Douglas D. O'Neill - 3/17/01
Douglas D. O'Neil, 47, of Columbia Avenue, a disabled Vietnam veteran, died March 17, 2001, at New England Medical Center, Boston. He was the husband of Deborah S. (Lapolla) O'Neil. Born in Johnson City, N.Y., a son of Grace M. (Grimes) O'Neil of Warwick and the late Ellsworth W. O'Neil, he had lived in Warwick for 22 years, previously living in Plattsburg, N.Y. He served in the Marine Corps Special Forces during the Vietnam War and was an expert marksman. He was a member of the VFW. He served as a co-counselor at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Providence. He was a graduate of Pilgrim High School, Class of 1971, and had attended the Community College of Rhode Island. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves a son, Travis J. O'Neil of Peru, N.Y.; a stepson, Christopher J. Person, a stepdaughter, Kristen E. Person, and a sister, Patricia Gregson, all of Warwick; two stepbrothers, William O'Neil of Hacienda Heights, Calif., and John O'Neil of Kenmore, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Michael O'Neil. The funeral service was held in Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave. Burial with military honors was in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Helen L. Marshall - 3/17/01
Helen L. Marshall, 79, of Algonquin Drive, died March 17, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of C. Russell Marshall. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Alfred H. and Mabel B. (Rose) Liddle, she had lived in Warwick for 50 years. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Church of the Transfiguration, Cranston, and the Episcopal Church Women. Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Nancy M. MacDonald of Charlestown; a son, Robert W. Marshall of Jupiter, Fla.; and four granddaughters. She was the sister of the late Alfred H. Liddle Jr. and Blanche Evers. The funeral service was held in Peter J. Barrett Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Carol L. Cote - 3/16/01
Carol L. Cote, 53, of Sandro Drive, a former bookkeeper, died March 16, 2001, at Harbourside Health Care Greenwood. She was the wife of Michael C. Cote. Born in Providence, the daughter of Joseph H. and Dorothy E. (Baker) Fry of North Kingstown, she had lived in Warwick for 18 years. She was a self-employed bookkeeper for 12 years. She had previously worked at the Browne & Sharpe Mfg. Co. for 12 years and at Leesona Corp. for five years. She was a graduate of Coventry High School, Class of 1965. Besides her husband and parents, she leaves two brothers, Roger and Richard Fry, both of Warwick. The funeral and burial were private.
Leon F. DesRoches - 3/16/01
Leon F. DesRoches, 81, of Namquid Drive, a retired photographer and lithographer, died March 16, 2001, at Roger Williams Medical Center, of Providence. He was the husband of the late Jean (Macaulay) DesRoches, and the companion of Martha V. Anderson of Warwick. Born in Providence, a son of the late Arsene and Charlotte (Leonard) DesRoches, he had lived in Warwick from 1954 until he moved to Torrance, Calif., in 1982, and he returned to Warwick in 1989. He was a lithographer for New England Twine for 10 years before retiring in 1982. He had previously owned School House Photo Service for many years, and worked as a professional photographer. He had also worked at the former Mason Ware as a photographer and lithographer. He was a member of Greenwood Community Church Presbyterian. He was an avid reader. Besides his companion, he leaves two daughters, Evelyn E. DesRoches of Johnston and Karen S.D. Grande of Warwick; and two grandchildren, Alexandra and Nicholas Grande. He was the father of the late Leon F. DesRoches Jr., and brother of the late Lloyd C. DesRoches. The funeral service was held in Carpenter-Jenks Quaker Lane Chapel, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick. Burial was in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston. Rosemary Perry - 3/16/01
Rosemary Perry, 79, of Fisher Avenue, died March 16, 2001, in Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alfred J. Perry. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Robert and Louie (Godbee) Sherburne, she had lived in Warwick for almost 50 years, and was a summer resident of Beach Meadows, Matunuck, for 50 years. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She leaves a son, Alfred J. Perry Jr. of Smithfield; two daughters, Judith A. DiLorenzo of Plattsburg, Mo., and Karen L. Lonardo of Warwick; a brother, Robert Sherburne, and a sister, Dorothy Bannon, both of Warwick; and four grandchildren. The funeral was held from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Jefferson Boulevard. Rita A. Furbay - 3/15/01
Rita A. Furbay, 66, of Grassy Point Drive, Lake Mary, Fla., a homemaker, formerly of Warwick, died March 15, 2001, at South Seminole Hospital, Longwood, Fla. She was the wife of Harlan W. Furbay. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (St. Angelo) Fisher, she had lived in Warwick before moving to Florida in 1977. Mrs. Furbay graduated from Aldrich High School in 1952 and attended Daytona Beach Community College, where she received a certificate in aviation. She was a member of Markum Woods Presbyterian Church, Lake Mary. Besides her husband, she leaves four sons, Raymond E. Kenahan of Deltona, Fla., Stephen P. Kenahan of Warwick, Tommy B. Kenahan of Lake Helen, Fla., and Randy A. Furbay of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a daughter, Sherri Ward of Spring, Texas. A funeral service was held in Deltona Presbyterian Church. Entombment was in Deltona Memorial Gardens, Orange City, Fla.

Gilbert Jackman, 63, of Warwick Avenue, a retired jewelry worker, died March 13, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. Born in Warwick, a son of the late Howard and Rose (Baron) Jackman, he had resided in Warwick for 12 years, previously living in Providence. Mr. Jackman had been employed for several jewelry companies until his retirement. He leaves two brothers, Richard and Everett Jackman, both of Cranston. The funeral was private.
Anthony G. Fransosi - 3/15/01
Anthony G. Fransosi, 53, of Longmeadow Avenue, a self-employed building contractor, died March 15, 2001, at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the fianc of Ginny Xiarhos. Born in Providence, a son of Antonetta (DePaola) Fransosi of Cranston and the late George E. Fransosi, he had resided in Warwick for 10 years. He was a communicant of St. Mark Church, Cranston. He was the owner-operator of the former AFCO Construction Co. in Cranston. Mr. Fransosi was a member of the VFW Post 272 and the Cranston Knights of Columbus. The funeral was held from Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mark Church, Garden City, Cranston. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Clifford A. Straight Jr. - 3/14/01
Clifford A. Straight Jr., 68, of Smith Street, a retired insurance supervisor, died March 14, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy Ann (Freden) Straight. Born on Feb. 24, 1933, in Providence, a son of the late Clifford A. Straight Sr. and Eva A. (Gaddis) Straight, he had lived in Warwick for 36 years. Mr. Straight was an insurance supervisor for Amica Mutual Insurance Co. for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Doric Lodge 38, AF&AM, Cranston, and served on the board. He was the Dad of East Greenwich Assembly, Rainbow for Girls. Mr. Straight was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, sang in the choir, and was a lay reader and member of the church bowling league. He was also an avid golfer. Besides his wife, he leaves four daughters, Linda S. Menzies of Saunderstown, Amy Lynn Laboissonniere of North Attleboro, Melissa Ann Barboza of Somerset and Donna Beth Straight of Cranston; and three grandsons, Alexander, David and Ian Menzies. The funeral was held from Carpenter-Jenks Quaker Lane Chapel, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick, with a funeral service in St. Barnabas Church, Post Road, Apponaug. Burial was in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, gifts to the Church Memorial Fund will be appreciated.
