Berwyn E. Lake, 79, on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, in Jefferson Center Hospital, Jefferson Hills. He was born in Hopwood, Fayette County, Nov. 8, 1922, son of the late Charles and Mollie Sumey Lake. Mr. Lake was co-owner of J&L TV in Elizabeth. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army as a technician 5th grade, and received the Bronze Star. Husband of the late Shirley Ann (Joll) Lake; father of Patricia Davis of Streetsboro, Ohio, Catherine Lake of San Francisco, Calif., and Harry L. Lake of Liberty Boro; brother of Lorraine Emerson of Port Richey, Fla., and Betty Brown of Cape Coral, Fla. Also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Visitation Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the PAUL E. BEKAVAC FUNERAL HOME, 221 Second St., Elizabeth. Funeral Service in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at noon with the Rev. Thomas Carr. Patrick J. Leary Sr., 52, of Derry, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born Aug. 22, 1949, in Allison Park, he was a sales representative in Special Products Services and a 30-year employee of Timken-Latrobe Steel. He was one of the founders of the "Mudcats" baseball team and renovators of Shrum Field, Derry. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Derry. He was preceded in death by his stepfather and his mother, Morris Jr. and Maxine M. Lipinski; two brothers, Jeffrey L. and Roger L. Leary; a nephew, Ahmed Makled; and his mother-in-law, Lillian Zuchegno. Patrick is survived by his wife, Roseanne Zuchegno Leary; a son and a daughter, Patrick J. Jr. and Colleen A. Leary, both of Pittsburgh; three sisters, Mrs. Kevin (Victoria) Stout of Derry, Mrs. Hamdy (May C.) Makled of Florida and Judy Lipinski of Bradenville; his father-in-law, Dwight Zuchegno of Derry; a brother-in-law, David Zuchegno and his wife, Kerry, of Latrobe; a sister-in-law, Debra Zuchegno of Monroeville; numerous nieces and nephews; and four grandnieces. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MICHAEL J. QUINLISK FUNERAL HOME INC., 548 N. Chestnut St., Derry. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph Church. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Derry.
Norvelt
Michael R. Luckage, 78, of Norvelt, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born in Forbes Road, Pa., Sept. 25, 1923, he was a son of the late Michael and Anna Kalata Luckage. He belonged to St. Florian Catholic Church, United. Prior to retirement, he had been employed by Brown Boveri in South Greensburg, and was a professional house painter. He was a life member of the Norvelt Volunteer Fire Department, a charter member of AMVETS Post 94 of United and a member of VFW Post 3368 in Mt. Pleasant. A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was inducted into the Marines on July 28, 1942, at age 17. He received his basic training at Parris Island, S.C., and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He shipped to Hawaii from Newport News, Va., and joined the 4th Division on Maui Island. His tour of duty included Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. Mike was wounded by shrapnel and received a Purple Heart. He ended his career with the Marines on Nov. 7, 1945. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Kissell Luckage, in 1992; a son, Michael, in 1986; and two sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Grega and Helen Wisnewski. He was the loving father of Judi Luckage of Youngstown, Pa., Mary Jane Sherbondy and husband, Billy R., of Norvelt, Carol Miscovich and husband, Tom, of Norvelt, Susan Poklembo and husband, Steve, of Mutual and Lori Harr and husband, Mark, of Mt. Pleasant; loving brother of Pauline Christie of Somerset and Mary Jane Kissell of Calumet; and loving grandfather of Yvonne Cook, Patty Ennis, Julie O'Hare, Billy Sherbondy, Michael Sherbondy and Nick Mizikar. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the JAY A. HOFFER FUNERAL HOME, Norvelt, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Blessing service will be held in the funeral home at 9:20 a.m. Friday, followed by a funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Florian Catholic Church with the Rev. John M. Foriska as celebrant. Wake service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment in St. Florian Cemetery. Sandra L. Hoffer, funeral director.
Pittsburgh
Richard F. Malter, 74, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in his home. Born in Pittsburgh, Oct. 6, 1927, son of Frank and Lorena Foresha Malter. Mr. Malter worked as a bottler for Pittsburgh Brewing Co. He was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II. Surviving are his loving son, Richard F. Malter Jr. and his wife Marilyn A. Malter; one sister, Delores Barnes; two grandchildren, Jason and Laurie Malter; also nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his wife, Ruth Mangel Malter. Private graveside services will be Friday in Allegheny Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Terry Lutz officiating. Carla Sara (McCloskey) McCarthy, 40, died of breast cancer on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in her home. She was born Feb. 10, 1961, in Pittsburgh. Mrs. McCarthy was a pharmacy technician with Eckerd Drug for 15 years. She was a member of St. Victor Roman Catholic Church in Bairdford and was an active supporter of the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure. She is survived by her husband, Thomas J. McCarthy; her daughter, Melissa McCarthy; her mother, Sara McCloskey of Pittsburgh; her brother, Michael McCloskey of Pompano Beach, Fla.; her sister, Michelle Sieg of West Deer; and her nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday, Nov. 27, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the HERBERT R. KING, JR. Martin Molina, 91, of Latrobe, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in his home. He was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Loyalhanna, a son of the late Joseph and Theresa Barbero Molina. He was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe, and its Holy Name Society. He was retired from the former Davis Supermarket, Greensburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 515, Latrobe, and the Derry VFW. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mary L. Levendusky Molina, on Dec. 11, 2000; and a brother, Dominick Molina. Survivors include a brother, Charles Molina; two sisters, Catherine Mania and Josephine Cinibulk, all of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Edward A. Piesik, 76, of North Huntingdon, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Port Vue, a son of the late John and Rose Wulczinski Piesik. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a tool and die maker for National Carbide and Die, McKeesport. He was a member of St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a former member of the Men's Club, the North Huntingdon VFW Post 781 and the American Legion of White Oak. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Victoria Elak and Louise Hatalovich. He is survived by his wife, Martha Slonska Piesik; a son, Bernard and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Penn Township; a daughter, Kathy DiDonato and her husband, David, of North Huntingdon; a brother, Albert Piesik of McKeesport; a sister, Marie Bendik of Elizabeth Township; and two grandchildren, Kathryn "Katie" Piesik and Jaime Queen-Beresh. Friends will be received at the SHIRLEY-KUKICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Clay Pike, Circleville, North Huntingdon, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Agnes Church, North Huntingdon, followed by interment

Oliver J. "Sox" Price, age 84, on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Fosnight Retirement Center, Gibsonia. He was born May 19, 1917, in Renfrew, son of the late Oliver A. and Ada (Stinson) Price. Beloved husband of Barbara (Walker) Price. Dear father of Oliver J. Price of California, Patricia Price of Richland, Susan Thompson of Alexandria, Va., Jack Price of Richland, Jeff Price of Marietta, Ohio, Dennis Price of Mars and Donna Lauff of Richland. Also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Dear friend to WuWu. Friends received Thursday and Friday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown. Funeral Service Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown with the Rev Dr. David L. McDonald, pastor, officiating. Interment private. Sox was a graduate of Penn Township High School and Grove City College. He served as an Air Force 1st lieutenant in World War II, where he was chosen to a select group of servicemen to attend logistical training at Harvard and was awarded the Bronze Service Star. In 1950, he and his wife, Martha, built and established Bakerstown Golf Course, renamed Pittsburgh North Golf Club in 1969. Sox was a member of the PGA, the Pennsylvania Golf Course Owners (PGO) and the Etna Elks.
