DOROTHY SCARBOROUGH
LAMAR – Services for Dorothy S. Scarborough, 86, of Lamar, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, in Lamar First Baptist Church with interment following in Fair Hope Cemetery in Lamar directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Lamar. Mrs. Scarborough was born
in Middleton, Ohio, and was the only daughter of the late Frederick C. and Louise Johnson Schueller. A South Carolina resident for more than 60 years, Mrs. Scarborough was a well-respected and active member of Lamar First Baptist Church and the community. Most recently, she attended Lamar First Baptist Church, but was also a former elder of Fair Hope Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Pee Dee Electric Co-op Board of Trustees. She also served on the Darlington County Water and Sewer Board of Directors. In addition, she was a member of Women in Rural Electrification, Crossroads Home Demonstration Club, and numerous other social and service organizations. Mrs. Scarborough was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert M. Saverance, Presley V. Sims and J. Laverne Scarborough.
Survivors are two children, J. Fred Saverance of Lamar and Phyllis S. Lambert of Greensboro, N.C.; four grandchildren, Robert Saverance of Lamar, Julian Saverance of Lancaster, Cheralyn Lambeth of Charlotte, N.C., and Michelle Lambeth of Raleigh, N.C.; three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, step-children and step-grandchildren.
RAYMOND TYNER SR.
Services for Raymond Tyner Sr., 58, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Kelleytown Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Anderson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Kelleytown Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Tyner was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Marion H. and Bernice Langley Tyner. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. after 37 years of service, a member of the Old Timers Club, the Kelleytown Baptist Church, the Brotherhood and a former deacon. He was preceded in death by brothers, Leslie, Carson, Buddy and Rudolph Tyner.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jacquelyn Grantham Tyner of Hartsville; two sons, Todd Tyner of Sanford, N.C. and Charles Raymond Tyner Jr. of Conway; one daughter, Mrs. Angela Rivers of Florence; one sister, Mrs. Cornelia Moore of Hartsville; two brothers, Frank Tyner of Hartsville and Marion Tyner of Murrell's Inlet; eight grandchildren, Abby, Tori, Lacey and Makenzie Tyner and Bradley, Keely and Hart Rivers; one great-grandchild, Tiffany Rivers.
TINA SMITH
Graveside services for Ada Martina 'Tina' Marshall Smith, 50, were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000 in Magnolia Cemetery with the Rev. Ted Duvall officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Smith died Thursday, Oct. 26. Born in Florence, she was a daughter of the late M. McLeod and Ruby Marshall Marshall. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and was previously employed as an office manager with Paper Stock Dealers of Sonoco Products Company.
Surviving are her husband, George Ray Smith Jr. of Hartsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Sid and Kassandra Segars of Randolph, N.J., and George Ray Smith III of Hartsville; brother, Miller Marshall of Hartsville. She was predeceased by her first husband, Sidney Segars Jr.
WINSTON D. REED
DARLINGTON – Services for Winston Dubose Reed, 63, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Temple Free Will Baptist Church. Interment followed in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Temple Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 287, Darlington, S.C. 29540.
Mr. Reed died Friday, Oct. 27, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born
in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Raleigh F. Reed and Ruby Norton Reed Brown. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the South Carolina Highway Patrol as a lieutenant after 38 years of service as a state trooper. Mr. Reed was a member of the S.C. Law Enforcement Association and attended Temple Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Iva Shepard Reed of the home; three sons, Alan N. (Debra) Reed of Darlington and M. Glenn (Karen) Reed and R. Gregg Reed, both of Rock Hill; two stepchildren, Deborah Lynn Broach of Columbia and Tim (Brenda) Ward of Simpsonville; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Kenny Reed and Donald 'Sonny' Reed, both of Darlington.
EDNA CHAPMAN
Services for Edna Atkinson Chapman, 85, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2000, at the chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Bishop Henry Keith and Bishop Lawrence Quick officiated with burial in the Society Hill Mormon Cemetery.
Mrs. Chapman, widow of Curtis Chapman, died Sunday, Oct. 29. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late John Fate and Florence Louisa Dixon Atkinson. She was a life member of the Society Hill Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Prior to retirement, she was a security guard with Burns.
Surviving are her two daughters and son-in-law, Patricia and Wayne English of Society Hill, Carolyn Griggs of Holts Summit, Mo., brother, Fred Atkinson of Cheraw; nine grandchildren, Marty English, Jackie Crowley, Robbie English, Patti English, Wayne Griggs, Donnie Griggs, Lynn Kemple, Mike Griggs, Scott Griggs; and 16 great-grandchildren.

in Culpepper, Va., a son of Clara Nicholson Kemp and the late Johnny Coleman. Surviving other than his mother of Washington, D.C., are his wife, Justine Campbell Coleman of Hartsville; three sons, William Coleman Jr. and JaVon Coleman, both of Hartsville, and Kenny Pettyway of Washington, D.C.; his step-mother, Frankie Coleman; five sisters, Anna Mae Hines, Maria Washington, Jacqueline Coleman Miles, Mary Turner and Melissa Coleman; three brothers, Joseph Coleman, Barry Coleman and Robert Kemp.
ROBERT AUSTIN SR.
Mr. Robert "Bobby" Austin Sr. of McBee, died Monday Oct. 30, 2000 in a Charleston hospital after an illness. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, 2000, in Hartsville Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Burial will be in the Sandy Bluff United Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home. The body will lie in state in the funeral home Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Family will receive friends at the residence on Kingston Drive. Mr. Austin was born
in Lee County, a son of Mae Willis Austin and the late Warren Jenkins. He was educated in the public schools, graduating from Bishopville High School with the class of 1975. He was married
to Ronetta Peterson Austin on March 26, 1976. He was employed with the Milliken Plant of Hartsville until its closing and was last employed with Gayley and Lord of Society Hill before having a disabling accident Jan. 10, 1985. He was a regular attendee of the meetings of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses of Hartsville. Survivors are his wife, Ronetta Austin of the home; mother, Mae Willis Austin of Hartsville; two sons, Robert (Kisha) Austin, Jr., and Benjamin Lee (Tamela) Austin of Hartsville; a daughter, Wanda (Derrick) Goodman of Bishopville; seven sisters, Mary N. Addison and Jeanette (Jerry) Moses of Hartsville, Joanne (Hebert) Wilks of Florence, Betty Jean Austin of Boston, Mass., Elizabeth Tisdale and Windy Jenkins of Greensboro, N.C., Linda (Alphonso) Montgomery of Durham, N.C.; six brothers, Willie James Austin, Charles Austin and David Austin all of Hartsville, Booker T. (Sharon) Austin of Kissamee, Fla., Larry Jenkins and Steven Jenkins, both of Greensboro, N.C.; and a grandson JoQuan Derick Austin.
