Formerly of Vandergrift
Vernon W. Doutt Sr., 89, formerly of Vandergrift, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in the William Penn Care Center, Murrysville. He was born May 12, 1912, in Vandergrift, and had lived there most of his life. After his retirement, he and his late wife, Josephine, moved to Florida. Prior to his retirement, he was a cost accountant with the Vandergrift plant of U.S. Steel. Mr. Doutt had been a member of the First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and the St. Mark's Presbyterian Church in Bayonet Point, Fla. While in Florida he was a member of the Apollo Elks, the Masonic Lodge in Vandergrift and the Scottish Rite and Shrine, both in Pittsburgh. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, playing cards and bingo. Survivors include his son, Vernon Doutt Jr. of Murrysville; two grandchildren, Mrs. Lynn (Valerie) Chandler of Leesburg, Va., and Brenda Sue Pish of Bloomington, Ill.; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Justin Chandler, Jordan Doutt Chandler and Melissa Nichole Pish of Bloomington, Ill.; and two sisters, Helen Doutt of Greensburg and Elsie Townsend of Brunswick, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Josephine Wagner Doutt, in 1991; five brothers, Harold, Floyd, Alfred, Ralph and Clarence Doutt; and three sisters, Frieda Reefer, Olive Shriver and Mabel DeVore. Friends may call from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday in the DUNMIRE-KERR FUNERAL HOME, A Golden Rule Member, 244 Franklin Ave., Vandergrift, where a service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kimberly Saylor officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Memorial, Lower Burrell. The Elks will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Dr. Thomas P. Dudas Sr., 71, of 3613 S. Banana River Blvd., Apt. D-304, Cocoa Beach, Fla., also of 370 Rumford Road, Lititz, Pa., formerly of Potomac, Md., and Monessen, died unexpectedly of natural causes Monday morning, Nov. 26, 2001, at the Lancaster General Hospital, after he was stricken ill at home. He was married to Catherine Hornak Dudas for 44 years last June. Born in Monessen, he was a son of the late Dr. Joseph M. Sr. and Mary Mayernick Dudas. He was a dentist and partner in Drs. Dudas Dental Associates in Monessen from 1959 to 1981. Later, from 1981 to 1998, he had his own practice in Bethesda, Md. For the past two years until his death, he was an associate with his son, Dr. Thomas P. Dudas Jr., in Leola, Pa. A 1953 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and a 1957 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Dental School, he belonged to the university's Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity and Psi Omega Dental Fraternity. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1957-1959. He was a member and lector of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Lancaster, the Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, Monessen, and St. Raphael Catholic Church, Rockville, Md. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus at each church and member of the Bishop Pheilan Assembly 4th Degree K. of C. in Monessen; a founding member of Mater Dei Council at St. Raphael's and past president of Holy Name Church Council of Monessen. He was a member of the Bethesda Rotary Club, a life member of the Monessen B.P.O.E. 773. He was a member of the American Dental Association; the Pennsylvania Dental Association; the Western Pennsylvania Dental Association, where he was past president; the Maryland Dental Association; Southern Maryland Dental Society; and Academy of General Dentistry. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Dr. Thomas P. Jr., husband of Janice M. Dudas, of Lititz and Lt. Michael G. Dudas of Okinawa, Japan; two daughters, Mary Jo, wife of Richard Coe, of Glenelg, Md., and Lisa Ann, wife of Jeffrey Bevan, of Phoenixville, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and three brothers, John A., husband of Louise Dudas, Richard M., husband of Donna Dudas, and Dr. Martin M., husband of Madeline Dudas, all of Monessen. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Joseph M. Jr. and Andre J. Friends may call at the ROBERT A. Andrew Duplak, 93, on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, in Jefferson Center Hospital, Jefferson Hills. He was born in Clairton on Dec. 24, 1907, son of the late Michael and Elizabeth Banyas Duplak. Mr. Duplak was a retired steelworker with U.S. Steel, Clairton Works. He was a member of St. Isaac Jogues Roman Catholic Church, Elrama, and AARP Clairton Hill Chapter #2862. Jean D. Kozer Gilpin, 74, of Tarrs, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in the Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Mrs. Gilpin was born July 10, 1927, in Tarrs, a daughter of the late Andy and Mary Bushta Kozer. She is survived by her loving family: her husband of 54 years, George W. Gilpin of Tarrs; two sons, Greg M. Gilpin of Mt. Pleasant and Bill P. Gilpin and his wife, Lisa, of Tarrs; a granddaughter, Amanda Gilpin; two brothers, Fred Kozer and his wife, Fay, of Hunker and Will Kozer and his wife, Audrey, of Laurelville; and a sister, Patricia McBeth and her husband, Ken, of Tarrs. In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by a brother, Robert Kozer; and a sister, Helen McGinnis. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at GALONE-CARUSO'S, 204 Eagle St., Mt. Mrs. George was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Pittsburgh, to the late Ralph Cominio and Phyllis Pittore Cominio. Wife of the late Gabriel J. Viglietta and the late Donald W. George. Loving mother of Michael Viglietta and his wife Ann, Lavinia Cecere and her husband Ralph, and the late Anthony Viglietta. Grandmother of Kathy Arthrell and her husband Charles, Michele Myers and her husband Chris, Ralph Cecere Jr. and his wife Carol, Kimberly Barvinchak and her husband Paul Jr., and Jaison Viglietta. Great-grandmother of Erika and Charles Arthrell, McKenzie, Madison and Maleena Myers, Courtney and Adam Cecere, Michael Barvinchak. Sister of Ernest Cominio of Florida, and the late Sally, Nazareth, Louis and Joseph Cominio. Marie was a resident of Kane Regional Center, McKeesport. Gary D. Harbaugh Sr., 70, of Jeannette, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 7, 1931, in Jeannette, a son of the late Frank and Carrie Chilcote Harbaugh. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Unifirst Corp. in New Kensington. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Jeannette. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Benevolent Society of Westmoreland City and the Jeannette Golf League. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Samuel, Robert, Hiram "Jay" and Max Harbaugh; and a sister, Grace Kohl. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Theresa Shawley Harbaugh; four sons, Gary D. Harbaugh Jr. of Export, Benjamin F. Harbaugh and wife, Susanne, of Hampton, N.J., Kevin L. Harbaugh of Jeannette and Eric L. Harbaugh and wife, Catherine, of Jeannette; a brother, Donald Harbaugh of Jeannette; two sisters, Alberta Filar and Florine Weightman, both of Harrison City; and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. Lewis E. Johns, 94, of Friendship Village, formerly of Mt. Lebanon, on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001. Husband of 62 years to the late Nancy L. Johns. Father of Lewis E. Jr. of Alachua, Fla., James E. of Pittsburgh and David L. Johns of Baltimore, Md. Brother of Harry of Grafton, Va., Nellie Davis of Norfolk, Va., and Gladys Thomas of Lynchburg, Va. Also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. Johns was on the board of Light of Life Ministries Inc., and was a founding member of the Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church. He was employed by U.S. Steel for 40 years, retiring as vice-president of communications. There will be no viewing. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Sunset Hills United Presbyterian Church, 900 Country Club Dr., Mt. Lebanon. Interment is private.
