Thelma M. Rensland, 90, of Plum, a former resident of Delmont, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at the Woodhaven Convalescent Center, Monroeville. Wife of the late Harry A. Rensland. Beloved mother of Dorisanne Gibson of Plum. Grandmother of Carolee Byers of Latrobe and Donna L. Gibson of Plum. Greatgrandmother of Jacob and Ethan Byers. Friends received Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MAURICE L. KNEE LTD. FUNERAL HOME, 7663 Saltsburg Road, Plum. Blessing service Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home, followed by entombment in the Twin Valley Cemetery Mausoleum.
Edmund Rutkowski, 81, of North Huntingdon, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at home. He was born May 28, 1918, in Westmoreland City, a son of the late Alexander and Stephanie Liescecka Rutkowski. He was a retired employee of the Westinghouse Electric Corp., Cheswick Plant. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Irwin. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion of Manor and the St. Joseph's Polish Club, Westmoreland City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Srebro; and a brother, Casimir Stachowski. He is survived by his wife, Ada M. Frasca Rutkowski; a daughter, Janice Britanik and her husband, Jerald, of Plum; a son, Jeffrey E. Rutkowski and his wife, Vicki, of North Huntingdon; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Drew and Janna Rutkowski; a sister, Helen Orynich and her husband, Paul, of Greensburg; also nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main St., Irwin, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Jeannette.
Betty Jean Shepherd, 72, of Forbes Road, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999. She was born May 24, 1927, in Forbes Road, a daughter of Georgina Nesbit Wilson and the late David S. Wilson. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Lady MacGregor Lodge #73 of the Daughters of Scotia, and also of the Forbes Road Civic Association. She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Joseph R. Shepherd; and two brothers, Delbert Edward Wilson and David Straus Wilson Jr. Survivors include her mother, Georgina Wilson of Forbes Road; a stepdaughter, Penny Smith of California; two sisters, Martha M. Chomko and Nancy W. and her husband, Donald Bergman, all of Greensburg; a brother, Richard Thomas Wilson of Granby, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the KEPPLE-GRAFT FUNERAL HOME INC., 524 N. Main St., Greensburg, Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Daughters of Scotia services will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. Funeral service Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with pastor David Clement officiating. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park, Hempfield Township.
Russell E. Smith Jr., 78, of New Stanton RD1 (Middletown), died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at his residence. He was born June 22, 1921, in New Jersey, a son of the late Russell E. Sr. and Lillian Webber Smith. He was a member of the Middletown United Methodist Church and was a graduate of the Youngwood High School with the Class of 1940. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Union Switch and Signal, and by the Hempfield Area School District, and was the sexton for the Middletown and Seanors cemeteries. He is survived by his wife, Helen Dulkis Smith; three sons, Charles Smith and wife, Sandy, of Middletown, Timothy Smith and wife, Tracy, of Provo, Utah, and James Smith and wife, Mary, of New Alexandria; seven daughters, Karen Bronick and husband, Ted, of Strongstown, Pa., Joanne Zink and husband, Joseph, of Madison, Arlene Senger and husband, Robert, of Greensburg, Cheryl West and husband, Thomas, of Zelienople, Ruth Anne Bendel and husband, Patrick, of Lebanon, Ohio, Lillian Harris and husband, Michael, of Harrisburg, and Audrey Smith of Pittsburgh; two brothers, Bob Smith and wife, Brenda, of Madison, and Milfred Smith and wife, Jan, of Florida; and two sisters, Helen Coughenour and husband, Don, of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Eileen Steiner and husband, Hervey A., of New Stanton RD1; a sister-in-law, Nancy Storey Smith of Middletown; 23 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Paul A. Smith. Friends will be received at the JAY B. PETERSON FUNERAL HOME, Depot and North Fifth streets, Youngwood, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. His funeral will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Kenneth L. Bossart officiating. Interment will follow in the Middletown Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association. Eugene G. Edna J. Weidman, 62, of Bethel Park, on Monday, Nov. 29, 1999. Beloved wife for 40 years of James P. Weidman. Mother of James P. Jr. of Clairton, Joseph C. of Lake Forest, Calif., Rob J. of Franklin Park, Greg E. of Plum, and Joyce A. of Bethel Park. Sister of James Jones, Mary Orlo, and John Jones. Also six grandchildren. Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the DAVID J. HENNEY FUNERAL HOME, 6364 Library Road (Route 88), Library. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Valentine Church. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, or to the American Diabetes Association.
Ruby I. Young, 92, of Murrysville, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999. She was born May 30, 1907, in Solomon, Kan., the daughter of the late Walter and Lottie Hobbs Laney. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Murrysville, and was formerly employed at Security Benefit, Topeka, Kan. She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Young, in 1989; two sons, Eugene Paul Young, in 1938, and James H. Young Jr., in 1988; and a brother, Glenn Laney. She is survived by a daughter, Leila A. Welborn and her husband, Gerald, of Murrysville; a daughter-in-law, Beverly Young Johnson of Rogers, Ark.; four grandchildren, Brian Welborn, Lori Duer, Lisa Sinegra and Kyla Glaser-Young; and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation Wednesday from 11 a.m. to noon at the JOHN T. HART FUNERAL HOME, Murrysville. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church of Murrysville, with the Rev. Mary Grey Emmett officiating. If desired, memorials may be made to the church. Burial will be in Topeka, Kan.
Anna B. Bissett, 94, of Delmont died April 10, 2001, in Monsour Medical Center.
Born May 4, 1906, in Murrysville, she was the daughter of James and Sadie May Kromer Watt. Mrs. Bissett was a member of Trinity Untied Church of Christ in Delmont.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Bissett. Surviving are her daughters, Thelma Kravanya of Hiram, Ohio, Ethel Palm of McKees-port and Alma Buksar of Elizabeth Township; a son, Brice Spencer Bissett of Lake-wood, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at John T. Hart Funeral Home. Interment was at Twin Valley Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Church of Christ in Delmont.
Garnet Maxine Guyaux Fink, 80, of Harrison City died April 9, 2001, in Manor Care Health Center.
Born April 17, 1920, in Turtle Creek, she was the daughter of Allen and Elizabeth Hall Wilson. Mrs. Fink was a member of Degree of Honor Lodge 23 in Turtle Creek.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Guyaux; and her second husband, James Fink; a son, Donald Guyaux; a sister, Verna Walker; and brothers, Jack and Mortimer Wilson.
Surviving are her daughter, Marcelyn Woodcock of Indiana Wells, Calif.; daughter-in-law, Helen Guyaux of North Versailles; a stepdaughter, Anna Belle Anderson of Jeannette; stepsons, James Fink of California and Roy Fink of Irwin; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Clyde Wilson, Charles Wilson, Howard Wilson and Wayne Walker; and two sisters, Janet Petrone and Aileen Cavicchia.
Friends were received at Forgie-Snyder Funeral Home. Interment was at Round Hill Cemetery.
Edsel F. "Ed" Hinkle, 76, of Westmoreland Manor, formerly of North Huntingdon, died April 8, 2001, in Westmoreland Regional Hospital.
Born May 4, 1924, in Queens, W.Va., he was the son of Hugh and Lola Cutright Hinkle. Mr. Hinkle was a retired employee of U.S. Steel Homestead Works. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Brucker Hinkle.
Surviving are his son, John Hinkle of Mashpee, Mass.; a daughter, Terry Boudreau of East Falmouth, Mass.; six grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Hinkle; and sisters, Joan Hall, Rosemary Golden and Sharon White.
Arrangements were handled by William Snyder Funeral Home. Interment was at Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
Rolland T. Hykes, 86, of Export died April 8, 2001.
Born May 20, 1914, in Coshocton, Ohio, he was the son of Thomas and Emily Frush Hykes. Mr. Hykes was a retired steel worker with more than 36 years of service at U.S. Steel Carrie Furnace in Rankin. He was a member of Forbes Trail Lodge F&AM 738 and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Export, where he sang in the choir for many years. During World War II he served as a captain in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was an avid gardener and poet and a volunteer for the MC2 in Murrysville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Winifred Peterson Hykes; sons, David of Trafford, John of Glastonbury, Conn. James of Wilkins Township and Robert Hykes of Export; a daughter Elizabeth Hykes of Willow Springs, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren.
Friends were received at Edwin N. Wolfe Funeral Home. Service was at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Export with the Rev. Gregory Held officiating. Interment was at Restland Memorial Park. Memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer's Association, Laurel Mountain Chapter, 1011 Old Salem Road, Greensburg, Pa. 15601.
