Carol Lee Manning
Former computer verifier, dancing enthusiast
Carol Lee (Bassett) Manning, 75, of Newman Avenue, a former computer verifier, died Saturday, December 25, 2004, at home.
She was the wife of Robert H. Manning. They had been married for 56 years. Born in Rehoboth, on November 27, 1929, a daughter of the late Newton and Mabel (Benedict) Bassett, she had lived in Seekonk since 1956. She was a 1946 graduate of the former Pawtucket East High School.
Ms. Manning was a computer verifier at Univis in Cranston many years ago. She enjoyed gardening, doing crossword puzzles and playing cards. She loved to dance, especially ballroom, square, and line dancing.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Wendy L. Manning, of Seekonk; a son, Wayne B. Manning, of North Carolina; a sister, Rae Marie LaCroix, of California; two brothers, Harvey Bassett, of California, and Ronald Bassett, of Cape Cod; three grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Her funeral service and burial will be private.
M. Lillian Bouffard
Retired registered nurse
M. Lillian Bouffard, 80, of Barrington Cove Apartments, Bay Spring Avenue, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Nelson J. Bouffard.
Born in Riverside, a daughter of the late Edward and Delia (Duperre) LaBrie, she lived in Barrington for the past five years, previously residing in North Dartmouth, Mass.
Mrs. Bouffard was a registered nurse for various East Bay nursing homes for 30 years before retiring in 1976. She also performed private duty nursing work.
She was a graduate of Bay View Academy Class of 1941 and Pawtucket Memorial Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1945.
Mrs. Bouffard enjoyed crafts, reading and crossword puzzles.
She leaves five daughters, Anne F. Laderer of Riverside, Barbara Reilly of Providence, Margaret M. Kishbauch of Flemington, N.J., Joan M. Yokow of Windsor, Conn. and Marie E. Laboissonniere of Smithfield; a son, Paul N. Bouffard of Greenville; a sister, Rose Marie Creighton of Riverside; two brothers, Roland J. LaBrie of Tucson, Ariz. and Leo R. LaBrie of Shaumberg, Ill.; and 13 grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Norman E. LaBrie and Victoria J. Kelly.
The funeral was held Tuesday from the W. Raymond Watson Funeral Home, Riverside, with a Mass of Christian burial at St. Brendan Church. Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Lucille B. Hacking
Former owner of Rumford shop Poise 'N Ivy
Lucille B. Hacking, 83, of Epoch Assisted Living, Providence, died Friday, Dec. 17, 2004, at Rhode Island Hospital.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Honorable George W. Boutilier and Gladys (Cooper) Boutilier. She formerly lived in Westerly and North Kingstown.
Ms. Hacking was the owner and operator of the Poise 'N Ivy women's dress boutique in Rumford, which specialized in teen and junior fashions. The East Providence Beautification Committee awarded her trees several times during the 1970s in recognition of her work with the shop.
She enjoyed nature and gardening, horse back riding, sailing, fishing and she was an advocate for animal rights and welfare. She particularly enjoyed the companionship of her many cats and dogs.
She leaves a son, Albert E. Hacking III, of Wakefield, and her beloved cat Foxy.
Funeral services were private. Arrangements were by the Cremation Society of Rhode Island, in Scituate. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Stand up for Animals, P.O. Box 1706, Westerly, RI, 02891.
Lorraine A. Kokoszka
Grandmother of seven
was married 45 years
Lorraine A. (LaCroix) Kokoszka, 66, of Plymouth Boulevard, Westport, formerly of Eastview Avenue, Somerset, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at Brigham and Women's Hospital. She was the wife of John Kokoszka Jr.; they were married 45 years.
Born in Bridgeport, Conn., she was the daughter of Bernadette (Berthiaume) LaCroix of Fall River and the late Aime LaCroix. She lived in Fall River and Somerset for many years.
Besides her husband and mother, she leaves a daughter, Debra DiSanti, and her husband, Donald, of Westport; two sons, David Kokoszka and his wife, Lori, of Fall River and Michael Kokoszka and his wife, Diane, of Franklin; and seven grandchildren.
Her funeral was held Tuesday, Dec. 28, from the Auclair Funeral Home, Fall River with a Mass in Notre Dame Church in Fall River. Burial was in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
Janet M. Taylor
Architect and longtime summer resident of Little Compton,
Janet MacColl Taylor, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at Bethany Home in Providence. She was the wife of the late Alden Mygatt Taylor.
A resident of Farmington, Conn., for most of her life, Mrs. Taylor had moved to Medway Place in Providence last summer. Born in Providence, she was the youngest daughter of Margery M. and Hugh F. MacColl, and attended Gordon School and The Wheeler School. After graduation from The Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, Conn., she entered Bennington College in 1940, where a course in architecture ignited an interest in modern design that lasted the rest of her life.
In 1942, she left college to enroll at the Harvard Graduate School of Design as a member of the first class of women. Studying under Walter Gropius and Richard Neutra among others, and alongside such luminaries as I.M. Pei and Philip Johnson, she graduated in 1946. She went on to design private residences around New England, including her own homes in Farmington and Little Compton, all reflecting the clean geometries of modern line that, with her use of glass, wood and natural stone, were a part of her modernist architectural vocabulary.
A natural athlete who loved sports, Mrs. Taylor played tennis and golf, competing in local competitions until well into her 70s. She was an expert sailor who raced competitively and cruised extensively with her husband aboard their Concordia yawl until his death in 1988. She was a member of the Sakonnet Yacht Club, the Sakonnet Golf Club, and a supporter of local conservation efforts.
Mrs. Taylor leaves a daughter, Janet Taylor Lisle, of Little Compton; and four sons, Geoffrey Taylor of Little Compton, Dr. Hugh Taylor of Wenham, Mass., Crane Taylor of Greenlawn, N.Y., and Robert K. Taylor of Providence; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. at the United Congregational Church in Little Compton. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Sakonnet Preservation Association, P.O. Box 945, Little Compton, R.I. 02837.
Rosemary Siembab
Bookkeeper, arts and crafts enthusiast
Rosemary (Daley) Siembab, 49, of Westport died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at home with her family by her side. She was the wife of Russell N. Siembab.
Born in Fall River, a daughter of Joseph F. and Lucille (Hoar) Daley of Westport, she had lived in Westport most of her life.
Mrs. Siembab was employed as a bookkeeper for Mark T. Gallant, P.C. of Westport.
She was a communicant of St. George Church, Westport. Mrs. Siembab was an arts and crafts enthusiast and enjoyed hiking and antiquing.
Besides her husband and her parents, she leaves a son, Gregory T. Siembab of Westport; a daughter, Andrea R. Siembab of Westport; a sister, Joanne Godbout of Cranston; a grandson, Darian Logan Siembab; and a nephew.
He funeral was held from the Potter Funeral Home, Westport, on Saturday, Jan. 29, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. George Church, Westport. Burial was private.
Luzia A. Santana
Came to U.S. from Azores
Luzia A. (Furtado) Santana, 95, of Thames Street, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005 at Roger Williams Hospital. She was the wife of the late Manuel Viera Santana.
Born in Sta. Luzia, Pico, the Azores, a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria Furtado, she moved from the Azores to Bristol 26 years ago. A homemaker, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
She leaves two sons, Joao Santana of Montreal, Canada and Luis Santana of Toronto, Canada; five daughters, Maria Silva, Albertina Vitorino and Madelina Tavares, all of Bristol, Rosa Viera Elias of Pico, the Azores and Ludvina Fidalgo of Toronto; 26 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was the mother of the late Jose, Serafin, Manuel and Antonio Santana, the grandmother of the late Glenn Fidalgo and the great-grandmother of the late Amy Lynn Labao.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 29, from the George C. Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian burial in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Henry D. Rose
Father of district 63 state representative Henry C. Rose
Henry D. Rose, 93, of Baldwin Street, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005, at Waterview Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
He was the husband of the late Mary F. Rose.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Frank and Maria Duarte Rose. He lived in East Providence and summered in Touisset for 50 years.
Mr. Rose was the president and owner of the Rose Furniture Co., Rose Realty and Alliance Finance Corporation of Rhode Island. He was also a communicant of St. Martha's Church.
Mr. Rose belonged to many organizations. He was a member of the St. Pius X Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly, East Providence Kiwanis, East Providence Business Men's Association and the Warren Avenue Business Association. He was also a member of the board of directors for the Greater Providence Trust Co., and the East Providence Budget Committee. Mr. Rose was the oldest living member of the Holy Ghost Brotherhood of Rehoboth and the Portuguese R. Atheneum Band of Providence.
He enjoyed gardening in Touisset, music and traveling abroad. One of his favorite trips was with Bishop Louis E. Gelineau to the Azores in 1983. He also helped many families immigrating to this country from Portugal, the Azores and Brazil.
He leaves one daughter, Florence R. Agresti of Touisset; three sons, State Representative Henry C. Rose and Francis A. Rose, both of East Providence, and Thomas A. Rose of Seekonk; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was the brother of the late Mary Rogers, Palmeida Silveria, Clara Castro, Rose Dorothy Rose and Frank D. Rose.
The funeral is Thursday, Feb. 3, at 8:45 a.m., from the Rebello Funeral Home, 901 Broadway, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Martha's Church on Pawtucket Avenue. Calling hours were Wednesday, Feb. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Rebello Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Rhode Island Chapter, 245 Waterman St., suite 306, Providence, R.I. 02906.
Burial is in Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in Pawtucket.
Cecilia E. Rivard
Member of Our Lady of Grace Church
Cecilia E. (LaFrance) Rivard, 98, of Westport, died on Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, at Sacred Heart Home. She was the wife of the late Joseph E. Rivard.
Born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Joseph and Wilhemina (Larouche) LaFrance, she had lived in Westport for the past 30 years.
Mrs. Rivard was a mill worker for various mills in the area.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport, and was also a member of Dames de St. Anne of Notre Dame Parish, Fall River.
She leaves a son, Edward Rivard of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Jeanne Tunney of Westport; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Claire Guay.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, Jan. 27, at Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport. Burial was in Notre Dame Cemetery, Fall River. Arrangements are by the Potter Funeral Home, Westport.
Rosaline Salcone

Rosaline (Perna) Salcone, 86, of 1014 Hope St., died Monday, Feb. 14, 2005 at the Evergreen House Nursing Home in East Providence. She was the wife of the late Anthony V. Salcone.
Born in Bristol, a daughter of the late Michael Perna and Mary (Garcia) Alexander, she was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
She leaves a daughter, Ruth A. Smith of Riverside; a son, Peter Salcone of Apopka, Fla.; three sisters, Lucy Martin of Swansea, Louise Greenhalgh of Port St. Lucie, Fla. and Florence Foster of Longwood, Fla.; and two brothers, Louis Alexander of The Villages, Fla. and Raymond Alexander of Barrington. She was a sister of the late Frank Perna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St.
Burial will be private. Arrangements were by the Sansone Funeral Home.
Faye M. Wilbur
Worked in Tiverton schools, active at her church
Faye M. (Smith) Wilbur, 64, of East King Road, Tiverton, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005, at Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River after a short illness. She was the wife of Donald F. Wilbur.
Born in Westport, a daughter of the late Robert E. and Doris S. (Teasdale) Smith, and foster daughter of the late Ralph W. Tripp, Jr. and Kay (Souza) Tripp, she had resided in Tiverton for the past 37 years.
Prior to her illness, she was employed by the Tiverton School Department as a cafeteria worker.
Mrs. Wilbur was a deaconess and Sunday school teacher with the Bliss Four Corners Congregational Church, Tiverton. She enjoyed cooking and arts and crafts.
Including her husband, she leaves two sons, William H. Wilbur of Tiverton and Adam R. Wilbur of Fall River; a daughter, Jennifer Sikora of Fall River; a sister, Gertrude Edwards of Maine; two foster brothers, Ralph W. Tripp III of New Bedford and Lt. Commander U.S. Coast Guard Retired Leighton H. Tripp of Gulfport, Miss.; two grandchildren, Aleasha Wilbur and Kyle Wilbur; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Donald F. Wilbur, Jr. and sister of the late Richard Smith and Cheryl Smith.
Her funeral was held on Saturday, Feb. 12, at Bliss Four Corners Congregational Church, Tiverton. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery, Tiverton. Arrangements are by the Potter Funeral Home,Westport.
Lois V. Sullivan
Retired registered nurse,
leaves son in Barrington
Lois V. Sullivan, 75, of First Street, East Providence, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2005, at Hattie Ide Chaffee Nursing Home.
She was the wife of William C. Sullivan.
Born in Pawtucket, a daughter of the late Arthur and Eva (Lamoreux) Hickey, she lived in East Providence for 49 years.
She was a registered nurse at Rhode Island Hospital and was a nursing instructor at the Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing for 31 years, retiring in 1989.
Ms. Sullivan was a 1950 graduate of Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and was a past president of its alumni association. She was a 1973 graduate of Rhode Island College with a master's degree in Education. She was also a member of the Bay View Academy Alumni, the Sacred Heart Church Choir and the Central Congregational Church Choir in Providence.
She enjoyed gardening and summering at her second home in Westport.
Besides her husband, Ms. Sullivan leaves four sons, Steven W. Sullivan of Westport, Timothy D. Sullivan of Warwick, Brian M. Sullivan of Barrington and Daniel K. Sullivan for Westlake Village, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral was Monday, Feb. 14, from the Perry/McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., in St. Brendan's Church, Turner Avenue, Riverside. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to Hospice Care of Rhode Island, 169 George St., Pawtucket, R.I., 02860.
Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
