Graveside services for Annie Segars Bullington, 83, will be held at 10 a.m. this morning, Aug. 9, 2000, in Magnolia Cemetery with Rev. Tom Swilley officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Bullington died Monday, Aug. 7. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Donaldson and Sudie Frances Segars. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Bullington was a retired nurse from Byerly Hospital with 35 years of service. Surviving are her husband, Luther V. Bullington of Hartsville; a son, Paul (Doris) Byrd; two daughters, Susan (Randy) Atkinson and Ann Gay and J.C. Till of Orangeburg; a sister, Edna Cohen of Orangeburg; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Grove C. Byrd.
BOBBY L. PERKINS
Services for Bobby Perkins, 65, were held Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 at 3 p.m. in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel. Internment followed at Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Mr. Perkins died Friday, Aug. 4, at his residence after an illness. He was born
in Darlington County and was the son of Flossie Mae Rhodes and the late Willie J. Perkins. He was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Bible Church of Darlington. Mr. Perkins loved animals and was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and racing. Survivors include his wife, Lydia C. Perkins, of the home; two sons, Boby L. Perkins, Jr, and Jolly L. Perkins, both of Darlington; one daughter, Thelma Marie Hammond of Calif.; four brothers, Bill Perkins and Benny Perkins of Darlington, Hoyt Perkins, and Harry Perkins of Florence and eight grandchildren. Services for Hollis H. Ingram, 80, were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 at New Providence Baptist Church. The Rev. Dale Broadway officiated with burial in church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family received friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to New Providence Baptist Church, 1884 Antioch Rd., Hartsville, S.C. 29550. Mr. Ingram died Friday Aug. 4. Born in Darlington County, S.C., he was a son of the late William Samuel and Carrie Edwards Ingram. He was a member of New Providence Baptist Church and was a retired truck driver and farmer. Surviving are his spouse, Helen Dougherty Ingram of Hartsville, S.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Zeta and Noel Johnson of Hartsville, S.C., Delenc and John Campbell of Hartsville, S.C., Jean and Lee Bristow of Greenville, S.C.; step-daughter and spouse, Lynn and Don Newsome; step-son and spouse, William and Kim Weaver, all of Hartsville; sisters and brother-in-law, Juanita Adams, Merrie Byrd, Jewel and Jimmy Millen, all of Hartsville, S.C.; grandchildren and their spouses, Mark Johnson, Bryan and Misty Campbell, Denise and John Owen, Susan Campbell, Vickie and Stevie King; step-grandchildren, Lad Weaver, Jenny Smith; step-great-grandchild, Austin Smith. Services for Stephinal (Sted) Witherspoon, 47, were 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, in Nazareth Apostolic Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home. Ms. Witherspoon died Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of Levern Wheeler Sr. and the late Magdeline McCray Witherspoon. She was a graduate of Butler High School Class of 1972. She leaves to cherish her most precious memories her father, Levern Wheeler; three daughters, Michelle Withers-poon, Shonta Witherspoon and Latoya Witherspoon, all of Hartsville; two sons, Stephen Lunnor and Christopher Lunnor, of Hartsville; two sisters, Linda Witherspoon and Brenda Witherspoon; three brothers, Elder Jerry (Dorothy) Witherspoon, Ricky Witherspoon and Levern Wheeler, all of Hartsville; three grandchildren, Quadeshia Witherspoon, Natayia Witherspoon and Zanobia Ross, all of Hartsville; two grandsons, Phozarik Witherspoon and Jokhil Ross, both of Hartsville; and a host of other close relatives and friends.

Services for Elease (James) Alford, of Lamar, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, 2000 in Emmanuel Community Church with pastor, Dr. Ralph Singleton, officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Lamar. Mrs. Alford was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late James and Annie Bell Enoch Slater. She attended Enoch Hill public school and was a member of Emmanuel Community Church, formerly Emmanuel AME Church for 40 years. She served on the Stewardess Board, Senior Choir Missionary Board as treasurer and the Usher Board. Mrs. Alford was formerly employed by Hanes Hosiery of Hartsville and with several local hospitals in the Pee Dee Area. In recent years, she was a site manager at her home, for the USDA free breakfast and lunch summer program. She is survived by six children, five daughters, Mary Ellen Brown of New York, N.Y., Susan D.Richard and Creola James, both of Queens, N.Y., Nora L. Green of Brooklyn, N.Y. and Anne A. Marshall of Columbia; one son, Henry James Alford Jr. of New York, N.Y; three sisters, Cora L. Burris of Hartsville, Fannie L. Mack of Long Island, N.Y. and Lerlene Martin of Columbia; eight brothers, Willie Slater of Paterson, N.J., James L.Slater of Tifton, N.J., Charles Slater of Brooklyn, N.Y., William Slater, Rudolph Slater, Eugene Slater, Larry Slater and Arthur Slater, all of Columbia; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services for Avedis Thomas Reid Jr., Richmond Shackelton Reid and Joseph Browning Reid II, beloved children of Avedis Thomas and Sarah Richmond Reid of Alexandria, Va., were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 23, at St. John’s Church, Lafayette Square, Washington, D.C. The children died on Friday, July 14, 2000, at Georgetown University Hospital. DUDLEY M. ZIMMERMAN
Services for Dudley Malone Zimmerman Sr. of Orangeburg, will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. George F. Manigo, officiating. Special memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. tonight, Aug. 11, at the church, directed by Bythewood Funeral Home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to South Carolina State University Education Foundation, Mabry Cancer Center, and Trinity United Methodist Church or any charity of one’s choice. Mr. Zimmerman died Aug. 9 at Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. He was born
in Hartsville on Sept. 5, 1910, the eldest of five children of the late William and Rosa Cooper Zimmerman. He attended elementary and high school at Butler High School and South Carolina State College Academy. In 1932, he received his bachelor of science degree in industrial education from South Carolina State University. He did further studies at New York University, Omaha University and Akron Ohio University. Earlier in his career, he taught at Allendale County Training School. In addition, he was principal of Jefferson High School in York, S.C., and of Granard High School in Gaffney, S.C. From 1938 to 1944, he served as Associate Professor of Mechanical Industries, and later served as acting Dean of Mechanical Arts at South Carolina State University and in 1947, became the first Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds of the University until he retired in 1973. Form 1960 to 1985, he was manager and treasurer of the Edisto Federal Credit Union. Past and present affiliations and community services include Basileus for two years and Keeper of Finance for 41 years for the Epsilon Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., membership of Edisto Lodge No. 39 F and AM PHA, a 32 degree Mason, treasurer of Jeddah Temple No. 160 for 20 years, chairman of Trinity United Methodist Church Board, chairman of the Board of Adjusters for the City of Orangeburg, chairman of the Orangeburg Law Enforcement Complex Commission, and member of the Board of Trustees for the Sunlight Club. Mr. Zimmerman was the recipient of several citations for dedicated services rendered to the Orangeburg Community, which also include Edisto Federal Credit Union, S.C. State University 1890 Extension Program, Orange-burg Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Henderson-Davis Players and S. C. Credit Union. He was the Omega Man of the Year for the Epsilon Omega Chapter in 1979. In 1966 S.C. State University Bulldog Annual was dedicated to him. The Crawford-Zimmerman Complex at S.C. State University is named in honor of him and his close friend, Thomas J. Crawford. Survivors include Geraldyne Pierce, his wife of 65 years; one son, Dudley Malone Jr. of Orangeburg; one daughter, Rose Hayzel Jones of Van Nuys, Calif.; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Toynetta McCraw of Columbia and Rosebud Beverly of Sprinfield, Va.; two brothers, Cornell Richardson and Clayton Richardson, both of Hartsville; a dedicated care-giver, Gwendolyn Wright; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and close friends.

Olivet Baptist Church. Surviving are her sons, Heyward Walters and Howard Walters, both of Patrick; daughter, Nancy W. Rogers of Patrick; brothers, J.C. Barefoot and Morgan Barefoot, both of Patrick, and Junior Barefoot of Chesterfield; sisters, Lucille Isgett of Patrick, Edna Lynch of Pine Ridge; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
