervisor of Westinghouse in Trafford. He was a longtime captain of the Spring Hill Fire Police, dispatcher for the Spring Hill Fire and Rescue and a former member of the Level Green V.F.D. He also served several terms as a Penn Township auditor. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Club in Spring Hill, American Legion Post 0186 and the VFW. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma and his second wife, Margaret. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Painter; three sons, Harry E. Painter III and his wife, Janice, of Greensburg, Ray Danhires and his wife, Donna, of Spring Hill and Gregg Danhires and his wife, P.J., of Lexington, Ky.; four daughters, Susan McAlister and her husband, Tom, of Penn, Lydia Middleton and her husband, Mark, of Greensburg, Kathy Dolphin and her husband, Gene, of San Diego, Calif., and Bunnie Wirsing and her husband, Jim, of North Huntingdon; two brothers, Clyde Painter and his wife, Edith, of Naples, Fla., and Dennis Painter and his wife, Betty, of North Versailles; 20 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., 504 Oak St., Irwin, Friday from 10 to 11 a.m., at which time a service will be held in the funeral home chapel.
