Herminie
Frank V. "Patsy" Malpezzi, 87, of Herminie, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at the Westmoreland Manor, Hempfield Township. He was born Dec. 29, 1913, in Fitz Henry, a son of the late Joseph and Pellegrina (Bellastracci) Malpezzi. Patsy was a Sewickley Township supervisor, having retired after 16 years of working for the township. Patsy was a United States Marine Corps veteran, having served in World War II as a technical sergeant. For over 30 years, Patsy volunteered as an athletic trainer for the University of Pittsburgh's football program. In addition, Patsy also volunteered for several local high school athletic programs, as well as the Sewickley Township Recreation Board. He was also a member of St. Edward Roman Catholic Church in Herminie, Herminie VFW Post 8427 and a life member of Sewickley Township Volunteer Fire Department Station 15. In addition to his parents, Patsy was preceded in death by five brothers, John, Gilette, Gildo, Guido and William Malpezzi; and three sisters, Jennie Pesce, Asunta Marsiglio and Edith Varela. Patsy is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mary Montini Malpezzi; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia German and her husband, Ken Murphy, of Herminie; two grandchildren, Jacki Kienzle and her husband, Ken, and Frank German; a great-grandson, Kenny Kienzle; a sister, Mrs. Emma Neri of North Huntingdon; and several nieces and nephews. Friends were received at the JOSEPH W. NICKELS FUNERAL HOME INC., Herminie, Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A private funeral Liturgy will be celebrated in the funeral home Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Lawrence L. Manchas as celebrant. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery with full military honors accorded by the South Greensburg American Legion Post 981.
New Alexandria
Mary Ethel Ackerman Millen, 83, of New Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Oct. 11, 1918, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late Curtis and Ethel (Losier) Ackerman. She was a member of the New Alexandria United Methodist Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Charles; her first husband, Raymond Jellison; and second husband, John R. Millen, on May 22, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Gladys Brandt of Latrobe and Kathleen Myers of New Alexandria; a son, Roy C. Millen of Korea; a sister, Jane Gyenes of Clarksburg, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Diane Ackerman of New Alexandria; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, New Alexandria, where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Lota C. Jones, pastor of the New Alexandria United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, New Alexandria.
Forrest D. "Woody" Moore Jr., 81, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Scottdale, died early Friday morning, Nov. 30, 2001, in Life Care Hospital, Wilkinsburg. He was born July 14, 1920, in West Chester, a son of the late Forrest D. and Sarah M. Dutton Moore. Woody was a member of Calvin United Presbyterian Church, Scottdale. Woody was a former manufacturer's agent for General Bathroom Products, Elgin, Ill., Sunshine Peat Moss Co. of Canada, Anderson Peat Moss Co. of Michigan and Black Leaf Products of Elgin, Ill., with a total of 35 years of service. Woody was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a lieutenant from June 1942 to May 1946. He served aboard the USS Betelguese AKA II and the USS Bexar APA 232 as a ship-to-shore and invasion transport officer. He was the recipient of the Asiatic Pacific Theatre ribbon and the European and Atlantic Theatre medals. He was a member of the Scottdale Elks B.P.O.E. 777. Woody is survived by a son, Forrest D. Moore III and his wife, Martha Anne, of Scottdale; a daughter, Deborah R. Moore Williams of Pittsburgh; a nephew, Robert Kindle and his wife, Marita, of Brentwood; and two nieces, Nancy Schmidt and her husband, Michael, of Los Alamos, N.M., and Barbara Forrest and her husband, Tim, of Basalt, Colo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karleen E. Bowers Moore, on Dec. 15, 1985; and a sister, Jane Kindle, on May 30, 1997. The family extends an invitation to friends to attend a memorial service for Forrest Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Calvin United Presbyterian Church, Chestnut and Mulberry streets, Scottdale, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. James Hepler, officiating. Inurnment will follow in Thomas Jefferson Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Pleasant Hills. The Scottdale Elks B.P.O.E. will conduct a memorial service Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. in the church. Arrangements by the FRANK KAPR FUNERAL HOME INC., Scottdale.

Frank Joseph Padula, 62, of Missouri City, Texas, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, in The Methodist Hospital, Houston, Texas, after a struggle with pancreatic cancer. He passed peacefully into the loving arms of God while surrounded by family and friends. Frank was born Jan. 8, 1939, in Greensburg, the son of the late George and Mary Padula. He received a bachelor of science degree from Kent State University in Ohio, where he studied physical education, played football and served as a student coach. For the past 36 years, Frank was a respected member of the plastics industry, where he will be remembered for his consummate professionalism, steady work ethic and unsurpassable knowledge of the business. A life-long lover of sports and the outdoors, Frank was an avid golfer. He was a proud member of the Quail Valley Country Club for 28 years. For the past 10 years, Frank was an active committee member and volunteer for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he served as vice chairman of the Lamb Auction Committee and as a member of the International Committee. Frank is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jo-Ann; his son, Jason and wife, Amy; a daughter, Dawn; his sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Bert Bringe of Greensburg; and several nieces and nephews. Frank will always be remembered by his friends and family as an honest, loving and peaceful man. A memorial Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 7, at St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, Texas.
Jeannette
Nicolena "Nikki" Reidmiller, 72, of Jeannette, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at her residence. She was born Dec. 2, 1928, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Louis and Josephine Patti Vitolo. Nikki was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Jeannette, and a volunteer and member of the Jeannette Senior Citizens Center. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry S. Reidmiller, in 1989; and a sister, Mary Vitolo. She is survived by three daughters, Louise Lozer and husband, Michael, of Pittsburgh, Lydia Reidmiller and Loraine Kinley and husband, Craig, all of Jeannette; a brother, Paul Vitolo and wife, Elizabeth, and a sister, Irene Perfette, all of Export; five grandchildren, Adam Pifer and wife, Traci, Aaron Pifer, Amanda Boban, Hannah and Hailey Kinley; two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Brett Pifer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, beginning Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Sunday at noon in the funeral home with the Rev. James Loew, O.S.B., officiating. Interment will take place in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.

Kenneth L. "Snuffy" Smith, 42, of Derry, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at his home. He was born Jan. 29, 1959, in Latrobe, a son of Franklin L. and Barbara Novak Smith of Latrobe. He worked for Latrobe Parks and Recreation. Besides his parents, he is survived by his godmother, Betty Boggio of Bradenville; three brothers, Franklin L. Jr. of Ohio, Lee of Derry and Philip Jason Smith of Whitney; four sisters, Kathleen Harden, Barbara Ray, Laurie Taylor and Janice Ferraro, all of Latrobe; a dear friend, Margaret Smith of Derry; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and his dog, Lucky. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the McCABE FUNERAL HOME, 300 W. Third Ave., Derry, where a blessing service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. Interment will be made in Coles Cemetery, Derry.

Essie L. Stalnaker, 95, of Canonsburg, formerly of Pleasant Hills, on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001. She was active in the Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church, a volunteer at Kane Hospital and helped with Meals On Wheels. Beloved wife of the late Clyde Stalnaker. Loving mother of Jerry Stalnaker of Ligonier, Judith Stewart of Canonsburg and Rex Stalnaker of Williamsport; also eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Service will be held at noon Saturday in the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME INC., 301 Curry Hollow Road, Pleasant Hills. Interment in Jefferson Memorial Park.
