Joseph J. Scholze, 90, of Monroeville, formerly of San Diego, Calif., on Monday (All Saints Day), Nov. 1, 1999. Husband of the late Mary K. Dickson Scholze; dear brother of Ellen G. Scholze of New York City, N.Y., Paul J. Scholze of Seattle, Wash., Robert F. Scholze of Portland, Ore., Ferdinand J. Scholze of Monroeville, Joan D. Aiello of Munhall, James A. Scholze of Forest Hills and the late Mary E. Phillips, Thomas V. Scholze and Gertrude R. Matisi; also 38 nieces and nephews. Helen C. Tucci, 85, formerly of Youngwood, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Oct. 12, 1914, in Youngwood, a daughter of the late Joseph and Onorata D'Agostini Ciampini. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed by Westinghouse. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, Youngwood, the Holy Cross Ladies Guild and the A&B Club of Youngwood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rocco Tucci; a sister, Stella Cassa; and three brothers, Merle, Pete and Albert Ciampini. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Mary Ann) Gazda of Warren, Ohio, and Mrs. Robert (Laura Jean) Sinnamond of Greensburg; a son, Thomas Tucci and his wife, Karen, of Ruffsdale; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at the C. RICHARD McCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., Youngwood, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, Youngwood, with Father John S. Szczesny as celebrant. Interment in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
James Rose Watson, a distinguished Pittsburgh surgeon, died in Pittsburgh on Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at the age of 95. Educated at Haverford College and Harvard Medical School, he received his surgical training at the Mayo Clinic, where he met his late wife, Marion Braasch. He began his surgical practice in Pittsburgh in 1934 in joint practice with his father, Charles Masena Watson. He practiced at both Presbyterian University Hospital and St. Margaret's Memorial Hospital. Throughout his career he played a significant role in the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Surgery, and retired as Clinical Professor of Surgery in 1973. During World War II, he served as Chief of Surgery of the U.S. Army's 27th General Hospital in New Guinea, and was awarded the Bronze Star. He is survived by his children, William B. Watson of Cambridge, Mass., Charles G. Watson of Pittsburgh and Ann W. Kaiser of Charlottesville, Va.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Surgical Research Endowment Fund, c/o of the Development Office, Box 131, Scaife Hall, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA 15261. Arrangements are under the direction of HAKY FUNERAL HOMES INC., 139 W. Fayette St., Uniontown.

James A. "Yummy" Butalla, 60, of Loyalhanna, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at IHS at Mountain View, Unity Township. He was born Nov. 7, 1938, in Latrobe, a son of Stephen J. and Mary Ann Baran Butalla of Loyalhanna. He was a member of St. Rose Church, Latrobe, and was retired from the church. He was a member of the White House Club, Loyalhanna, and F.O.E. #01188, Latrobe. In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Stephen J. Butalla and his wife, Paulette, of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Patricia Holden and her husband, Scott, of Latrobe; also survived by a niece, Heather; a nephew, Chad; and a great-niece, Mallory. Friends were received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose Church with the Rev. William P. Donahue as celebrant. Interment St. Rose Cemetery, Derry Township. St. Rose Rosary Altar Christian Mothers will recite the rosary at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. The F.O.E. #01188 will hold services at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Curtis M. Cackowski, 39, of Youngwood, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in the Forbes Regional Hospital, Monroeville. He was born in Greensburg, Nov. 25, 1959, a son of Evelyn Brosnick Cackowski of Greensburg and the late Marion Cackowski. He was a certified public accountant and was Catholic by faith. He was a former teacher of the C.C.D. class at St. Bruno's Church in South Greensburg, and a member of the P.I.C.P.A., the Norwin Jaycees, and the Hillview City Bowling League. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his cousin, Dana Noel. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Karen Nye Cackowski; and a brother, David Cackowski of Greensburg. Family and friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME, 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Interment will follow in the Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
Josephine A. Kowalczk Koelsch, 80, formerly of Larimer, died Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in the William Penn Care Center. She was born Dec. 10, 1918, in Arona, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rosalee Ladarchek Kowalczk. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Irwin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne F. Koelsch in 1990; two brothers, John and Joseph Kowalczk; and two sisters, Ann Rice and Veronica Lancuski. Surviving are two sons, Wayne R. Koelsch and his wife, Kathleen, of Irwin and James W. Koelsch and his wife, Tanya, of Irwin; a daughter, Selma and her husband, Jack Howard, of Greensburg; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sister Esther of the Holy Family Order of Bellevue. Friends were received at the JOSEPH F. OTT FUNERAL HOME INC., Fifth and Oak streets, Irwin, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
Donald M. "Don" Kuhn, 85, of New Alexandria, passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, in the Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born May 16, 1914, in Irwin, a son of the late Charles M. and Myrtle McIntyre Kuhn. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a control tower operator in the Army Air Corps. He retired from Kennametal in Latrobe after 27 years of service. He was a member of the Community United Presbyterian Church, New Alexandria, and the New Alexandria American Legion #652. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles; and a sister, Jean Shorthouse. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Etna Cook Kuhn; two daughters, Peggie Kuhn Bramble and husband, Donald, of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Karen Kuhn Liska and husband, Raymond, of South Yarmouth, Mass.; a son, Mike Kuhn and wife, Susan, of Norvelt; several nieces and nephews; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Friends were received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the P. DAVID NEWHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Church and Washington streets, in New Alexandria, where services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Terry Carnahan officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery in New Alexandria. Full military honors will be accorded by VFW Post #33, Greensburg.
Virginia L. Lewis, of Jeannette, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born April 16, 1920, in Huntington, W.Va., a daughter of the late Irvin and Nina Lynch Wescott. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jeannette, she was also a member of the Seneca Club and the AARP. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Lewis, in 1991; a sister, Margaret Huesdash; and three brothers, William, James, and Richard Wescott. Surviving are two sons, J. Richard Lewis and wife, Arlene, of Irwin, and Ronald R. Lewis and wife, Jan, of North Carolina; a daughter, Linda Frye of Greensburg; a brother, Ralph Wescott and wife, Mary; and a sister, Frances Yabs and husband, Donald, all of Florida; seven grandchildren, Kevin Pushic, Pamela Cotter, Karla Pushic, Kelly Creamonese, Eric Frye, Stacy Lewis, and Carrie Lewis; six great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends were received in the JOHN V. GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 228 N. Second St., Jeannette, Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. David D. Hunte officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery, North Huntingdon Township.

Frank Lesniowski as celebrant. A rite of committal and interment
will follow in the St. Rita's Cemetery. St. Rita's Christian Mothers will join in a parish wake service to be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home. St. Rita's Council #64 will conduct a service Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home.
