SOCIETY HILL – Funeral services for Randy Carroll Keith, 47, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Welch Neck Baptist Church with the Revs. Tom Rutan and John Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Creek Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel.
Mr. Keith died Sunday, Jan. 20. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of Eliose Oakley Hicks and the late Clarence Monroe Keith. He was employed with J.A. Jones Co.
Surviving are his mother of Society Hill; two brothers, Clarence Alvin Keith of Bleaton, Va., and Larry D. Keith of Society Hill; three sisters, Everlyn J. Adams of Darlington; Melinda K. Hall and Judy K. Hall, both of Society Hill; two step-brothers, Joe Moree of Hartsville and Henry Moree of Society Hill; two step-sisters, Betty J. James and Shirley M. Freeman, both of Cash.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas H. Keith.

EVA K. ODOM
DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Eva K. Odom, 89, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment followed in Darlington Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Odom, wife of Alston Odom, died Saturday, Jan. 19, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Liston and Bannie Knotts. She was employed by Nytronics for a number of years and was a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church.
Surviving are seven sons, Hubert Odom, Weldon Odom, Bobby Odom, Barry Odom Lee Odom and Dusty Odom, all of Darlington, Danny Odom of Latta; two daughters, Margie Dennis and Myrna Asaro, both of Darlington; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
JANIE MAE GANDY
DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Janie Mae Edwards Gandy were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, in Round O Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael McMillian, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gandy died Thursday, Jan. 17, in a Columbia hospital after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late, Willie and Alma Sawyer Edwards. She was the widow of Henry Gandy Jr. She attended the Darlington County public schools and was a life member of Round O Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving include two daughters, Rosemary (Larry) Bailey of Columbia and Janice Gandy Preston of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Larry (Gloria) Gandy of Darlington and Teddie Gandy of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Alma Edwards of Darlington; four brothers, James Edwards of Darlington, Eugene (Clara) Edwards of Society Hill, Marion Edwards of Florence and Robert (Ann) Edwards of Connecticut; six grandchildren, Livanga Gandy, NahShann Hudson, Nickoles Hudson, all of Charlotte, N.C., Amber Gandy and Jhameka Johnson, both of Darlington and Larry Gandy Jr. (deceased); three great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Carrie Lee Johnson; nieces and nephews.
The family is receiving friends at the residence, 209 W. McIver Road, Darlington.
WILLIAM CARL TEAL
Funeral services for William Carl Teal, 83, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Brown Springs Baptist Church. Burial was in the church cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Mr. Teal died Friday, Jan. 18. He was born
in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Lee and Rosa Gainey Teal.
Surviving are his wife, Aileen Huggins Teal of Hartsville; two sons, William Harvey (Bennie Lou) Teal of Hartsville and Buck (Bernice) Teal of Patrick; four daughters, Helen (J.D.) Perdue, Ethelene Tyner, Evelyn (Larry) Hemminger, all of Patrick, and Peggy (Roy) Hill of Society Hill; one step-son, James (Betty) Adams of Atlanta, Ga.; three step-daughters, Mildred Lunn, Jeanette (Wayne) Gainey, Jewel (Jimmy) Campbell, all of Hartsville; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Hobie Tyner Teal; a daughter, Louise Teal; a sister, Amanda Teal and a grandson, William Coleman Teal.

CHARLES E. HORTON SR.
Funeral services for Charles Edwin Horton Sr., 75, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Zion United Methodist Church in Pageland. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. The Revs. Billy Osborne and James Beck Jr. officiated.
Mr. Horton died Friday, Jan. 18. He was born
in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Vernie J. and Hattie Dunn Horton. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He was a Mason in Chesterfield County and was a member of Gideon International.
Surviving are a son, Charlie Horton of Pageland; a daughter, Judy Lyles of Hartsville; brother, Johnny Horton of Jefferson; a sister, Estelle Thompson of Columbus, Ga.; six grandchildren, Stacy Horton of Jefferson, Justin Lyles, Josh Lyles, Jordan Lyles, Jody Lyles, Jake Lyles, all of Hartsville; one great-grandchild, Zan Horton of Jefferson; dedicated special friend, Leroy Robinson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy J. Horton.

WILLIAM J. SWINEY
SOCIETY HILL – Funeral services for William J. Swiney, 79, were held at 2:30 p.m. in Bethesda Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Wilson, officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Swiney died Thursday, Jan. 17, at his residence after an apparent heart attack. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Henry and Dicy Timmons Swiney. He was educated in Darlington County public schools. Mr. Swiney was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Marie Williams Swiney of Society Hill; a daughter, Ethel Swiney Ellis of East Orange, N.J.; three sons, Ronald Swiney of Peachtree City, Ga., Guy (Jo Ann) Swiney and Craig (Yolanda) Swiney, both of Mountclair, N.J.; three sisters, Alma Hackett and Gladys Watkins, both of Montclaire, N.J., and Ethel Gillian of Mechanicsville, Va.; two brothers, Edward Swiney of Bloomfield, N.C., and Gordan Swiney of Irvington, N.J.; an uncle, Robert (Ruth) McCall of Cheraw; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.

DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Louise Hatchell Gray, 71, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 25, 2002, at High Hill Baptist Church with interment following in the church Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gray died Tuesday evening in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born
in Florence County, the daughter of the late Calvin Hartwell and Annie Timmons Hatchell. She was a member of High Hill Baptist Church and involved in many civic organizations.
Surviving are her husband, Rupert Gray of the home; three sons, Al (Margee) Gray of Chester and Calvin (Mary) Gray and Robbie Gray, both of Darlington; five grandchildren, one sister, Frances Hatchell of Florence; and one brother, John (Linda) Hatchell of Darlington.
DELTA LANSFORD
Memorial services for Delta Lansford, 67, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John Smith will officiate at the service.
Mrs. Lansford died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002. Born in Marifield, Mo., she was a daughter of the late David and Rebecca Bennett Ellis.
Surviving are son, Delsmar Simpson of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Nyla L. and Doodle Flowers of Hartsville, and Twyla L. West of Port Aransus, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Steen Holmes, 73, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.
BETTY ANN TALBERT
DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Betty Ann Talbert, 40, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 25, 2002, in the Mitchell Josey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerome Gee officiating.
Miss Talbert died Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Darlington. She was born
in Washington, D.C., a daughter of the late Essie Mae Gee Haynes and the late Jimmy Talbert. She received her formal education in the Darlington County public schools and attended The Hope Christian Center in Darlington.
Survivors include two children, Bettina Talbert and Tyon Alonzo Talbert of Darlington; two sisters, Mrs. Carolyn (James) Smith of Darlington and Mrs. Barbara (Bernard) Davidson of Statesville, N.C.; a brother, Ernest Bacote of New York; two aunts, Mrs. Lillie Mae (Jack) Lunn of Darlington and Ms. Rosa Lane of East Elmhurst, N.Y.; nieces; nephews and cousins. A brother, Willie Gee, preceded her in death.
The family is receiving friends at the home of a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and James Smith, 305 Pineville Road., Darlington.
