Services for Sam King, 85, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at John Wesley Methodist Church with the Rev. John Smith officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, Friday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mr. King, widower of Grace Cassidy King and Irene Rogers King, died Wednesday, Aug. 30. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Hudson and Pearl Black King Sr. He was a member of John Wesley Methodist Church. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company with 35 years of service and was a member of the Old Timers Club Surviving are his son, Samuel G. (Donna) King of Hartsville; daughter, Linda (Larry) Thompson of Hartsville; step-son, Danny Rogers of Hartsville; step-daughter, Sandra (Manly) Kelley of Hartsville; two brothers, Joe King and Gary King, both of Hartsville; three sisters, Malverea Watkins, Virginia (Claude) Mims, all of Hartsville and Genevie Leonhirth of Sumter; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Charlie Terry died on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Edna Terry, of 746 Azalea Circle.

Services for Charlie Terry were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, in Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home. Mr. Terry died Thursday, Aug. 31, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Isaiah and Lucille Woodham Terry. He was educated in the public schools. He moved to Hartsville and was employed with International Mineral Corp. for more than 33 years before his retirement in 1975. He attended the Church of God Beyond Man’s Knowledge. Survivors are six daughters, Edna Terry of Hartsville, Rosa Marie Fox and Charlena (Eddie) Ross, both of Darlington, Margaret Williams of Bridgeport, Conn., Cora Lee Anderson of Lorain, Ohio and Betty (Joe) James of Decatur, Ga.; two sons, William (Patricia) Terry of Hartsville and Donald Terry of Darlington; a sister, Janie Wilds of Hartsville; a brother, L. G. (Lila) Harris of Fayetteville, N.C.; 24 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; a special niece, Mary (Wilbert) Wingate of Hartsville; and a special nephew, Willie James Alford of Buffalo, N.Y.

Services for Mary Jordan Flowers, 75, of Darlington, will be held today, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m. in Indian Branch United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington. Mrs. Flowers died Monday, Sept. 4, in a local hospital. She was born
in Darlington County and was the daughter of the late Ivy and Kate Anderson Jordan. She was a member of Indian Branch United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband, Eli John Flowers of the home; three sons, Winfred (Loris) Flowers, Eli John Flowers Jr. and Donnie R. Flowers, all of Darlington; three daughters, Katie (Billy) Weaver of Darlington, Eloise (Ronnie) Sims of Georgetown and Pearl (Tommy) Jeffords of Darlington; one step-sister, Annie Bell Rogers of Lydia; seven grandchildren, Ellen Rhodes, Le Flowers, Jo Garland, Rhonda Sims, Dawn Link, Gil Sims and Kristen Jeffords; and four great-grandchildren, Ashley Rhodes, Brittany Rhodes, Jordan Flowers and Julia Flowers. Services for Samuel Hartwell "Hart" Segars, 77, of Lamar, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church with interment following in Lamar Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel. Mr. Segars died Sunday, Sept. 3. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Samuel Edward and Jessie Windham Segars. He served his country in the United States Army and retired after 43 from Sonoco Products Co. Mr. Segars was a member of the Old Timer’s Club of Sonoco and VFW. He was a member of Philadelphia Southern Methodist Church where he served as steward and was a member of the choir. Surviving are his wife, Mary Donna Parnell Segars of Lamar; one son, Carroll H. Segars of Hartsville; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Cindy) Bladel and Mrs. Danny "Marsha" Odom, both of Hartsville; one step-son, Billy (Cheryl) Fields of Hartsville; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Vivian Boyle of Sumter. Services for Daisy Bell Johnson Hartley Lloyd, 72, were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, at the Vision Assembly Church. Interment followed at Hicks Chapel Cemetery near Coward, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington. Mrs. Lloyd died Saturday, Sept. 2. Born in Rockingham, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Willie Johnson and Minnie Viola Buck Johnson. Mrs. Lloyd was a member of Vision Assembly Church in Darlington, where she was a member of the Prime-Timers. She worked many years at the Bethea Baptist Home. Her first husband, Richard Hartley and her second husband, Wesley Lloyd, predeceased her. A son, Mitchell Hartley, also predeceased her. Survivors include five sons, Richard (Buddy) Hartley, Bobby Joe Hartley Sr. and Jamie Lloyd of Florence, Danny Ray Hartley and Donnie H. Hartley, both of Erie, Pa.; two daughters, Shelby E. (Aubrey) Montrose of Florence and Nancy (James) Lloyd of Hartsville; one brother, Laverne Johnson of Darlington; three sisters, Annie Mae Jackson, Ida Rea Rogers and Ida Lee Lamb, all of Darlington; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Joyce Miles of Darlington. Services for Marion James Goodson, 87, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Mr. Goodson died Sunday, Sept. 3. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Arthur and Eunice Moody Goodson. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and retired from Sonoco Products Company after 32 years of service, and was a member of the Old Timer’s Club. He also retired as bailiff of Darlington County after 27 years, and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. Surviving are his wife, Fannie Odom Goodson of Darlington; sons, Marion Goodson Jr. of Hartsville and Ricky Goodson of Darlington; daughters and sons-in-law, Frances (Harry) Golden of Charleston and Barbara (Jim) Neal of Columbia; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Thomas Jack Truett Jr., 37, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Sept. 6, 2000, in the Matthews Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Truett died Sunday, Sept. 3, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born
in Atlanta, Ga., a son of Thomas Jack Truett Sr. and the late Judith Snelson. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. She was predeceased by a granddaughter.

in Darlington County, a son of William Mason and Helen Huggins Kelly. He was employed with Lamar’s Starter and Alternator in Rock Hill. Surviving are his parents of Hartsville; one son, Ronald Henry Kelly Jr. of Cheraw and a daughter, Shannon Kelly, also of Cheraw.

in Richland County, a son of the late Solomon Robert and Bertha McDaniel Chirp. He was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church in Columbia, and was a Army veteran. His sister, Druscilla T. Reeves, preceded him in death. Surviving are three sisters, Georgia Mae (Walter) Young of Society Hill, Margaret Williams and Bertha A. Monroe, both of Washington, D.C.; a special niece, Linda Edwards of Florence; a host of nieces, grandnieces, grandnephews and other close relatives and friends.
