HAZEL PARK, Mich. – Funeral services for Ronald Dwayne Evans, 20, were held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Ashley-Scott Funeral Home, Hazel Park with burial in White Chapel Memorial Cemetery, Troy.
Mr. Evans died Saturday, Jan. 19, at St. John Oakland, Madison Heights. He was born
March 7, 1981, in Royal Oak. He attended Hazel Park High School. He was employed as a window cleaner for Commercial Window Co. of Detroit.
Mr. Evans is survived by his fiance, Tracy Thompson of Hazel Park; children, Hailey of Sterling Heights, Mich., and Tyler of Hazel Park; mother, Kathy Barefoot of Hartsville; father, Gardy Warner of Warren, Mich.; maternal grandparents, Ronald and Mable Evans of Hazel Park; and siblings, Shonda Howell of Hartsville, Mark Flowers of Hartsville and William Gainey of Conway.
DANIEL A. MORRISON
MORRISON, FLA. - A memorial service for Daniel Alexander (Sandy) Morrison Jr., 62, will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. James Jennings officiating. Mr. Morrison's request for cremation will be honored following the service.
Mr. Morrison died Sunday, Feb. 3. He was born
in Hartsville and moved to Jacksonville in 1960. He was a veteran of the US Naval Air Force and retired.
He is survivied by his wife of 33 years, Louise Morrison; sons, Daniel Alexander Morrison III and Robert Christopher Morrison; brother, Fredrick Powell Morrison; sister, Elizabeth Morrison Jones; six grandchildren and other family members.
A special thanks to the staff at Tandem of Orange Park, Fla., for their wonderful care and many kindnesses extended to the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Asbury United Methodist Church Benevolent Fund.
DONNIE LEE CROWLEY
Graveside services for Donnie Lee Crowley Sr., 52, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2002, at Florence National Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Crowley died Friday, Feb. 1. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late John Henry and Mary Mims Crowley. He was a retired truck driver and a Vietnam veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Lois Boykin Crowley of Hartsville; two sons, Donnie Lee Crowley Jr. and Donald Crowley, both of Hartsville; two daughters, Felicia Hammer of Biscoe, N.C., and Donna Faye Crowley of Hartsville; two sisters, Ann Tyner of Hartsville and Janice Oneal of Starr, N.C.; one step-daughter, Gwene Flowers of Lugoff; and five grandchildren.
CLARENCE BESS
DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Clarence "J.C." "Lighting" Bess, 67, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Jackie Boyd, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Hart #2 Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home of Darlington.
Mr. Bess died Wednesday, Jan. 30, in a local hospital after an illness. He was born
in Lee County, a son of Tressie Lee Wilson Bess and the late Louis Bess. He attended the Lee County and New York City public schools. He was a member of Center Baptist Church where he served on the Celestial Choir and with the Boy Scouts. He worked various jobs during his working experience, his last employment was as an Orderly at Wilson Hospital, and he was employed at Clanton's Auto Sales.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Tressie Lee Bess of Darlington; his wife, Mrs. Bernetha H. Bess of Darlington; a daughter, Ms. Tyrell Bess, of Darlington; two grandchildren, Ariel and Tyler; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth B. Wilds and Mrs. Patricia Ann Jackson, both of Darlington; three brothers, Roosevelt Bess of Wilmington, N.C., Nathan (Rosetta) Bess of Lynchburg and John M. (Anna) Bess of Darlington; aunts, uncles; sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

DARLINGTON - Graveside funeral services for Randall F. Strickland, 55, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2002, in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Strickland died Monday, Feb. 4, after an illness. Mr. Strickland, a former dry wall installer, was born
in Darlington, the son of Jeannette Pope Strickland and the late James Eugene Strickland. He was a member of Temple Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Florence are a daughter, Debra Cooker of Sumter; three grandchildren, Katie Cooker, Aaron Cooker and Cody Cooker; five sisters, Annie Bell Stokes, Geraldine Fisher and Vendetta Chapman, all of Darlington, Elsie Johnson of Hartsville and Loretta Boggs of Richwood, W.V. and a brother, Harold Strickland of Darlington.
The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

DARLINGTON – Patricia L. Bryant, 54, of Darlington, died Tuesday in a Florence hospital after an illness. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Belk Funeral Home.

DARLINGTON – Funeral services for Patricia Lavon Bryant, 54, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Morven Cemetery in Morven, N.C., at 3 p.m.
Mrs. Bryant died Tuesday, Feb. 5, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born
in Marlboro County, the daughter of the late Sherman and Ollie Rogers Robinson. She was an employee of Sherman Manufacturing for a number of years.
Surviving are a son, Harvey Eugene Rivers of Columbia; two daughters, Cheryl Dean Rivers of Society Hill and Mrs. Kam (Donna Bryant) Harrell of Darlington; three grandchildren, Eugene Freeman, Kamry Bryant Harrell, and Austin Harrell; a brother, Bobby Robinson of Georgia; and two sisters, Gertrude Roller of Lexington, N.C., and Margie Shaw of Cheraw.

LAMAR – Funeral services for Ernestine Tallon Joye Walker, 91, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at Lamar United Methodist Church. Interment followed in Newman Swamp Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.
Mrs. Walker died Saturday, Feb. 2, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born
in Lee County, the daughter of the late Clarence Hugh and Lula Irene Parnell Tallon. She was married
to the late James L. Joye and to the late Edwin L. Walker. Mrs. Walker worked as a postal clerk for 26 years before her retirement. She was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church and the Bernie Sue Sunday School class and Bessie Jeffords Circle of the church.
Surviving are two sons, Robert E. (Gloria) Joye of Lamar and James W. (Peggy) Joye of Hartsville; three step-sons, Lamar Walker and Melvin Walker, both of Bishopville, and Robert M. Walker of Lexington; one step-daughter, Ellen W. McKaig of Columbia; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

SWANSEA – Graveside funeral services for Ralph Emmett Brown Jr., 44, were held at 12 noon Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, in Lake City Memorial Park, directed by Brockington Funeral Home of Lake City.
Mr. Brown died Tuesday, Jan. 29, at his residence after an illness. He was born
in Florence, a son of Brooksie Daniels Bowen and the late Ralph Emmett Brown Sr. He was employed with Best Auto Sales of North, S.C.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Williams Brown of Swansea; two sons, Daniel Emmett Brown and Tyler Luke Brown, both of Swansea; his mother, Brooksie D. Bowen, and step-father, T. H. Bowen of Hartsville; two sisters, Ann B. (Jason) Crowley and Susan Brown, both of Hartsville; one brother, Carl Lyle (Winnie) Brown of Hartsville; five nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Troy and Addie Daniels, and his paternal grandparents, Lev W. and Julia Brown.

Funeral services for Diane D. O'Neal, 52, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church. The Rev. Buddy Jones will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. O'Neal, wife of Ted O'Neal, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of Buck A. Dixon and the late Margaret Freeman Dixon. She was a member of Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Ted O'Neal of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Todd and Stacie Weldon of Patrick, two step-children, Johnny O'Neal of Orangeburg and Chrystal O'Neal of Beaufort; daughter and son-in-law, Angela W. and Eddie Tiller of Hartsville; father of Hartsville; brothers, Donnie L. Dixon of Daytona Beach, Fla., Richard Dixon of Hartsville, Danny Ray Dixon of Patrick; and five grandchildren.
LOUISE AMIS SMITH
GREENVILLE – Ms. Louise Amis Smith, 34, granddaughter of the late Richard Gay and Tuck Amis Coker of Hartsville, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, in Greenville after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2002, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1925 Pelham Rd., Greenville. The family requests that no flowers be sent. Memorials may be made to the Christopher Reeve Foundation.
Ms. Smith was the daughter of Ellison D. Smith III and Louise Coker Ewing. She attended Christ Church School and was a graduate of Wade Hampton High School and Winthrop College.
Surviving are her parents; brother, Ellison D. Smith IV; sisters, Adelia Tuck Oliva and Laura Grove.
