Mary Cline, 84, of Penn, our beloved mother, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999. She was born Sept. 15, 1915, in Export, a daughter of the late Ralph E. and Grace Smith Hill. She was a member of Ascension Church in Jeannette and a former member of Hill's Church Emmanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Export. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Francis J. Cline; a son, Gary E. Kline; two great-grandsons, Jason A. Gray and George J. Cline; three brothers, Charles E., Jacob W. and Richard G. Hill; and four sisters, Zelda M. Hill, Marie Hill, Stella C. Hill and Nora E. Bollinger. She is survived by five sons, Donald and wife, Violet Cline, of Jeannette, Melvin and wife, Emily Cline, of Apollo, Barry and wife, Barbara Cline, of Jeannette, Richard Cline at home, and Jay and wife, Susan Cline, of Penn; three daughters, Mrs. Pete (Hilda) Starry of Export, Mrs. John (Kay) Moff of Jeannette and Colleen Cline of Jeannette; a daughter-in-law, Susanne Kline, of Jeannette; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha G. Holt, of Export; a brother, William W. "Bill" Hill, of Blairsville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in the Ascension Church, Jeannette. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
Genevieve G. Ferguson, 93, of Greensburg, formerly of Harrisburg, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, in Greensburg. She was born July 10, 1906, in Berwick, Pa., a daughter of the late Raymond Speary and the late Alberta Smith Speary Harman. Mrs. Ferguson lived a great number of years in Bloomsburg, Pa. After moving to Harrisburg, she acted as an innkeeper at her home located at 1503 N. Second St., prior to her retirement in 1982. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ferguson was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Ferguson; her stepfather, Freas Harman, who raised her; a son, Richard L. Ferguson; grandsons, Richard and Scott Ferguson; a brother, Donald Speary; and a sister, Mrs. Ethel Speary Keen. Mrs. Ferguson is survived by a son, James F. Ferguson and his wife, Martha, of Greensburg and their children, Mrs. Sandra Tamasy and her husband, Marty, of Manor, Peggy Banner of Jeannette and Mrs. Carol Dent and her husband, Rob, of Jeannette. She also is survived by her daughter-in-law, Jackie Ferguson; her former daughter-in-law, Clara Hutton Ferguson; and her children, John Ferguson, Randy Ferguson and Debbie Ferguson Gerhardt. There are also 10 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul Harman, of Mt. Wolf, Pa.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends will be received at the COSHEY-NICHOLSON FUNERAL HOME INC., 319 W. Pittsburgh St., Greensburg, Sunday from noon to 2 p.m., at which time a funeral service will be held with the Rev. Robert C. Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Township.
George L. Grimm, 66, of Connellsville, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at his home. He was born April 19, 1933, in Springfield Township, a son of the late Roy and Dorothy Eiford Grimm. He was a self-employed developer and contractor of both commercial and residential properties. In 1968, he purchased the land known as Georgetown Manor in Dunbar Township, and he began that development. He was a former member of the Bullskin Water Authority, and he donated time and equipment for the Bullskin Swim Club. Mr. Grimm also restored antique cars and trucks and was a member of the Antique Car Club. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks #503 of Connellsville and a member of the Slovak Club of Connellsville. Among his hobbies, Mr. Grimm loved to cook, especially wild game, and was also an avid hunter and a cunning card player. He is survived by his family, whom he dearly loved, his wife, Margaret Biler Grimm; three children, Janice Pritts of Connellsville, Barcine Graft and her husband, Dennis, of Connellsville and Ralph Grimm and his wife, Holly, of Normalville; six grandchildren, Vanessa Pritts, Koleen Grimm, Christopher Grimm, Casey Graft, Jessica Graft and Levi Graft; a great-grandchild, Skylar Johnston; and six brothers, Howard Grimm and his wife, Dolly, of Indian Head, Jackson Grimm and his wife, Joan, and Richard Grimm and his wife, Lilly, both of Normalville, Ronald Grimm and his wife, Jean, Kenneth Grimm and his wife, Carol, and Bernard Ohler and his wife, Joanne, all of Connellsville. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Ellsworth Grimm; and a sister, Anna Ruth Grimm. Friends will be received at the BROOKS FUNERAL HOME INC., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. A blessing service will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, Connellsville, with the Rev. John Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow in Green Ridge Memorial Park, Pennsville. A parish wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Melvina I. Gross, 71, of Jeannette, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at home. She was born Dec. 13, 1927, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Frank Sr. and Muriel Walters Gray. She was a member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, Jeannette. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Floyd, and Walter Gray; and three sisters, Ida Lyon, Thelma Andrews and Patricia Slonacher. She is survived by her husband, Robert "Bob" Gross, of Jeannette; a son, Marc Gross, of Verona; a daughter, Mrs. Louis (Brenda) Santioni, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a granddaughter, Darlene Santioni; a great-granddaughter, Taylor Santioni; a brother, Frank Gray Jr., of Norvelt; a sister, Hilda Ehalt, of Monroeville; and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the MASON-GELDER FUNERAL HOME INC., 201 N. First St., Jeannette, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held Monday at a time to be announced. Interment will follow in the Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
Anna Wiester Hill, 84, of Florissant, Mo., formerly of Slickville, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999. She was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Franklin Township, a daughter of the late Albertiss R. and Gertrude E. Beaver Wiester. She was a member of the Poke Run Presbyterian Church, Apollo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hill; and two sisters, Alice Kemerer and Alma Walker. She is survived by a stepson, William Fred Hill of Maryland; two stepdaughters, Alice Catherine Rice of Kansas and Dee Genevieve Akers of Virginia; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Miller, of Slickville; a brother-in-law, Dean Walker, of Greensburg; four step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends are being received at the EDWIN N. Randy Lee Holby, 45, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., formerly of New Alexandria, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home. He was born Oct. 30, 1954, in Greensburg, a son of Huldah (Semencar) Holby of New Alexandria and the late Merle Holby. Randy's passion in life was working in printing. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Christine Holby of New Alexandria; a wife, Tonia Holby of Georgia; a sister, Irene Casteel and husband, Jonathan, of Greensburg; a brother, Dennis Holby and wife, Cathy, of New Alexandria; a granddaughter, Samantha Woollen; numerous nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Kim O'Doherty. The family will be receiving family and friends at the VAIA FUNERAL HOME INC., AT TWIN VALLEY, 463 Athena Drive, Delmont, (724) 468-1177, beginning Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Randy's funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Helen M. McIlwain, 85, of the Shady Plain section of Kiski Township, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at 1:57 p.m., in Indian Haven Personal Care Center in Indiana, Pa. She was born May 26, 1914, in Echo, Armstrong County, a daughter of the late Walter and Ruth Moore Brice. She had lived in the Kiski Township, Apollo area, for the past 61 years. She had owned and operated the family store, McIlwain's General Store in Shady Plain. She was a member of the Spring Church Lutheran Church in Spring Church, Women's Church Group, Apollo Chapter of the Eastern Star, Spring Church Grange, and Pomona Grange. Also, she was very active in the Armstrong County Republican Party, where she was a committee person for several years; and an avid quilter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ross B. McIlwain, in 1979; and a brother, Norman Brice. Survived by a son, Donald R. McIlwain, of Greensburg; three daughters, Mrs. Merle (Betty) Bier of Kiski Township, Mrs. Doris Altmyer of Mesa, Ariz., and Mrs. Richard (Ruth) Pastula of Indiana, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received Friday from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Sunday from noon until time of service at 1 p.m. at the GERALD J. MEDICE FUNERAL HOME, 604 Moore Ave., North Apollo. The Spring Church Grange will hold a prayer service in the funeral home Saturday evening at 7. Carl C. Mullen, 79, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in the Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Latrobe, a son of the late Richard T. and Estella (Kirchner) Mullen. Mr. Mullen was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps. After his discharge from the service, he went to work for Kennametal. He then went into business with his late brother, Paul, and together owned and operated the former Mullen Brothers Appliance Store in Latrobe. After Paul retired, Carl relocated and changed the business name to Karl's Hardware Store, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1984. After retirement, he was an avid antique dealer. He was a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church in Latrobe, American Legion Post 515, the Senior Citizens Bowling League and, along with his wife, volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Craig C. and Wendy (Orvosh) Mullen, who were killed as a result of an airplane crash this past Saturday in Louisiana, unbeknownst to Mr. Mullen due to the fact that he was in the hospital in critical condition; two brothers, Richard and Paul Mullen; and a sister, Mary Grace Young. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen (Luttner) Mullen; three children, Carol Robbins and her husband, William, of Columbia, S.C., Dr. Rhey C. Mullen and his wife, Jana, of Latrobe, and Linda M. Stas and her husband, Joseph, of Wexford; seven grandchildren, Kristy, Kelly, and Kaitlin Robbins, Erin Mullen, and Stacy, Emily, and Julie Stas; and a brother, Jerome Mullen and his wife, Betty, of Latrobe. Friends will be received at the HARTMAN-GRAZIANO FUNERAL HOME INC., 1500 Ligonier St., Latrobe, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Church, Latrobe. EVERYONE IS ASKED TO PLEASE GO DIRECTLY TO THE CHURCH. Interment will follow in Unity Cemetery, Unity Township. Military services will be held at 8:45 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Melissa L. (Kraiss) Murrin, formerly of Wilkins Township and Forest Hills, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999. Wife of the late William Z. Murrin. Beloved mother of Howard E. Meyers of Greensburg and Denise L. Macey of West Mifflin. Grandmother of June Kilgore of Apollo, Howard E. Meyers of Sewickley, Janet Miller of Oakmont, Michelle Saleeby and Dale D. Meyers, both of Salisbury, N.C., Heather G. Meyers of Somerset and Alexis Macey of West Mifflin. Also eight great-grandchildren. Friends received Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME, corner of Shaw and Triboro avenues, Turtle Creek, where services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m.
Delma Marianna Schwartz, 86, of Latrobe, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at IHS at Mountain View, Unity Township. She was born March 7, 1913, in Large, Pa., a daughter of the late Achilles and Marianna Gallo Favro. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe. Graduate of the Pittsburgh Business College. She was a retired bookkeeper for a family business and also had formerly worked at Kaufmann's. She had been a Latrobe Area Hospital volunteer and a member of the C.D. of A. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, Caesar Ignatius Favro, Marius Favro, and Achilles Favro. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Philip J. Schwartz; a son, Dr. Timothy P. Schwartz and his wife, Dr. Donna Barcott, of West Greenwich, R.I.; a daughter, Denise Schwartz and her husband, John Paresky, of South Deerfield, Mass.; two grandchildren, Rye Mead Schwartz-Barcott and Simeon Schwartz-Paresky; and a sister, Ermisde Cox of Elizabeth. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the JOHN J. LOPATICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe, with the Rev. Thomas Lukac as celebrant. Entombment Greensburg Catholic Cemetery.
