Services for D. C. Odom, 86, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. John Hamilton officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Norton Funeral Home. Mr. Odom was born
in Chesterfield County, a son of the late William and Nancy Della Johnson Odom. He was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, Living Hope Sunday School Class and a veteran of WW II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Frances Hodge Odom of Hartsville; a son and daughter-in-law, James Reid (Elaine) Odom of Hartsville; a daughter and son-in-law, Lana (Joe) Blackmon of Darlington; and a grandson, Rion Odom of Hartsville. Memorials may be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Building Fund or the Emmanuel Baptist School.

Services for Bert Kendall "Rabbi" Rabon, 43, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge with the Rev. Timothy Steen officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Rabon died Sunday, Sept. 10. Born in Hampton County, he was a son of Shirley Perdue Rabon and the late Franklin Rudolph Rabon. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Pine Ridge. Surviving are his wife, Vickie Haire Rabon of Hartsville; a son, Bert Patrick Rabon of Loris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Crystal (Steven) Haynes and Ciara Ruth Rabon, all of Hartsville; his mother, Shirley Perdue Rabon of Loris; a brother, Wayne Rabon of Patrick; four sisters, Margo Cox, Locket Ebbs and Alma Gean McDowell, all of Loris and Millie Smith of North Carolina; and two grandchildren.
WINDELL C. WILKES
Services for Windell C. "Dusty" Wilkes, 19, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, at the Lamar Chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment in Byrd Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Mr. Wilkes died Saturday, Sept. 9, in a Florence hospital as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. He was born
in Darlington County, the son of Windell "Winkie" and Glenda Conyers Wilkes. He was employed at Standard Corporation as an operator and attended Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving, in addition to his mother of Darlington and his father of Lamar are one sister, Mrs. Lynn (Kim W.) Hanna of Lamar; his grandmother, Ila Mae Conyers of Lamar; a niece, Harley Hanna, and his step-mother, Mary Ann Wilkes.
WILSON H. BUNCH
Graveside services for Wilson H. Bunch, 76, of Darlington, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2000, in the Florence National Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home. Mr. Bunch was born
in McColl, the son of the late Rev. J. O. and Mary Shuler Bunch. He was retired from the United States Navy. Mr. Bunch was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the D.A.V. Surviving are his wife, Mabel Walters Outlaw Bunch of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Julian (Elizabeth B.) Barringer of Aiken and Mrs. Carl (Mary Jo O.) Richardson; a son, Donnie H. (Susan) Outlaw of Darlington; four grandchildren; and one sister, Martha Howell of Florida.

Services for Janie Ester Keith Samuel, 41, were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000, in St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church, Lamar, with Bishop W. L. Lewis, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Hart No. 2 Cemetery, directed by Mitchell Josey Funeral Home. Mrs. Samuel died Monday, Aug. 28 in a Florence hospital as a result of an automobile accident. She was born
in Florence County, Sardis Community, and was the daughter of Joseph and Jannie Mae Rush Keith. She was a life member of St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church where she served faithfully on the usher board, Pastor’s Aide and Missionary. She was a member of the Eastern Star Beacon Light Chapter No. 280. She received her formal education in Darlington County public schools and was a graduate of Mayo High School Class of 1973. At the time of her passingm, she had been employed at M.S.D. for 16 years. Survivors include her loving husband, Willie Samuel of the home; her devoted parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Keith of Darlington; three loving daughters, Ester Willette Samuel, Alicia Renee Samuel and Joy Willene Samuel, all of the home; a grandson, Kershawn Tyrik Travis of the home; a brother, Joseph (Rosanne) Keith, and two loving sisters, Doretha K. Gandy and JoAnn Keith, all of Darlington; brothers and sisters-in-law; five aunts; three uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Services for John "Johnny" Pierce Sr. were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000, in New Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Coleman Cannon, officiating. Burial was in the Pierce Family Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home. Mr. Pierce died Saturday, Aug. 26 in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late John and Sarah Richardson Pierce. He was the widower of Mary Bruce Pierce. He was educated in the Darlington County public schools and was a life member of New Providence Baptist Church where he served as past member of the senior choir and a faithful member of the Kitchen Committee. He was retired from R. E. Goodson Construction where he was a truck driver. Survivors include a son, Lt. Col. Johnny Pierce Jr. of Ft. Gilleon, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. Marie Bacote; a brother, Stephen Pierce, both of Darlington; two grandchildren, Carla and Johnna Pierce, both of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Andrena Sturgis and Juanita Pierce, both of Darlington; three brothers-in-law, Joshua, Roland and Willie James Bruce, all of Darlington; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Ms. Margaret Ann Mills Bailey, 54, were held at 4 p.m Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in Mt. Rona Baptist Church, Society Hill with Bishop C. L. Johnson, officiating. Burial followed in the church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home. Ms. Bailey died Friday, Sept. 1, in a Florence hospital after a short illness. She was born
in Darlington and was the daughter of the late Lessie and Easter McCall Mills. She was a graduate of Mayo High School and received her bachelor of science degree in math from Benedict College, Columbia. At an early age, she joined Mt. Rona Baptist Church. Ms. Bailey lived in St. Louis, Mo. all of her adult life. There she was gainfully employed by NIMA National Imaging Mapping Agency for the U.S. Air Force, from which she retired in August 2000, and returned to Darlington Aug. 28, 2000. Survivors include a loving daughter, Bridgett Elaine Mills of St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Clara L. Gregg and Elizabeth (Lawrence) Gregg, both of Darlington; seven brothers, Leo (Caroline) Mills of Broomfield, Colo., Lessie Mills Jr., Frank (Mozell) Mills, James Edward (Lenora) Mills, David Mills Sr., Hayward Mills Sr., Herbert (Patricia) Mills, all of Darlington; three aunts, Mrs. Louise Covington of Society Hill, Mrs. Mary Green and Mrs. Betty Muldrow, both of Darlington; nieces, nephews and cousins.

in Darlington County, a daughter of the late J. B. and Nonie Stokes Davis. Surviving are one daughter, Marie Brown of Hartsville; two grandchildren, Kristin and Kimberly Brown of Hartsville; and one sister, Ruth Harris of Darlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Murray Patterson Jr., and a son, Gene Michael Patterson.
MARY NEWTON
Services for Mary Ulmer Fair Newton, 92, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2000, at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Scott Robinson and the Rev. Harvey Newton, Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church. Mrs. Newton, widow of Harvey Jordan Newton, Sr. died Tuesday, Sept. 12. Born in Latta, she was a daughter of the late John Simpson and Henriette Elizabeth Carlisle Fair. She graduated from Bennettsville High School, Teachers College at Winthrop in 1929 and received a diploma in a four-year piano course from the University Extension Conservatory of Chicago. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church since 1934 and the Edna Wright Sowell Sunday School class, where she was a teacher and pianist for many years. She taught school and piano for some years. She and her husband moved to Hartsville in 1934 and operated a fruit and produce stand and were also involved in farming. Surviving are two daughters, Karen Daniels of Florence and Mary Jordan Ferguson of Hilton Head, S.C.; three sons, Harvey Newton Jr. of Alameda, Calif., Barry Newton of Cornelius, N.C. and Richard Newton of Hartsville; a brother, John S. Fair of Latta; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
