NORWOOD BASKIN
Services for Norwood Fleming Baskin, 87, were held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church conducted by the Rev. Ted Duvall and the Rev. Dr. David L. Waters. A private graveside service was held at Piedmont Memorial Cemetery, Bishopville, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Baskin, widower of Nan Richardson Rickenbaker Baskin, died Saturday, Jan. 13. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late William Peebles and Esther Fleming Baskin. After graduation from Springview High School, Mr. Baskin attended Clemson College in 1930 and graduated from Presbyterian College in 1935. He began his career as an accountant in the General Accounting Office in Washington, D.C. and later returned to Lee County and farmed for several years. In 1951, he became an auditor for the South Carolina Tax Commission from which he retired in 1985. He was an active member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church and a member of the Hartsville Lions Club from 1985-1995.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Esther Norvell Baskin and James L. Ferguson of James Island, S.C., Mary Elizabeth Baskin and Samuel Calvin Waters of Columbia, and Nan Tinsley Waters of Atlanta, Ga.; his devoted friend and companion, Rheda Stokes of Hartsville. He was predeceased by his brother, Senator William Peebles Baskin Sr. and sisters, Elizabeth Baskin Massey and Adville Baskin Walkup.
MOSES WILLOUGHBY
DARLINGTON Services for Mr. Moses Willoughby were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. James E. Moore, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Faith Memorial Gardens directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. of Darlington.
Mr. Willoughby died Monday, Jan. 8, at his residence after an illness. He was born
in Darlington a son of the late Andrew and Idella Graham Willoughby. He attended Darlington County public schools. Afterward, he served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After serving his tenure, he was honorably discharged. He was a life member of St. James United Methodist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 210.
He was a former employee of the Darlington County Sheriff's Department from which he retired in 1986. He also was a brick mason.
Survivors include his loving children, Michael Willoughby of Austin, Texas, Mitchell (Sandy) Willoughby of Gloucester, Va., Audrey Barnes of Chester, Va., and Stephanie (Walter) Lide of Darlington; three brothers, Heyward (Delphine) Willoughby, Melvin (Miriam) Willoughby and Vincent (Naomi) Willoughby, all of Darlington; a sister, Andrena (Carnell) Pooler of Darlington; four grandchildren, Joey and Justin Willoughby, Mario Barnes and Bradley Lide; a special friend, Florence Scott; and several nieces and nephews.
ERNEST D. PARKER
LANCASTER Services for Ernest David Parker, 86, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the Cauthen Funeral Home, Lancaster Chapel by the Rev. Jerald Starnes and the Rev. Dr. Stuart Snow. Burial was in Lancaster Memorial Park.

Mr. Parker died Friday, Jan. 12, at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte, N.C. He was born
Sept. 25, 1914, in Cassett, a son of the late Mr. Reddin Lee Parker and Mrs. Charlotte Hall Parker. He attended the First Pentecostal Holiness Church and had retired from Springs Industries after 43 years of service.
Mr. Parker is survived by a son, Kennie (Shirley) Parker of Lancaster; three daughters, Mrs. Miriam (Thomas) Tillman, Mrs. Delphine (Richard) Spinks and Mrs. Geri (Benny) Brazell, all of Lancaster; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. DARLINGTON Services for Thelma Scaffe Gandy, 56, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Black Creek Cemetery officiated by the Rev. Stuart Jacobs, directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gandy died Thursday, Jan. 11, in a Hartsville hospital after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Raymond and Mary Miller Scaffe. She was a housewife.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Jimmy Gandy of Dovesville, are two sons, Jimbo Cameron and Ronnie Cameron, both of Dovesville; two daughters, Sherry Pierce of Dovesville and Marie Cameron of Perry, Fla.; a step-daughter, Jennifer Gandy of Dovesville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one belated great-grandchild; also five brothers, Woodrow "Woody" Allen Scaffe Jr., Woodrow "Smoky" Allen Scaffe Sr., both of Darlington, Donnie Scaffe of Albany, Ga., Maxey King Jr. of Sumter and Fred Boyd of Monks Corner; and one sister, Margaret Barnes of Florence.

DARLINGTON - Services for Mary Miller Scaffe, 80, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Scaffe died Friday, Jan. 12, in a Hartsville hospital. She was born
in Florence County, a daughter of the late Allen A. and Valie Moore Miller Reed. She was the widow of Raymond Scaffe. Mrs. Scaffe was retired from Darlington Seafood Market and was a member of the First Church of God.
Surviving are a daughter, Margaret (Ken) Barnes of Florence; five sons, Maxie King Jr. of Sumter, Donnie Scaffe of Albany, Ga., Fred Boyd of Moncks Corner, Woodrow "Smoky" Scaffe Sr. and Woodrow "Woody" Scaffe Jr; a son-in-law, Jimmy Gandy of Darlington; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Beulah Saleeby of Surfside Beach, Dianne Weatherford of Florence, Maebell Story of Eufala, Ala., and Joley Coletrane of Newberry; two brothers, Lonnie Miller of Florence and Gene A. Miller Sr. of Cassette.
Mrs. Scaffe was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Scaffe Jr. and a daughter, Thelma Jean Gandy.

Services for Heather Marie King, 23, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Roberts will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. King died Tuesday, Jan. 16. Born in Conway, she was a daughter of Thomas Bracco and Jacqueline S. King. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was a graduate of Francis Marion University.
Surviving are her father and step-mother, Thomas and Patti Bracco of Aiken, mother, Jacqueline S. Mr. Peterson died Sunday, Jan. 14, after an apparent heart attack. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Jerry and Sarah Coe Peterson Jr. He attended Darlington County public schools and Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Paterica Peterson of Washington, D.C.; a son, Larry Peterson of Miami, Fla.; five sisters, Elizabeth Robinson, Carolyn Myers, Cecelia Boone and Louise Mitchell, all of Hartsville and Margaret Frieson of Queens, N.Y.; eight brothers, Lawrence Peterson of Philadelphia, Pa., Bobby Peterson, Brooks Peterson, Leslie Peterson, Carl Peterson, Joseph Peterson and Jerry Lee Peterson, all of Hartsville and Michael Peterson of Rochester, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Ms. Jeffcoat died Tuesday, Jan. 16. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of D. J. Steen and the late Alice Steen. Surviving are two sons, Steven and Joshua Jeffcoat of Orangeburg; father and step-mother, D. J. and Marilyn Steen of Hartsville; two brothers, David J. Steen Jr. of Branchville and Jacob Wayne Steen of Camden; and three sisters, Kathy Branham of Pelion, Susan Boylston of McBee and Kimberly Steen of Hartsville.
AMELIA ANN MASON
Services for Amelia Ann Mason, 21, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Little Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, Bishopville, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Ms. Mason died Saturday, Jan. 13. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of Calvin and Sarah Mason Murray. She was a member of Little Zion Baptist Church, a graduate of Hartsville High School and was employed with Talley Metals Technology, Inc.
Surviving other than her father and mother, both of Hartsville, are a son, Darius D. Shirley of Hartsville; three sisters, Equita Mason of Hartsville, Calvetta Jordan and Calandra Smith, both of Darlington; three brothers, Calvieon Mason and Tamaze Mason, both of Hartsville, Antwon Jordan of Darlington; her maternal grandparents, J. D. and Vicey Mason of Hartsville; her paternal grandparents, Joseph and Shirley Murray of Darlington; aunts and uncles.

Mrs. Tolbert, widow of William Glasgow Tolbert Sr., died Wednesday, Jan. 17. Born in Gastonia, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Edison and Lucinda Smith Forbes. Mrs. Tolbert was a member of Bethune Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School for a number of years.
Surviving are three daughters, Mary Outen of Ft. Myers, Fla.; Sara Gaskins and Bobbie Collins, both of Bethune; one son, William G. Tolbert Jr. of Bethune; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Thomas Wylie Forbes of Kings Mountain, N.C.; and a half brother, Edward Forbes of Gastonia, N.C. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph Forbes and Frank Forbes.
