JAMES A. FEAGIN
Graveside services for James A. Feagin, 30, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at Wells Cemetery, directed by Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home in Bishopville.
Mr. Feagin died Wednesday, Jan. 23, at the Medical Center in Columbus, Ga. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Fred Feagin and Thelma Hill Feagin.
Surviving are his parents of Hartsville; a sister, Tracey Barrineau of Turbeville; a brother, Christopher Feagin of Spartanburg; two uncles, William Feagin and Buddy (Peggy) Hill of Hartsville.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, Friday, at the funeral home.
SARA L. GRIGGS
Funeral services for Sara Layton Griggs, 78, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at the Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Swilley officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. Visistation will be tonight, Friday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Griggs died Thursday, Jan. 24. She was born
in Spartanburg County, a daughter of hte late Frank B. and Alene Taylor Layton. She taught for 30 years in the Darlington County public schools and St. David's Academy in Society Hill. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Ms. Jimmelyn Griggs of York, S.C.; two sisters, Carol Spracklen and Dorothy King, both of Camarillo, Calif.; a brother, C. H. Layton of Union. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Harrell Griggs.

SHEP HAMRICK
Graveside services for Leander Shepard "Shep" Hamrick, 76, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, in Sunset Memorial Cemetery, Shelby, N.C. The Rev. John Boggs will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to the West Hartsville Baptist Church or Wake Forest University.
Mr. Hamrick, widower of Mildred Marang Hamrick, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002. Born in Goldsboro, N.C., he was a son of the late Otto Vetus and Carolyn Mayes Hamrick. He grew up in Shelby, N.C., graduated from Shelby High School, and in 1950 graduated from Wake Forest University, just as his father had done before him in 1910. He served as a tail gunner on a "Liberator" bomber during World War II. He had many great achievements during his 35 years with the Ralston Purina Company and provided leadership in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, and South Carolina prior to his retirement in 1985 as District Manager.
Lovingly known as "Big Shep", he was a devoted family man who knew and loved the Lord and regularly attended West Hartsville Baptist Church. He enjoyed sports, especially Wake Forest Demon Deacon sports, gardening, boating, hunting, fishing, and animals, and in his earlier days he was an avid horseman. It could be said of Shep that he never met a stranger and he had a knack for making people feel his warmth with his bright smile, booming voice, and big, gentle hands. He was endearingly called "DooDaddy" by his grandchildren and taught each one to say "I'm my DooDaddy's buddy!" We will all miss our big buddy.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Shep and Martha Hamrick of Shelby, N.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Bart Norwood of Hartsville, Marilynn and Harry Ware of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Amanda Hamrick, Street Hamrick, JoAnna Hamrick, Sarah Lynn Norwood, Barrett Norwood, Amelia Norwood, Henry Ware, Shep Ware, Robert Ware; and a beloved friend, Elsie Allen Byrd of Hartsville. He was predeceased by brother, O. V. Hamrick, Jr., and his sisters, Kathleen Hamrick Davis and Sarah Lee Hamrick Kiser.
KENNETH E. PAULHUS
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. –; A memorial service for Kenneth E. Paulhus, 41, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Jan. 30, 2002, at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Va.
Mr. Paulhus passed away Saturday, Jan. 26. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lila J. Paulhus. He is survived by his wife, Debra L. Paulhus, two stepsons, Casey Gustafson, Eric Gustafson; father, Joseph "Gerry" Paulhus; two brothers, Gerard Paulhus, Michael Paulhus.
BEATRICE MELTON
Funeral Services for Beatrice P. Melton, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Mrs. Melton died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002. Born in Cheraw, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin (Barry) Oliver and Janie Roscoe Peavy.
Surviving are her husband, James H. Melton Sr. of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, James H. and Alice Melton Jr., William A. (Tony) and Joyce Melton, Phillip Eugene Melton, Curtis (Mike) and Deborah Melton all of Hartsville; sisters, Henrietta M. STEVEN T. HILL
Funeral services for Steven T. Hill, 56, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, from the Lakeview Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Boswell officiating. Burial was in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Hill died Saturday, Jan. 26. He was born
in Texas, a son of the late Herman E. and Evelyn Younger Hill. He was retired from Henderson ACE Hardware, a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are his wife, Harriet Cook Hill of Hartsville; two brothers and sisters-in law, Edward Lynn and Barbara Hill of Houston, Texas, and John Martin (J.M.) and Adell (Dell) Hill of Hartsville; and several nieces and nephews.
JAMES H. HODGE
CHESTERFIELD – Funeral services for James Harold Hodge, 56, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, in Shiloh United Methodist Church with interment in the church Cemetery, directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.
Mr. Hodge died Friday, Jan. 25. He was born
in Hartsville, a son of the late James Newton and Flora Jane Elizabeth Keith Hodge. He was a retired foreman with Sonoco Products Co., and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Mr. Hodge was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church, where he served as a former chairman and trustee and member of the cemetery committee.
Surviving are his wife, Susan Gaskins Hodge of the home; one son, James Douglas Hodge of Columbia; two daughters, Sherry Hodge Cross and husband, Howard, of Florence, and Christel Hodge of Chesterfield; one precious granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth Cross of Florence and special friend, Daniel T. Davidson of Chesterfield.
Mr. Hodge was preceded in death by two brothers, B.E Hodge and Johnny Carroll Johnson.

EDWARD C. JEFFORDS
DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Edward C. Jeffords, 68, were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Darlington. Interment followed in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Jeffords died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2002, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born
in Lee County, the son of the late Carroll Jeffords and Mary Howell Jeffords Skinner. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a retired truck driver for Standard Trucking and Green Trucking. Mr. Jeffords attended First Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Weatherford Jeffords of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Edward Anthony "Tony" and Jeannine Jeffords of Hartsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela "Angie" and Darwin Seago also of Hartsville; three grandchildren, Ashley Michelle Seago, Jennifer Nicole Seago, and Caston Hyatt Jeffords; two brothers, Howell (Katherine) Jeffords of Darlington and Alan (Karen) Jeffords of Beckley, W.V.; and a sister, Mary Carolyn Menasco of Darlington.

JAMES M. GARDNER SR.
MYRTLE BEACH – Funeral services for James Madison Gardner Sr., 76, formerly of Hartsville, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002, at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. John F. Evatt and the Rev.Thomas N. Brittain officiating. Burial followed at Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery, directed by McMillan-Small Funeral Home.
Mr. Gardner died Wednesday, Jan. 23, at his residence. He was born
April 27, 1925 in Hartsville, a son of the late Sid Kelly and Loucelle Gwin Gardner. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach where he was a former chairman of the official board, a graduate of Hartsville High School and Clemson University where he earned an Industrial B.S. degree. Mr. Gardner was head of Industrial Engineers at AVX Corporation from 1952-1956, Management of Analysis at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base from 1956-1972, owner of the Florentine Motel and Cypress Creek Development Corporation. He was an Army veteran where he was involved in the construction of air strips, bridges, and buildings. He was a former president of the Myrtle Beach Jaycees, member of the Myrtle Beach Rotary Club, former board member of the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce. He was a founder, board chairman, and 37-year member of the Waccamaw Center for Mental Health.
He is survived by his children, Patsy Alexander, and her children, Wiley, Madison, and Haley of Myrtle Beach, Cathy Gaither and husband Bill and children, McMillan, Will and Kristin, of Myrtle Beach, Matt Gardner and wife Heidi of Sedona, Ariz., Gwin McKinnon and husband Mike and children, Kady, Patrick and Sidney of Myrtle Beach; a brother, Bill Gardner of Ninety Six; a sister, Jane G. Hunter of Clemson. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Sid King Gardner of Camden.

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Mrs. Adele Patricia Zinnermon Williams, daughter of the late Purcell and Alma Zinnermon of Hartsville, died on Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at her New York residence after a sudden illness. Local arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Wallace Hart, 83, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, in Kellybelle United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Hart died Friday, Jan. 25, in Carolinas Hospital System after an illness. He was born
Sept. 8, 1918, in Lee County, a son of the late Jessie and Lutish Hart. He was a member of Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church and attended Kellybelle United Methodist Church. Mr. Hart had a daughter, Nancy Blakney, that preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Pensacola Davis Hart of Hartsville; two daughters, Pennie McMullen of Edgemoor, S.C., and Ruth Butler of Washington, D.C.; five sons, James Hart and Wallace Hart Jr., both of Hartsville, Larry Hart of Charlotte, N.C., Bobby Hart and Rufus Hart, both of New York, N.Y.; two brothers, Jessie Hart of New York, N.Y., and Willie Hart of Philadelphia, Pa.; 22 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Hart of New York, N.Y.; two sons-in-law, Odell McMullen of Edgemoor, S.C., and Johnny Blakney of Hartsville; a host of nieces, nephews and other close relatives and friends.
