Born in Somerville, Mass., a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hunt, she had lived in East Greenwich before moving to Warwick three years ago. She leaves a son, Robert Rigby of Warwick; a daughter, Audrey Mae Merriman of Escondido, Calif; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. Armando E. Zeppa - 6/10/01
Armando E. Zeppa, 91, of Elm Street, a retired foreman, waiter and maitre d , died June 10, 2001, at South County Hospital, Wakefield. He was the husband of Lucy (Ficoturo) Zeppa, and the late Elvira (Coranci) Zeppa. Born in Providence, a son of the late Giuseppe and Luigia (Rossi) Zeppa, he had lived in Warwick for 40 years. He was a foreman at the former Cooper Kenworthy, Pawtucket, for 18 years, and later worked as a waiter at the Biltmore hotel, and as a maitre d at the former Kingston Inn, North Kingstown. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1738 C ranston. Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Elaine Steere of Greenville; two sisters, Linda DiSanto and Libby Dinutri, both of Johnston; and eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Joseph Zeppa and Dolores Connell, and brother of the late Nancy Zawislak, Angie Tarvis and Clara Loffler. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Philip Church, Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial was in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
Jean Marie (Denkee) Scott - 6/7/01
The funeral for Jean Marie (Denkee) Scott, 76, of Anchorage Road, who died June 7, 2001, at home from injuries suffered in an attack allegedly by her husband, will be held tomorrow at 9 a.m. from Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 142 Centerville Rd., with a service at 10 in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 358 Warwick Neck Ave. She was the wife of Kenneth E. Scott. Born in Allentown, Pa., a daughter of the late George and Marie (Yentsch) Demkee, she had lived in Warwick for 43 years. Mrs. Scott was a past treasurer for Episcopal Church Women Diocese of Rhode Island, and member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church Women and Altar Guild. She had been a volunteer for a South Providence preschool Program. Besides her husband she leaves a daughter, Susan M.S. Hayes, and a granddaughter, Michelle M. Hayes, both of Warwick; and a sister, Margaret Stafford of Clearwater, Fla. Burial was in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.

Armand E. D Andrea, 80, of Pines Retirement Community, West Brown Rd., Mesa, Ariz., a former freight-rate specialist, died May 7, 2001, at Park Regency Health Care Center, Chandler, Ariz. He was the husband of the late Phyllis (Salzillo) D Andrea. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Armand and C. Irene (Perigallo) D Andrea Sr. He was employed as a freight-rate specialist for the federal government in Davisville for many years. He was also employed by the Arizona Highway Patrol. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in England, France, Belgium and Germany, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the American Legion, the United States Civil Service Commission, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Sky Harbor Chapter of the Air Force Association. He was an avid reader and a great lover of American history, big-band music, aviation and travel. He enjoyed stamp collecting and meteorology. He leaves a son, Steven M. D Andrea of Hollis, N.H.; two daughters, Donna J. Shea-Tendick of East Temple, Ariz., and Oklahoma, and Joan Shears of Flagstaff, Ariz.; three brothers, Norman D Andrea of Warwick, Dr. Rudolph D Andrea of Midwest City, Okla., and Dr. Eugene D Andrea of Warwick; and seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Matthew Church, Elmwood Avenue, Cranston. Entombment with military honors was in Our Risen Christ Garden Mausoleum, St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
Earl J. Maciel - 6/9/01
Earl J. Maciel, 85, of Liverpool Street, a retired upholsterer, and a veteran who was awarded seven Bronze Stars, died June 9, 2001, in Kent County Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Helen C. (Medeiros) Maciel. They were married for 64 years. Born in Providence, a son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Newman) Maciel, he had lived in East Providence before moving to Warwick in 1948. He was the owner and operator of the Earl Maciel Upholstery Co., Providence, retiring in 1993 after 45 years in business. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving in Europe, and was awarded seven Bronze Stars. He later served in the National Guard for 35 years, retiring as a chief warrant officer. He was a member of the 34th Bomb Group Association, and volunteered at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Providence, for many years. He was a member of SS. Rose and Clement Parish, serving as a parish lector for many years. Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Robert A. Maciel of Valparaiso, Ind.; a daughter, Janice C. Parise of Westboro, Mass.; a sister, Kathleen Surrette of North Providence; and six grandchildren. He was the father of the late Earl J. Maciel Jr., and brother of the late Richard Maciel. Michael Nazzaro, 91, of Drum Rock Avenue, a retired State House doorkeeper, died June 8, 2001, at Greenwood Harbourside Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Ellen F. (Fawcett) Nazzaro. Born in Boston, a son of the late John and Rossina (D Algenio) Nazzaro, he had lived on Sisson Street, Providence, for many years before moving to Warwick five years ago. He was a doorkeeper for the House of Representatives at the Rhode Island State House for 22 years, retiring in 1997. He was the oldest doorkeeper at the State House. He was a meat cutter for the former Star Market in Olneyville for 25 years, retiring in 1975. He was a member of the Meatcutters Local 328 for many years. Mr. Nazzaro had been a communicant of and usher at St. Augustine Church, Providence, for several years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Dillon Council. He leaves a daughter, Carol J. Degidio of Warwick; a brother, William Nazzaro of Glendale, Ariz.; four sisters, Elvira Tarantino of Totowa, NJ, and Katherine Scaranduzzio, Josephine Christy and Eleanor Lorenz, all of Johnston; and five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson. He was the brother of the late James Nazzaro and Christine Evangelista. The funeral was held from Russell J. Hugh A. Bourbon, 89, of Harmony Court, a hub and die cutter, died June 9, 2001, at Harbourside Health, Pawtuxet. He was the husband of Germaine M. (Leclerc) Bourbon. They were married for 59 years. Born in Providence, a son of the late Arthur A. and Katherine (McManus) Bourbon, he had lived in Warwick for many years. He was a hub and die cutter for the former E.A. Adams Jewelry Mfg. Co. for 40 years, retiring in 1980. He was an Amy veteran of World War II, serving with the 354th Fighter Group. Mr. Bourbon was a communicant of St. Timothy Church. He graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1933. Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Hugh A. Bourbon Jr. of Warwick and Andrew W. Bourbon of Brewster, Mass.; two daughters, Marieanne B. Willis of Cranston and Denise A. Wynne of Chepachet; and six grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Arthur, Katherine, Andrew, Alfred and James Bourbon, and Adeline Guenet. Doris E. Thibodeau, 76, of Duxbury Court, Wethersfield Commons, and North Fort Myers, Fla., a retired claims interviewer, died June 6, 2001, at Miriam Hospital. She was the wife of Joseph W. Thibodeau. They were married for 54 years. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Harry and Edith (Hartley) Strobel, she had lived in Warwick for 26 years. She worked as a claims interviewer for the Rhode Island Department of Employment Security, retiring in 1980. She had previously worked as a bookkeeper at Citizens Bank. Mrs. Thibodeau was a former member of Betsy Williams Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, and Church of the Advent, Pawtucket. Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Dianne E. Parisi of Falls Church, Va., and Gail R. Bowers of Fort Myers; a twin sister, Dorothy McCormick of Narragansett; and three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter. Born in Warwick, a son of George H. and Margaret A. (Brennan) Foss of Warwick, he had been a lifelong Warwick resident. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Dorothy J. Harris, 59, of Oakland Beach Avenue, a former cook, died June 6, 2001, at home. She was the wife of the late Julius M. Harris. Born in Cumberland, a daughter of the late R. Joseph and Edith L. (Madison) Gilbert, she had lived in Warwick most of her life. She was a cook for the Warwick Community Action Program for 20 years until illness forced her retirement. She was a communicant of St. Rita Church, and a member of JONAH. She leaves three sons, Scott K. Harris of Pawtucket, and Kevin M. Harris and Julius M. Harris III, both of Warwick; a daughter, Lynn Marie Harris of Warwick; a sister, Shirley R. Santos of Woonsocket; a brother, William J. Gilbert of Clearwater, Fla.; and nine grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Dorothy Harris, and sister of the late Gordon and Barbara Gilbert. Frederick A. Sneesby, 84, of Weetamoe Drive, a retired mail carrier, died June 5, 2001, at the home of his daughter, Frances Duckworth, of Warwick. He was the husband of the late Theresa (Turcotte) Sneesby. Born in Pawtucket, a son of the late Edward and Overlena (Patnaude) Sneesby, he had lived in Pawtucket all his life before moving to Warwick. Mr. Sneesby was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the National Letter Carriers Association. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 101st Airborne Division. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Edward Church. Besides his daughter Frances, he leaves two other daughters, Tess A. Sneesby of Worcester, Mass., and Ellen S. Grimm of Barrington; four sons, Edward, Paul and Thomas Sneesby, all of Pawtucket, and Frederick Sneesby of Providence; a sister, Alma Lenz of Pawtucket; a brother, Edward A. Sneesby of Lincoln; and nine grandchildren. Virginia Charlotte (Bold) Wall, of Jerry Brown Farm, Wakefield, died December 1, 2003. She was the wife of Deputy Chief Walter J. Wall Jr., Cranston Fire Department (Ret.). They were married for 57 years. Born in Los Angeles, CA, a daughter of the late Percy J. and Charlotte (Burrows) Bold, she was a year-round resident of Wakefield since 1979 and had summered there since 1946. While living in Cranston for many years, she was active in politics. She was a member of Republican Women and a former recording secretary of the R.I. State Federation of Republican Women. An accomplished seamstress and quilter, she enjoyed reading, needlework and crafts in addition to gardening. Besides her husband she leaves four sons, Jeffrey J. Wall, Deputy Chief, Cranston Fire Department, of Warwick, Walter J. Wall III, Lt. Cranston Fire Department (Ret.) of Bradenton, FL, William J. Wall of North Providence and Stephen T. Wall of Westerly; a daughter, Jean E. Ehrler of Merritt Island, FL; and nine grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Robert Allan Wall. He was the husband of Elsie V. (Lamb) Oliver; they had been married for 62 years. Born in Warwick, a son of the late Archibald R. and Helen B. (Palmer) Oliver, he had lived in Warwick and Coventry before moving to North Scituate in August. Mr. Oliver worked for the Ballou, Johnson & Nichols Co. for 22 years before retiring in 1978. He previously had been a manager at the East Side Hardware Store, Providence, for 10 years. He also had been a volunteer fireman with the former Bayside Volunteer Fire Company,Warwick. A Navy veteran of World War II, serving with the Seabees, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 9404, Coventry. Mr. Oliver was a member of Shawomet Baptist Church, Warwick, where he was a former deacon and Sunday school superintendent. He was a member of Nathanael Greene Lodge 45, F&AM, Warwick; the Order of the Eastern Star's former Sincerity Chapter, now merged with Adah Chapter 15, East Greenwich; and the Order of DeMolay, Fidelity Chapter, Cranston. He also was a former ritual advisor to Byron A. Northup Chapter of DeMolay, Coventry. Besides his wife he leaves a son, Walter B. Oliver Jr. of Thousand Oaks, CA; two daughters, Linda J. Glew of Scituate, with whom he lived, and Jane E. Robitaille of West Warwick; a sister, Helen Clark in Florida; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. (O Donovan) Hobson, she had lived in Narragansett and Providence before moving to Warwick in 1978. Mrs. Mellon had worked as a medical secretary/receptionist for local doctors for 16 years before retiring in 1965. She leaves two daughters, Marilyn M. Haxton of Narragansett and former state Rep. Lorraine L. Kane of East Greenwich; a son, Francis J. Pete Mellon of Warwick; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late John E. Hobson. Violet M. (Burdick) Dennis, 97, of Post Road, a retired bookkeeper, died November 30, 2003, in Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. She was the wife of the late Arthur J. Dennis. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late Thomas S. and Mary (Soper) Burdick, she had lived in Cranston for more than 50 years and in the former Order of the Eastern Star House, Warwick, now known as Ethan Place, for seven years, before moving to the Brentwood Nursing Home in July. Mrs. Dennis had been a bookkeeper for Warwick Housing for the Elderly before she retired and had been the treasurer for nine years of the former OES House, now Ethan Place. Active for many years in the Order of the Eastern Star, she was a past matron of OES Signet Chapter 21. In Cranston she had been honored with the Rose Award for service of excellence by the General Grand Chapter of OES of Rhode Island. She also had been an associate mother advisor and senior treasurer of the Woodridge Assembly of the former Rainbow for Girls, now Rainbow. She was honored with the Grand Cross of Color for distinguished service to Rainbow in 1969. Mrs. Dennis was a founding member of the Woodridge United Church of Christ, Congregational, Cranston, where she had served as a board member, a deaconess and the Sunday school superintendent. She is survived by three granddaughters, Sharon D. Calestino of Cranston, Susan D. Card of Foster and Sandra D. Mann of Coventry; and three great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Donald A. Dennis and the sister of the late Grace G. Otte. The funeral service was held in Carpenter-Jenks Quaker Lane Chapel, 659 East Greenwich Ave., West Warwick.
