1928-2008
Antonio Goes Jr., 79, of Samoset Avenue, passed away Saturday at home. He was the husband of the late Veronica A. (Rose) Goes.

Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Antonio and Helen Goes. He resided in Central Falls for many years, previously residing in Lincoln.

Mr. Goes was employed by Blackstone Auto Body for many years.

His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 AM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Curran Road, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Tuesday, 4-8 PM.

Theresa Goryl
1927-2008
Theresa Goryl, 80, of Alaska Street passed away Saturday, March 22, 2008 in Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. She was the wife of the late Theodore P. Goryl.

Born in Central Falls, RI, She was the daughter of the late Ovila Sylvestre and the late Aurore Fortier. She resided in Cumberland for the past 45 years.

Mrs. Goryl was employed as a seamstress for the Rayco Co., of Pawtucket for many years. She also worked as a waitress for the Village Haven of North Smithfield for many years.

She was a communicant of St. Aidan Church, Cumberland. She enjoyed making crafts, and attending craft shows.

She is survived by a son, Thomas Goryl, and his wife Ginny of Rumford, RI, granddaughter, Lindsey Goryl of Rumford, and her little friend Boots. She was the sister of the late Arthur Sylvestre, Leo Sylvestre, Raymond Sylvestre, Antoinette Pearson, Bernadette Rouilier, and Ida Thomas.

Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 8 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home 757 Mendon Road Cumberland, RI. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. Aidan Church, Cumberland, RI 02864 .

Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling hours 4-8 PM, Tuesday, March 25.

Raymond Costa
August 17, 1935 - March 23, 2008
Raymond Anthony Costa, 72, formerly of Cumberland died Sunday at home.

Born August 17, 1935 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Anthony Costa and the late Loretta DeLisle. He resided in Casselberry for the past 5 years and previously resided in Cumberland.

He was the owner of R. A. Costa Cesspool Company for many years. He was a Cumberland School Bus Driver, and dealt in Real Estate for many years. He was most of all an entrepreneur and worked in various different industries.

He leaves his 3 Daughters, Donna M Pagano of Hanover, MA, Debra DiFonzo of Sanford, FL, Joanne Noviello of North Providence, RI; a Sister, Violet Knych of Cumberland, RI. He also leaves his first wife, and mother of his children, Gina Costa of Cumberland; as well as 2 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 1 great-granddaughter.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 9AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Manville, RI . Relatives and friends are kindly invited. George H. Lemire
1930-2008
George H. Lemire, 77, of Delaware Ave., Cumberland passed away Monday in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. For over forty years he had been the loving husband of Irene R. (Chartier) Lemire.

Born in Central Falls, he was the son of the late Henry and Aurore (Gaudreau) Lemire.

He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was a Supervisor for the Murdock Webbing, Central Falls for many years, until his retirement

Besides his wife he leaves a son, Norman Proctor of Webster, MA; two brothers, Robert of FL, Roland of AZ; three sisters, Irene Lamontagne of Cumberland, Doris Gingras of Pawtucket, Pauline Bertoncini of Pawtucket. He also leaves several nieces and nephews among them Ron and Pauline Gingras.

His funeral will be held Friday, at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Aidan Church, Diamond Hill Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket, RI. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held 5-8, Thursday.

Michael Karbonik
July 23, 1920 - March 27, 2008
Michael Karbonik, 87 of Abigail Road, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2008 in Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the husband of Simone (Roy) Karbonik, they were married 61 years.

Born in 1920 in New Britain, CT, he was the son of the late Basil and Martha (Harajda) Karbonik. He resided in Cumberland for 61 years, and previously resided in Connecticut.

He was employed by the Valley Gas Co., now National Grid of Cumberland for 15 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church, where he was the first lector.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, David Karbonik and Peter Karbonik, both of Cumberland; three daughters, Kathy Halle of Maryland, Carol LaPorte of the Netherlands, and Anne Karbonik of Cumberland. He also leaves four grandchildren, Jaap and Jesse LaPorte, Juliana and Elise Karbonik. He also leaves one sister, Mae Karbonik of New Britain, CT. He was the brother of the late Olga Riedel, Jo Burger.

His funeral will be held Monday at 10 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in the St. Joseph Church. Burial will be held Tuesday at 9 AM in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Cumberland.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Sunday from 5-8 PM.

Elizabeth L. Devonis
1919 - 2008

Elizabeth L. Devonis, 88, formerly of Victory St. died peacefully surrounded by her loving family, Sunday in the Oakland Grove Health Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of the late William J. Devonis Sr.
Born in Pawtucket she was the daughter of the late Malcom and Mary (LaCroix) McNeil. She resided in Cumberland for over twenty years.

She was employed by the Globe Narrow Fabric Co., Pawtucket until her retirement in 1951.

She was a communicant of the Historic St. Joseph Church, Cumberland and a member of the Walter Gatchell Post, V.F.W., Ladies Auxiliary, Pawtucket.

She leaves a son, William J. Devonis Jr. and a daughter Sherry L. Lacasse both of Cumberland. She also leaves seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Carol A. McDonough, and grandmother of the late Robert McDonough Jr., and great-grandmother of Stephen T. Lawton.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 8 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Rd., Cumberland. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Providence. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Gerard Frappier
1923 - 2008
Gerard Frappier, 85, of 1195 Park Ave., Woonsocket passed away Monday in the Philip Hulitar Center. He was the husband of Theresa (Paris) Frappier.

Born in Canada, he was the son of the late Joseph Frappier. He resided in Woonsocket most of his life.
He was employed by the Glasscraft Corp., North Smithfield for many years, retiring in 1984.

He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Woonsocket.

Besides his wife he leaves three sons, Gerard Frappier of Norwood, NC, Robert Frappier of Atlanta, GA, Donald Frappier of Cumberland; 2 sisters, Sister Elizabeth Frappier of St. Hyacinthe, Canada, Theresa Frappier of North Smithfield; Six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late David Frappier.

He funeral will be held Thursday, at 8 AM from the J. J. DUFFY FUNERAL HOME, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 1409 Park Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Robert G. Reetz III
1964-2008
Robert G. Reetz III, 43 of Angell Road passed away Tuesday, May 13 in the Pawtucket Memorial Hospital.

Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of Robert G. and Judith A. (Veloso) Reetz Jr. He resided in Cumberland for most of his life, previously residing for 5 years in San Diego, CA.

He was an 1982 graduate of St. Raphael's Academy, and a 1986 graduate of Bryant College.

During the course of his career, he worked at several Providence restaurants, Pot Au Feu; Westin Hotels, the former Davio's in the Biltmore Hotel, Eclectic Grill, and more recently L'Epicurio in the Hotel Providence. He was also a co-owner of Frenchy Marseilles Restaurant in San Diego, CA for several years.

In addition to his parents he leaves a devoted brother, Keith R. Reetz, and his wife Laura of Pawtucket; three nephews, Joshua K. Reetz, David and Marc Burns all of Pawtucket; a beloved aunt, Jacqueline McGreevy, several cousins, Robin Guenther, Michael McGreevy, William, Scott, Todd Sisson, and Kristen Ainsburg, and Linda Reetz Johnson.

His funeral will be held Friday at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the Historic St. Joseph Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Thursday, 4-8 PM.

Alberta M. Emilianowicz
1925-2008
Alberta M. (Kelleher) Emilianowicz, 82, of Cumberland Street, passed away Thursday, in the Landmark Medical Center, Woonsocket. She was the wife of Wallace "Buster" Emilianowicz.

Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late William and Ada (Crompton) Kelleher. She was a life-long Cumberland resident.

She was an School Lunch Attendant for the Cumberland School System for 30 years until her retirement in 1989.

She leaves one son, Edward Emilianowicz, and wife Judy of West Chester, OH; one granddaughter Kimberly Emilianowicz of Lodi, CA; one grandson Andrew Emilianowicz of West Chester, OH; one brother, Edward "Ned" Kelleher of Cumberland; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Ethel Richard, Bernice King, Isabel Fountain, Herbert, William, Joseph, and John Kelleher.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 5 PM in the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Calling Hours will be held Monday, 3-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Diabetes Association of Rhode Island, 22 Richmond Street, Suite 204, Providence, RI 02904.

Janet L. Thomson
1918 - 2008
Janet L. Thomson, 89 formerly of Forest Ave, Cumberland and River Road, Lincoln, passed away Monday in Roberts Health Center, North Kingstown. She was the wife of the late David Thomson.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Hugh and Marion (Devlin) Linton.

She was a baker for the former Barnes Bakery in Lincoln for 30 years until her retirement.

She is survived by her two daughters Janet Gorniewicz and Betty Farenchak, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Marshall Linton; Maxwell Linton; Lee Linton; Marion Dick and Edith Murphy.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 10, 2008 at 11 AM in St. Matthew Trinity Lutheran Church, 690 Newport Avenue, Pawtucket.

Joao Aragao
1912 - 2008

Joao Aragao, 95, of John St. died Friday in the Oakland Grove Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Pawtucket. He was the husband of the late Maria R. (deSouza) Aragao.

Born in Prados, Portugal he was the son of the late Antonio N. and Maria (Neto) Aragao. He came to this country from Brazil in 1968 and returned to Brazil in 1979. He again returned to this country in 1999.

He had worked at the former Cadillac Textile Co., Cumberland for eight years until his retirement.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He was a member of the Clube Juventude Lusitana, Cumberland and Past President of the St. Vincent DePaul Society in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

He leaves two sons, Jose L. "Lou" Aragao and Sal Aragao both of Cumberland. Four daughters, Vitalina Aragao dos Santos and Isabel Aragao dos Santos both of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Maria J. Hubsch of Massachusetts and Florida and Vera Aragao Sampaio of Cumberland. He also leaves twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Manuel, Jose and Francisco Aragao and Maria C. Rei.

His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd. Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Dr., Cumberland. Burial will take place in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Lucienne "Lucy" Benoit
1911-2008
Lucienne "Lucy" Benoit (Masson), 96, formerly of Prospect Street, passed away Wednesday, April 16 in the Cortland Place Life Care Center, Greenville. She was the wife of the late Adelard Benoit.

Born in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Lucien and Marie (Massus) Masson. She was a life-long Cumberland resident.

She was a Communicant of St. Patrick Church. After retirement she enjoyed golfing with her husband.

She leaves two sons, Raymond Benoit of Woonsocket, and Robert Benoit of Fairhaven, MA. She also leaves four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Marcella Germaine Poissant, Yvonne F. Devaney, Albert M. Masson.

Her funeral will be held Friday, April 25, at 8 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd., Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in the St. Patrick Church, __ Broad Street, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Mt Calvary Cemetery.

Nancy D. Lind
1926-2008
Nancy D. Lind of formerly of Leonard Street passed away Monday, in the Woonsocket Health Center. She was the wife of the late Frank O. Lind Jr.

Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Butler) Dursin. She resided in Cumberland for most of her life, previously residing in Woonsocket.

She was a 1944 Graduate of Woonsocket High School, and a 1948 graduate of Julliard College, School of Music.

She was a communicant of St. Joan of Arc Church, where she was a CCD Teacher, and a member of the church choir. She also was a member of the Peloquin Choir, and was a noted singer in Woonsocket for many years, performing on various local radio stations.

She leaves three sons, Frank O. Lind III of Brooklyn, NY, Matthew Lind of Providence, and Peter Lind of Lincoln; four daughters, Christine LaFlamme of Cumberland, Catherine Finstein of Warwick, Mary Poluvatzick of Cumberland, and Amy Kean of Warwick. She also leaves 16 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Michael P. Lind. She was the sister of the late Henry Dursin, Marilyn Ring, and Harriet Carpenter

Her funeral will be held Friday, April 25, at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Rd., Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the St. Joan of Arc Church, Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial will follow in the Precious Blood Cemetery, Woonsocket.

Joao Oliveira, 62, of Hope Street, passed away Friday, April 18 in New England Medical Center, Boston. He was the husband of Maria L. (Gomes ) Oliveira.

Born in Portugal, he was the son of the late Joao and Laura (do Carmo) Oliveira. He resided in Cumberland for 31 years.

He was a Communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Cumberland.

He leaves a daughter, Suzy Melo and son-in-law, Steven of Bristol, four brothers, Antonio Oliveira, and Jose Oliveira both of Portugal, Manuel Oliveira and Carlos Oliveira both of Cumberland; two sisters, Nazare Teles and Gondina Silva both of Portugal. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, April 22, at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the Our Lady of Fatima Church, Fatima Drive, Cumberland.. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Cumberland. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Margarida V. Leitao
Aug. 12, 1920 - April 15, 2008

Margarida V. Leitao, 87 of Hanover Avenue, formerly of Cumberland, died Tuesday, in Home and Hospice Care of RI. She was the wife of the late Joseph Leitao

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, She was the daughter of the late Jose Matos Violante and the late Rosaria Violante. She resided in Cumberland and previously Milford, MA.

She was employed by the Milford Shoe Company for many years, retiring in 1985.

She leaves her two sons, Telmo "Ted" Leitao of Pawtucket, Victor V. Leitao of Capetown, South Africa; three brothers, Manuel Violante of France, Jose Violante, and John Violante, both of Portugal. She also leaves three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Maria Pixao and Henrique Violante.

Her funeral will be held Saturday, April 19, at 9 AM from the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, 757 Mendon Road, Rt. 122, Cumberland. Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in the Our Lady of Fatima Church.
