Joseph A. Konchak, 74, of North Huntingdon, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in UPMC McKeesport. He was born April 5, 1925, in Wall, a son of the late Stephen and Mary Kralovic Konchak. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad/McKeesport Connecting Railroad as an electrician. He was a member of St. Stephen's Byzantine Catholic Church, North Huntingdon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Karasinski and Helen Bonczewski; and two brothers, George and John Konchak. He is survived by his wife, Adelaide Cervo Konchak; two daughters, Bernadette Alba of Winter Springs, Fla., and Elizabeth Campbell of North Huntingdon; three brothers, Anthony of Turtle Creek, Frank of Wall and Steve Konchak of North Huntingdon; four sisters, Sister Mary Sophia of Coraopolis, Mary Caso of Brooklyn, N.Y., Agnes Sigler of Elizabeth Township, and Margaret Olczewski of Avalon; and five grandchildren. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Services and interment
will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western PA, 555 Grant St., Suite 425, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.
Joseph A. Malago, 52, of Greensburg, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg. He was born Nov. 13, 1947, in Uniontown, a son of the late Albert E. Sr. and Agnes M. Brajdic Malago. He was retired from Hempfield Foundries. He was a member of St. Bruno Church and the American Legion Post 981 of South Greensburg. Survived by two children, Joseph Malago and Chrissy Malago, both of Greenville, S.C.; three brothers, Albert Malago Jr. and wife, Janet, of Manor, Ron Malago of Crabtree, and Richard Malago of Canfield, Ohio; a sister, Elizabeth "Dolly" Baca and husband, Santo, of Crabtree; a special friend, Sandy Rangler of Jeannette; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held in the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME, 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, (724) 837-0020, Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Father Blane Resko, O.S.B., officiating. Cora Ada Ross, 96, of Derry, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, in Loyalhanna Care Center. She was born Oct. 27, 1903, in Robinson, a daughter of the late John F. and Ollie Viola Bowers Moore. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Derry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis N. Ross Sr. on June 29, 1960; two brothers, Wilbert and Everett Moore; and two sisters, Clara Hall and Viola Goffner. She is survived by two sons, Paul F. and his wife Jean Ross of Whispering Pines, North Carolina, and Lewis N. and his wife Ann Ross of Mentor, Ohio; a brother, Roy S. Moore of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and a sister, Mary Yeager of Latrobe; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, where services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David D. Wilson Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Coles Cemetery, Derry.
Nick Spino, 77, of Greensburg, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at home. He was born May 6, 1922, in Greensburg, a son of the late Angelo Spino and Philimeno Fortana Spino Pardi. He was retired from the Elliott Co. with over 35 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army; a member of the Moose, VFW Post 33 and American Legion Post 981. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Trout Spino; his stepfather, Justin Pardi; two sons, John and Thomas Poole; and three brothers, John, Ralph, and Matthew Spino. Survived by a daughter, Judy Stalnaker of Greensburg; a son, Donald Poole; two sisters, Elizabeth Felice of Burlington, N.J., and Victoria Spino of Greensburg; a brother, Justin Pardi and wife, Rose, of Latrobe; 12 grandchildren, David, Thomas, Becky, Shelly and Cassandra Poole, Brenda Rekouche, Robert "Willie", Tim, and Joe Williams, Nikki Hughes, Chris Johnson, and Donna Stairs, and their families; nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Peggy Spino of Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful dog, Corkey and cat, Purr Purr. Relatives and friends received at the CLEMENT L. PANTALONE FUNERAL HOME, 409 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, (724) 837-0020, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Greensburg. Father Edward C. Tajc, 72, a retired priest of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Greensburg, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, in the St. Anne Home, Greensburg. Friends were received Sunday and Monday at the HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., 139 W. Fayette St., Uniontown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, Uniontown, with Greensburg Bishop Anthony G. Bosco as main celebrant. Interment St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Brookvale, where military honors will be accorded by Amvets Post 103 of Hopwood. Father Tajc will be remembered by his family as a humble, caring pastor with a special gift of listening and making each member of his congregation feel important. He was a "regular guy" who helped bring the people of Fayette and Armstrong counties closer to God. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Sisters of Mary Immaculate, St. Joseph's Center, 2900 Seminary Drive, Greensburg, PA 15601.
Daniel Joseph Teres, 50, of Smithton (South Huntingdon Township), died suddenly Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at his home. He was born Sept. 20, 1949, in McKeesport, a son of the late Donald and Josephine Stih Teres. Along with his wife, he was the owner of C&D Construction and Trucking Company. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army. Also, he was a member of the American Legion in Smithton and VFW Post 7812 in West Newton, and an avid race car fan. He is survived by his loving wife, Christine Anderson Teres; a daughter, Heather Teres Schmidt and her husband, Arnie, and a granddaughter, Courtney, of Greensburg; a daughter, Stacy Lynn Teres of Virginia; a brother, David John Teres and his wife, Elsa, of Saltsburg; a sister, Deborah Jo DeClaudio and her husband, Brian, of Sutersville; and numerous aunts and uncles, and nieces and nephews. Friends received at the RICHARD F. DODSON FUNERAL HOME, 213 Main St., West Newton, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Velma E. Ash, 69, of Acme, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, at her home. She was born March 1, 1932, in Saltlick Township, a daughter of the late Rudolph and Beulah Snyder Chearney. Velma was a member of St. Raymond of the Mountains Roman Catholic Church, Donegal. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Edward Chearney. She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Ash; four children, Betty Moore of Ruffsdale, Robert F. Ash and John Wayne Ash and his wife, Marian, all of Acme, and Brenda Ash of Ruffsdale; four grandchildren, Christian James Moore, Kelly Ann Moore, Ryan Todd Moore and Erica Marie Ash; four brothers, Homer Chearney and his wife, Alice, of Acme, Dale Chearney and his wife, Shirley, of Donegal, George Chearney and his wife, Wilda, and Herbert Chearney and his wife, Donna, all of Acme; and two sisters, Phyllis Mentzer and her husband, Pete, of the state of Virginia and Katherine Jones and her husband, James, of Pawley's Island, S.C. She was born in Port Perry on Oct. 29, 1918, a daughter of the late John and Mary (Galuska) Kukurin. Mrs. Dembec was the former owner of the Stanley Dembec Funeral Home, Wilmerding, and former owner of Monroeville Beer Distributor. She was also a former member of St. Leocadia Church and its Rosary Society. Wife of the late Stanley "Sam" Dembec; mother of Sandy (Dembec) Keller of North Versailles; grandmother of Kim (Terry) Brennan and Kelly (Jos) Jarnot; sister of William and James Kukurin and Rose Grubbs, all of Monroeville, and the late Dorothy Bialon, Martha Walsh and John Kukurin.
