Jeannette
Gary D. Harbaugh Sr., 70, of Jeannette, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born July 7, 1931, in Jeannette, a son of the late Frank and Carrie Chilcote Harbaugh. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Unifirst Corp. in New Kensington. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Jeannette. He was a member of the St. Joseph's Benevolent Society of Westmoreland City and the Jeannette Golf League. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Samuel, Robert, Hiram "Jay" and Max Harbaugh; and a sister, Grace Kohl. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Theresa Shawley Harbaugh; four sons, Gary D. Harbaugh Jr. of Export, Benjamin F. Harbaugh and wife, Susanne, of Hampton, N.J., Kevin L. Harbaugh of Jeannette and Eric L. Harbaugh and wife, Catherine, of Jeannette; a brother, Donald Harbaugh of Jeannette; two sisters, Alberta Filar and Florine Weightman, both of Harrison City; and seven grandchildren. Friends will be received at the JAMES E. LINDSAY FUNERAL HOME INC., Main Street, Harrison City, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Martin R. Koss officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.

Theora E. "Faye" Highberger, 86, of Herminie, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. Born April 14, 1915, in Penn Township, she was a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Alvira Brown Morgan. She was a member of the Hilltop United Methodist Church, Madison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Gerald H. Highberger; a daughter, Janice F. Perlick; seven brothers, John, Saul, Lloyd, Joseph, Excel, June and Edward Morgan; and five sisters, Jane Gess, Margaret Henry, Anna Mae Heasley, Bess McKowan and Mildred Miller. Surviving are her husband of 61 years, Howard A. Highberger; a son, Barry L. Highberger of Herminie; a daughter, Mrs. Linda Postlethwait and her husband, Gerald, of Herminie; two grandchildren, Ed Postlethwait of Herminie and Karie Postlethwait of Jeannette; and two great-grandchildren, David and Emily Postlethwait. Friends will be received at the BEATTY-RICH FUNERAL HOME INC., Route 136, Madison, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with her pastor, the Rev. Lawrence Raughley, officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park Cemetery, Hempfield Township.

Louis J. "Buddy" Lucarelli, 67, of Turtle Creek, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001. A son of the late Lewis "Tubby" and Mary Margaret (Welsh) Lucarelli. Beloved father of Toni Louise (Mark) Mattson, Vincenza Louise "Angel" (Jim) Spinelli, Louis J. "Louie" Lucarelli, Mary Louise "Mary Lou" (Joe) Urban and Anthony Vincent "Tony" Lucarelli. Grandfather of Michael J. and Tanya Carwile, Matthew and Elizabeth Mattson, John P. Vechter, Emily, Carmen and Anthony Spinelli, Dylan J. Urban and Corey Anthony Lucarelli. Brother of Michael Angelo "Sonny" Lucarelli, John L. Lucarelli and the late Catherine Jean "Kitty" Papst and the late Mary Margaret "Peggy Lou" Hall. Nephew of Mary DeVito, Regis and Joe Welsh. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Friends received at the ALFIERI FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 Marguerite Ave., Wilmerding, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Services in the funeral home Monday at 9 a.m., followed by Mass in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10 a.m. Buddy was the former owner of B&L Auto Sales and B&L Beer Distributor in New Alexandria.
Herminie
Frank V. "Patsy" Malpezzi, 87, of Herminie, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at the Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. He was born Dec. 29, 1913, in Fitz Henry, a son of the late Joseph and Pellegrina (Bellastracci) Malpezzi. Patsy was a Sewickley Township supervisor, having retired after 16 years of working for the township. Patsy was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served in World War II as a technical sergeant. For over 30 years, Patsy volunteered as an athletic trainer for the University of Pittsburgh's football program. In addition, Patsy also volunteered for several local high school athletic programs, as well as the Sewickley Township Recreation Board. He was also a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church in Herminie, Herminie VFW Post 8427 and a life member of Sewickley Township Volunteer Fire Department Station 15. In addition to his parents, Patsy was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Gilette, Gildo, Guido and William Malpezzi; and three sisters, Jennie Pesce, Asunta Marsiglio and Edith Varela. Patsy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Montini Malpezzi; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia German and her husband, Ken Murphy, of Herminie; two grandchildren, Jacki Kienzle and her husband, Ken, and Frank German; a great-grandson, Kenny Kienzle; a sister, Mrs. Emma Neri of North Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A private funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Lawrence L. Manchas as celebrant. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the South Greensburg American Legion Post 981. The Herminie VFW Post 8427 will meet for services Friday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.

Mary Ethel Ackerman Millen, 84, of New Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Oct. 11, 1917, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Curtis and Ethel (Losier) Ackerman. She was a member of the New Alexandria United Methodist Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Charles; her first husband, Raymond Jellison; and second husband, John R. Millen, on May 22, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Gladys Brandt of Latrobe and Kathleen Myers of New Alexandria; a son, Roy C. Millen of Korea; a sister, Jane Gyenes of Clarksburg, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Diane Ackerman of New Alexandria; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lota C. Jones, pastor of the New Alexandria United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, New Alexandria.

Nicolena "Nikki" Reidmiller, 72, of Jeannette, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at her residence. She was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Louis and Josephine Patti Vitolo. Nikki was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette, and a volunteer and member of the Jeannette Senior Citizens Center. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry S. Reidmiller, in 1989; and a sister, Mary Vitolo. She is survived by three daughters, Louise Lozer and husband, Michael, of Pittsburgh, Lydia Reidmiller and Loraine Kinley and husband, Craig, all of Jeannette; a brother, Paul Vitolo and wife, Elizabeth, and a sister, Irene Perfette, all of Export; five grandchildren, Adam Pifer and wife, Traci, Aaron Pifer, Amanda Boban, Hannah and Hailey Kinley; two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Brett Pifer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Sunday at noon in the funeral home with the Rev. James Loew, O.S.B., officiating. Interment will take place in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.

Madeline Oberdacker Geier Sibal, 79, of Mt. Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Friends will be received in the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 406 E. Washington St., Mt. Pleasant, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. A blessing service will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Visitation Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Anthony Ditto as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Visitation Cemetery.

David William Thomas Sr., 63, of Scottdale, passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 29, 2001, in Frick Hospital, Mt. Pleasant. Dave was born Oct. 22, 1938, in Everson, a son of the late Henry and Emma Musgrove Thomas. Dave was a loving father, grandfather and brother to his family. He formerly worked as a carpenter in the Scottdale area with his brother, Henry, for many years. He was formerly affiliated with the First Baptist Church in Scottdale and was a graduate of Scottdale High School. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dave attained the rank of technician fourth class during peacetime efforts. Dave enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. Dave is survived by his loving children, David "Bill" Thomas Jr. and wife, Julie (Harbison), of Everson, Douglas Thomas Sr. and wife, Michele (Mackey), of Scottdale, Dennis Thomas and wife, Bobbie Kay (Giles), of Connellsville, Dwayne Thomas Sr. and wife, Aimee (Hoffman), of Cleveland, Ohio, Donald Thomas Sr. and wife, Beth (Rugg), of Mt. Pleasant, Daniel Thomas Sr. and fiancee, Dawn Backstrom, of Scottdale and Darla Thomas Conty and husband, Philip P. Conty, of Everson, and their mother, Eleanor Campbell Scardina of Scottdale; his 18 grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Harry Thomas, Alverda "Sis" Dugger and husband, Harry "Phil, " Jess Thomas and wife, Ella Jean, and Henry Thomas and wife, Barbara, all of Scottdale, Ruth Wingrove of New Bedford, Mass., Freda Dugger and husband, Joseph, of Everson, Reda Weimer of Everson and Joseph Thomas and wife, Shawnley, of Scottdale; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his grandson, Joseph G. Thomas, in May 1986; and a brother, John Thomas.
