Agnes F. Stanzione
Funeral services for Agnes F. (Foley) Stanzione were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, from the Sansone Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. The Rev. Giacomo D. Capoverdi was the celebrant and homilist for the Mass. Offertory gifts were presented by her granddaughters Leanne M. Faris and Angela M. Stanzione. Music for the Mass was provided by daughter-in-law Diane Stanzione, flutist, Lisa Mello, organist/soloist, and Wendy O'Brien, soloist.
Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery where Father Capoverdi read the committal prayers. Her sons Timothy M. and Ralph M. Stanzione, grandsons Timothy J. Stanzione and Kyle D. Remy, and David J. Nunes served as pallbearers.

Adeline Almeida
Born in Bristol; World War II Army veteran
Adeline "Al" Almeida, 73, of Minster, Ohio, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at Joint Township District Hospital in St. Mary's, Ohio. He was the husband of Loraine Yeater.
Born in Bristol, he was the son of Jose and Maria (Rebello) Almeida.
Mr. Almeida worked for the Val Decker meat packing plant in Piqua, Ohio. He retired as a press operator at Mar Wil Products Company in Fort Laramie, Ohio, in 1982.
He was a World War II Army veteran who enjoyed woodworking and wood crafts.
Besides his wife, Mr. Almeida leaves two children, Robert Yeaten and Brenda Klein, both of Bremen, Ohio; two brothers, Ferdinandes (Fred) Almeida, Bristol and Edard H. Almeida Sr. of Warren; two sisters, Lucy Carreira of Bristol and Lorraine Mello of Portsmouth; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Alice Vierra.
Graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen, Ohio.
Guilhermina Pereira
Former jewelry worker, born in the Azores
Guilhermina Pereira, 76, of Wood St., Bristol, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, in Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. She was the wife of the late Leonel Silva Pereira.
Born in Ribeirinha, Sao Miguel, the Azores, she was a daughter of the late Jose Balaroza and Cecilia (Botelho) Pacheco. She came to the United States in 1952, settling in Bristol.
Mrs. Pereira was a jewelry worker at R&J Manufacturing for 21 years, retiring in 1993,
She enjoyed cooking.
She leaves five sons, Jose, Manuel, Mariano and Anthony Pereira, all of Bristol, Leonel Pereira, of Warren; a brother, Antonio Pacheco of Bristol; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Mariano Pacheco, Manuel Balaroza, Angelina Pereira and Maria Adriana Pacheco Cabral.
Her funeral was on Saturday, Feb. 1, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, Bristol, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Church, Bristol.
She was buried in St. Mary Cemetery, Bristol, where Rev. Cabral read the committal prayers. The following served as pallbearers: Joe Araujo, Kevin Pereira, Jeffy Pereira, Neson Pereira, Miky Pereira, and Tony Pacheco.
James F. Negus
Retired lift truck operator
James E. Negus, 85, of Main Road, Tiverton, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Fall River. He was the husband of Mertis E. (Davidson) Negus, his wife of 61 years.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Ralph T. and Lottie E. (Durfee) Negus. He was a lifelong resident of Tiverton.
Mr. Negus was a lift truck operator for 40 years at the Weyerhaeuser Lumber Co., formerly of Portsmouth, for 40 years before retiring in 1979.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a gunner's mate 3rd class aboard the D. E. Robert F. Peary and as a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a brother, Russell T. Negus of Portsmouth, and a niece, three nephews and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
At the request of the family, his funeral was private. Arrangements were by Potter Funeral Home in Westport.
Maude E. Munroe
Homemaker, Tiverton resident for49 years
Maude Elizabeth (Newman) Munroe, 78, of 371 Bulgarmarsh Road, died Saturday, Feb. 1, at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River.
She was the wife of the late Everett Clinton Munroe. Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Ben H. and Blanche (Russell) Newman, she had lived in Tiverton for 49 years.
Mrs. Munroe was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.
She leaves three sons, Kenneth R. Munroe of Swansea, Bruce E. Munroe of Tiverton and Timothy A. Munroe of Somerset; three daughters, Betty Lou Martins and Cheryl A. Moniz, both of Fall River, and Darlene G. St. Germain of Tiverton; a sister, Lillian E. Sallar of Fall River; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Everett C. Jr. and Eugene Munroe, and sister of the late Eugene Newman.
Her funeral was held Tuesday from Manuel Rogers & sons Funeral Home, Fall River, with a service in Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Main Road, Tiverton. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fall River.
Mary D. Sullivan
Longtime Fall River teacher
Mary D. Sullivan, 100, of Rock Street, Fall River, died Monday, Jan. 27, 2003, in Southpointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Care Center, Fall River.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Catherine (Harrington) Sullivan, she was a lifelong resident of Fall River, having lived on Rock Street for many years.
Miss Sullivan was a teacher in the Fall River School System, appointed to the Henry Lord Junior High School in 1925 where she served in the mathematics department until her retirement in 1967.
A 1920 graduate of BMC Durfee High School, she was a graduate of the former Bridgewater Normal School, now Bridgewater State College, where she received her bachelor and master's degrees in education. She also attended graduate school at Brown and Columbia universities.
She was a former communicant of Sts. Peter and Paul Parish and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church for many years.
She leaves three nieces, Margaret DeForge of Agawam, Mass., and Judith Gaffney and Kristine Heinrich, both of Naples, Fla.; four nephews, Richard L. Patz of Lincoln, John Patz of North Oaks, Minn., John Sullivan of Tabernacle, N.J., and Joseph Sulivan of Richmond, Va.; and several grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, some living in the Sakonnet area. She was the sister of the late Sr. M Begina RSM, John E., Jeremiah F. and Mildred Sullivan, Margaret Wimer, Katherine Hodnett and Leonora Patz.
Her funeral was Saturday, Feb. 1, from the Jeffrey E. Sullivan Funeral Home, Fall River, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph's Church, Fall River. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
Esme E. Peterson
Born in England
Esme E. Peterson, 89, of Owings Stone Road, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at home. She was the wife of the late Milton A. Peterson.
Born in Sheffield, England, a daughter of the late William and Laura (Howe) Moverly, she had lived in Barrington since 1956.
Mrs. Peterson was an office worker at the former Industrial National Bank before retiring in 1968. She will be remembered for her lovely gardens and especially her gorgeous roses, said her daughter. She was a member of the Barrington Garden Club, the Barrington Bogies Golf League, the Barrington Women's Club and the Rumstick Rollers Bowling League.
She leaves a son, Barrie M. Peterson of Fairfax, Va.; two daughters, Darcy G. Scott of Barrington and Judith P. Atwater of Plainfield, N.H.; and 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral and burial services will be private.

George H. Morra
Avid writer and artist was assistant scoutmaster
George H. Morra, 60, of 150 Franklin St., died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was a designer.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late George P. and Doris (Patt) Morra.
He was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. An avid writer and artist, he was assistant scoutmaster of Troop 5, Bristol.
He leaves two brothers, Robert J. Morra of Middletown and Michael J. Morra of Riverside; and a sister, Mary C. Brierly of Warren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, Hope Street, Friday at 10 a.m. Visiting hours are at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Dr. Joseph W. Heaton
Retired dentist, leaves daughter in Warren
Dr. Joseph W. Heaton, 80, formerly of Tiffany Circle, Barrington, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003, at his home.
Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph W. and Ellen (Fagan) Heaton. He was a resident of Barrington for more than 50 years.
Dr. Heaton had practiced dentistry for more than 45 years in Fall River and Seekonk before retiring in 1999.
A 1943 graduate of Providence College and a 1950 graduate of Georgetown University, School of Dentistry, in Washington, D.C., Dr. Heaton was a World War II veteran, serving as a lieutenant in the Dental Corps in Europe, Asia and the Pacific.
He was a former member of the St. Anne's Hospital board of directors and had been an Eagle Scout.
He leaves two daughters, Diane H. Davis of Warren, and Deborah A. Dellefratte of Riverside; a son, Robert C. Heaton of Portsmouth; and a grandson. He was the father of the late Joseph W. Heaton.
His funeral was on Saturday, Feb. 1, at W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, Riverside, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Luke's Church, Barrington. He was buried with military honors in Princess Hill Cemetery, Barrington.
Howard Boland
Former resident of Barrington
Howard Boland, 71, of Fort Myers, Fla. and formerly of Barrington, died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers. He was the husband of Marjorie Boland.
Born in Buffalo, N.Y., a son of the late Howard K. Boland Sr. and Hazel K. (Paul) Boland, he had served as director of employee-labor relations at Brown University from 1975 to 1997.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Gregory Boland of Hudson, Mass.; three daughters, Deborah Moore of Lyndon, Vt., Stephanie Gardner of Warner, N.H., and Kimberly Botelho of Tiverton; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held in the summer.
Frank A. Crandall
Former custodian and groundskeeper
Frank A. Crandall, 85, of Farnum Street, Tiverton, and formerly of 301 Bulgarmarsh Road, Tiverton, died Friday, Jan. 31, 2003, at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol.
Born in Newport on Sept. 19, 1917, he had lived in that city for most of his life. He moved to Tiverton in 1976.
Mr. Crandall worked at Metal Works in Tiverton until retiring. He had previously been a custodian at St. George's School and a groundskeeper at Island Cemetery in Newport.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the East Tiverton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Mr. Crandall leaves several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William H., Eugene F. and George J. Crandall.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of the East Tiverton Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses, 615 Fish Road, Tiverton.
Lorraine Souza
Former Holy Ghost parishioner
Lorraine (Archambault) Souza, 80, of 1748 Highland Ave., Fall River, and formerly of 320 Main Road, Tiverton, died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2003, at Highlander Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late John Frank Souza.
Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of the late Delphis and Laura (Simoni) Archambault. She had lived in Tiverton before moving to Fall River in 2000.
A homemaker for most of her life, Mrs. Souza also worked for the Shelbourn Shirt Co. She was a former parishioner of Holy Ghost Church in Tiverton.
She leaves two sons, John F. Souza of West Yarmouth, Mass., and Thomas A. Souza of Fall River; three daughters, Joan Shepherd of St. Petersburg, Fla., Judith Souza of Tiverton and Joyce Souza of Smithfield; four sisters, Jeanne Taylor and Florence Rebello, both of Fall River, and Patricia Cunya and Theresa Fernandes, both of Westport; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Cemetery, 2233 Robeson St., Fall River.
Roger J. Deveau
Professor at UMass enjoyed coin collecting, camping
Dr. Roger J. Deveau, 59, of Westport, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 2003, at home with his family by his side. He was the husband of Jeanine C. (Miller) Deveau.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of Del (Labrecque) Mello of Fall River and the late Norman J. Deveau. He lived in Westport for most of his life.
He was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church.
Dr. Deveau was employed by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth as a professor of business information systems for 32 years until his retirement in 2002. After retiring, he was awarded professor emeritus status.
He also worked as a lecturer and visiting faculty member at Tennessee State University, Nashville State Technical College, Okinawa International University and the University of Maryland, Far East Division. He was an adjunct faculty member of the Boston University Graduate Overseas Program teaching in Germany, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Outside of the university, Dr. Deveau had extensive experience as a professional consultant.
Among his clients were the Southeast Association for Technology Education Consortium, the Tennessee Exemplary Faculty for Advanced Technology Education, Saluti Associates Inc. and the Bureau for International Development.
He was published extensively in academic journals including International Society of Business Computing Association Quarterly Journal, Organizational Systems Research Association Journal (OSRA) and the Journal for Systems Management.
He was a former board member and treasurer of OSRA. He received the Charlton College of Business Beta Gamma Sigma Outstanding Service Award and the Delta Mu Delta Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award.
Dr. Deveau was an instructor at Rodman Job Corps Center in New Bedford. He also coordinated and directed the Fall River Community Development Recreation Adult Coed Volleyball League.
He enjoyed coin collecting, chess, recreational camping and traveling with his family.
Besides his wife and mother, he leaves a son, David F. Deveau of Westport; five daughters, Jennifer L. Deveau of New York City, Andrea L. Deveau and Amy S. Deveau, both of Kissimmee, Fla., and Laura S. Deveau and Bethany Deveau, both of Westport; two brothers, Paul J. Deveau of Boise, Idaho, and Dennis Deveau of Fall River; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Julie A. Deveau.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Church. Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are by Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road.
David A. Garvey
Shipwright, Army veteran
David Allen Garvey, 45, of 527 Bristol Ferry Road, Portsmouth, died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003.
Born in Appleton, Wis., he was a son of the late Percy and Beverly (Doerschner) Garvey.
Mr. Garvey had been a shipwright at various ship restoration companies for several years.
An Army veteran, he later served as an operations specialist in the Navy.
He leaves a daughter, Deborah S. Garvey of Kittery, Maine; four brothers, Steven and James Garvey, both of Freedom, Wis., Michael Garvey of Shrocton, Wis., and Robert Garvey of Appleton; and two sisters, Barbara Garvey Colerud of Freedom and Mary Jo Ver Hagen of Appleton.
A memorial service was held Monday, Feb. 3 in Memorial Funeral Home in Newport.
William Ferreira
Worked for Gulf Chevron
William Ferreira, 76, of 29 Pleasant View Ave., Portsmouth, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Kelly) Ferreira.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late John and Anna (Rego) Ferreira.
Mr. Ferreira had worked for Gulf Chevron, Chelsea Terminal, before retiring 20 years ago. A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific and Asia.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, William Ferreira of Cranston, David Ferreira of North Kingstown and James Ferreira of Portsmouth; a daughter, Nancy DeSousa of Little Compton; three sisters, Rose Harris of Indiana, Antoinette Smith of Newport and Ann Bananto of Chicago; and six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
His funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 5 from Connors Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Barnabas Church in Portsmouth. Burial was in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown.
Thomas M. Foley
Senior probation councilor, formerly of Tiverton
Thomas M. Foley, 56, of 15 Lincoln St., Jamestown, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at home after a two-year illness. He was the husband of Priscilla (Burr) Foley.
Born in Newton Center, Mass., a son of the late Joseph E. and Margaret (McGuire) Foley, he spent his childhood in the Stone Bridge area of Tiverton and had been a resident of Jamestown since 1976.
Mr. Foley was a senior probation counselor for the state from 1974 until he retired in November. He had also been the chief of staff for the state's Senate majority leader in 1989 and 1990.
He was a graduate of Newport's De LaSalle Academy and Our Lady of Providence Seminary, and received a master's degree from the University of Rhode Island.
A conscientious objector during the Vietnam War, he was given alternative service to perform at Butler Hospital.
He was a past executive board member of the Rhode Island Probation and Parole Association, of which he was also a past vice president, and the New England Council on Crime and Delinquency.
In Jamestown, Mr. Foley had been a member of the School Committee, Planning Board, and the Democratic Town Committee. He was also a member of the Senatorial District Committee for District 49, now part of District 13.
He enjoyed baseball, golf, politics, movies and collecting books.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Cameron B. Moore of Portsmouth; a brother, Joseph E. Foley of Annapolis, Md.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service was held yesterday in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Ave. Burial was private.
William F. Herlihy
U.S. Postal Service letter carrier for 28 years
William F. Herlihy, 87, of 2446 Highland Ave., formerly of Hillside Avenue, Tiverton, died Sunday, Feb. 2, at Catholic Memorial Home after an illness.
He was the husband of Rita M. (Smith) Herlihy. They had been married for 52 years.
Born in Fall River, he was a son of the late Michael W. and Ann C. (McNamara) Herlihy. He lived in Tiverton for 50 years.
Mr. Herlihy had been a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years, retiring in 1974.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, and also served in the Army Reserve, retiring as a major in 1975.
He was a 1933 graduate of BMC Durfee High School and a parishioner of St. Christopher Church, Tiverton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Michael J. and Paul X. Herlihy.
The funeral was held Wednesday from Silva-Faria Somerset Funeral Home, Somerset, with a funeral Mass in St. Christopher Church, Main Road, Tiverton. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River.
Helen E. Tavares
Lifelong resident of Little Compton
Helen E. Tavares, 85, of West Main Road, Little Compton, died Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at home. She was the wife of Angelo Tavares.
Born in Middletown, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Ray) Goulart. She was a lifelong resident of Little Compton and a homemaker.
She had been a member of the former Legion of Mary and the Rosary and Altar Societies of St. Catherine's Church.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter, Patricia H. Hanson of North Smithfield; a son, Anthony J. Tavares of Little Compton; two sisters, Evelyn R. Million of Virginia Beach, Va., and Martha L. Navarro of Tiverton; two brothers, John R. Goulart of Little Compton and Fort Myers, Fla., and George E. Goulart of Little Compton; and two granddaughters. She was the sister of the late Marie Medeiros and Francis, Joseph and Thomas Goulart.
Her funeral will be held from the Fern Acres Funeral Home, 72 Willow Avenue, Little Compton, on Friday, Feb. 14 at 9 a.m., with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Catherine of Siena Church, on the Commons, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Our Lady of Fatima Cemetery, Little Compton.
Filomena Oliveira
Funeral services of Filomena Oliveira were held Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2003, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Elizabeth Church. The Rev. Thomas J. Ferland was the celebrant of the Mass. The Rev. Fernando Cabral was the con-celebrant of the Mass. Linda R. Oliveira and Lusa Santos were the readers for the Mass, and presented gifts along with Jennifer L. Oliveira, Maria Moitoso, Analia Soares and Susan Almeida.
Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, where the Rev. Cabral offered the committal prayers. Joseph Moitoso, Helder DeRosa, Elmano Moitoso, Joseph Peixoto, David Peixoto and Manuel Moitoso served as pallbearers.
Mrs. Oliveira, 86, of Silver Creek Nursing Home, died Monday, Feb. 3, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Antonio J. Oliveira.
Ronald D. Coggeshall Sr.
Leaves brother in Tiverton
Ronald D. "Elsie" Coggeshall Sr., 59, of Fatima Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Susan (Barlow) Coggeshall.
Born in Newport, Mr. Coggeshall was the son of Elsie (Paquin) Coggeshall Lorence of Portsmouth and the late Gardner L. Coggeshall Sr. He lived in Newport of 21 years and Bristol for 38 years. He attended Newport schools.
Mr. Coggeshall was a general construction laborer for Rhode Island Laborers Union Local 673 for 20 years.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by a son, Ronald Coggeshall Jr. of Cranston; a daughter, Robin J. Harden of Cranston; a brother, Gardner L. Coggeshall Jr. of Tiverton; a sister, Karen M. Buovino of Portsmouth; and three grandchildren, Ryan M. and Kyle F. Coggeshall and Macey N. Harden.
His funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 12, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home in Bristol with a service at the First Baptist Church of Bristol.
Burial followed in the North Burial Ground in Bristol.
