Dolores M. (Ormondroyd) Silvia, 71, of Spinnaker Lane, a retired bus monitor, died January 25, 2002, at home. She was the wife of the late George E. Silvia. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late William and Katherine (Flynn) Ormondroyd, she had lived in Warwick most of her life. Mrs. Silvia was a bus monitor for the Exeter-West Greenwich school system for eight years, retiring in 1995. She was a communicant of St. Gregory the Great Church. She leaves a daughter, Susan R. Rocheleau of Warwick; two sons, Gregory E. Silvia of Venice, Fla., and Mark E. Silvia of Topeka, Kan.; two sisters, Helen Bonneau of East Greenwich and Barbara Lynch of Warwick; and nine grandchildren. Charles K. Breard, 57, of Pheasant Avenue, a retired municipal driver, died November 27, 2001, at home. He was a companion of the late Judith A. Yates, who died Sept. 6. Born in Warwick, a son of Ruth R. (Williams) Breard of Warwick and the late Charles J. Breard, he was a lifelong resident of Warwick. He was employed as a driver for the Warwick Highway Department for 30 years before retiring. Besides his mother, he leaves a son, Michael T. Breard in Arizona; and three sisters, Mary Jo Bianchi, Charlene A. King and Donna F. Bathgate, and a brother, Michael J. Breard, all of Warwick. He was the father of the late Brian P. Breard. Marguerite A. Nana Fortin, 72, of Oakland Beach Avenue, died November 25, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital, after an illness. She was the wife of Robert H. Fortin; they had been married for 52 years. Born in Warwick, a daughter of the late Raymond C. and Ann B. (Wilson) Ellis, she had lived in the city for most of her life. Mrs. Fortin was a communicant of St. Rita Church. She was a life member of the Oakland Beach Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Susan P. Sweeney and Debora L. Piro, both of Warwick; three sons, Robert R. and Paul J. Fortin, both of Warwick, and William H. Fortin of Cranston; a brother, Raymond Ellis of West Warwick; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Roberta A. Raftery and Michael T. Fortin, and a grandmother of the late Timothy J. Fortin. Steven A. Nelson, 45, of Grove Avenue, a monitor and former Electric Boat worker, died November 26, 2001, at home. He was the companion of Holly E. Perreault of Warwick. Born in Providence, a son of Edna (Oakes) Nelson of Providence and the late Warren R. Nelson, he had lived in Warwick for 25 years. Mr. Nelson had been a monitor at the Robert J. Wilson House, Pawtucket, for the past year. Until 1999, he had been an NC operator for the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics, at Quonset Point, North Kingstown, where he had worked for 22 years. He was an Air Force Veteran. Besides his companion and his mother, he leaves three daughters, Julie Masciarelli of West Warwick, Amie Nelson of East Providence and Shennon Perreault of Warwick; a son, Drew Perreault of Warwick; two sisters, Peggy Cahir of Cranston and Patricia Cairo of East Providence; a brother, Raymond W. Allan L. Conklin, 62, of 20th Street, Vero Beach, Fla., a clubhouse manager and former Narragansett Brewery brewmaster, died November 23, 2001, at Indian River Memorial Hospital, Vero Beach, Fla. He was the husband of Doris M. (Conley) Conklin. Born in Providence, a son of Dorothy M. (Hennessey) Conklin of Cranston and the late Donald F. Conklin, he had lived in West Greenwich for 25 years, and later in Warwick for 3 years, before moving to Vero Beach a year ago. Mr. Conklin was the clubhouse manager for Dodger Town, the spring training facility of the Los Angeles Dodgers. He previously had been a brewmaster for the Narragansett Brewery, in Cranston, for 18 years, until the plant's closing. In the 1960s, he had been a professional boxer. He was a member of the Pawtuxet Athletic Club and the Coventry Lodge of Elks. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Allan L. Conklin Jr. and Michael E. Hall, both of Warwick; three daughters, Cheryl A. Fagnant of Pembroke, N.H., and Doris A. and Christy Lynn Conklin, both of Warwick; two sisters, Donna M. Kasola of Bovey, Minn., and Carol A. Keeney of Buzzards Bay, Mass.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The funeral was held from the Frank P. Scott A. Schemenski - 11/24/01
Scott A. Shemenski, 43, of Osceola Avenue, Warwick, a high school teacher and coach, and owner of the former Standard Spray Co., died November 24, 2001, at New England Medical Center, Boston. He was the husband of Susan (Wintermyer) Shemenski. Born in Martins Ferry Ohio, a son of James E. Shemenski of Johnston and Madelyn K. (Barker) Doenitz of Cape Coral, Fla., he was the stepson of Carol S. (Wilson) Shemenski of Johnston. He had lived in Norfolk, Va., for two years before moving to Warwick 12 years ago. He earned his bachelor of science in business administration at Campbell University, in North Carolina. Mr. Shemenski had worked for 12 years at Standard Spray Co. of Smithfield, where he was the owner and president from 1997 until 1999, when he closed the business because of illness. For the past two years, Mr. Shemenski had been a teacher of business and physiology, at Bishop Hendricken High School. He also had been the head coach, for the past two years, of the school's lacrosse team, which last year made it to the state finals. He was assistant coach of last year's freshman football team, which won the state championship. An Army veteran, he served with the 101st Airborne. An avid lacrosse player, Mr. Shemenski played in the Narragansett Adult Lacrosse Club. He was a cofounder of the Rhode Island Youth Lacrosse League, for which he had been coaching since 1989; was an organizer of the High School Interscholastic Lacrosse League in Rhode Island; had directed the Rhode Island Indoor Lacrosse League; and was treasurer of the Rhode Island Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse. He also had coached in the Warwick Youth Soccer League. Besides his wife and parents, he leaves a son, Jason W. Shemenski of Warwick; three brothers, Douglas J. Shemenski of Raeford, N.C., Brian J. Shemenski of North Canton, Ohio, and Aaron J. Shemenski of Johnston; and his paternal grandparents, Joseph and Mary (Bazar) Shemenski of Newcomerstown, Ohio. He was the grandson of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Klamer) Barker. Mrs. White was a seamstress for the Solomon Casket Co. for 15 years, retiring in 1973. She leaves a son, Gerald R. White of Warwick, and two sisters, Irene M. St. Laurent of Warwick and Bertha Loughman of Jamaica Plain, Mass. She was the sister of the late Albert Bouchard. The funeral and burial were private. Edward E. Petrarca, 77, of Palace Avenue, a retired machinist, died November 24, 2001, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Florence E. (Maria) Petrarca. Born in Warwick, a son of the late Ernest and Theresa (Kilbane) Petrarca, he was a lifelong resident of the city. He was a machinist for Electric Boat in Quonset for 11 years, retiring in 1987. He was formerly employed for 15 years by Leesona Corp. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific, and participated in the liberation of the Philippines, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Patricia A. Lally of West Warwick and Debra J. DeNoncour of Warwick; a son, Robert E. Petrarca of Warwick; two sisters, Tillie Greene of West Warwick and Leda Lord of Mystic, Conn.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Louise E. Dempsey, 94, a resident of Sunny View Nursing Home, Corona Street, a retired payroll clerk, died November 23, 2001, at the home. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Thomas and Bridget (Foley) Dempsey, she had lived in Providence most of her life before she moved to Cranston in 1984. She moved to Warwick in 1998. Miss Dempsey was employed as a payroll clerk for the Providence Water Supply Board for 40 years, retiring in the mid-1970s. She was previously employed by National Biscuit Co., Providence. She leaves two sisters, Agnes Daly of Providence and Alice Fox of Warwick, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John, Ann, Elizabeth and Margaret Dempsey, Catherine McCormack and Mary Regan. The funeral was held from Peter J. Grace M. (Beagan) Hazard, 72, of Brentwood Avenue, a retired telephone operator, died November 23, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of William Hazard Jr. Born on Aug. 17, 1929, in Providence, a daughter of the late John P. Sr. and Harriet L. (Kennedy) Beagan, she had lived in Warwick since 1955. Mrs. Hazard was a telephone operator for 8-1/2 years with the former New England Telephone Co. before retiring. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Karen R. Cooper of Pawtucket; three sons, William S. Hazard III and Thomas J. Hazard, both of Warwick, and Stephen R. Hazard of Northport, Fla.; a sister, Alice Bishop of Venice, Fla.; and two grandchildren. Raymond Champagne, 85, of Warwick Ave., a retired rigger, died November 23, 2001, at the home of his daughter, MaryAnn McKitchen of Glocester. He was the husband of Alyce (Abbott) Champagne. They had been married for 60 years. Born in the Albion section of Lincoln, a son of the late Edmond and Alda (Gagnon) Champagne, he had lived in Pawtucket before moving to Warwick in 1972. Mr. Champagne was a rigger for Draper Corp., later Rockwell International, in Hopedale, Mass., for 30 years, retiring in 1976. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant, and was a past commander of the AMVETS Post in Pawtucket. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Edward R. Champagne of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Raymond P. Champagne of Clinton, Ga., and John S. Champagne of Pawtucket; another daughter, Linda M. Ancona of Warwick; a sister, Elaine Duplessie in Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Eugene, Armand and Emile Champagne. Mr. Trager as a shipper at the Davol Co. for 29 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the South Providence and Providence Hebrew Free Loan Associations, the Warwick Social Seniors, the Chai Center, and the 911 Retiree Club. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Steven L. Tragar of Kokomo, Ind.; two daughters, Elaine Rogers of Providence and Brenda Weseluk of Cumberland; a brother, Morris Tragar of Sarasota, Fla.; a sister, Mildred Zatloff of Delray Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Sarah, Benjamin, Michael and Rebecca. Thaddeus "Ted" A. McDonough, 85, formerly of Centerville Road, a retired employee of Leesona Corp., died November 22, 2001, at West View Nursing Home, West Warwick. He was the husband of Elinor (Harvey) McDonough. They had been married for 59 years. Born in Providence, a son of the late John and Charlotte (Gorman) McDonough, he had resided on Buttonwoods Avenue for 35 years before moving to Centerville Road. He had been employed by Leesona for 38 years, retiring in 1979, and previously worked for the Brown & Sharpe Mfg. Co. for six years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 96th Chemical Company for three years. Besides his, wife, he leaves a son, John T. McDonough of Providence; two daughters, June Mello of West Warwick and Karen Simoneau-Corvese of Plainfield, Conn.; three brothers, Timothy and E. Raymond McDonough, both of Warwick, and George McDonough of North Providence; and six grandchildren. Michael A. Quattrini 82, of Yucatan Drive, a retired managing chef, died November 19, 2001, at home after an illness. He was the husband of Agnes (Imbruglia) Quattrini. Born in Providence, a son of the late Vincenzo and Carmella (Di Domenico) Quattrini, he had been a Warwick resident since 1950. He was a communicant of St. Timothy Church. Mr. Quattrini was employed as managing chef at the YMCA in Providence for 10 years, retiring in 1972. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in Asia and the Pacific, and participated in the Philippine liberation. Mr. Quattrini was secretary of the YMCA Credit Union, a member of the board of directors of the Warwick Credit Union, now the Coastway Credit Union, and a member of Who's Who Worldwide, and the East Greenwich Bay Power Squadron. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Ronald A., Frederick R. and Dennis M. Quattrini, and a daughter, Linda A. Marold, all of Warwick; two sisters, Vera Silvestri of Warwick and Jilda Nacci of Johnston; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Vincent M. Quattrini and brother of the late Helen Palumbo and Silvio and Paul Quattrini. Louis W. Brandfellner, 77, of Cedar Pond Drive, a retired vice president of sales, died November 20, 2001, at home. He was the husband of Virginia (Seek) Brandfellner. Born in Chicago, a son of the late William and Caroline (Obrach) Brandfellner, he had lived in Barrington and Stamford, Conn., before moving to Warwick. Mr. Brandfellner worked in magazine sales and distribution for over 40 years, retiring from Select Magazines Inc., in 1985. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 334th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. He was the only German-speaking member of his unit when it liberated the Dachau concentration camp. Mr. Brandfellner was a member of the Barrington Men's Club, the Good Guys, and the 20th Amored Division Association of Wichita, Kansas. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Terri L. McCarron of Scituate; two sons, Gary L. Brandfellner of Long Beach, Calif., and Scott W. Brandfellner of Norwalk, Conn.; and five grandchildren. Joyce (Sweeney) Shanley, 89, of West Shore Road, a retired teacher and librarian, died November 20, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late John P. Shanley. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Miles F. and Esther (McEndy) Sweeney, she had lived in Warwick since 1974, having moved from Cranston. She was a librarian at the Aldrich Junior High School for 15 years, retiring in 1979, and previously was a librarian at the Providence Public Library and the former Rhode Island State College, now the University of Rhode Island. Mrs. Shanley was a former president of Catholic Women's Club of Rhode Island and the St. Paul Women's Club, a longtime member of the Veridames at Providence College, and a member and supporter of the Ocean State Center for Independent Living. She was a graduate of New Rochelle College, Class of 1934, and completed a graduate degree in library science at Columbia University in 1935. She was a communicant of St. Gregory the Great Church. She leaves a daughter, Mary S. McDonald of East Greenwich; two sons, Miles M. Shanley of Providence and state Rep. John Patrick Shanley Jr. of South Kingstown; and two grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Daniel M. Sweeney. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Gregory the Great Church, Cowesett Road. Burial was private. Pasquale Cirelli, 83, of Irving Road, a retired truck mechanic and driver, and a former bus driver, died November 16, 2001, at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. Born in White Plains, N.Y., a son of the late Salvatore and Antoinetta (Valenti) Cirelli, he had lived in Warwick since 1950. Mr. Cirelli was a truck mechanic and driver for Taylor Bros. and Leaseway Transportation for 30 years. He had been a bus driver for Johnson & Wales University, retiring in 1981. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He leaves two daughters, Patricia Almstrom of Warwick and Barbara Schertell of Orange Park, Fla.; a son, David Cirelli of Warwick; two sisters, Jennie Tureagano of Warwick and Betty Messina of Cranston; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Alma W. Doley, 92, of Treybrun Drive, Williamsburg, Va., formerly of Warwick, a retired principal, died November 18, 2001, at York Convalescent Center, York County, Va. She was the wife of the late Peter Doley. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late James and Jenny (MacDonald) Bishop, she had lived in the Gaspee Plateau section of Warwick until 1982, when she moved to Belair, Fla. She moved to Williamsburg in 1996. Mrs. Daley was the principal of Elwood T. Wyman Elementary School, Warwick, from 1953 until her retirement in 1972, and had previously been a teacher at John Brown Francis Elementary School, Warwick. She was a graduate of the former Rhode Island College of Education and received her master's in education from Boston University. She leaves two sons, Peter D. Doley of Williamsburg and John A. Doley of Glendale, Ariz.; a sister, Jeanie Zawadski of Cranston; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Ernest Bishop, Clinton Bishop, Raymond Bishop, Mary Robitaille and Jessie Robitaille. Catherine F. Tierney, 70, of Mettatuxet Road, Narragansett, a retired office manager, died October 14, 2001. She was the wife of the late Robert D. Tierney. An office manager for many years, she retired in 1985. She was an honorary member of the Rhode Island Police Officers Emerald Society. He was the husband of the late Jeanette (Boylan) Covill. Born in Providence, a son of the late Frank and Zilla (Evison) Covill, he had lived in Warwick since 1946. Mr. Covill was a scale technician at the Fairbanks Morse division of Coltec Co. for 27 years, retiring in 1979. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving for more than 40 years, and retired as a colonel in 1974. During his career he was the recipient of many medals and citations, including the Bronze Star. Mr. Covill was aboard the President Coolidge when the ship ran aground in the New Hebrides Islands during World War II. He was credited with saving numerous lives. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the 43rd Infantry Division Veterans Association, and had served for 20 years in the Rhode Island National Guard and for 20 years in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the Gaspee Seniors. He leaves two sons, Jay Covill of Rensselaer, Ind., and Richard Covill of Seattle; two brothers, Charles Covill of East Providence and Herbert Covill of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; four sisters, Alice Mowry in Florida, Evelyn Whittermore of East Providence, Laura Reynolds of Cranston and Barbara McGrory of North Smithfield; and a granddaughter. He was the brother of the late Frank, George and William Covill, Dorothy Rainey, Ruth Conway and Florence Taylor. The funeral service was held in Stapleton-Barry-Holdredge Funeral Home, 684 Park Ave., Cranston. Burial was in Pawtuxet Memorial Park.

Laurie May (McAulay) Cambrola, 40, of Brushneck Avenue, a registered nurse, died October 15, 2001, in Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the fiancee of David R. Schneider of Warwick. Born in Providence, a daughter of William A. and Dr. Dianne L. (Marcotte) McAulay of South Kingstown, she lived in Cranston and South Kingstown before moving to Warwick 14 years ago. Mrs. Cambrola was a registered nurse in the patient acute-care unit at Kent County Memorial Hospital for 13 years. She had worked at the Kent Nursing Home for two years. She was a graduate of Cranston High School East, Class of 1979. She attended the University of Rhode Island and received her nursing degree from the Community College of Rhode Island, Class of 1986. She was a member of the American Society of Peri Anesthesia Nurses (ASPAN). She was a member of the National Coalition of Motorcyclists and the Scuba Diving group. Besides her parents and fiancee, she leaves two daughters, Sally May and Kelly Suzanne Cambrola, both of Warwick; a brother, William Scott McAulay of Newport; a sister, Lisa D. Desbiens of Hope; and a niece, Nicole Lisa Desbiens. A memorial motorcycle ride was held from Duke's Good Times, Warwick Avenue. A memorial service was held in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Women & Infants Hospital Breast Health Center, c/o Development Office, 101 Dudley St., Providence, RI 02905 will be appreciated.
