Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Mark and Agnes (Coletta) Marcantonio, she had lived in Warwick for 30 years. Mrs. Grossi had been a claims representative for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for 10 years. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Stephanie L. Grossi of Warwick and Christina M. Grossi of New York City; and a brother, Mark J. Marcantonio of North Kingstown. The funeral was held from Russell J. Frederick C. Jones, 85, of Winchell Rd., a retired state employee, died September, 28, 2002, at home. He was the husband of the late Mary R. (Whitehead) Jones. Born in Newark, NJ, a son of the late Arthur and Rose (Shillam) Jones, he had lived in Warwick most of his life. Mr. Jones had worked at the Rhode Island Medical Center for 20 years, retiring in 1973. He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served as a staff sergeant in Europe and Italy. He leaves three sons, Frederick J. Jones of Gales Ferry, Conn., and Edward J. and Peter M. Jones, both of Warwick; a daughter, Marilyn C. Jones of Norwood, Mass.; a sister, Margaret Collins of Orleans, Mass.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Arthur, Raymond, George and Edward Jones, Edna Durfee and Rosemary Ormiston. The funeral was held from Frank P. John M. Ahlijanian, 73, of Lancaster Avenue, a retired fire-protection professional, died September, 28, 2002, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Rosalie K. (Kolligian) Ahlijanian. Born in Providence, a son of the late Misak and Vartoohi (Andrikian) Ahlijanian, he had lived in Warwick since 1963. Mr. Ahlijanian worked as a New England sales representative for fire protection products for Viking Sprinkler Corp. from 1986 to 1991, retiring in 1991. He had previously worked as a customer-service manager for Grinnell Corp. from 1959 to 1985. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1952 to 1954 with the Occupation Forces, Germany, and the Army Counter Intelligence Corporation. He was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, Class of 1951, and was active in its Alumni Association. He was a graduate of Central High School, Providence. He was a member of St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, Providence, and a member of its parish council. He was an active member of the National Fire Sprinkler Association and the American Fire Sprinkler Association, and a member of Knights of Vartan, the Armenian General Benevolent Union and the Armenian Students Association. He leaves two sons, Martin J. Ahlijanian of Warwick and David M. Ahlijanian of Providence; a brother, Harry Ahlijanian of Warwick; and two grandchildren, Mary and Mark Ahlijanian. The funeral was held from Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Route 5, with a service in St. Sahag & St. Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence. Alfred George Barnes - 9/28/2002
Alfred George Barnes of Puritan Drive died September 28, 2002, at the Hallworth House in Providence. He was the husband of Ellen (Forslund) Barnes to whom he was married 66 years this past August. Both in East Taunton, MA, a son of the late John and Mary (Muldoon) Barnes, he was a Warwick resident for 49 years. For many years, Mr. Barnes ran a Seafood Company in Providence. He then went to work for Allendale Insurance for 13 years retiring in 1981. He was a past Grand Noble of the James Wood Lodge I.O.O.F. Cranston Chapter. He was a longtime member of The Players, America's Oldest Little Theatre at Barker Playhouse. He was a member of Spring Green Baptist Church in Warwick. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing in his Cabin Cruiser. He performed in numerous musicals where he single-handedly stole the show. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his one liners. Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Ellen Barnes Selya of Newport and Providence; two granddaughters, Dawn Sherman of Tallahassee, FL, and LoriAnn Young of Dedham, MA; and two great-grandchildren, Bradford and Samantha Sherman of Tallahassee. He was the brother of the late Flora A. Fitz-Simon and Josephine Green. The Funeral was held in the Wilson Chapel of Central Congregational Church, 296 Angell St., Providence. She was the wife of the late James J. Fitzsimmons. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late William and Jane (Brennan) Mulvey, she had lived in Providence most of her life before moving to Charlestown in 1996. She was a former communicant of St. Michael Church, Providence, and St. Matthew Church, Cranston. She leaves two sons, James J. Fitzsimmons of Rehoboth and Robert W. Fitzsimmons of Warwick; a daughter, M. Jane Fitzpatrick of Charlestown; and five grandchildren, Keith, Kelly, Kymberli and Brooke Fitzsimmons, Alicia and Erin Fitzpatrick. She was the mother of the late Thomas E. Fitzsimmons and sister of the late Raymond and William Mulvey, Madeline Lopez and Ruth Beaupre. Owen J. Murphy Jr., 54, of East Northgate, Irving, Texas, formerly of Warwick, an independent salesman and a golf pro, died June 4, 2002, at home. Born in Providence, a son of Mildred M. (Cotter) Murphy of Warwick and the late Owen J. Murphy, he had lived in Warwick and New Hampshire before moving to Texas 24 years ago. He was a 1970 graduate of Providence College. Mr. Murphy was an independent sales representative and marketer of golf equipment for 10 years. He had previously been an insurance sales representative and owner of Granite Insurance Services in Dallas. An avid golfer, he had been an assistant golf pro at Hanover Country Club in New Hampshire and the coach of the Dartmouth College golf team. He had been a ski instructor at Dartmouth Skiway. He also enjoyed playing tennis and ran a tennis clinic for underprivileged children in Dallas. Besides his mother, he leaves a sister, Patricia A. Major of Warwick; a brother, Terence M. Murphy of Tokyo, Japan; and a niece. He was the brother of the late Robert F. Murphy. A memorial mass was celebrated in St. Clement Church, Long Street. Burial was private.

Ann R. McMahon, 85, of Greenwich Avenue, a retired police switchboard operator, died July 31, 2002, at Village at Hillsgrove. Born in the Apponaug section of Warwick, a daughter of the late Patrick J. and Susan (McGuinness) McMahon, she was a lifelong resident of the city. She was a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena Church and a former member of its choir. Miss McMahon was a switchboard operator at the Warwick Police Department for 25 years before retiring and had previously been a saleslady for many years at the former Kennedy's men's store in Providence. She was a member of the Apponaug Village Improvement Association and had volunteered at Warwick Central Adult Daycare and the Warwick Public Library. She leaves two sisters, Helen F. McGarry and Elizabeth McMahon, and a niece, Susan McGarry, all of Warwick; a nephew, William A. McGarry of North Kingstown; and two grandnephews, Matthew M. McGarry and Ryan P. McGarry. She was the sister of the late James, Francis, Mary and Josephine McMahon. The funeral was held from Peter J. Mary C. (Sansbury) Boulds, 81, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of Warwick, a retired Board of Canvassers clerk, died July 15, 2002, at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, New Port Richey, Fla. She was the wife of the late George Boulds Jr. Born in Wilkesville, Ohio, on Nov. 20, 1920, she had lived in Warwick before moving to Florida 16 years ago. Mrs. Boulds had been the clerk for the Warwick Board of Canvassers for many years. A Navy veteran of World War II, she was a life member of the WAVES National group. She was a member of the Warwick Retired Police and Fire Association. She leaves a son, Richard A. Boulds of Ridgefield, Conn.; a daughter, Joy Morris of Hudson; a sister, Darlene Cartwright in Ohio; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral and burial took place in Florida.

Mrs. Motta, a seamstress for 40 years in the textile industry in Fall River, had worked at Lamport Inc. for 15 years before retiring in 1974. She was a communicant of St. Kevin Church. She leaves a son, Ernest Motta of Warwick; two grandchildren, Michele A. Motta of Providence and Glenn A. Motta of Warwick; four great-grandchildren, Jennifer Cabral, Courtney Zwerver, Ashley Zwerver and Madeline Motta; and two great-great-grandchildren, Branden Cabral and Cody Cabral. She was the sister of the late Howard Fanning, Eunice Halsey, Bertha Billard and Ruth St. John. Mrs. Crossman was a meat wrapper and cashier at Ruggieri's Market in Cranston for many years and had worked at Big G supermarkets for several years before retiring in 1980. She enjoyed cooking. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Patricia Plake of San Diego, and Nancy Parrillo of Johnston; a son, Andrew Salisbury of Pawtucket; three sisters, Legia Phillips of Sierra Mesa, Calif., Ruth DaFonseca of San Diego and Kathleen Spohr of Los Altos Hills, Calif; a brother, Walter G. Ellsworth R.T. Doughty, 84, of Medford Street, a retired toolmaker, died August 1, 2002, at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of Gladys T. (Hartley) Doughty. Born in East Providence, a son of the late William F. and Elizabeth (Jones) Doughty, he had lived in Warwick most of his life. Mr. Doughty had been a toolmaker for many years before retiring from Electric Terminal Corp. He had served during World War II as a machinist with the Manhattan Project, which developed the atomic bomb. He was a deacon and trustee of Shawomet Baptist Church. Besides his wife, he leaves six sons, Russell E. and Paul N. Doughty, both of Warwick, Philip E. Doughty of Providence, Kenneth W. Doughty of Seminole, Fla., Steven J. Doughty of East Haven, Conn., and Carl E. Doughty of Coventry; 18 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A memorial service was held in Shawomet Baptist Church, West Shore Road. Russell F. Jamieson, 78, of Beechwood Drive, Safety Harbor, Fla., formerly of Warwick, a retired railroad linesman and foreman, died July 11, 2002, at Tandem Health Care Center, Safety Harbor, after an illness. He was the husband of Rita F. (Heron) Jamieson. Born in Providence on July 5, 1924, a son of Harriet V. (Mosher) Malone and the late Hugh Jamieson, he had lived in Warwick most of his life before retiring to Florida in 1984. Mr. Jamieson had worked for several railroad companies for 48 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. A sports enthusiast, he enjoyed golf. He was an animal lover. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves a son, Craig D. Jamieson of Cranston; two daughters, Dianne F. Ibarra of Dunedin, Fla., and Catherine E. Cormier of Greene; a brother, Robert Jamieson of North Kingstown; and four grandchildren. He was the stepson of the late Thomas E. Malone. The service and burial were private.

Edward B. Comeau Sr., 72, of Pierce Avenue, a retired tractor-trailer driver, died August 2, 2002, at Cedar Crest Nursing Center, Cranston, after a two-year battle with brain cancer. He was the husband of Miriam A. (Croak) Comeau. They had been married for 30 years. Born in Providence, a son of the late Frederick L. and Frances (Deveau) Comeau, he had lived in Warwick for 50 years. Mr. Comeau was a tractor-trailer driver for Sonoco Products in East Providence for five years before retiring in 2000. He was previously a tractor-trailer driver for various companies and had worked at Quonset Point/Davisville in North Kingstown. He repaired and painted cars. He also raced cars at Seekonk Speedway, No. 42 was his favorite. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War and a recipient of two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a past commander of Payne Post 174, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of American Legion William Shields Post 43, Robert T. Johnson VFW Post 183, Warwick Memorial VFW Post 272, the Cootie Division and the Disabled American Veterans. He had been chairman of the Voice of Democracy for the VFW. Mr. Comeau liked collecting tools of all kinds, fishing with family and friends, and going to auctions and flea markets. He had a lifelong love for German shepherds, especially Rinney and Hans, whom he had for 16 years. He was a communicant of St. William Church and a member of the Norwood Association. Besides his wife, he leaves five sons, Edward B. Comeau Jr. of West Warwick, Frederick L. Comeau of Scituate, Dennis W. Comeau of Cranston, and Dwayne S. and Francis L. Comeau, both of West Warwick; two daughters, Denise Drezek and Deborah Thornley, both of Warwick; a stepdaughter, Kathleen Albert of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Bertha Sand of Warwick; a brother, Frederick Comeau of Cranston; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Born in Renaix, Belgium, a son of the late Edmond J. and Marie (Dequenes) VanHoecke, he had lived in Warwick for 60 years, formerly residing in Providence. Mr. VanHoecke was a mechanic at Quonset Point-Davisville for 20 years before retiring in 1972. He was a communicant of St. Kevin Church and a fourth-degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus, Warwick Council. Mr. VanHoecke was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. (Botelho) Bowen. Born in Wakefield, the son of David A. and Cathy L. (Morris) Hurd, both of Warwick, he had been a resident of Warwick since 1986, formerly living in Providence. Mr. Bowen was a mechanic at Bay Buick in East Greenwich for a year, and had previously worked at the former Regine Pontiac and Pep Boys in Warwick. Besides his wife and parents, he leaves two sisters, Sarah J. Hurd and Jennifer J. Hurd, both of Warwick, and his paternal grandmother, Olga M. (Santurri) Hurd of Cranston. A funeral service was held in Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Burial followed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the RI Association For Cardiac Children, P.O. Box 3904, North Providence, RI 02911 would be appreciated.
Edward P. Audet - 3/25/02
Edward P. Audet, 83, of Riverside Drive, South Kingstown, a retired Chief of the Warwick Police Department, died March 25, 2002, at home. He was the husband of Patricia D. (Winseman) Audet. He was also the husband of the late Georgina (Cameron) Audet. He was born in Providence, a son of the late Ernest H. and Elizabeth M. (Finlon) Audet, and lived in Warwick before moving to South Kingstown in 1973. Mr. Audet was a member of the Warwick Police Department for 35 years and served as Chief of the Warwick Police from 1974 to his retirement in 1977. He was a member of the Warwick Police Association, the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association, the New England Police Chiefs Association, and the International Police Chiefs Association. He was a charter member of the Warwick Fraternal Order of Police. He was appointed by Governor Philip Noel as a member of the Police Officers Commission on Standards & Training. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of William Shields Post #43 American Legion in Warwick and a member of the V.F.W. Mr. Audet was a life member of Warwick Council #2295 Knights of Columbus, the Warwick Lodge of Elks #2196, and was a former member and captain of the Bayside Volunteer Fire Co. in Warwick. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Edward P. Audet of South Kingstown, James M. Paterson III of North Kingstown, and Kenneth W. Paterson of Narragansett; two daughters, Lynne C. Browning of Hopkinton and Nancy J. DeRita of Westerly; two brothers, Earl T. Audet of Marina Del Ray, California and Ernest W. Audet of Warwick; and 12 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Lambert and Eleanor Scheller. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Christ the King Church, Old North Road, Kingston. Burial with military honors was in Pawtuxet Memorial Park, Warwick. Carole V. Capron - 3/11/02
Carole V. Capron, 59, of Center Ossippee, NH, died March 11, 2002, at home after a brief battle with cancer. She was the wife of Edward U. Capron. They had been married for 40 years. Born in Providence, a daughter of Henry G. Deering, Jr. and the late Virginia (Durfee) Deering, she moved to Warwick in 1951. She graduated from nursing in Rhode island as an LPN. In the early 1970s Mrs. Capron moved to Center Ossipee, NH, and with her husband built Deer Cap Campground and Ski Touring Center, and in 1987 they started Deer Cap Orchard with apple trees and blueberry bushes. In 1988, after working at Mountain View Nursing Home in Ossipee for 17 years, she retired. Besides her husband and her father, she leaves two sons, Robert Capron of East Providence and David Capron of Center Ossipee; two sisters, Barbara Tougas and Beverly Trenn, both of Warwick; two grandchildren; and four nieces and two nephews. Funeral services were held at Lord Funeral Home in Wolfboro, NH.
