Juanita Bazzle Cook, retired from Southern Bell
ORANGEBURG - Juanita Bazzle Cook died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Orangeburg Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Cook, 75, resided at 528 Cedar Lane.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rivelon Baptist Church, Orangeburg. The Rev. Larry Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, Orangeburg.
Mrs. Cook was a daughter of the late Huey and Posey Wilson Bazzle. She was retired from Southern Bell.
Mrs. Cook was a member of Rivelon Baptist Church. She was also a member of Southern Bell Pioneers Club.
She was the wife of the late John William Cook.
Survivors include one son, William Craig Cook, Moncks Corner; two sisters, Marguerite Simpson, Augusta, and Iola Morton, Aiken; three brothers, Hilton Bazzle and Billy Bazzle, both of Aiken, and Charles Bazzle, Alabama; and one grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Rivelon Baptist Church, 395 Rivelon Road, Orangeburg 29115.
Friends may call at the residence or from 6-8 p.m. today at Thompson Funeral Home, Orangeburg.
Roger Allan Gathercoal, retired, Dept. of Agriculture
Roger Allan Gathercoal, 71, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
A native of Chicago, Mr. Gathercoal was a son of the late Jesse Root and Elizabeth Gathercoal. He was retired from the Department of Agriculture after 30 years of service.
Mr. Gathercoal was a Navy veteran.
He was a member of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church.
He was the husband of the late Alice Berry Gathercoal.
Survivors include four sons, James Barry Gathercoal, Falls Church, Va., William Jesse Gathercoal, McLean, Va., Joseph Roger Gathercoal, Toms Brook, Va., and Michael Thomas Gathercoal, Aiken; two daughters, Karen Brown, Aiken, and Kathleen Hansens, Midland, Mich.; one brother, Elliot Gathercoal, Fingerdale, Fla.; one sister, Doris Clark, Fairbanks, Ark.; and 12 grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box K, Aiken 29802.

Otto E. Gregory, retired, Aiken Water Works
Otto E. Gregory, 88, died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Mattie C. Hall Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Shiloh Baptist Church. The Revs. Louie Anderson and Marion Britton will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Aiken County, Mr. Gregory was a son of the late Ollie M. and Bertie Satcher Gregory. He was retired from the City of Aiken Water Works Department after 28 years of service.
He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nadine Keel Gregory; two sons, Earl Gregory, Aiken, and Everette Gregory, Belvedere; one brother, Kenneth Gregory, Aiken; one sister, Mildred Seigler, Aiken; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Broudus Padgett, Truman Summer, Sinclair Webster, Everett Satcher, Tom Newsome and Harvey Fulmer.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box K, Aiken 29802.

Bertyle White Johnson, former retail manager
Bertyle White Johnson died Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at her residence.
Mrs. Johnson, 87, resided at 54 Ward Circle.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Redds Branch Baptist Church. The Rev. Jamie Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Mississippi, Mrs. Johnson was a daughter of the late Luther Burton and Mary Ann Summers White. She was a former retail manager.
Mrs. Johnson was a member of Redds Branch Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Herbert W. Johnson, Aiken; one daughter, Barbara Jo Davis, Aiken; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Sarah L. Jones, Lexington Medical Center
RIDGE SPRING - Sarah L. Jones died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Mrs. Jones, 71, resided at 1071 Dairy Road.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Chinquapin Baptist Church, Batesburg. The Rev. W.T. Stover will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of Aiken County, Mrs. Jones was retired from Lexington Medical Center.
She was a member of Chinquapin Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Myers and Leroy Jones, both of Ridge Spring; two daughter, Rosetta Carroll, Greenwood, and Deborah Mitchell, Pasco, Wash.; one brother, Arthur Myers, Rockville Center, N.Y.; one sister, Rosabell Martin, St. Petersburg, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Frances Weeks Wise, retail sales worker
SALUDA - Frances Weeks Wise, 84, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Saluda Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Butler United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ben Ward and Francis Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
A native of North Augusta, Mrs. Wise was a daughter of the late Belton E. and Edith Rachels Weeks. She worked in retail sales and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Wise was a Methodist.
She was the wife of the late John F. Wise.
Survivors include two sons, John F. Wise Jr., Wagener, and Marion C. Wise, Southport, N.C.; one daughter, Brenda Wise Smith, Aiken; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

James G. Carr Jr., retired mechanical engineer
LAURENS - James G. Carr Jr., 61, of Primrose Lane, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Anna Maria Nursing & Rehabilitation, North Augusta.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16 at Breezy Hill Baptist Church, Graniteville.
The Rev. Fred Mann will officiate and burial will be in Vaucluse. Mr. Carr was a native of Vaucluse. He had lived in Laurens for the past 12 years. He was a member of Breezy Hill Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 63, VFW Post No. 3200, Augusta, Masonic Lodge No. 156, and the E. Porter Alexander Camp No. 158 SCV. He was a charter member of the Samuel McGowan Camp No. 40, SCV in Laurens. He was an Army veteran and also served in the Air Force and the Air Force reserve. He was a retired mechanical engineer with the Graniteville Co., CMI, Inc. and Lowery Mechanical, Laurens.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Stephens Carr of Laurens; two sons, Gary L. Carr and James G. Carr III, both of Greenwood; two daughters, Pamela R. Deep of Johnson City, Tenn., and Kimberly D. Carr of Richmond, Va.; two brothers, Tony L. Carr Sr. of North Augusta, and Kenneth R. Carr Sr. of Augusta; and three grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tony L. Carr Jr., Michael Deep, Billy Stephens, Robert Carr, Gary Stephens, Johnnie Stephens, Daniel Carr and Bobby Carr Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Post No. 71, North Augusta.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box K, Aiken, 29802, the VA Medical Center, Augusta; or to the Breezy Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 235, Graniteville, 29829.

Estelle Shiles Gooden
Estelle Shiles Gooden, 97, of York Street, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16 at the Shellhouse Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Dr. Eddie Leopard will officiate. Burial will be in Glebe Cemetery, New Castle, Del.
Mrs. Gooden was a native of Wilmington, Del. She had lived in the Aiken area since 1996. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, New Castle, and a member of the Rainbow Club and the Ozella Mauldin Sunday School class. She was the daughter of the late Harvy Thomas Shiles and Jennie Wenzell Shiles. She was the wife of the late Alfred Harris Gooden Sr.
Survivors include a daughter, Eleanor Gooden Bookstaver of Aiken; a son, Alfred H. Gooden of Berryville, Va.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Millbrook Baptist Church Building Fund, 176 E. Pine Log Road, Aiken, 29803.
The family will receive friends following the service.
The Rev. Eddie Key Sr., business owner
NORTH AUGUSTA - The Rev. Eddie Key Sr., of Mims Grove Church Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16 at Mims Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. G.L. Brightharp will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Key was a native of Aiken County. He was a member of Mims Grove Baptist Church. He was a pastor at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Edgefield, and the Pierce Grove Baptist Church, Martinez, Ga. He was the owner of Eddie Key & Sons Brick Contractors and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his mother, Mamie Daughtry; eight children, Lois K. Gaskins, Dorothy K. Wooden, Eddie Key Jr., Sylvester Key and Albert Key, all of North Augusta, Loretta K. Harris of Charlotte, N.C., Lorraine K. Williams of Trenton and Teresa K. Bowens of Hilton Head; 19 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the G.L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary, North Augusta, today after 1 p.m., or at the residence.
Thomas "Snipe" Roberson
WINDSOR - Thomas "Snipe" Roberson, 84, of Old Tory Trail Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home.
Mr. Roberson was a native of Wagener. He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, Oakwood, where he was a member of the deacon board.
Survivors include his wife, Viola Roberson of Windsor; a daughter, Christine Brooks of Windsor; an adopted son, James Stanley of Aiken; a sister, Bertie Mae Weaver of Aiken; a brother, Albert Roberson of Aiken; and a granddaughter.

Betty Jean Hicks
Betty Jean Hicks, 50, of Sumter Street, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home.
Ms. Hicks was a native of Aiken. She was a member of Montmorenci Baptist Church.
Survivors include her common-law husband, Raymond Jenkins of Aiken; two daughters, Katrina Hicks and Debbie Ann Hicks, both of Aiken; four sons, Shawn Hicks, Raymond Hicks, Calvin Hicks and Juvon Hicks, all of Aiken; four sisters, Pearlene Hicks, Alariya Blocker and Laura Hicks, all of Aiken, and Catherine Cross of Aiken; and nine grandchildren.

Magalene Stallings, former nursing home worker
HILTON HEAD - Magalene Stallings, 63, of Sandlewood Terrace, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Bayview Nursing Home, Beaufort.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home.
Ms. Stallings was a native of Barnwell County. She was a former resident of Inwood, N.Y., and was employed by the Far Rockaway Nursing Home, Far Rockaway, N.Y., for 20 years. She was a graduate of Martha Schofield High School and a member of the Second Baptist Church, Aiken.
Survivors include two daughters, Lori Ann Stallings and Kim Stallings, both of Hilton Head; two sisters, Sarah Tanksley of Aiken and Dorothy Stallings of Inwood, N.Y.; two brothers, James Albert Stallings of Aiken and Silas Stallings of Allendale; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the residence of her sister, Sarah Tanksley, 504 Washington Circle, Aiken.
Bennie F. Miles, Graniteville Co. employee
GRANITEVILLE - Bennie F. Miles, 58, of Gregg Street, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. at the Hampton Avenue Church of Christ, Aiken. Minister Sherman Offord will officiate.
Mr. Miles was a native of Seaboard, N.C. He was a former employee of the Graniteville Co. He was a member of the Hampton Avenue Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Annie J. Miles of Graniteville; a sister, Hazel Miles of Baltimore, Md.; and a brother, Walter Miles of Baltimore, Md.
