MILDRED O. COLLINS
Services for Mildred O. Collins, 61, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel in Darlington, with burial in Black Creek Cemetery.
Mrs. Collins was born
in Darlington County and was the daughter of the late Wesley and Ethel Cagle. She was a member of the Dovesville Church of God and the things she enjoyed most were spending time with her family and working in her yard and garden.
Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her husband, Barney C. Collins.
She is survived by three sons, Charlie (Suzanne) Collins, Glen Collins and Harold (Dianne) Collins, all of Hartsville; one daughter, Anita (Ronnie) Gainey of Darlington; four brothers, Buddy Cagle, Bill Cagle and James Cagle, all of Hartsville and Larry Cagle of Patrick; three sisters, Bertha Gainey, Beatrice Bell and Frances Griggs, all of Hartsville; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
FRANCES P. KING
LAMAR – Graveside services for Frances P. King, 87, of Lamar, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, in Lamar Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Lamar United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 555, Lamar, S.C. 29069.
Mrs. King died Friday, Oct. 27, in a Camden hospital after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late James N. and Careen Lane Plummer. She was married
to the late Marvin King. Mrs. King was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. LaRue (Mary K.) Watson of Camden; a brother, Bud Plummer of Santee and four grandchildren.
JUANITA S. MELTON
Services for Juanita Stewart Melton, 97, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Carroll Pope officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Melton, widow of Winston Melton, died Friday, Oct. 27. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Mary Elizabeth Howell Stewart. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her two sons and daughter-in-law, Robert (Marlene) Melton of Oates and Hazel Melton of North Myrtle Beach; two daughters and son-in-law, Miriam Hall of Hartsville and Geraldine (J.L.) Clements of Lamar; sister, Grace Jeffords of Oates; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
GEORGE D. DALEY JR.
Services for George D. Daley Jr., 82, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at North Hartsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ladell Humphries and the Rev. Richard Bailey officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 1, at the Florence National Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Mr. Daley was born
in Augusta, Ga., a son of the late George D. Daley Sr. and Ruth Bell Daley. He was retired as a Chief Petty Officer from the U.S. Navy after 22 years of service, ETC, and later retired from the Civil Service. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War and was a member of the North Hartsville Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Leola Seigler Daley of Hartsville; two daughters, Mrs. Jane Turnage of Hartsville and Mrs. Joann Correll of Columbia; one son, George William Daley of Shreveport, La.; three brothers, Walter Daley of Augusta, Ga., Jimmy Daley of Goose Creek and Eddie Daley of Moncks Corner; three sisters, Joann Lackey of Camden, Virginia Payne of Charleston Heights and Grace Whitfield of Wadmalaw Island; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
LeROY CEASER JR.
Services for LeRoy 'Bubbie' Ceaser Jr. were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2000 at Kay Branch Baptist Church with burial in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Ceaser died Tuesday, Oct. 24, in a Charleston hospital after an extended illness. He was born
in the Bishopville area of Lee County, a son of Leroy Ceaser Sr. and the late Eva Dell McCaskill Ceaser. He was educated in Darlington County public schools, graduating with the Butler High School Class of 1970. He was married
to Mae Verna Ceaser and to this union three daughters were born. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where he served on the Usher Board and sang with the Bruce Singers. Mr. Ceaser later became a member of the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a trustee along with many other capacities in an effort to praise his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his wife, Mae Verna Ceaser of the home; his father, Leroy Ceaser Sr.; three daughters, Shonney Ceaser, Trena Ceaser and Latrissus Leach, all of Hartsville; four sisters, Patricia (Charles) Sanders of Richmond, Va., Jeanette Ceaser, Annette Cabbages-talk and Kristie Huggins, all of Hartsville; two brothers, Anthony Huggins and Timothy Huggins, both of Hartsville; one grandmother, Mamie McCaskill of Hartsville; two godchildren, Kimesha Davis and Utavia Haigler, both of Hartsville; four sisters-in-law, Betty (Sterling) Stausbury, Lula (Richard) Haigler, Patricia (Gabriel) Haigler, Dorothy (William) Alfred; three brothers-in-law, Laverne (Jaretta) Bruce, Eddie (Valarie) Wright and Kenny (Anita) Bruce; a special friend, Joseph Woodham; six grandchildren; and a host of close relatives and very dear friends.
JULIAN DICKERSON SR.
DARLINGTON – Graveside services for Julian R. Dickerson Sr., 60, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in Grove Hill Cemetery in Darlington directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.
Mr. Dickerson died Friday, Oct. 27, in a local hospital after an illness. He was the husband of Joyce B. Dickerson.
He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Atney Lee and Margaret Rhodes Dickerson. He attended Darlington public schools and was a member of the St.
David's Masonic Lodge #72. He was employed with Consolidated Frieght-ways as a driver salesman. He planned to retire at the end of this year after nearly 40 years of trucking. Mr. Dickerson was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include one son, Julian R. (Kelley) Dickerson; two daughters, Cynthia L. Dickerson and Paula D. (Mark) Stokes; one grandson, Rhodes Dickerson III, all of Darlington; three brothers, Charles E. Dickerson and Leon R. Dickerson, of Darlington and Atney L. Dickerson of Bell Vernon, Pa.; one sister, Margaret A. Chaplin of Darlington; two special nieces, Rebecca Moody and Jane M.Lloyd, both of Darlington and many other nieces, nephews and cousins, in-laws and friends.
Mr. Dickerson was predeceased by two brothers, William M. Dickerson and Richard T. Dickerson.
MARGARET HARRELL
Services for Margaret Bryant Harrell, 78, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Nov. 1, 2000, at the Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Kenneth Hood will officiate with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 181 E. Evans St., Suite 206, Florence, SC 29506.
Mrs. Harrell, widow of Leonard A. Harrell, died Sunday, Oct. 29. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Junie Anderson and Bessie Carnelia Sexton Bryant. She was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are her two sons and daughter-in-law, James Leonard Harrell of Rockport, Texas, Robert Alvin (Leanna) Harrell of Devine, Texas; three brothers, A.P. Bryant of Hartsville, Ralph Bryant of Pensacola, FL, Boardman Bryant of Lamar; two sisters, Doris Huggins of Pensacola, Fla., Harriet Morrell of Hartsville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
CARETHA PASSMORE
DARLINGTON – Services for Caretha Crim 'Kitty' Passmore were held at 12 noon, Oct. 28, 2000, in New Providence Baptist Church with burial following in Hoodfield Cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home of Darlington.
Mrs. Passmore died Thursday, Oct. 26, at her residence after an illness. Born in Hawthorne, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Pearl and Archie Crim. She attended the Florida public schools. She received her BS degree from Bowie State University and did further graduate work at Loyola College, Morgan State University, John's Hopkins University and Coppin State University to earn a master's equivalence. For about 30 years she taught in the public schools of Frederick County and Baltimore City. After moving to Darlington in 1991 with her companion, Willie Jackson, she joined New Providence Baptist Church under the pastorate of the Rev. Coleman Cannon Sr. where her membership remained until her death.
Survivors include a son, Bernard (Deborah) Davis of Baltimore, Md.; four grandchildren, Anita, Robert, Bernard and Gerald, all of Baltimore, Md.; 16 great-grandchildren; special nephew, Theodore Jackson; other nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends, Fannie Hudson, Marie Bacote and Margie Dickerson.
RAELINE JAI S. JOHNSON
DARLINGTON – Services for Mrs. Raeline Jai Small Johnson were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2000, in the Pee Dee United Elks Lodge No. 1679. Burial followed in Cooper Cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home Inc. of Darlington.
Mrs. Johnson, 31, died on Saturday, Oct. 21, at the home of her parents. She was born
in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of James Small and Rosemary Skinner Small.
She attended the Darlington County public schools and was a graduate of St. John's High School Class of 1987 and continued her studies at Florence-Darlington Technical College. She was married
to Ronald Johnson of Edgefield. After leaving S.C. she traveled extensively. Later moving to Philadelphia, Pa., where she began her recording career. There, she recorded and produced numerous CD's. Her recording name was RaEven BLU.
Survivors include her father and stepmother, James and Edith Small of Darlington; three children, Queenie Mayon Johnson, Quanytta Johnson and Oya Oshumari 'Rainbow' Esspirit; two brothers, Anthony (Terri) Small of Randallstown, Md., and Leland Small of Darlington; her paternal grandparents, Herbert Small (Margaret Small, deceased) of Darlington; two aunts, Peggy Windley and Donna Laviscount, both of Darlington; two uncles, Kevin and Keith Small, deceased; two nieces, Jeri and Mykeia; one nephew, Travonta; two special cousins, ZenoBia Small and Michael Laviscount; a host of other cousins; a special friend, Yolanda Knox; other relatives and friends.
ROSA L. JACKSON
DARLINGTON – Services Rosa Lee Wilson Jackson will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, in New Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Daniels officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jackson died Sunday, Oct. 29, at Carolina Hospital System after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late James and Louise Harrison Wilson. She was a graduate of Rosenwald High School and a member of New Hopewell Baptist Church.
Surviving are four daughters, Doretha (Junior) Bush, Elder Mary (Jerome) George and Mae Jane (Jessie) Dudley, all of Darlington and Pauline Jackson of Irvington, N.J.; three sons, Willie (Loretta) Jackson of Bridgeport, Conn., John (Diane) David and Edward (Vernetta) Davis of Newark, N.J.; three sisters, Serina Dixon of Burlington, N.J., Fannie Mae Zimmerman of Baltimore, Md., and Mary Jane (Walter) Tedder of Hartsville; four brothers, James Wilson of New York, N.Y., Freddie Wilson of Hartsville, Roosevelt Wilson of Burlington, N.J., and Robert James of Hampton, Conn.; 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
