Leaves brother in Warren
Barbara Silva, 60, of Homestead Street, Somerset, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at home. She was the wife of Jose Machado Silva.
A lifelong Somerset resident, she was the daughter of Mary (Arruda) Costa of Somerset and the late John Costa Sr.
Mrs. Silva was a medical-records coder at St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River.
She was a parishioner of St. John of God Church in Somerset and was past president of its Women's Guild. She was a member of the church's Holy Rosary Sodality.
A graduate of Somerset High School, she had attended Bryant College. Mrs. Silva was active in the Somerset Friends of Music.
Besides her husband and mother, she leaves two daughters, Maria Marcucilli and Sylvia Silva, both of Somerset; a brother, John Costa of Warren; and one grandson. She was the sister of the late Matilda Costa.
Her funeral was on Monday, Oct. 14, from Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Fall River, followed by a funeral Mass in St. John of God Church. She was buried in Nathan Slade Cemetery.
Barbara Pierre
Involved in crash
Barbara Pierre, 23, of 91 Sowams Road, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence from injuries sustained six days earlier in an automobile accident.
Born in Guadalupe, a daughter of Jacqueline Pierre of Lynn, Mass. and Pierre Jean-Gilles of New Jersey, she spent her early childhood in Guadalupe, and graduated from Arlington High School in Arlington, Mass. She was studying criminal justice at Roger Williams University in Bristol and working as a supervisor at the Trauma Center.
Besides her parents, she leaves five brothers, Jean Robert Jean-Gilles of New Jersey, Claudy and Jones Exama and Pierre Alain, all of Lynn, and Lesly Exama of Gloucester, Mass.; three sisters, Mirlene DesRosiers of Wilmington, Mass., Lunide Exama of Lynn and Miki Pierre of Salem, Mass.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home in Lynn, with a funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Lynn. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cememtery in Lynn.
Palmina A. Cardente
Loved needlework; lived here 54 years
Palmina Antoinette Cardente, 82, of Prospect Street, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. She was the wife of Charles Cardente.
Born in Warren, a daughter of the late Giovanni and Bambino (Primiano) Vitullo, she had lived in Barrington since 1948.
Mrs. Cardente worked in the office at the former Berkshire Hathaway on Main Street, Warren, and later for the American Mathematical Society, before retiring.
She was accomplished at needlework and enjoyed cooking, walking and music. She was one of the "Three Musketeers" of Warren High School's Class of 1937.
Mrs. Cardente was a communicant of St. Luke Church, Washington Road.
Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, John Cardente of Barrington, Richard Cardente of Bartow, Fla., David Cardente of Derry, N.H. and Charles Cardente of north Kingstown; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was a sister of the late Peter and Frederick Vitullo, Gilda DeMello and Ida Sarracino.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, from the William J. Smith & Son Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Luke's Church. Burial will follow at the Forest Chapel Cemetery in Barrington.
Benjamin H.M. Hoyler
College student, enjoyed bicycling, fly fishing
Benjamin Hamilton Marshall Hoyler, 19, of Warren, a sophomore at Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo., died Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, in an electrical accident at the school. He was the son of Marshall and Katherine (McMillan) Hoyler of Warren. His father is a professor at the Naval War College, Newport.
Mr. Hoyler graduated from H.B.Woodlawn High School in Arlington, Va., in 2001.
Before enrolling in college, he had pedaled his bicycle from Oregon to Virginia. Last summer, he hiked the Long Trail in Vermont. He had also spent two summers at Bound School in Scotland.
Mr. Hoyler had been a volunteer at the International Justice Mission, a Christian human rights organization. He had intended a career in human rights law.
He was a skilled bagpiper and fly fisherman.
Besides his parents, he leaves three sisters, Margo, Georgia and Elizabeth Hoyler, all of Warren; his maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas McMillan of Medford, N.J.; and several aunts and uncles.
A service for Mr. Hoyler was on Saturday, Oct. 12, at Barrington Congregational Church. He was buried in St. Helena Episcopal Church in Beaufort, S.C.
James Givens
Liferaft inventor, Army veteran
James Givens, 69, died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2002, at the Heatherwood Nursing Center in Newport after a long illness.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1933, he was raised in orphanages and foster homes. He joined the Army at age 17 and served in Korea as a member of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. He is remembered be fellow infantrymen as an exceptionally brave and devoted soldier with a single-minded sense of duty who was recommended for the "Soldier's Medal," bud sadly, never received it.
Mr. Givens will be remembered for inventing a stabilized inflatable liferaft known as the Givens Buoy liferaft. He received several international patents for the design and for shaking up the liferaft industry by bringing to the attention of the U.S. Coast Guard and SOLAS, the shortcomings of existing designs. His brilliant salesmanship and bulldog-like persistence brought him from total obscurity to international recognition for saving lives of people at sea in terrible conditions.
He leaves six children, Christopher and Jared Givens, both of Dartmouth, Mass., Lynlea Opy of Seattle, Adrienne and Tiffany Givens, both of Newport, and Meaghan Barker from Westport ; and two former wives, Sharon Givens of Vancouver, British Columbia, and Meredith Russo of Dartmouth, Mass.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Givens on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
Robert Lee
Was president of Basic Service Corp.
Robert Lee, 84, of Sakonnet Bay Manor, 1215 Main Road, Tiverton, died Monday at Newport Hospital after an illness. He was the husband of Dorothy (Parker) Lee.
Born in 1918 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he was a son of the late Thomas and Diane (Stewart) Lee.
He lived in New Britain, Conn., before moving to Kensington, Conn. in 1952 and eventually to Tiverton many years ago. He had summered in Jerusalem since 1964, and wintered in St.Croix for the last 20 years.
Mr. Lee was employed in the sales and marketing division of Stanley Tools and retired in 1977 as manager of retail sales. He then was president of Basic Service Corp., the Sonitrol Security dealership.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He had been a member of the South Congregational-First Baptist Church of New Britain since 1930.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Robert P. Lee of Swansea; three daughters, Dorothy Hutchins of Honolulu, Virginia Lee of Pawtucket and Barbara Watson of Hong Kong; 10 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
His funeral service was held Saturday, Nov. 2, in South Congregational-First Baptist Church, 90 Main St., New Britain, Conn. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in New Britain.
Michael A. Martin
Former Tiverton resident, worked at Lightolier
Michael A. Martin, 35, of Wing Avenue, Assonet, Mass., and formerly of Tiverton, died Monday, Oct. 28 at home.
Born in Newport, he was a son of Helen (Plonka) Martin of Assonet and the late Adelbert A. Martin. He had lived in Tiverton before moving to Assonet 31 years ago.
Mr. Martin was a buffer-polisher at Lightolier in Fall River for three years.
In addition to his mother, he leaves a brother, Mark Martin of Fall River; four sisters, Lori-Ann Breault of Lakeland, Fla., Tami Martin and Jodi A. Martin, both of Fall River, and Debi Oliveira of Berkley, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Saturday in Hathaway Home for Funerals in Fall River. Burial was private.
Guilherme Faria Calisto
Born in the Açores, worked at Converse 25 years
Guilherme Faria Calisto, 75, of Church Street, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002, at Grace Barker Nursing Home. He was the husband of Maria dosAnjos Carreiro deAlmeida Calisto.
Born in the Açores, Mr. Calisto was the son of the late Antonio doRego and Leontina (Faria) Calisto.
He lived in the Açores for 26 years and Canada for 15 years before coming to Bristol, where he lived for 34 years.
He was a machine operator for Converse manufacturing for 25 years and also worked for R and J Jewelry for two years.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Susana Calisto of Warren and Louise Calisto of Bristol; three brothers, Jose Luciano Calisto of Bristol, Fernando Calisto of Quebec, Canada, and Antonio Rego of Sao Miguel, Açores; and a sister, Maria do Carmo Aguiar of Sao Miguel, Açores.
He was also the brother of the late Margarida Amaral.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 4, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth Church. The Rev. Fernando Cabral was the celebrant of the Mass. Maria Angelina Pacheco and Louise Calisto were the readers. Susana Calisto, Louise Calisto and Orlanda Carreiro presented gifts.
Burial followed in North Burial Ground, where the Rev. Cabral offered committal prayers. Onesimo Almeida, Jose Urbano Almeida, Manuel Fabio, Eduardo Aguiar, Rodrigo Marques and Geraldinho Botelho were the pallbearers.
Edward J. Cox
Formerly of Tiverton, worked in garment industry
Edward J. Cox, 85, of 500 Wilbur Ave., Somerset, formerly of Redwood Road, Tiverton, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2002, at Clifton Rehabilitation Nursing Center, Somerset. He was the husband of the late Rita "Pat" (Berube) Cox.
Born in Fall River, a son of the late James and Annie Cox, he had lived in Tiverton for many years before moving to Somerset three years ago.
Mr. Cox had worked in Fall River's garment industry for many years at firms including Whittendon Garment, Taunton, where he spent several years.
He was a Marine veteran of World War II.
Mr. Cox leaves a son, Edward J. Cox II of Bristol; two daughters, Barbara Felker of East Greenwich and Patricia A. Furze of Rumford; two sisters, Gertrude Turgeon of Tiverton and Dorothy Ring of San Diego, Calif.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Annie Bishop and James and Thomas Cox.
His funeral was held on Wednesday, Nov. 6, from the Auclair Funeral Home, Fall River. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
Rose Camera
Longtime resident, devoted wife and mother
Rose (Alfano) Camera, 80, of 27 Paull St., died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2002, at Metacom Manor Health Center. She was the wife of Joseph Camera for 54 years.
Born in Warren, she was the daughter of the late Francesco and Immaculate "Margaret" (Sullo) Alfano. She was a Bristol resident for 54 years.
She worked as a seamstress at Priscilla Sportswear and at the former U.S. Rubber Company of Bristol. Following her retirement she did part time housekeeping at Silver Creek manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Camera was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to bake for her family.
Besides her husband, she leaves a son, Joseph P. Camera; a daughter-in-law, Susan A. Camera; a granddaughter, Kathryn M. Camera, all of Bristol; two sisters, Phyllis Figuerida of Warren and Mary Codola of Barrington; and two brothers, Anthony Alfano of Warren and Louis Alfano of Riverside.
She was also the sister of the late William Alfano.
Funeral services were from the Sansone Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 4, with a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial followed in North Burial Ground.

Anna E. Cardoza
Funeral services for Anna E. Cardoza were held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth Church.
The celebrant of the Mass was the Rev. Thomas J. Ferland. The con-celebrant of the Mass was the Rev. Louis Diorgo.
Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, where Rev. Ferland offered the committal prayers.
Gifts were presented by her daughters-in-law Alice and Barbara Cardoza and son-in-law Frank Balzano.
Bearers were Mrs. Cardoza's grandsons Michael A. Cardoza, David A. Cardoza and Paul Cardoza, along with Philip Normandin, George (Butch) W. Normandin and Alan J. Merrit.
Mrs. Cardoza, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Silver Creek Manor. She was the wife of the late Antonio "River" Cardoza.
John Motta Jr.
Lifelong resident; World War II veteran
John Motta Jr., 86, of Cedar Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at Roger Williams Hospital. He was the husband of the late Angelina (Mello) Motta.
Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late John and Maria Motta.
Mr. Motta was a World War II veteran and a rubber worker for Davol Rubber Company for 35 years before retiring in 1976.
He was a member of the V.F.W. of Bristol.
He leaves a son, John Motta III, of Bristol; a daughter, Barbara Lindsey of New York; a brother, Manuel Motta of Florida; three sisters, Eva Maturi of Bristol, Margaret Ventura of Connecticut, and Loretta Corbin of Rehoboth, Mass.; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
He was also the brother of the late Joseph Motta.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 8, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home at 8 a.m. with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Elizabeth Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Karen L. Pedersen
Avid swimmer and boater, honor student in high school
Karen L. Pedersen, 37, of Westwood Street in Bristol, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2002, at her home. She was the daughter of Linda C. Larson and stepfather Ralph H. Larson of Bristol.
Born in Norwich, Conn., Ms. Pedersen moved to Bristol 30 years ago.
She, along with her identical twin sister Kelly Pedersen, whom she loved very much, was a Rhode Island Honor Society student at Bristol High School, where they both excelled in track and field.
Both Kelly and Karen received full scholarships to Lake Erie College in Chicago.
Described by her mother and stepfather as a "beautiful girl" with "a heart of gold," Ms. Pedersen was an avid swimmer and boater.
She leaves her mother, Linda C. Larson; her sister, Kelly L. Pedersen of Bristol; her stepfather, Ralph H. Larson of Bristol and a godmother, Muriel Kane of Bristol.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church. Internment will be private.
Charles M. Coelho
Businessman and philanthropist
Charles M. Coelho, 57, of Bristol, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at his home following a three-year battle with cancer. He was the husband of Concetta (Conte) Coelho of Bristol.
Born in Vila Franca do Campo, Sao Miguel, Açores, he moved to Bristol at the age of nine. He was the son of the late Antonio C. and Jovina (Oliveira) Coelho.
He was the owner of the Bristol Lawns Company for 33 years. He was also a franchisee of Dunkin Donuts in East Providence and Seekonk, owning four stores.
Mr. Coelho was a member of the Santo Christo Committee of St. Elizabeth Church, the Don Luiz Philipe Society, the Bristol F.O.P., Bristol Sports Club and the manager of the Bristol Lawns Soccer Club.
Mr. Coelho sold the land to the Town of Bristol that became the Charles Coelho Playground at Hope Villa Park.
The land was valued at $120,000 at the time, but Mr. Coelho let Bristol have it for $80,000, so long as the land remained a park.
"My kids play here... It's been a park for years, and I thought maybe if I did something good for the town, maybe others will follow... Maybe this will set an example for the giants in town," he said at the time.
Besides his wife, Mr. Coelho leaves two sisters, Madeline C. Toste of Barrington and Mary Angel Coelho of Bristol; four sons, Adam C., Charles, Jonathan C. and Jeremy Coelho, all of Bristol; a daughter, Kristina C. Coelho of Bristol; and a brother, Antonio C. Coelho Jr. of Tiverton.

Norma A. Piccirilli
Lived in town her entire life
Norma A. Piccirilli, 62, of Anoka Avenue, died Friday, Nov. 1, 2002 at home. She was the wife of the late Louis A. Piccirilli Jr.
Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Alden and Doris (French) Dudley, she was a lifelong Barrington resident. Mrs. Piccirilli had been a waitress at Bickford's in Seekonk for 23 years before retiring in September because of illness.
She leaves four daughters, Linda Laverdiere, Carol Whelan and Patricia Cummings, all of Seekonk, and Susan McCarthy of Barrington; a brother, Roger Dudley of Fall River; and six grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Deborah Piccirilli.
Funeral and burial services will be private.
Ernest Robertson
Civil engineer, was Navy veteran of Vietnam
Ernest Robertson, Jr., 62, of Westport, died unexpectedly Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Delores (Grillo) Robertson.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Ernest and Ruby (Holt) Robertson. He had lived in Westport for the past 33 years.
Mr. Robertson was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1957.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church in Westport,
Mr. Robertson was employed as a junior civil engineer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until his retirement.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of Vietnam.
He was a member of the Fall River Lodge of Elks No. 118, the American Men Bowling League of Westport and the Touisset Country Club in Swansea.
Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Kelly J. Roderick of Westport, Kim M. Lotz of Tiverton, R.I., and Kristin M. Harney of Fall River; a brother, Russell E. Robertson of Fairhaven; five grandchildren; and a nephew.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Nov. 8, at Our Lady of Grace Church. Arrangements were under the direction of Potter Funeral Home in Westport.
Anna Ruginis
Leaves a son here
Anna (Visgirda) Ruginis, 81, of 7 Creek Lane, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was the wife of the late Alphon H. Ruginis.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Savickas) Visgirda.
She spent most of her life in Brooklyn, also living in Venice, Fla., for eight years, and Bristol for two years.
Mrs. Ruginis worked as a tax preparer for many years with H and R Block in Brooklyn.
She leaves a son, Robert A. Ruginis of Bristol; two daughters, Arlene Berchtold of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Carol Rispoli of Falls Church, Va.; two sisters, Helen Augulis of New Hyde Park, N.Y., and Margie ReSavage of Brooklyn and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were from the McLaughlin and Sons Funeral Home in Brooklyn on Saturday, Nov. 9, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Anselm's Church in Brooklyn. Burial followed in St. John's Cemetery, Brooklyn.
Eva M. Heyworth
Holding of gold cane, was active in church
Eva M. (Briggs) Heyworth, 101, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002. She was the wife of the late John W. Heyworth.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Nellie A (Chace) Briggs. She had been a resident of Westport since 1961.
Mrs. Heyworth lived a full life. She was an active member for many years of the Westport United Congregational Church. She enjoyed traveling through Europe as well as doing arts and crafts.
Mrs. Heyworth held the gold cane for being the oldest living resident of Westport.
She leaves a daughter, Constance F. Cahoon of Westport; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Stanley Briggs, Norman Briggs and Joseph I. Briggs.
Service will be private. Arrangements are by the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road.
Idalina Perry
Sewing machine operator lived here since 1962
Idalina "Dolly" (Pacheco) Perry, 77, of Pleasant Street, Westport, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the wife of Louis Perry; they were married for 56 years.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Belmira (Amaral) Pacheco. She had lived in Westport since 1962.
Mrs. Perry was a sewing machine operator at Shelburn Shirt Co. for 45 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Westport Senior Citizens Club and the Espirito Santo Holy Rosary Society.
She was a member of Espirito Santo Church.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Perry leaves two brothers, Arthur Pacheco of Fall River and the Rev. Agostinho Pacheco of McAllen, Texas; two sisters, Mary (Pacheco) Mosher and Irene Habib, both of Westport; several nieces and nephews; and several godchildren.
She was the sister of the late Manuel Pacheco.
Her funeral will be at 9 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 14, at the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St., Fall River, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at Espirito Santo Church on Alden Street, Fall River.
Entombment will be in Notre Dame Cemetery.
Cecilia T. Keavy
Formerly of Portsmouth, owned Dunkin' Donuts shop
Cecilia T. Keavy, 83, formerly of 649 Park Ave., Portsmouth, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the Grand Islander Health Care Center, Middletown. She was the wife of the late James Everett Keavy.
Born in Fall River on April 12, 1919, she was a daughter of the late James J. and Mary (Reynolds) Vickers. She had lived in Portsmouth for many years before moving to Middletown. She and her husband had been winter residents of Largo, Fla., for more than 25 years.
Mrs. Keary had owned and operated the Dunkin' Donuts franchise on Robeson Street, Fall River, the chain's first shop in the area, from 1960 to 1970. During World War II she had worked in the personnel department at the Newport Navy Base.
Mrs. Keavy was a parishioner of St. Anthony's Church, Portsmouth, and was a former member of the Catholic Women's Club of Portsmouth.
She was active in the Portsmouth Democratic Party and was a member of the Portsmouth Garden Club and the Portsmouth Homemakers.
She leaves a daughter, Patricia C. McKay of Portsmouth; a sister, Patricia Dolan of Clearwater, Fla.; and two grandsons, Sean Patrick McKay of Natick, Mass., and Timothy McKay of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was the sister of the late James J. Vikckers Jr. and John and Thomas Vickers.
Her funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 15, at 8 a.m. from the O'Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring St., Newport, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in St. Lucy Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown's Lane, Middletown.
Dolores L. Fisette
Former Tiverton resident and homemaker
Dolores L. (Delisle) Fisette, 98, of South Street, East Raynham Mass., formerly of Warren Avenue, Tiverton, died Friday, Nov. 8, 2002, at the Life Care Center of Raynham. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Fisette.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Henry Delisle and the late Marie (St. Pierre) Delisle.
Mrs. Fisette was a homemaker and a communicant of the Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton, since 1984. She leaves a son, Roger F. Fisette of Bridgewater, Mass.; a sister, Miss Laurence M. Delisle of Tiverton; a brother, Maurice Delisle of Somerset, Mass.; three grandsons, Joseph Fisette of Bridgewater, Robert Fisette of Norwood, Mass., and Richard Fisette of Bedford, Mass.; two great-grandsons, Matthew Fisette of Bridgewater, and Nathan Fisette of Bedford, and a great-granddaughter, Noelle Fisette of Bedford. She was a sister of the late Lucille Delisle, Ulysse Delisle and Gerard Delisle.
Her funeral was held Wednesday, Nov. 13 from the Boule Funeral Home, Fall River, followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Ghost Church, Tiverton. Burial was at Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.
Mary L. Teachman-Mulford
Longtime resident, Star Creamery owner
Mary L. (Rose) Teachman-Mulford, 94, of Freemont Street, Portsmouth, died Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at the Grand Islander Nursing Home in Middletown after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Charles Mulford and the widow of the late Everett Teachman.
Born in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Victor S. Rose Sr. and the late Sinhera (Rose) Rose and had been a resident of Portsmouth for the better part of her life. She was the owner and operator of the Star Creamery in Portsmouth before her retirement.
Mrs. Teachman-Mulford was a member of the Portsmouth Methodist Church and also of their women's club. She was a past vice-president of the Portsmouth Historical Society, served on the board of directors of the Portsmouth Library, was a charter member of the Portsmouth Democratic Club and was a member of the Newport Women's Auxiliary in 1968. She also was a member of the A.A.R.P., the Johnny Cake Club and the Homemaker's Club.
She leaves a son, Robert E. Teachman of Little Compton; a brother, John H. Rose of Tiverton; two sisters, Dorothy Bettencourt of Dartmouth, Mass., and Helen Costa of Adamsville; and several nieces and nephews.
She also was the mother-in-law of the late Inex E. (Brayton) Teachman and grandmother of the late David R. Teachman.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Nov. 9 in the Portsmouth Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Potter Funeral Home in Westport.
James K. Gaw Sr.
Former Tiverton resident, worked at Raytheon
James K. Gaw Sr., 61, of Dunnelon, Fla., and formerly of Tiverton, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Anita (Joubert) Gaw, his wife of 41 years.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Bruce and Florence (Norris) Gaw.
An Army veteran, Mr. Gaw was a manager for Lockheed Martin in Florida for 17 years before retiring in 2000. He had also worked at Raytheon in Portsmouth for 20 years before moving to Florida in 1982.
He was a member of Wings of Faith Fellowship in Ocala, Fla., and Circle of Friends.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, James K. Gaw Jr.; two daughters, Sandra Gaw and Patty Mathieu, both of Ocala; a brother, Robert Gaw of Fall River; and five grandchildren.
His funeral was private.
