Services for Marie G. Griggs, 93, will be held at 5 p.m. today, July 21, 2000, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Homer Hinson and Ed Griggs officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Griggs, widow of Frontus Clio Griggs, died Wednesday, July 19. Born in Darlington County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Alexander and Letha Mixon Gainey. She was the oldest member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church and for many years the caretaker of the church. After the death of her husband, she was in charge of the cemetery for many years. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Ernest R. and Mary Dell Griggs of Bishopville; daughters and son-in-law, Margaret and Robert Winburn of Hartsville and Virginia Barfield of Patrick; 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by sons, Curtis and Hollis Griggs.

Surviving are her parents of the home; one sister, Priscilla Shorter (Roy L.) Bowers of Hartsville; two nieces, Kathryn Bowers (Chris) Wells of Weston Fla. and Celeste Bowers (Joel) Harris of Hartsville; great niece, Katy Wells of Weston, Fla.; aunt and uncle, Travis W. and Dotsie Shorter of Florence.

Mrs. Gaskins, widow of Andrew Jackson Gaskins, died Tuesday, July 18. Born in Williamsburg County, she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Annie Louise Morris Walters. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church and Prospect United Methodist Women. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William A. (Bill) and Betty Gaskins of Hartsville; grandsons, Andy Gaskins of Hartsville, Byron Gaskins of Kingstree; great-granddaughter, Kayla Gaskins. She was predeceased by a son, Harl Gaskins.

Services for Christine Hayden Gainey, 70, will be held at 1 p.m. today, July 21, 2000, at the Clyde Church of God with Rev. Wallace Strickland officiating. Burial will be in the church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Gainey died Wednesday, July 19. Born in Shelby, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Royal Benjamin and Mary Etta Atkinson Hayden. She was a member of Clyde Church of God. Surviving are her husband, Baxter Gainey of Hartsville; four sons and daughter-in-law, Carrol and Kim Gainey, Wayne and Patsy Gainey, Don and Gail Gainey and Ben Gainey, all of Hartsville; three brothers, Frank Hayden of Norfolk, Va., Ernest Hayden of Ruby and Bobby Hayden of Hartsville; three sisters, Kathleen H. Cassidy, Zuline Fales, Frances Gainey, all of Hartsville; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Antrown "Head" Witherspoon (17) of Hartsville died on Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at his residence. Services were held at 1 p.m. on Satur-day, July 22, 2000, at Nazareth Apostolic Church in Centerville Community. Bishop V. M. Davis, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Hartsville. Antrown was born
in Hartsville, a son of Linda Witherspoon and Roscoe Brunson. He first attended Washington Street Elementary School, later Hartsville Junior High School and was currently a rising senior at Hartsville High School. "Head" as he was affectionately called was a member of the wrestling and track team for his school. He was currently working at BoSmith Furniture Company of Hartsville. Survivors in addition to his parents, are two sisters, Genella Witherspoon and LaTashia Witherspoon, both of Hartsville; brothers, Akeem Witherspoon and Dwayne Witherspoon, both of Hartsville; stepfather, Randy Jeffery; grandmother, Jannie Mae Brunson of Hartsville; aunts, Brenda Witherspoon, Ethel Brunson, Maggie Brunson and Stephinal Witherspoon, all of Hartsville; and uncles, Jerry (Dorothy) Witherspoon, Ricky Witherspoon, Isaac Moore, Lewis Brunson, all of Hartsville, and Ronnie Brunson of Darlington.

He was retired from Armour & Company and was a restaurant owner. Surviving are his wife of Jacksonville, Fla., daughters and son-in-laws, Beth (Robert) Bradley of Orange Park, Fla. and Lisa (Terry) Anderson of St. Augustine, Fla.; and six grandchildren.

Services for Margaret Nowlan Bedenbaugh, 53, were held at 4 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2000, from the chapel of Norton Funeral Home. Mrs. Bedenbaugh died July 21. Born in Guilford County, N.C., she was the daughter of Mary Elizabeth Fields and the late Dr. F. B. Nowlan. She was a member of PALS and Twitty United Methodist Church. Hoffman of Hartsville, three daughters, Carolyn (Charles) Walters of Camden, Judy Barr and Mirian Jean Bailey, both of Florence; three sisters, Edell Johnson, Mary Johnson and Eloise Bullard, all of Hartsville; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a daughter, Eunice Kissiah; a son, Bobby L. Hoffman and grandson, Tony L. Hopkins.

Adams of Hartsville; nieces, Vera Ann Griggs, Emily Diane Adams and Tyler Adams. She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph E. Griggs.
