George Aguiar, 67, of 3200 County St., Somerset, died Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Tiverton, a son of the late Frank and Maria (Ponte) Aguiar, he had lived in Somerset for most of his life. He was employed for 40 years as a maintenance worker at Haskon in Taunton before retiring in 1999. Mr. Aguiar was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He leaves a son, George Aguiar of Shirley, Mass.; two daughters, Ann Walsh of Riverside and Cindy Aguiar of Alaska; three brothers, Jessie Aguiar of Riverside, Frank Aguiar of Tiverton, and Henry Aguiar of Littleton, N.H.; a sister, Gertrude Duford of Brockton, Mass.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Alice Amaral and Mary Andrade. Arrangements are by the Oliveira Funeral Home, 2064 South Main St., Fall River.

Frank C. Botellio
Salesman, avid golfer, had seven great-grandchildren
Frank C. Botellio, 92, of Somers, formerly of New Bedford and Westport, died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Connecticut. He was the widower of Astrid (Anderson) Botellio. Born in Fall River, Mass., on Dec. 29, 1910, he was the son of the late Antone and Mary (Cabral) Botellio. He was a New Bedford resident for most of his life and later lived in Westport. He moved to Connecticut in 1994. He was a graduate of Barnstable High School, class of 1929. Mr. Botellio was employed in New Bedford as a salesman for C. Gilman & Sons for 25 years. He was an avid golfer and a dedicated Red Sox and UConn Huskies fan. He leaves two sons, James Botellio and his wife Joan, of Somers and John F. Botellio and his wife, Klaasje, of Vale, N.C.; four grandchildren, Karen Fitzpatrick, Steven Botellio, Joanne Tolisano and Jeffrey Botellio; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Antone, Manuel, Joseph, and Jesse Botellio and grandfather of the late James Botellio. His funeral was on Tuesday, April 15, from the Saunders-Dwyer Funeral Home, New Bedford with a Mass in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in New Bedford. Committal followed at St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford. Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels in Enfield, Conn., assisted with arrangements.

Steven J. Botelho
2001 Mt. Hope High School graduate, enjoyed soccer and basketball
Steven Joseph Botelho, 19, of Siegel Street, Bristol, died Saturday, April 19, 2003, at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Providence, he was the son of Armando and Kimberly (Darling) Botelho, both of Bristol. He was a 2001 graduate of Mt. Hope High School and attended Community College of Rhode Island. He was employed by Tasca Ford. Mr. Botelho was a member of the Lincoln Club soccer team and enjoyed playing soccer, basketball and hockey. Besides his parents, he leaves a twin sister, Amanda Botelho, and a brother, Edward A. Botelho, both of Bristol, and many aunts and uncles. He was the grandson of Joan Adler and Maria Botelho, both of Bristol, and Gilbert Darling of Coventry. His funeral is today, Wednesday, April 23, at 8 a.m., from George C. Lima Funeral Home, 367 High St., Bristol, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Church, 577 Wood St., Bristol He will be buried in St. Mary Cemetery, Bristol.

Robert E. Medeiros
Former metal fabricator, avid boater
Robert E. Medeiros, 63, of Cala Avenue, Tiverton, and formerly of Sawdy Pond Avenue, Fall River, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 13, 2003, at home. He was the husband of Marie D. Van Cala-Medeiros and the former husband of Nancy (Bruni) Medeiros. Born in Fall River, a son of the late Joseph C. Medeiros and the late Simone (St. Germaine) Medeiros, he lived in Fall River for most of his life. Mr. Medeiros worked as a sheet metal fabricator with Milhench Supply Company in New Bedford, Mass., for over 30 years. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 1003. An avid boater, he enjoyed the outdoors. He was a communicant of St. William's Church in Fall River. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Kevin J. Medeiros and his wife, Brenda, of Fall River, Gregory P. Medeiros and his wife, Michelle, of Westport, Michael A. Medeiros and his wife, Pamela, of Tiverton, and Stephen R. Medeiros of Fall River; two stepsons, Keith R. Fernandes and his wife, Alycia, of Fall River, and Kenneth B. Fernandes and his wife, Genna, of Tiverton; a brother, Ernest Medeiros and his wife, Linda, of Portsmouth; a sister, Margaret Malloy and her husband, Arthur, of Somerset; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph Medeiros. His funeral was held Wednesday, April 16 from the Jeffrey E. Sullivan Funeral Home in Fall River, with a funeral Mass in Holy Trinity Church, Fall River. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River.

Thomas E. Shea
Former warehouseman, Portsmouth resident
Thomas E. Shea, 87, of Anthony House, 51 Middle Road, Portsmouth, and formerly of Walter Street, Fall River, died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late of Eva A. (St. Amand) Shea. Born in Fall River, the son of the late John T. and Annie (Hadfield) Shea, he lived in Fall River most of his life and in Portsmouth for several years. Mr. Shea was employed as a warehouseman at the Newport Naval Base for 32 years, retiring in 1973. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. He leaves two daughters, Rosemary A. Buckley and her husband, Richard, of Portsmouth and Marlene M. Bouffard and her husband, Bertrand, of Fall River; two sons, Richard J. Shea and his wife, Jan, of Washington, D.C., and Thomas M. Shea and his wife, Jody, of Wilbraham, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Timothy and Michael Buckley, Suzanne Bouffard and Erin, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Kristin, and Erich Shea; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rita Fortin and John and Mary Shea. His funeral was Tuesday, April 15 from the Auclair Funeral Home in Fall River with a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of the Angels Chapel of Good Shepherd Parish, Fall River. Walter L. Begnoche
Farmer appreciated antique tractors, July 4 parade
Walter L. Begnoche, 80, of Westport died Friday, April 11, 2003, at Southcoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Somerset after a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Westport, he was the son of the late Alphonse "Fred' Begnoche and the late Elizabeth F. (Pettey) Begnoche. He was formerly employed as an agricultural farmer for Bojuma Farm and Dan & Freeman Farm, both of Westport Harbor. Mr. Begnoche enjoyed Plow Days at the farm where he would view the antique tractors. He looked forward to the Fourth of July Parade every year in Westport. He was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Mr. Begnoche was a Westport High School graduate, Class of 1941. He leaves his dear friends, Alston "Skip" Potter III, his wife, Dianne, and their daughter, Kerry, all of Westport. He was the brother of the late Anne L. Begnoche. A graveside service was held on Monday, April 14, at Beech Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Potter Funeral Home.

Skilled auto body repairman in Portsmouth
Anthony Peter Coute, 54, of 24 Halsey Street Newport, formerly of 48 Gould Street, Newport, died Sunday, April 13, 2003 at Newport Hospital. Born in Newport, on Aug. 28, 1948, he was the son of Marie Alice (Janeiro) Coute of Newport and the late Antone Peter Coute Mr. Coute was an auto body repairman with Aquidneck Collision of Portsmouth, Enterprise, Barry Pontiac and various other auto body shops in the Newport area. Mr. Coute earned a reputation for his auto body work talent and for restoring old cars. He enjoyed salt water fishing, car races and auto shows. He attended Rogers High School and was an Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Besides his mother he leaves four sons, Anthony DelRoss, Troy DelRoss, and Timothy DelRoss, all of Denver, Col., and Joshua A. Coute of Middletown; a sister, Lorraine F. Rodger C. Grant Sr.
Former Prudence lighthouse keeper
Rodger C. Grant Sr., 80, of Lake Wales, Fla., formerly of Portsmouth, died of cancer on Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at The Grove Center. He was the husband of Jeanne M. Grant. Born in Attleboro, Mass., on Dec. 2, 1922, a son of the late Lester and Mable (Clark) Grant, he lived in Portsmouth before moving to Lake Wales in 1985. Mr. Grant was a line supervisor for Texas Instruments before retiring. He also worked for the Coast Guard as keeper of the Prudence Island light. He was chairman of the Portsmouth Water District and designed the district's building. An Army veteran of World War II, serving in Company B, 1875 TH Engineers, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and the China-Burma India Association. He had served as a mini-state Basha State commander in 1988 and 1999. He was of the Protestant faith. He and his wife performed as a musical duo, called the Grantones, and Mr. Grant composed the song "Patriots March." Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Rodger Grant Jr. of Lake Wales and Jim Grant of Narragansett; two brothers, Lester Grant of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Alvin Grant of Prudence Island; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. His funeral was held Tuesday, April 15 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales.

Fritz Ulmschneider
Volunteer firefighter born in Barrington
Fritz Ulmschneider, 88, of Seekonk, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at home. He was the husband of P. Frances (Incollingo) Ulmschneider; they had been married 66 years. Born in Barrington, a son of the late Joseph and Bertha (Toma) Ulmschneider, he lived in Seekonk for 40 years. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he was a self-employd interior decorator. Mr. Ulsmschneider was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Seekonk and a member of the Sowams Volunteer Fire Company in Barrington. He was an avid gardener. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Joseph P. Collins of Rehoboth and David P. Horne of East Greenwich, and six grandchildren. He was the father of the late David J. Ulmschneider, Paul Trainor and Rick Collins, and brother of the late Barbara, Alfred and Joseph Albert, and William, Charles and Otto Ulmschneider. Funeral services were held Monday, April 14, from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home in Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Burial followed in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Warren.

Louise S. Wallis
Helped found Wallis Seafood in Barrington
Louise S. Wallis, 91, of Williams Street, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at the Phillip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence, following a brief illness. She was the wife of Russell E. Wallis; they were married 57 years. Born in East Providence, the daughter of the late Antonio and Luiza (Ferreira) Silvia, she lived in Barrington most of her life. Mrs. Wallis graduated from the former L.R. Peck High School in Barrington in 1929, and worked for Brown & Sharpe until her marriage in 1945. She was a co-founder of Wallis Seafood. She was active in the Cub Scouts, was a former member of the Barrington PTA, the Barrington Womens' Club and the St. Luke's Young at Heart Club, and was once honored on WEAN Radio as "Good Neighbor of the Week." Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Russell E. and Thomas J. Wallis, both of Barrington; and four grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Robert E. Wallis. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, in St. Luke's Church, 108 Washington Road. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ocean State Fisherman's Family Fund, 52 Bridge St., Warren, R.I. 02885. Arrangements are by the Smith-Mason Funeral Home in Riverside.

Josephine Polak, 83, of the Grace Barker Nursing Center in Warren, died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at the center. She was the wife of the late Frank B. Polak. Born in Warren, a daughter of the late Carlo and Rosario (Ranieri) Vaccaro, she lived in Barrington for 55 years, later moving to Kickemuit Village in Warren. Mrs. Polak was a school-lunch worker in Warren schools and also at St. Mary's Home for Children in Warren. An avid golfer, she was a gourmet cook and loved to sew. She leaves three sons, Frank P. Polak of Flanders, N.J., Frederick M. Polak of Pawtucket, and Theodore J. Polak of Smithfield; two daughters, Joanne H. Runey of Mount Pleasant, S.C. and Patricia D. Borges of Bristol; a brother, Andrew Vaccaro of Key Largo, Fla.; two sisters, Anna Boulanger of North Providence and Rosemarie Fludder of Bristol; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late James E. and Genevieve Polak and a sister of the late Michael and Louis Vaccaro. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 12, from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home in Warren, with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Warren. William J. Condon
Earned Purple Heart during World War II
William J. Condon, 78, of Oviedo, Fla. and formerly of Middle Highway, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at the Kindred Central Hospital in Tampa, Fla. He was the husband of Marie (Malone) Condon. Born in Providence, a son of the late James and Anna (Freeman) Condon, he lived in Barrington for 30 years before moving to Oviedo 10 years ago. A postal worker in Barrington for 30 years until retiring in 1987, he was a member of the Barrington Democratic Club and the Disable American Veterans. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, receiving the Purple Heart. Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Patricia A. Schauble of Barrington, Kathleen M. Poirier of Bristol, and Christine T. Groves and Margaret M. Chobanian, both of Seekonk; eight grandchildren and a great-grandson. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday, April 10, in St. Margaret's Church in Rumford. Burial with military honors followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Providence. Dorothy E. Gallagher, 85, of Ocala, Fla. and formerly of Barrington, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Summerfield Suites Hospice Center in Ocala. She was the wife of Charles Gallagher. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Grace) Roderick, she lived in Barrington before moving to Florida 26 years ago. Mrs. Gallagher was a cashier in the Rhode Island Hospital cafeteria for seven years before retiring in 1975. She was a communicant of St. Jude Church in Ocala, and a former communicant of St. Luke's Church in Barrington. Besides her husband, she leaves five daughters, Doreen Bengtson and Dorothy E. and Christine Gallagher, all of Ocala, Kathleen Lentini of Scituate and Joan Gosselin of Cumberland; nine grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. She was a sister of the late Joseph Roderick, Mary Piver, Angel Gaipo and Lena Lawrence. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 12, from the W. Raymond Watson Home in Riverside. A Mass of Christian burial was held in St. Joseph Church in Hopkinton. Burial was private.

Enjoyed gardening, leaves family in Warren
Isabel C. Fernandes, 91, a native of Hawaii, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, at Grace Barker Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late Francisco E. Monica. Born in Ewa Mill, Hawaii, she was a daughter of the late Manuel and Orela (Camara) Medonza. She lived in the Riverside section of East Providence for 26 years, and in Warren for 13 years. Mrs. Fernandes enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. She leaves two sons, Cesar Monica of Warren and John Monica of Ewa Beach; a daughter, Maria I. Camara of Warren; two sisters, Maria Coelho of Warren and Filomena Nascimento of Lisbon, Portugal; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her funeral is today, Wednesday, April 16, at 8 a.m., from the Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, 615 Main St., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Metacom Avenue. She will be buried in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery.

Megan Anne Thurber, 22, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the Hilton Head Regional Medical Center. She was the wife of Fahd Ahmad. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of Sue Thurber of Hilton Head and William and Mary Thurber of Richmond, Va. Besides her parents and husband, she leaves a daughter, Kyli Anne Ahmad; a son, William Kadyn Ahmad; a sister, Elizabeth Anne Thurber of Hilton Head; a brother, William D. Thurber of Glen Allen, Va.; her paternal grandparents, William and Anne Thurber of Barrington; and her maternal grandfather, Robert Spratt of Port Orange, Fla. Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, at the Island Funeral Home and Crematory, with the Rev. Bill Henry officiating. Burial followed in Six Oaks Memorial Park. Edward M. Medeiros
Operated Treaty Rock Farm, owned the Country Stand
Edward M. Medeiros, 74, of Little Compton, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He was the husband of Geraldine (Potter) Medeiros. Born in St. Michael, the Azores, a son of the late John and Francisca (Silvia) Medeiros, he had lived in Little Compton for most of his life. He was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Little Compton. Mr. Medeiros was a farmer who, along with his brothers, operated Treaty Rock Farm in Little Compton for many years. He also owned and operated the Country Stand in Little Compton until he sold the business and retired in 1980. He later worked at Ferolbink Farm in Tiverton. Mr. Medeiros was for former civil defense director for the Town of Little Compton, a volunteer firefighter for the town, an American Red Cross volunteer, past Band Booster president for Portsmouth High School, and served on the A.S.C.S. Committee of Rhode Island. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Brian E. Medeiros of Little Compton; two brothers, Anibal and Antone Medeiros, both of Little Compton; three sisters, Mary Vale of Fall River, Lena St. Laurent of Tiverton and Cecile Robbins of Portsmouth; four grandchuldren, Jennifer, Crystal Brian and Chelsea Medeiros; two great grandchildren, Troy Medeiros and Miguel Macias, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, April 14, at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Little Compton. Burial was in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport. Kathryn J. Barbee
Excellent seamstress, avid golfer
Kathryn Jarrell "Kay" (Hampton) Barbee, 86, of 1215 Main Road, Tiverton, formerly of Florida, Massachusetts and Missouri, died Sunday, April 13, 2003, in Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River. She was the wife of Bud Barbee, Lt. Col. USAF (retired), to whom she would have been married for 61 years on April 18 of this year. Born in Nashville, Tenn., a daughter of the late Oscar P. and Kate (Greer) Hampton, she moved to St. Louis at an early age and spent most of her youth there. She lived on Palmer Avenue in Falmouth, Mass., from 1958 to 1962 before moving to Satellite Beach, Fla., where she lived for 29 years. She moved to Tiverton 18 months ago. Mrs. Barbee traveled extensively following her husband's career in the Air Force and lived many places, including all of the western states, Japan, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Brazil and New Hampshire. After her husband's retirement, they continued to travel extensively throughout Europe. She was a homemaker and an American Red Cross volunteer for 43 years. A graduate of University City High School in Missouri and a 1938 graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, she worked at the university's bookstore for several years and was president of its Delta Gamma Sorority, member of the Senior Women's Honorary Society and was voted best dressed woman on campus. She attended United Congregational Church, Little Compton. An excellent seamstress, Mrs. Barbee made most of her own clothes. She was an avid golfer and won several tournaments. In addition to her husband, she leaves two daughters, Kathryn "Kit" Lawrence of Westport and B. Lynne Barbee of Bloomfield, N.J.; three grandchildren; five great-grandsons; and five nieces and two nephews. Her burial was Wednesday, April 16 in Massachusetts National Veterans Cemetery in Bourne, Mass., followed by a celebration of her life in the United Congregational Church. Arrangements are by the Cherry Place Home of Waring Sullivan, Fall River.

John P. Viveiros Jr.
Lithographer for URI, active in community groups
John P. Viveiros Jr., 80, of 8 Dexter St., Newport, died Thursday, April 10, 2003 at home. He was the husband of Geraldine (Carrigan) Viveiros. Born in St. Miguel, the Azores on June 25, 1922, he was the son of the late John P. and Frances (Perreira) Viveiros. Mr. Viveiros was a 1941 graduate of Rogers High School. He worked as a lithographer in the URI Printing Department and served in the Army during World War II in Europe. Mr. Viveiros was president of the Holy Name Society at Jesus Saviour Church, chairman of the Island Watch Dogs and chairman of the board of Tenants Affairs. He founded and operated the Johnnycake Center in Newport for 24 years. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Viveiros was a former Boy Scout leader for Troop 7 in Pawtucket and was involved in the Cropwalk and the Catholic Charity Drive. Besides his wife of 56 years, he leaves seven sons, John P. Viveiros III of Olympia, Wash., Paul Viveiros of Providence, Richard Viveiros of West Warwick, Stephen Viveiros of Middletown, Robert Viveiros of Staten Island, NY, and Peter and Jacob Viveiros of Newport; six daughters, Geraldine Cassese of Westerly, Eileen Viveiros, Christine Sacco and Francine Nelson, all of Portsmouth, Kathleen Viveiros of Middletown, and Maureen Viveiros of Newport; three brothers, Marion Viveiros of Portsmouth, Joseph Viveiros of Newport, and Edward Viveiros of New Jersey; a sister, Mary Viveiros of New Hampshire; 21 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Patricia Zarlenga, 58, of Clement Street, Tiverton, died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in New Bedford. Born in Fall River, a daughter of Helen (Ravenelle) Zarlenga and the late Guido Zarlenga, she lived in Tiverton for 14 years. Ms. Zarlenga was a station manager for Ashley Mini-Mart. She was a member of the Third Baptist Church in Fall River. In addition to her mother, she leaves three sons, Robert N. Houde II of Somerset, Duane P. Houde of Westport and Keith A. Houde of Fall River; a daughter, Lorie A. Gervasio of Tiverton; two brothers, Vincent Zarlenga and Paul Zarlenga, both of Fall River; three sisters, Phylis Silvia, Diane Mathias and Maureen Martin, all of Fall River; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A prayer service was held on Saturday, April 12 from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, Fall River.

Bradford P. Homan
Lifelong Prudence Island resident
Bradford P. Homan, 61, of 48 John Oldham Road, Prudence Island died Tuesday, April 8, 2003, at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Charles M. and Rose (Gillen) Homan. He was a lifelong resident of Prudence Island. Mr. Homan was a teacher for the last three years at the Rhode Island Head Start Program in Providence. A communicant of Our Lady of Prudence Church, Prudence Island, he received his bachelor's degree in theology from Columban Fathers Seminary in Milton, Mass., in 1964. Following graduation, he joined the Peace Corps and served in Iran until 1967. He then attended the University of Oslo in Norway before returning to the United States in 1969. He received his master's in education degree in 1999 from Rhode Island College. He leaves a son, Nathanel T. Homan of Sunderland, Mass., and three brothers, Robert G. Homan of St. Augustine, Fla., Richard M. Homan of Covington, La., and David B. Homan of Prudence Island. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, April 12 in St. Mary's Church in Bristol. Burial was in St. Columba Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 222 Richmond St., Suite 200, Providence, RI 02903-4253.

Stanley J. Jakubiak
Portsmouth resident, dean at Roger Williams University
Stanley John Jakubiak, 69, of 5 East Terrace Portsmouth, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Newport Hospital. He was the husband of Betty Ann (Causey) Jakubiak. Born in Providence on Nov. 9, 1933, he was the son of the late Stanley Z. Jakubiak and Sophie Rose (Wnek) Jakubiak. Mr. Jakubiak was a dean of administrative services with Roger Williams University. A graduate of La Salle Academy in Providence, he went on to receive his bachelor's degree in business administration from Bryant College in Smithfield. He then earned a master's degree in business administration from the University of Rhode Island and had completed three years of study towards his doctorate from the University of Connecticut. He taught economics at Johnson and Wales College as well as at Roger Williams University. Mr. Jakubiak was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church and had helped with the church feast for many years. He was a former member of the Cup Defenders of Bristol. An avid golfer he enjoyed golfing in both Portsmouth at the Montaup Country Club where he was a member, and in Port Charlotte, Fla., where he and his wife had wintered for the last five years. Mr.Jakubiak was a fan of the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He enjoyed sitting down to read a good book especially if it was about history. Besides his wife of 44 years, he leaves a son, Raymond S. Jakubiak of Portsmouth; two daughters, Judith Ann Borden of Little Compton, and Joan Elizabeth Mathias of Tiverton; a sister, Joan R. Gadigian of Greenville; three aunts, Nellie Noble of North Providence, Stephanie Anzelone of Greenville, and Frances Rudowski of Warwick; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His funeral was held on Tuesday, April 22, from the Connors Funeral Home, Portsmouth, with a Mass of Christian burial in St. Barnabas Church, Portsmouth. Burial was in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 222 Richmond Street, Suite 200, Providence, RI 02903 or to the American Heart Association, New England Affiliate, 20 Speen Street, Framingham, MA 01701.
