Thanh Ba Phan
Thanh Ba Phan, 69, of 57 Weeks Street, died Tuesday at home. He was the husband of Thanh Dang.

Born (9-11-1935) in Vietnam, he was the son of the late Nhan Phan and My Le. He moved to this country in 1980, settling in Central Falls, then moving to Cumberland for the past 9 years.

He was a Toy Manufacturer for Hasbro Inc., until retirement in 1996.

Besides his wife he leaves six children, Hang Phan of Sacramento, California, Ha Phan, Huyen Phan, Hung Phan, Huy Phan, Hoa Phan, all of Cumberland. One sister, Anh T. Phan of Vietnam, and Duong Phan of Ohio. Six grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 A.M. in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland.

DANDURAND, Robert E.
Feb. 14, 2004

Husband of Theresa (Caron) Dandurand. Residence: Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of 6 Murphy Drive, Cumberland. Funeral Saturday at 8 A.M. from the J. J. Robert E. Dandurand, 73, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Murphy Drive, died Saturday in the Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte, Florida. He was the husband of Theresa (Caron) Dandurand.

Born (7-27-1930) in Valley Falls, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late George and Alice (Richards) Dandurand. He resided residing in Cumberland for most of his life, moving to Florida for the past three years.

He was a Machinist for the former Corning Glasworks of Central Falls, now Osram-Sylvania, for 33 years, retiring in 1992.

He was a US Army war veteran serving during the Korean conflict.

He was a former communicant of the St. Aidan Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.

Besides his wife he leaves a daughter, Linda Anderson of Attleboro, MA. and a son, Robert D. Dandurand of Warwick, RI. One sister, Georgette Hebert of Cumberland. Three grandchildren, and several neices and nephews. Brother of the late Henry Dandurand.

His funeral will be held on Saturday at 8 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 A.M. in the St. Aidan Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Notre Dame Cemetery, Dagett Avenue, Pawtucket.

RIBEIRO, Antonio A.
Feb. 16, 2004

Husband of Carmen (Gouveia) Ribeiro. Residence: 32 Macondray Street, Cumberland. A celebration of his life on Friday at 9 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Antonio A. Ribeiro, 80, of 32 Macondray Street, died Monday in the Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket. He was the wife of Carmen (Gouveia) Ribeiro.

Born (11-4-1923) in Attleboro, MA he was the son of the late Joaquim and Celia Ribeiro. He resided in Cumberland for the past 53 years.
He was a self-employed mason for Anthony and Freria Construction Company of Cumberland for 17 years until his retirement in 1969.

He was a US Navy World War II veteran.

He was an active member in the Oasis of Grace Church, Providence. He was a member of the ASPCA. He was a former member of the Pawtucket, F.O.P.A. Mr. Ribeiro also enjoyed animals, music and was an avid auto enthusiast.

Besides his wife he leaves one son, Richard T. Ribeiro of Manville, RI, and a daughter, Carmen M. Ribeiro of Sterling, Ct. Five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday at 9 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Funeral service at 10 A.M. in the Oasis of Grave Church, 464 Silver Spring Street, Providence. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Curran Road, Cumberland.

DARLINGTON, JR. FRED
FEB. 19, 2004

Fred Darlington Jr., 72, of 16 Douglas Drive, died Thursday in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. He was the husband of Joan (Greene) Darlington.

Born (10-17-1931) in Pawtucket, RI he was the son of the late Fred and Florence (Bateman) Darlington Sr. He resided in Cumberland for the past 70 years.

He was a foreman for New England Telephone, now Verizon for 40 years, retiring in 1990.

Mr. Darlington wasa US Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on the USS Jallao Submarine for seven years.

He was a communicant of St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland.

Besides his beloved wife he leaves two sons, Fred Darlington III of Cumberland, David A. Darlington of North Kingstown, and one daughter Keri-Lyn Smith of Cumberland. One sister, Marjorie G. McGuire of Foster.

His funeral with military honors will be held Monday at 9 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.

LAJOIE, Lionel A.
February 22, 2004

Husband of Doris (Brunet) Lajoie. Residence 1044 Mendon Road, formerly 35 First Avenue, Woonsocekt. Funeral Wednesday at 10 A.M. in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in the St. Joseph Church, Woonsocket. Relatives and Friends are Kindly Invited. Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.

Lionel A. Lajoie, 94, of 1044 Mendon Road, formerly of 35 First Avenue, died Sunday in the Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the husband of 62 years to Doris (Brunet) Lajoie.

Born (1-1-1910) in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Joseph and Clara (Tessier) Lajoie. He was a life long Woonsocket resident.

He was retired from Taft-Pierce Mfg. Co. in 1976, after 50 years of service, where he was a toolmaker, and a Senior First Aider, and Assistant to the Director under the Office of Occupational Saftey and Health Administration Act of 1970.

In 1990, he was presented a 55-year service award from the Boy Scouts of America, becoming only the 2nd person in the Thundermist District to recieve such an award. A dedicated horseman, he showed his Palomino, "Banner" in several horse shows and the Springfield fair, competing in the Western class and garnered several blue ribbons. In 1983 he founded and served as chairman of the Greater Woonsocket Hall of Fame which honors citizens from Woonsocket, and surrounding areas who have made National and International fame. He also served on the committee for the Lajoie Press Box at Renaud Field and accepted the award as the nephew of the late Napoleon "Nap" Lajoie famous baseball player in the 1880's and 1890's. He was a member of the Royal Travelers Association and the Boy Scouts of America.

Besides his beloved wife, he leaves one son, Lionel Lajoie of Woonsocket. One sister, Ella Adams of Lincoln, and several nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Adona Lajoie, Ted Lajoie, Waldo Lajoie, Aldor Lajoie, Lillian Lajoie, Edwina Lajoie, and Rena Lajoie.

His funeral will be held on Wendesday at 10 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt.122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. in the St. Joseph Church, Woonsocket. Burial will follow in the Precious Blood Cemetery.

YOUNG, Paul J.

Paul J. Young, 62, of 16 Delaware Avenue, died Sunday in the Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island Inpatient Unit, Providence. He was the husband of Patricia (Podgurski) Young.

Born 11-11-1941) in Central Falls, RI, he was the son of the late Henry and Rita (Burke) Young. He was a life long Cumberland resident.

He was a Truck Driver for Roadway Express, Inc. of Lincoln for 30 years, retiring in 2002.

Mr. Young was a United States Air Force Veteran, serving during the Vietnam era.

He was an avid train enthusiast.

Besides his beloved wife, he leaves three sons, Robert J. Young of Smithfield, and Michael J. Young and Steven J. Young both of Cumberland.

His funeral with military honors, will be held Thursday at 8 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 A.M. in St. Aidan Church, Diamond Hill Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.

SIMAO, Alfredo

Alfredo Simao, 82, of 24 Ingraham Street, died Monday in the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. He was the wife of Maria (Guerra Rei) Simao.

Born ( 9-20-1921) in Portugal, he was the son of Joaquim and Adelaide (Arelo) Simao. He resided in Cumberland for 30 years.

He was a machine operator for the former Cadillac Textile Company, retiring in 1982.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland.

Besides his beloved wife, he leaves two sons, Frank Simao and Jack Simao, two daughters, Cristina Simao and Carmen Simao, all of Cumberland. Two brothers, Amandeu Simao of Argentina and Celestino Simao of Portugal. Two grandchildren, Justin Simao and Morgan Simao, both of Cumberland.

His funeral will be held Thursday at 9 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland

Edward P. Manning
Edward P. Manning, 79, of 767 Nate Whipple Highway died Sunday in the Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Regina (Fitzpatrick) Manning.

Born (11-16-24) in Providence he was a son of the late John E. and Margaret M (Cahir) Manning. He resided in Cumberland for the past 44 years.

He was a partner in the law firm of Manning & West, of Cumberland establishing the firm in 1953 after being appointed to the R. I. Bar. He was a moderator for the Town of Cumberland from 1965 to 1977. He was a active environmentalist and was appointed Chairman of the Governor’s Environmental Task Force in 1972.

A life long democrat, he had been a representative in the R. I. House of Representatives since January 1967, Deputy Majority Leader in 1976 and Speaker of the House from 1977 to 1980.

He was a WW II, U. S. Army Air Corps veteran serving as a flight engineer0 gunner on a B-24 Bomber over France and Germany.

He was a 1952 graduate of Catholic University School of Law, Washington, DC.

He was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church, Cumberland. He was a member of the R. I. and American Bar Association’s. He was a member of the Friendly Son’s of St. Patrick and the Son’s of Irish Kings.

Besides his wife he leaves two son’s, John E. Manning of Cumberland and Edward P. Manning Esq. of Providence. Four daughters, Mary M. Powell of Franklin, MA, Stephanie M. McGuane of Wrentham, MA, Amy J. Manning Esq. of North Providence and Melanie T. Christenbury Esq. of Raleigh, NC. He also leaves one sister, Doris Blake of Washington, DC. Five grandchildren Several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late John E. Manning.

Funeral with military honors will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Church, Diamond Hill Rd., Cumberland. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to calling hours. Wednesday 4-8 p.m. in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Dominic’s Convent, 496 Western Hwy., Victory Highway, Blauvelt, NY 10913 or Washington Middle School for Girls, 2683 Douglas Rd. George Ameen Haddad, 64, of 44 Birch Road, Cumberland, previously of the Parkview Apartments, Pawtucket, died Tuesday in the Rhode Island Hospital. He was the husband of Patricia (Natsu) Haddad.

Born (3-7-1939) in Central Falls, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Nasarwie) Haddad. He resided in Cumberland, with his daughter for the past 3 years, previously residing in Pawtucket for many years.

Besides his wife he leaves, Two Daughters, Sharyn Vicente and Shanna Gibson both of Cumberland. One son, Richard Haddad of Cumberland. Two brothers, William Haddad and Michael Haddad, both of Pawtucket. Five Grandchildren.

His funeral will be held Saturday at 9 A.M. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. in the St. Basil the Great Church, Liuncoln. Inurnment will follow on Saturday March 6, in the St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland.

Marion J. Tamul, 91, of Bryant St. died Monday in the Grandview Nursing Center, Cumberland. She was the wife of the late John Tamul.

Born (1-20-13) in Providence she was a daughter of the late John and Sarah (Giblin) Pashalian. She resided in Cumberland for the past 53 years.

She was employed by the former Ann & Hope, Cumberland for 25 years retiring in 1984.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick Church, Cumberland.

She leaves one son, John W. Tamul of Jacksonville, FL and a daughter, Patricia A. Deaett of Cumberland. Four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Her funeral will be held Thursday at 8 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
