REV. JESSIE KNOX
Services for Rev. Jessie Knox of Rex, Georgia, formerly of Darlington County, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in Bethel Hill Baptist Church in Bethune with burial in the church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home. Rev. Knox died Monday, Nov. 20, in Georgia after an illness.

CAROLYN D. BRUCE
Services for Carolyn DeLores Bruce will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Jerusalem Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home.

Ms. Bruce was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late James and Amanda Buchanan Martin Sr. She was educated in the public schools and graduated from Butler High School class of 1956. She was a lifetime member at Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Survivors include five daughters, Wanda Martin, Saron Davis, Pricillia Wilson and Sonya Martin, all of Hartsville, and Kathy Martin of Brooklyn, NY; two sons, Dwight (Edwina) Martin and Gregory M. McDonald of Columbia; one sister, Sandra Martin of Wappingers Falls, NY; two brothers, Carl Martin from Hartsville, and James Martin Jr. of Brooklyn, NY; 20 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

ETHA MAE SMITH
Services for Etha Mae Smith, 86, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Brock, officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Ms. Smith died Monday, Nov. 27. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Willis and Janie Hall Smith. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. She was retired from Sonoco Products Company with 35 years of service and was a member of the Old Timers Club.

Surviving are her nieces, Sara S. Kelley of Hartsville, Marie McNeal of Ypsilanti, Mich., Evelyn Harvey of Florence; nephews, Leo Shoemake of Hartsville and Jennings Allen of Darlington.

ERNEST A. HALL JR.
Service for Ernest Anthony Hall Jr. 64, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, in Second Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mr. Hall died Wednesday, Nov. 22, at his home after an illness. He was born in New Orleans, LA, a son of the late Ernest Anthony Hall Sr. and Louise Hall. He attended St. John of Arch school where he served as an altar boy and was fluent in Latin. He played baseball with the Kenner White Sox. He sang and played the drums with the Lloyd Price band in Kenner, LA before leaving New Orleans for Kentucky to ride as a jockey. He then traveled to New York to pursue his dream of singing with the Leo Price band. His heart and soul was in his music and those who saw him perform watched him transform on stage. He left New York in 1973 where he began his life in South Carolina, with his wife Virginia Hall. He owned a candy store and game room on Sixth Street. He was also employed with the Pee Dee Regional/Disability and Special Needs Systems.

Survivors left to cherish his memory are his children, Angela Gipson of New Orleans, LA, Lynda Hall Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y., Chanel Muldrow, Shon Hall and Cynthia Hall, all of Hartsville and his step-son, Kenneth Bryant of Phoenix, AR; three sisters, Rose Harris of Brooklyn, N.Y., Felice Folk of Melbourne, Fla. and Bernadine Jones of San Diega, CA; two brothers, Roy Hall and Oliver Hall, both of New Orleans; ten grandchildren, Latanya Curtis, Trenike Williams, Levone Gipson III, Chante' Hall, Shovanna Thomas, Chantz James, Chyna Muldrow, Christian Muldrow, Kenneth Bryant II, Tiffany Bryan; four great-grandchildren, Alex Curtis Jr., Darion Curtis, A-janai Curtis and Brian Williams Jr; a host of other relatives and friends.

BLONDIE E. HINES
Services for Blondie Evans Hines, 86, of New York, N.Y., formerly of Lamar, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, in Bethel Baptist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hines, wife of the late Willie Hines Sr., died Tuesday, Nov. 28, in a New York nursing home after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Willie and Ella Peoples Evans. While in New York, she attended Metropolitan Baptist Church, where she served on the Parents Board. She received her education in Darlington County public schools and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Rev. Willie Hines Jr. of New York, N.Y.; and a brother, Lawrence Evans of Springs Garden.

RUBY FLACCOE
Services for Ruby Loflin Flaccoe, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. The Rev. Ted Duvall will officiate with entombment in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Bartholomew's, 103 Campus Dr., Hartsville, S.C. 29550.

Mrs. Flaccoe, widow of Albert Flaccoe, died Wednes-day, Dec. 29, 2000. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Eva Martin Loflin. She graduated from Converse College, Peabody Conserva-tory, Juillard Institute of Music, and Chicago Musical College. She was a musician, educator, world traveler, lecturer, performer, TV music teacher, TV consultant, and guest artist. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, Hartsville Music Study Club, Hartsville Museum, Hartsville Heritage Foundation, Kalmia Arts, and Hartsville Country Club.

She will be greatly missed by Vicky and John Stover of Mapleton, Utah.

CHARLES V. POSTON
Services for Charles V. Poston, 56, will be held at 11 a.m. today, Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Terry Moore will officiate with burial at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lancaster Memorial Park Cemetery, Lancaster, SC. Memorials may be made to Hebron United Methodist Church, McBee, SC, 29201.

Mr. Poston, husband of Peggy Jones Poston, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Charlie and Florence Howell Poston. He was a lifetime member of Hebron United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Vernon and Paula Poston, II, of Lancaster, S.C.; daughter and son-in-law, Sheri P. and David Duncan of Patrick, S.C.; step-sons, John R. and William C. Jones of Hartsville; step-daughters, Teresa Walters of McBee, Deborah Walters of Patrick, and Donna Walters and Lucinda Mason, both of Hartsville; brothers, John Poston of Woodbine, Ga., and J.W. Poston of Lancaster; sisters, Eva Mae Plyler and Rosa Lee Catoe, both of Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Poston; and a sister, Ivy Lehota.

WILLIAM LAW
Graveside services for William Chancy Law, 82, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Ted Duvall will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Atlanta Center, 1244 Park Vista Dr., Atlanta, Ga. 30319.

Mr. Law, widower of Jenny Louise "Bit" Williams Law, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000. Born in Darlington County, he was the youngest son of the late Henry Leland and Edith Chaney Law.

Surviving are his sons, William C. Law Jr., of Windsor, Ontario, Allen W. Law of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; brother, Henry L. Law Jr. of Virginia; and five grandchildren.

JOE HEMBY
Graveside services for Joe Hemby, 80, will be held at 3 p.m. today, Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in McBee Cemetery. The Rev. Paul Sowell will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to the McBee Rescue Squad, Box 355, McBee, SC 29101.

Mr. Hemby, widower of Sadie Segars Hemby, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000. Born in Indian Trail, N.C., he was a son of the late Willie Joe and Belle Hargett Hemby. He was a retired independent truck driver and a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Deb Hemby of Camden, S.C., and Dawson and Judy Hemby of Hartsville; grandchildren, Ray Hemby Jr., Brad Hemby and Heather Atkinson; and a great-grandchild, Whitney Hemby.

DOROTHY MARKLE
Memorial services for Dorothy Hall Markle, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at the Carriage House. The Rev. Art Zawislak will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Memorials may be made to the American Bible Society, Box 98011, Washington, D.C. 20090-8011 or Lottie Moon Offering at Lakeview Baptist Church, 202 Lakeview Blvd., Hartsville, SC 29550.

Mrs. Markle was born in Detroit, MI, a daughter of the late Floyd H. and Elizabeth Pollock Hall. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. She began her career as a telephone operator in the days when the operator rode roller skates to make telephone connections. She retired with 40 years of service from Michigan Bell. Her poetry was enjoyed by her family, friends and church communities in Michigan, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, David and Faith Markle of Hartsville; brothers, Harvey "Bud" Hall of Lachine, Mich., and James Hall of Port Hope, Mich.; sisters, Lillian McMullen of Big Rapids, Mich., Betty Severance of Orange, Calif.; grandchildren, Charis Markle, Alyssa Markle, Grayson Markle, Israel Markle and Christian Markle.
