Dr. James P. Gill - 5/23/02
Dr. James P. Gill, 80, of Carriage Drive, a retired dentist, died May 23, 2002, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Marie E. (Hutchins) Gill. Born in Providence, a son of the late John J. and Kathleen (Conlan) Gill, he had lived in Warwick for 70 years. Dr. Gill maintained a dental office on Warwick Avenue for 30 years until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Rhode Island Dental Association and the Kent County District Dental Association. He was also a member of the Kent County YMCA and a communicant of St. Gregory the Great Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Dr. Gill was a graduate of Providence College and the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry. Besides his wife, he leaves four sons, Richard J. Gill of Cambridge, Mass., Matthew P. Gill of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Thomas P. Gill of Livermore, Calif., and Steven J. Gill of Annapolis, Md., and four grandchildren. He was the brother of the late John Gill and Mary Davies. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Gregory The Great Church, 360 Cowesett Rd. Burial was in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
Henry J. Fortin - 5/23/02
Henry J. Fortin, 60, of West Bay Residential Center, Church Avenue, died May 23, 2002, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph A. and Mary I. (Pimental) Fortin, he had lived in Providence for many years before moving to Warwick 18 years ago. He was an avid boating enthusiast, gardener and music lover. He leaves a brother, Albert J. Fortin of East Providence; a sister, Gertrude C. Connors of Providence; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Muriel M. Harrigan. The funeral was held from Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Paul Church, 1 St. Paul Place, Cranston. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.

Mary E. (Rossi) Campbell, of Harborside Healthcare Greenwood House, Main Street, formerly of Glendale Avenue, a retired warehouse supervisor, died May 21, 2002, at the care facility. She was the wife of the late John L. Campbell. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John B. and Josephine (Carr) Ross, she had lived in Providence and Cranston before moving to Warwick in 1978. Mrs. Campbell was a supervisor at the A&P Bakery Warehouse, Cranston, for 27 years, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the A&P Bakery & Confectionery Union and the Sacred Heart Association. She leaves a daughter, Ann Marie Giuffre, and a son, John J. Campbell, both of Warwick; a daughter-in-law, Judith R. Campbell; four grandchildren, Michele A. Torkomian, John K. and Andrea J. Campbell and Jacqueline M. Giuffre; and two great-grandchildren, Joseph T. and Talia A. Torkomian. She was the mother of the late Robert, F. Campbell, sister of the late Joseph, John, Raymond, Edward and Blanche Ross and Josephine O'Gara, and mother-in-law of the late Augustino V. Giuffre. Constance R. Cullen, 76, formerly of Montana Avenue, a former supervisor, died June 13, 2001, at Avalon Nursing Home. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Leo M. Martin and Marguerite D. (Shannon) Cullen, she had lived in Warwick since 1928. She retired in 1982 as a supervisor at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station after 15 years. She was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church. She leaves two sisters, Mildred E. Brown and Dorothy V. Cullen, both of Warwick; two nieces, Nancy Brown Janus, Kathe Colavito Roe; a great-nephew, Dr. Christopher J. Savoie and his son. She was a sister of the late Hope Colavito and aunt of the late Crystal Brown Savoie. The funeral was held from Urquhart-Murphy Funeral Home, 800 Greenwich Ave., Route 5, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Jefferson Boulevard. George Joseph Landrie - 6/7/01
George Joseph Landrie, 73, died June 7, 2001, in a Las Vegas hospital. He was born Dec. 2, 1927, in Providence. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was a retired television store owner/operator, retired from the Rhode Island Sheriff's Department, a member of Pawtuxet Valley Athletic Club and the Rhode Island Yacht Club, and a 19-year resident of Las Vegas. He is survived by his wife, Medora Landrie of Las Vegas; three daughters, Linda Shoemaker of Las Vegas, Carol Almeida and Marianne Almeida, and a son, George Jr., all of Warwick; four stepdaughters, Jeanette Pepper of Providence, Deborah LaMake of Lincoln, Donna Thurber and Medora Rego, both of Warwick; four stepsons, Michael Clark of Johnston, William Clark of Providence, Harold Clark of Warwick and Mark Clark of Acushnet, Mass.; a sister, Olive Rezendes of Cranston; 30 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Memorial services were held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Graveside services followed at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Palm Mortuary-Downtown handled arrangements.
Martha L. Knott - 6/5/01
Martha L. Knott, 94, of Greenwich Avenue, died June 5, 2001, in Roger Williams Medical Center. Providence. She was the wife of the late Lawrence E. Knott. Born in LeGrand, Iowa, a daughter of the late Harry and Emma (Funke) Wolken, she had lived in Titusville, Fla., before moving to Warwick nine years ago. She had also lived in California. She leaves a son, Vernon W. Knott of North Kingstown; two brothers, Wallace Wolken of Pennorama, Iowa, and Lavern Wolken of Marshalltown, Iowa; four sisters, Gladys Zink of Haverhill, Iowa, Geraldine Hartwid of State Center, Iowa, Lois Escolani of Lapoente, Calif., and Mable Stalzer of Marshalltown, Iowa; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Florence Harmon. The funeral and burial were held in Dillon, Iowa. A memorial service will be held June 20 at 11 a.m. in St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Greenwich Avenue.

Hilda Rocchio, 87, of Liverpool Street, died June 11, 2001, in Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Roger H.P. Rocchio. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Frank and Carmela (Vilella) Gabriele, she had lived in Warwick for 50 years. She was a member of St. Rose & Clement Parish, Buttonwoods Senior Center, and St. Barnabas Senior Card Club. She leaves a daughter, Lorraine E. Potter of Warwick; a sister, Claire Villanova of Chepachet; a granddaughter, Laurie D. Wirth of Warwick; and two great-grandchildren, Lynn N. and Ryan P. Wirth. She was the grandmother of the late Raymond P. Potter, and the sister of the late Victor, Fred, Godfrey and Edmund Gabriel and Evelyn D Aguanno. Ursula B. Clapp, 87, of Church Avenue, a retired librarian, died June 11, 2001, in Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Elmer F. Clapp. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Thomas and Phoebe (Robidoux) Dooley, she had lived in Warwick since 1939. Mrs. Clapp was a librarian at the Apponaug Free Library for 20 years, retiring in 1972. She leaves a daughter, Nancy E. Keegan of Pawcatuck, Conn.; a brother, Edward Dooley of Cranston; a sister, Elizabeth Ricci of Warwick; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Thomas Dooley. The funeral and burial were private.

Carol A. Scott, 65, a resident of Harborside Healthcare Greenwood, formerly of Rock Avenue, a retired assembler, died June 11, 2001, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Walter H. and Margaret J. (McDuff) Scott, she was a lifelong Warwick resident and a former summer resident of the Ginny-B Campground in Foster. Miss Scott was an assembler for Cable Electric in Providence for several years before retiring in 1975. She is survived by a brother, Walter T. Scott of Warwick, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Elsie M. Cook. The funeral service was held in the Peter J. Rita C. (Marsocci) Brzoza, 79, of Cowesett Road, a retired payroll clerk, died June 11, 2001, in Brookside Villa, Coventry. She was the wife of Frank J. Brzoza Sr. Born in West Warwick on July 17, 1921, a daughter of the late Alfred I. and Sylvia M. (Inman) Marsocci, she had lived in West Warwick for 40 years before moving to Warwick several years ago. Mrs. Brzoza had worked as a payroll clerk at the former Outlet Distribution Center in Coventry for five years before retiring in 1984. She had also been a payroll clerk at the Arkwright Co. in Coventry for 10 years. Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Bruce and Frank Brzoza Jr., both of Coventry; two daughters, Barbara Hefner of Sellersville, Pa., and Margaret Farrell of Westwood, N.J.; a sister; Cecelia Urban of West Warwick; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Thomas Marsocci, Margaret Kowalik and Mary Patys. The funeral was held from the R. Grace J. Bubar, 67, of Royland Road, a retired bookkeeper, died June 10, 2001, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Wallace D. Bubar. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John A. Corning and the late Josephine S. (Jordan) Simmons, she had lived in Warwick for 35 years. Mrs. Bubar had been a bookkeeper for Weiss Office Products in Providence for 10 years before retiring seven years ago. She is survived by two daughters, Lori L. Ford of Warwick and Lisa M. Beati of North Kingstown; a son, Donald M. Bubar of Richmond; two sisters, Gloria Farrally and Gail Moraga, both of Providence; three brothers, Robert Ricci and Raymond and James Simmons, all of Warwick; and seven grandchildren. She was a stepdaughter of the late Eugene S. Simmons, and a sister of the late Joseph Simmons and Joanne D Arezzo. The funeral was held from the Peter J. Frederick J. Donnelly, 81, of Tennessee Avenue, a retired machine repairman, died June 10, 2001, in Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of the late Doris W. (Mottram) Donnelly. Born in Providence, the son of the late Michael A. and Jeanette (Eagleson) Donnelly, he had lived in Warwick for 45 years. Mr. Donnelly had been a machine repairman for the former Colonial Laundry for 40 years, until retiring in 1985. He leaves several nieces and nephews. The funeral and burial were private. Ralph N. Wheelock, 80, of Anderson Avenue, a retired manufacturers representative, died June 10, 2001, in Roger Williams Medical Center. He was the husband of Carolyn M. (McClellan) Wheelock. Born in Providence on Oct. 11, 1920, a son of the late Ralph H. and Louise H. (Grant) Wheelock, he had lived in Cranston and Providence before moving to Warwick in 1949. He attended Bryant College. Mr. Wheelock had worked as an independent representative for various tool manufacturers for 19 years, until retiring in 1992. He had been a salesman at Welsh Mfg. Co. of Providence for 35 years. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. Mr. Wheelock was a member of the Warwick Country Club and the Rhode Island Philatelic Society. He was a 50-year member of Harmony Lodge No. 9, F&AM. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, and had been active in scouting with Boy Scout Troop 9, Cranston. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Gary R. Wheelock of Jamestown; a brother, Robert E. Wheelock of Edina, Minn.; a granddaughter, Bethany L. Wheelock; a great-grandson, Joseph R. Wheelock; and several nieces and nephews. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Doyle) Kreutzberg, she had lived in Texas before moving to Providence in 1995. Mrs. Fleischer had been a professional secretary, working for school, departments in New York and Texas, before she retired. She leaves two sons, Charles H. Fleischer of Potomac, Md., and Richard G. She was a member of the Rhode Island Federation for the Blind, and St. Mary Senior Citizens, North Providence. She had served as a volunteer at the Diocese of Providence Center. She leaves two sons, David L. Bartholomew of Providence and Michael R. Bartholomew of Warwick; two daughters, Gloria Bartholomew in England and Helen Bartholomew in Japan; a brother, Raymond Russo of Warwick; four sisters, Margaret Clouse of Providence, Concetta DiFiore of Johnston, Angelina Dorio of Smithfield and Virginia LaParti of South Barrie, Mass.; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late David Rickett, and sister of the late Nicholas Russo. The funeral service was held in Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Chapel, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. William C. Liebrich Jr., 77, of Julian Road, a retired toolmaker, died June 8, 2001, at Harborside Healthcare-Greenwood House, Warwick. He was the husband of Helen E. (Spencer) Liebrich. Born in Providence, the son of the late William C. Liebrich, Sr. and Edith P. (Moore) Liebrich he had lived in Warwick for 50 years. Mr. Liebrich was a toolmaker at Lee's Mfg. Co., North Smithfield, for more than 20 years, retiring in 1993. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a member of William Shields Jr. American Legion Post 43. He had been a manager with the Warwick National Little League for several years. Besides his wife, he leaves three daughters, Judith A. Lopez, Joan H. Bradley and Patti S. Webb, and a son, William A. Liebrich, all of Warwick, 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral was held in Peter J. Dr. Bipin Chandra P. Pancholi, 54, of Post Rd., a veterinarian, died June 9, 2001, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Kirti B. (Dave) Pancholi. Born in Zulasan, Guljarat, India, a son of the late Purushottamdas N. and Kanmalaben P. (Jani) Pancholi, he came to this country in 1973 settling in Jersey City, N.J., and had lived in North Kingstown before moving to Warwick in 1982. Mr. Pancholi was owner and operator of East Greenwich Animal Hospital since 1982. He was a graduate of Anand Veterinary School, Guljarat, and an accredited doctor of the American Animal Hospital Association. He was a member and past president of the Rotary Club. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Dr. Yogesh B. Pancholi of Warwick and Rajesh B. Pancholi of Leominster, Mass.; a daughter, Jayshree B. Pancholi of New York City; two brothers, Kiritkumar P. Pancholi of Ahmedabad, India, and Balvant P. Pancholi on Long Island, N.Y.; and two sisters, Lilaben V. Dave of Ahmedabad and Minaxiben P. Jani of Baroda, India. He was the brother of the late Shailesh P. Pancholi and Champaben K. Trivedi. A memorial service was held in Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Shirley A. Slagle, 72, of Melbourne Road, a former employee of T.F. Green Airport, died June 9, 2001, in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, after an illness. She was the former wife of Frederick A Slagle of Madison, Ohio, and Costa Rica. Born in Cranston, a daughter of the late Louis and Doris (Hill) Archer, she had lived in Madison before moving to Warwick 10 years ago. She was employed at Amica Insurance Co., Holiday Inn hotels, and T.F. Green Airport. She was a member of All Saints Church, Providence, and the Chardon (Ohio) Lake Golf Club. Besides her former husband, she leaves four sons, F. Joseph Slagle and Louis Kit Slagle, both of Madison, Shawn E. Slagle of Warwick and Dana L. Slagle of Pembroke Pines, Fla., and eight grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Beverly J. Archer. Madeline A. McDonald, 85, of Squantum Drive, a retired clerk, died June 10, 2001, at Tockwotten Home, Providence. She was the wife of the late Antonio Bianchini. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Herman and Elizabeth (Cole) Folgo, she had lived in Providence most of her life before moving to Warwick. She was a clerk for the Senior Aide Program for the City of Providence for 22 years, retiring in 1995, and was honored on June 4, 1982, by Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. with Madeline McDonald Recognition Day for her work with the program. She was the past president of the Rhode Island Council of Senior Citizens, and board member of the National Council of Senior Citizens. She leaves a brother, Leo J. Folgo of Cranston; and two nieces, Barbara E. Rossi of Warwick and Beverly A. Guay of East Providence. She was the sister of the late Raymond L., Edward C. and Charles Folgo, Marguerite Thompson, Louisa C. McManus and Mildred M. O'Connell. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Peter Church, Fair Street. Burial was in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Edo G. Venditti, 89, of Beatrice Avenue, retired fiscal manager for the state and a former Army captain, died June 8, 2001, at Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Catherine T. (Monti) Venditti. Born in Providence, a son of the late Nicola and Morentina (Infante) Venditti, he had lived on Federal Hill in Providence before moving to Warwick in 1956. Mr. Venditti was employed as a fiscal management officer at the MHRH for the State of Rhode Island for 20 years, retiring in 1981. An Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War, he served for over 20 years, retiring as a captain in 1955. He served as an infantry platoon commander in Salerno, Italy, during World War II, and later became a liaison between U.S. troops and the Italian government. He was a graduate of Bryant College, Class of 1958, receiving a bachelor's degree in business administration. A volunteer for the Department of Elderly Affairs, he was director of aquatic exercises at McDermott pool for nine years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Retired Officers Association, and a communicant of St. Benedict Church. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Edward G. Venditti of Vienna, Va.; three daughters, Mary Elizabeth Rapoport of Roanoke, Va., Elaine C. Hazzard of Warwick and Barbara R. Cole of Coventry; and eight grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Pasquale and Giovanna Venditti. The funeral was held from Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Benedict Church, Beach Avenue.
