Dr. Lee Richard Silver - 9/14/01
Dr. Lee Richard Silver, 54, of Redondo Beach, Calif., formerly of Cranston, a board-certified toxicologist and occupational medicine specialist, died September 14, 2001, at home, after a short illness. Born in Providence, he was the son of Mollie Silver of Warwick and the late Benjamin Silver. A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, he later attended the URI Graduate School of Engineering, where he studied for a master's degree in biomedical engineering. Dr. Silver was a graduate of George Washington University Medical School. He interned and did his residency in San Diego, Calif., and had practiced family medicine in Huntington Beach, Calif. He became board-certified in occupational medicine and toxicology in 1998, and was practicing both specialties in Gardena, Calif. Dr. Silver had also done research at the National Cancer Institute. Besides his mother, he leaves a brother, Jack Silver of Redondo Beach; a sister, Lori Bomes of Narragansett; three nephews and a niece. Memorial services were held at Temple Menorah in Redondo Beach.

Robert A. McLaughlin - 10/14/01
Robert A. McLaughlin, 78, of Englewood Lane, a retired railway car inspector and racetrack money clerk, died October 14, 2001, at home, after an illness. He was the husband of Elizabeth C. (McGetrick) McLaughlin. Born in Providence, a son of the late Augustus H. and Eva P. (Turcotte) McLaughlin, he had lived in Warwick for 51 years. Mr. McLaughlin had been a car inspector for the Penn Central and Conrail Railroads for 41 years until retiring in 1982, and had also been a money clerk for many years at Lincoln Downs and the Narragansett Raceway. He was a member of the Transport Workers Union. An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, and participated in the D-Day landing. Mr. McLaughlin was a communicant of St. Peter Church. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Robert A. McLaughlin of Coventry and John K. McLaughlin of Milwaukee, Wis.; three daughters, Karen A. McLaughlin of Marblehead, Mass., Elizabeth A. McLaughlin of Nahant, Mass., and Sheila K. McLaughlin of Lynn, Mass.; a brother, Dr. John McLaughlin of Washington, D.C.; and five grandchildren, Christine A., Kathryn A., Denise K. and Ryan P. McLaughlin and Brenna C. Gloudemans. The funeral was held from the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Church, Fair Street. Burial, with military honors, was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Arthur C. Grant, 89, of Jefferson Street, a retired floor finisher, died October 12, 2001, at Harborside Healthcare Pawtuxet Village. He was the husband of the late M. Louise (Bailey) Grant. Born in Cranston, a son of the late Frederick L. and Mary Ann (McCarron) Grant, he had lived in Warwick most of his life. Mr. Grant was a self-employed floor finisher for 30 years, retiring in 1975. He leaves a son, Gerald A. Grant of Lubbock, Texas; a sister, Eleanor Waterman of Canton, Mass.; and two granddaughters; Tara Chamley and Heather Foley; and three great-grandsons, Zach Chamley, Eli Chamley and Patrick Foley. He was the brother of the late Margaret Grant. The funeral was held from Peter J. Barrett Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery, Pawtucket. David Glazer - 10/13/01
David Glazer, 86, of Dryden Boulevard, a retired investigator for the State of Rhode Island, died October 13, 2001, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Thelma V. (Wood) Glazer. Born in Providence, a son of the late Samuel and Ida (Roth) Glazer, he had lived in Warwick since 1954. Mr. Glazer worked as an investigator for the State of Rhode Island in the Department of Taxation, and later in the Department of Family Support, and had previously worked as a cab driver. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, a member of the William Shields American Legion Post 43, and a life member of the DAV. He was an honorary member of the ASPCA and the Knightsville Franklin Church. Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Barbara L. Arnold and Sheila Perreault, both of Warwick; a brother, Sydney Glazer of Providence; a sister, Harriet Landesberg of Cranston; and seven grandchildren, David C., Steven, Michael, Kenneth, David W., Richard and James; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Morris and Sadie Glazer and Betty Levy. The funeral service was held in Sugarman-Sinai Memorial Chapel, 458 Hope St., Providence. Abraham Rubinstein - 10/13/01
Abraham Rubinstein, 87, of Ethan Street, a retired taxi driver, died October 13, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jeanette Rubinstein. Born in Providence, a son of the late Harry and Bertha (Morer) Rubinstein, he had lived in Cranston before moving to Warwick in 1977. Mr. Rubinstein was an independent taxi driver until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the Touro Fraternal Association. He leaves two sisters, Marian Dressler of Cranston and Jean R. Greene of Wilmington, NC, and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service was held in Lincoln Park Cemetery, Post Road. Rose Ritacco, 96, of Beach St., Westerly, a retired employee of George C. Moore & Co., died October 13, 2001, at Westerly Hospital. She was the wife of the late Louis R. Ritacco. Born in Acri, Consenza, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Theresa (Urso) Gaccione. Mrs. Ritacco worked for the George C. Moore & Co. for 48 years before retiring at the age of 64. She leaves three sons, Louis J. Ritacco of Westerly, Joseph D. Ritacco of St. Paul, Minn., and Anthony A. Ritacco of East Greenwich; a daughter, Anna Cardinal of Gales Ferry, Conn.; a sister, Mary Algieri of Westerly; and 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Amy B. (Browning) Pertraca, 97, of Commonwealth Avenue, formerly of Toll Gate Road and Golden Beach, Fla., a former real estate company officer, died October 12, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Horace L. Petrarca. Born in Warwick, a daughter of the late Charles and Annie (Riley) Browning, she had been a lifelong resident of the city. She was the former vice president of Bald Hill Realty for 45 years. Mrs. Petrarca was a member of the Kent County Hospital Women's Auxiliary and a former member of Valley Country Club. She was an avid floral gardener. She leaves a son, Robert H. Petrarca of East Greenwich; a daughter, Anna L. Hagan of Warwick; and eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Edna Petrarca and sister of the late Evelyn Greene (Browning) Shogren. The funeral service was held in Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Route 5. Elizabeth M. Becky Tavarozzi, 58, of Church Avenue, an executive secretary and administrative assistant, died October 11, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Louis F. Tavarozzi. Born in Providence, a daughter of Marie E. (Savoie) Scallon of Warwick and the late Edward J. Scallon, she had been a lifelong resident of Warwick. Mrs. Tavarozzi was an executive secretary and administrative assistant at Gannon & Scott Inc., Cranston, for the last 12 years. She was an administrator for six years to the Howard Industrial Park Association, Cranston. She was previously employed as an executive secretary at McLeod Optical and as a medical assistant secretary at Elmwood Medical Lab. She was a member of the Warwick Figure Skaters Association and had served on its board of directors. She was a member of Volunteers of Warwick Schools and the Parent Teacher Association. She was a notary public. Mrs. Tavarozzi was a communicant of St. Kevin Church. Besides her husband and mother, she leaves three sons, Joseph A., Donald L. and William C. Tavarozzi, and a daughter, Maria A. Tavarozzi, all of Warwick; two brothers, Edward J. Scallon Jr. of Warwick and Eugene F. Scallon of West Greenwich; a sister, Maryann Pangborn Vigliani of Venice, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Renne Tavarozzi; and three grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Leo R. Scallon. Hollis J. Gates, 62, of Post Road, a retired captain in the Smithfield Police Department, died October 12, 2001, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Brenda M. (Booth) Gates. Born in Providence, a son of Agnes S. (Stevenson) Gates of Johnston and the late Hollis J. Gates, he had been a resident of Warwick for 19 years, formerly living in Smithfield and West Palm Beach, Fla. Mr. Gates was the former head coach for the Providence College racquetball teams. He was a member of FOP Lodge 17, Smithfield. He founded the Explorers program in the Smithfield Police Department. He served for four years in the Navy. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves two sons, Michael H. Gates of Cranston and Hollis J. Gates of Warwick; two brothers, Allan S. Gates of Lincoln and Robert J. Gates of Norman, Okla.; two sisters, Lois M. Dolan and Cheryl Jackson, both of Johnston; two daughters-in-law, Brenda and Katie Gates; and three grandchildren, Gianna, Michael and Tyler Gates. Bertha J. Lussier, 86, of Shamrock Drive, a retired school cafeteria employee, died October 12, 2001, at West Shore Health Center. She was the wife of the late Albert E. Lussier Sr. Born in Central Falls, a daughter of the late Joseph and Nora (Lucier) Juaire, she had been a Warwick resident since 1973. She was a member of St. Rose & Clement Parish. She was employed by the Warwick School Department for 10 years, retiring in 1980. She leaves two sons, Albert E. Lussier Jr. of Triangle, Va., and Robert E. Lussier of New Britain, Conn.; three daughters, Pauline A. Polizzotto of Belvidere, NJ, Jacqueline C. Lussier of Regina, Canada, and Lillian I. Snyder of Wind Gap, Pa.; three brothers, Edward Juaire of Cumberland, the Rev. Joseph Juaire of Hemmit, Calif., and Norman Juaire of Pawtucket; a sister, Florence Burrow of Providence; and 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was born in Providence and had lived most of her life in Warwick. She was a certified medical technician for 21 years and had worked at West Bay Manor for many years. She leaves two sons, William L. Walsh Jr. of Warwick and Michael C. Walsh of East Greenwich; a sister, Joyce Olivier Capozzoli of North Conway, NH; two daughters-in-law, Kelley I. Anthony W. Slocum, 89, of Church Avenue, a retired machinist, died October 3, 2001, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Mary (Kowalewski) Slocum and the late Irene (Hoyt) Slocum. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Louis and Evelyn (Orr) Slocum, he had lived in Warwick for 38 years. He was a machinist at the Brown & Sharpe Mfg. Co., North Kingstown, for many years, retiring in 1977. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 730th Field Artillery Unit in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the International Association of Machinists, a life member and past commander of the Capt. Walter J. Gatchell VFW Post 306, Pawtucket, and a member of the Bulge Busters of the 75th Division. He was also an associate member of VFW Post 272, Conimicut, and a life member of the Military Order of the Cooties, Pup Tent 1, Pawtucket. Mr. Slocum was an active member of the Oakland Beach Volunteer Fire Company 1. He leaves a son, Joseph A. Slocum of Warwick; three grandchildren and a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Carolyn Theresa Gagliardi, and brother of the late Dorothy Chandler, Mildred Leach and George Slocum. The funeral was private. Christine Ann Andreozzi, 32, of Burgoyne Drive, a secretary, died October 10, 2001, at home. Born in Warwick, a daughter of Geraldine A. (Mumford) Andreozzi, with whom she lived, and the late Louis V. Andreozzi, who died after being stricken at the wake of Christine, she was a lifelong resident of the city. Miss Andreozzi was a secretary for various agencies for 10 years. She was a graduate of Toll Gate High School, Class of 1987, Masson School of Business, Class of 1990, and was currently attending the Community College of Rhode Island. She was a member of Hillsgrove House and a communicant of St. Kevin Church. Besides her mother, she leaves two brothers, Matthew J. and Louis M. Andreozzi, both of Warwick, and a companion, Charles DeSomma of Warwick. Daisy C. Williams, 81, formerly of Kivert Street, a retired jewelry assembler, died March 19, 2001, at the Providence House Nursing Home, Southbridge, Mass. She was the wife of the late Wesley A. Williams, and the long-time companion of the late Joseph Corsi. Born in New Bedford, Mass., a daughter of the late John A. and Mary L. (Johnson) Valley, she had lived in Warwick for 25 years. Mrs. Williams was an assembler for Coro Mfg. Co. and Ronci Mfg. Co., both of Providence, for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Buttonwoods Senior Center. She leaves a son, Robert L. Williams of Westminster, Colo.; a stepson, Wesley S. Williams of Kissimmee, Fla.; five sisters, Jacqueline Dong of Brimfield, Mass., Geraldine Gauthier of Coventry, Mary McKinny in Maryland, Bernice Corbin of West Warwick, and Helen Boick of North Providence; and several grandchildren. She was the mother of the late George F. Valley and Wesley A. Williams Jr., the stepmother of the late Beverly E. Tyson-Cline, and the sister of the late Isabel Gibson and Lorraine Gauthier. Sister Mary Chrysostom Morrissey CSJ - 3/19/01
Sister Mary Chrysostom Morrissey CSJ, 93, of the Convent Mary Immaculate, Park Road, West Hartford, Conn., died March 19, 2001, at the Sisters of St. Joseph Health Care Center, Hartford. Born in New Haven, Conn., she was a daughter of the late Geoffrey and Sarah Agnes (Reynolds) Morrissey. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1926 and professed her perpetual vows on Aug. 23, 1932. She received her degree in English from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, and her master's degree in education/administration from the Catholic University, Washington, D.C. She spent many years teaching in various schools in Hartford, Bridgeport and Norwich, all in Connecticut, and retired from teaching in 1970 to pursue a second career. She joined the staff of St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, where she ministered in the office and became a patient advocate, retiring in 1993. She leaves a brother, the Rev. Phillip T. Morrissey, and a sister, Regina O'Hara, both of Warwick; and a cousin, the Rev. Msgr. David Walker of Hamden, Conn. She was the sister of the late Mary and Geoffrey Morrissey, and the Rev. Francis Morrissey. The funeral was held from the Convent Mary Immaculate, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph's Chapel. Burial was in the Sisters of St. Joseph Cemetery, West Hartford.

Sara A. (Kirchner) Simmons, 66, of Coburn St., formerly of Middletown, a flower shop owner, died March 20, 2001, at home. Born in the Bronx, N.Y., on May 8, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John and Ruth (Reid) Kirchner. An avid gardener, Mrs. Simmons was part owner, with her daughter, of the SOS Arrangements flower shop in Warwick. She leaves one daughter, Sandra L. Coelho of Warwick; one sister, Ruth O'Connor of Middletown; three nieces and one nephew. She was the sister of the late John Kirchner. Services were private.

Christopher Pearce Tanguay - 3/19/01
Chrisopher Pearce Tanguay, the infant son of Christopher and April D. (Silva) Tanguay, died March 19, 2001, at Hasbro Childrens Hospital, Providence. He was born Nov. 22, 2000, in Providence. Besides his parents, he leaves a sister, Violette E. Tanguay; a brother, Alexander J. DeFrance; a maternal grandmother, Marilyn McLaughlin; paternal grandparents, Norman R. and France L. N. Tanguay; and a great-grandmother, Lucrece Beauregard, all of Warwick; and a great-grandmother, Emma Tanguay, of Cumberland. He was the grandson of the late James A. Silva. Paul D. Stevenson - 3/20/01
Paul D. Stevenson, 73, a resident of West Shore Health Center, West Shore Road, a retired advertising executive for The Providence Journal, died March 20, 2001, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. Born in Newport, a son of the late Joseph P. and Margaret (Allsworth) Stevenson, he had lived in Warwick for more than 50 years. Mr. Stevenson was employed at The Journal for 22 years before retiring as the national advertising executive in 1970. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a longtime communicant of St. Peter Church. He leaves two sons, Mark Stevenson of Warwick and Michael Stevenson of Cranston; two daughters, Paula Clark and Maryanne Hunt, both of Warwick; two sisters, Margery Curry of Middletown and Mary Feeney of Clearwater, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Matthew Clark, Meghan Clark and Caleigh Stevenson. He was the brother of the late Joseph P. Stevenson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Church, Fair Street. Burial will be private.

Doris M. Foshay-Vogel, 78, of Longmeadow Avenue, a retired machine operator, died March 15, 2001, in Miriam Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late James F. Vogel. Born in Suffern, N.Y., a daughter of the late Nial and Georgiana (Bennett) Brown, she had lived in Ellenville, N.Y., for many years before moving to Warwick. Mrs. Foshay-Vogel had worked for American Cynamid, in Pearl River, N.Y., for 25 years before retiring in 1973 as the head machine operator. She was a member of Buttonwoods Senior Center. She leaves two sons, Stanley R. Foshay Jr. of Pearl River, and Carlton M. Foshay of Grafton Wold, Germany; two daughters, Georgia May Mitchell of Warwick and Sandra Jean Smith of Solsberry, Ind.; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Theodore R. Hoffman Sr. - 3/18/01
Theodore R. Hoffman Sr., 93, of Hillsborough, N.C., and formerly of Warwick, a retired Warwick teacher, died March 18, 2001, at Britthaven of Chapel Hill Nursing Home, Chapel Hill, N.C. He was the husband of Barbara (Anderson) Hoffman; they were married for 61 years. Born in Harrison, NJ, a son of the late William and Mabel (Sweck) Hoffman, he had lived in Warwick for most of his life before moving to North Carolina. Mr. Hoffman had taught in the Warwick public school system for 30 years before retiring at Aldrich Junior High School, the former Lockwood High School and Veterans Memorial High School. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Karen Bergner in North Carolina; two sons, Theodore Hoffman in North Carolina and Frank J. Hoffman of Warwick; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Robert W. Hoffman. The funeral and burial were private.

Eleanor K. Seddon, 67, of Cady Avenue, a microfilmer, died March 19, 2001, at home. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John F. and Catherine (Sharkey) Kenny, she was a lifelong Warwick resident. Mrs. Seddon was employed as a microfilmer at AMS Imaging for the last 14 years. She was a graduate of Gorton High School. She is survived by four sons, Christopher B., Mark S., Sean W. and Gary A. Seddon, all of Warwick; two daughters, Sharon Kathleen of Wakefield, Mass., and Therese M. Beauregard of Warwick; a brother, Bernard A. Kenny of Warwick; a sister, Marilyn R. Sullivan of Westerly; and 10 grandchildren. She was a sister of the late John, Gerald and Katherine Kenny. A Requiem Holy Eucharist was celebrated in St. Barnabas Church, 3257 Post Road. Mary A. Creath, 93, of Yellowstone Avenue, a retired accountant, died March 17, 2001, in Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late George E. Creath. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Higgins) Nelson, she had lived in Johnston before moving to Warwick last year. She was a senior accountant for the Rhode Island Department of Human Services for 32 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of AFSCME Local 1350. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Dominic, Providence College. She leaves two nieces, Virginia M. Waddington of Warwick and Jane Ladas in Oregon, and a nephew, Donald Nelson in New Jersey. She was the sister of the late Sister Mary Constance, OP, and Henry, Raymond, William, Joseph and Thomas Nelson. The funeral was held from Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd., with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial was in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, donations to Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, 50 Maude St., Providence, RI 02908 would be appreciated.
