WARRENVILLE - The funeral service for Mr. James Clifford Baker of Warrenville will be conducted today at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with the Rev. Steven Hendricks officiating. The interment will follow in the Graniteville Cemetery.

Pearl Bates
Mrs. Pearl Bates of 500 Hampton Ave. NW, died Friday, March 4, 2005 at the Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Funeral services are to be Thursday, 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Anna Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alfred Holmes, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Anna-Mt. Harris Baptist Church Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish her memory three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at the residence of Jeanette Oliver, 940 Callihan Terrace, Aiken or at Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home beginning 2 p.m. Wednesday until noon. Thursday. The remains will lie in state at the church Thursday from 1:30 p.m. until the hour of service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m.

Entered into rest on Saturday, March 5, 2005, Mr. Leon Bonnette, of 820 Good Springs Road, Aiken. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Garvin Bonnette, a daughter, Ms. Annette Bonnette and granddaughter, Wanda Beach.
Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Cobb Weeks of Aiken; two sons, Billy Bonnette of Aiken and Larry Bonnette of Clearwater; a sister, Vivian Selfridge of Clearwater; two brothers, Elmer O. Bonnette of Clarksville, Ga., and Blanchard Bonnette of Warrenville; nine grandchildren, Tiffany Coleman, Tanya Odom, Tammy Ballentine, Michael Bonnette, Marty Ellis, Ross Craven, Renee Hutto, Diane Pilot and Gene Weeks Jr., and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. in the Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Elmer Bonnette and Chaplin Kathy Cole officiating. Interment will be in Graniteville Cemetery.

BATH - Entered into rest on Friday, Mrs. Ruth Robinson Bridges, formerly of Augusta Road, Bath. She was the wife of the late Mr. Ansel "Bo" Bridges and the mother of the late Mr. Jerry Robinson.
Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Robinson will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

WARRENVILLE - The funeral service for Thomas "Bob" Cushman of Warrenville will be conducted tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel of Napier Funeral Home with the Revs. Bobby Broach and Dr. W.C. Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until the hour of service. The burial will be private. Carl Arthur Dyche
Carl Arthur Dyche, 66, of Aiken, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 at his residence. Services will be held Wednesday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at South Aiken Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. John L.Frye Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Historic Bethany Cemetery. He was born in Martinsburg, W.Va., to the late Earl Brooke and Laura Elva Ward Dyche. He was employed by DuPont and Westinghouse SRS. He was a member of South Aiken Presbyterian Church, where he served in the church choir, and was also a member of the Lions Club. He is survived by his wife, Loretta Flowers Dyche; one son, Richard H. and Lynda Dyche, Aiken; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Dyche, Edisto Island; three brothers, James Dyche and Gary Dyche, Martinsburg, Donald Dyche, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; three sisters, Pearilee Greenfield, Bunker Hill, W.Va., Wanda Church, Martinsburg and Mary Fields, Bunker Hill, W.Va. Memorials may be sent to Hitchcock Hospice, Aiken, or South Aiken Presbyterian Church, 1711 Whiskey Road, Aiken. Pallbearers will be Doug Flowers, Mike Kilmer, Richard Dyche, Scott Butts, Daryl Perry, Philip Lockard and Denny Weeks. Jean Almeter Ebenhack
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Jean Almeter Ebenhack will be celebrated Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be this evening, from 6 to 8 p.m. at George Funeral Homes Historic Downtown Chapel 211 Park Ave. SW Aiken.
Mrs. Ebenhack, 83, of Aiken, died Saturday, March 5, 2005, at her residence. Born in Kenmore, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Carl & Hazel (Adams) Almeter.
She spent most of her life as a devoted wife and mother, but did work for the Army Corps of Engineers as the secretary to Commanding General Mathias on the "Manhattan Project." She was a volunteer docent for the Aiken County Historical Museum and used to volunteer at Aiken Elementary School, helping children learn to read. Jean was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Church and had been responsible for caring for the altar cloths for more than 37 years. She was also a member of the Wildwood Garden Club and the Academy of Lifelong Learning at USC Aiken.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Don G. Ebenhack, Aiken; two sons, David (Rebecca) Ebenhack, Raleigh, N.C., and Peter (Julie) Ebenhack, Westminster; a daughter; Ellen (Robert) Miller, Aiken; a sister, Eleanor Almy, Denver, Colo.; and seven grandchildren, Eben, Zeke, Travis, Meredith, Sarah, Johnathon and Vivian.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to the Aiken County Historical Museum 433 Newberry St. SW, Aiken, SC 29801.

Mrs. Susie Jane Poole Hallman, 81, entered into rest Sunday March 6, 2005. Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m., in the Wagener Chapel of Blizzard Funeral Home. Perth Joseph Oakman Jr.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Mr. Perth Joseph Oakman Jr., (also known as PJ), 71, of 3800 14th St., Washington, D.C. died Thursday, March 3, 2005 at Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, Va.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Thankful Grove Baptist Church, Windsor with the Rev. Freddie Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the White Pond Society Hall Cemetery, White Pond.
He was the son of the late Perth J. Oakman Sr. and the late Cora Lee Oakman. A native of Windsor, he lived in Washington, D.C. for the past 41 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and Army. He was a retired bartender, working with the Fort Myers Officers Club in Arlington, Va. He was a former member of the Cumberland AME Church, Aiken.
He leaves to cherish his memory four grandchildren, Christina D. Oakman and Esther Patterson, both of Aiken, Mary A. Oakman, Columbia, and Delores Thomas, Greer; two sisters-in-law, Ora Lee Durham and Ola Mae Oakman, Aiken; great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends at the Twin Oaks Apartments in Washington, D.C. and Fort Meyers' Officers Club in Arlington, Va.
Friends may call at the residence of Willie Campbell, 1136 Old Barnwell Road, Aiken, or at the Jackson-Brooks Funeral Home beginning 2 p.m. Wednesday until 12 p.m. Thursday. Sandra Thrailkill Vanput, 62, of Elgin, died Sunday.

Carrie Jordan
GRANITEVILLE - Miss Carrie Jordan of Graniteville, beloved daughter of Katie Dooley Black of Warrenville and Edward Jordan of Graniteville, entered into rest Saturday, March 12, 2005.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her fiance, Anthony Fail of Graniteville; her stepfather, Deryl Black of Warrenville; a son, Skylar Morris of Graniteville; a brother, Avery Jordan of Warrenville; maternal grandparents, Donnie and Teressa Dooley of Graniteville; paternal grandmother, Kaye Chavous and step-grandfather, Michael Chavous of Orangeburg.
She was born in Orangeburg, but was a lifelong resident of Aiken County. The funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, March 15, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Napier Funeral Home with the Rev. Quitman Hughes officiating. Interment will follow in the Black-Sanders Family Cemetery in Bath. The family will receive friends tonight, Monday, March 14, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Napier Funeral Home, 315 Main Street, Graniteville.
Mildred Leopard
GRANITEVILLE - Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Leopard of Graniteville, wife of the late Eugene L. Leopard Sr. and daughter of the late Russell Rinehart and the late Gracie Johnson Rinehart, entered into rest Saturday, March 12, 2005.
She is survived by two sons, Gene Leopard Jr. of Covington, Ga., and David Leopard of Marietta, Ga.; three grandsons, Marty, Joseph and Tim Leopard; a great-grandson, Reece Leopard; a sister, Frances Rearden of Graniteville; and a brother, C.A. Rinehart of Aiken.
She was born in Aiken County, where she spent most of her life, with the exception of a few years spent in Atlanta. She was a homemaker and a member of St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19, at 1:30 p.m. in St. John United Methodist Church in Graniteville with the Revs. Doug Gilliland and Paul Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in the Graniteville Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 15, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Napier Funeral Home.

Samuel Lawrence Soper Sr.
BATESBURG - Mr. Samuel Lawrence Soper Sr., 82, of Batesburg, died March 12 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shellhouse Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Padgett officiating. Interment will follow at Aiken Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Soper was born in Mercer County, Ky., to the late John C. and Millie Sherer Soper. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lola M. Trusty Soper, and second wife, Lois Brown Soper. He was retired from the U.S. Army, veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, Alcoholics Anonymous – Nov. 1964 to date, VFW Post No. 09539, American Legion Post No. 0172, AARP and The Retired Enlisted Association.
Survivors include his children, Beverly J. Soper Matthews of Forrest City, Ark., Samuel L. Soper Jr., Carl (Pete) Soper of Batesburg, Walter E. Soper of Hiram, Ga., David C. Soper of Augusta, Donald M. Soper of Woodruff, Kenneth W. Soper of Forrest City and Thomas A. Soper of Woodruff; 31 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cleo S. Buckhurst of Wittman, Ariz., Ruth S. Pickett of Rillito, Ariz., Zoe S. Goble, Betty S. Craft, Julia S. (Shug) Pegg of Richmond, Ind.; brother, Walter B. Soper of Richmond; step-daughter, Carla Hennett of Spartanburg; brother-in-arms, T.A. Willis; and special friends, Jimmy Walker, Mike Walker, George Glover and Brenda Glover Johnson.

Charles Dudley "Budd" Thompson Jr., 63, of Aiken, died March 13, 2005. Survivors include his wife, Linda Meyers Thompson; children, Amy and (Dave) Hull, Chad and (Jenay) Thompson, Sam and (Kim) Thompson, and Ben Thompson; three step-children, Melissa Murphy, Katie and (Tim) Mihal, and Justin and (Carie) Murphy. Marie Allen Odom
WARRENVILLE - Mrs. Marie Allen Odom, formerly of Warren Street, Warrenville, entered into rest on Saturday, March 12, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Burll Odom; three sisters, Irene Mauney, Richardeen Treadway and Gladys Allen; and a brother, Walter O. Allen.
Surviving are a daughter, Gaynelle Redd of Harlem, Ga.; four sons, Donnie Odom of Aiken, Richard Odom of Bath, Gerald Odom of Martinez, Ga., and Tim (Milford) Odom of Warrenville; a sister, Luticia Peacon of Warrenville; three brothers, James Allen of Greer, Bobby Allen and John "Buster" Allen both of Langley; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Odom was born in Langley to the late Walter J. and Pansy Walker Allen. She worked for 15 years with the S&S Cafeteria when it was on Broad Street. She was a member of Bath Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bill Branch and Joel Mundy officiating. Interment will be in Langley Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Rearden, Reggie Rearden, Russ Lewis, Ronald Odom, Chris Couvillon and Charlie Odom.

Margaret Valentine
Margaret "Big Ma" Valentine was born Nov. 7, 1927, in Aiken County, the daughter of Hezekiah and Carrie Chandler who preceded her in death.
She departed this life March 11, 2005, at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, at Ocean Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Anthony Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Hayden Baptist Church Cemetery.
She joined the Rock Hill Baptist Church at an early age and later became a member of the Ocean Grove Baptist Church, where she remained faithfully until her death. She was a member of the Ocean Grove Senior Choir and the Eastern Star.
She was united in holy wedlock to Perry Valentine, who preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory: seven daughters, Willie Mae Chandler, Marguerite Landy, Eleanor Valentine, Nettie Ruth Scott, Bobbie J. Valentine, all of Aiken, and Mildred Valentine and Beulah Valentine of North Augusta; one aunt, Cora Hall of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one son-in-law, three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
