Services for Eula Mae Conyers Parnell, 79, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2000, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Carolyn Malphus and John Hamilton will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Parnell died on Wednesday, May 3, 2000. Born in Turbeville, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Charles Leroy and Lizzie Turbeville Conyers. She was a member of Twitty United Methodist Church and was retired from Sara Lee Hosiery. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Gene Munn and Mary and Billy Gainey, all of Hartsville; sister, Gladys Bellamy of Flint, Mich.; step-mother, Julia Warren of Sumter; half-brothers, Leroy Conyers, Tom Conyers and Frankie Conyers, all of Sumter; Eugene Conyers of Manning; grandchildren, Wayne Newsome, Kim O’Neal and Leigh Summers; and four great-grandchildren.
HARRY CLANTON
Graveside services for Harry W. Clanton, 74, were held at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2000, in Magnolia Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Curtis officiated, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the McLeod Foundation Cancer Treatment, 800 E. Cheves St., Florence, S.C. 29501. Mr. Clanton died on Wednesday, May 3, 2000. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Raeford Lee and Fannie Lee Clanton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the S.C. Merchants Association. He was retired from Coker’s Department Stores and Palmetto Uniform and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Surviving are his wife, Margie Grantham Clanton of Florence; sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Laurie Clanton of Irmo, S.C., and Gregg and Anna Clanton of Galena, Md.; brothers, R.L. Clanton Jr. of Hartsville, and Cecil Clanton of Bishopville; sister, Del Pinner of Hartsville; grandchildren, William Clanton, Julia Clanton and Nicole Clanton. He was predeceased by a brother, Lee Clanton.
THOMAS HUGGINS SR.
Thomas Eugene Huggins Sr., 50, died on Sunday, April 30, 2000. There will not be a funeral. Mr. Huggins was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late John Henry Huggins Sr. and Louise Barefoot Huggins. He was a retired truck driver. Surviving are two sons, Thomas E. Huggins Jr. and John E. Huggins, both of Hartsville; two sisters, Helen Kelly and Dorothy Fletcher, both of Hartsville; and two grandchildren.

Dec. 5, 1928, in Darlington County, to the late Wade Benjamin and Fronie Moore Blackwell. She retired from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system after 23 years in food service and was a longtime member of Matthews United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Archie Kimbrell Jr.; grandson, Daniel Kimbrell and also two sisters and one brother. Survivors include six sons, William Archie (Wanda) Kimbrell III of Hartsville, Eddie Wade (Terry) Kimbrell of New Salem, N.C., Mike Kimbrell and Joey Bundy of Sanford, N.C., Ricky (Andrea) Kimbrell of Waxhaw, Jerry Kimbrell of Weddington and Todd Kimbrell of Matthews; four daughters, Joyce K. (Gary) Russell of Stanfield, Dianne K. (Ray) Helms of Indian Trail, Susie K. (Steve) Outen of Weddington and Sherri K. (Mike) Sanders of Indian Trail; 20 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-laws, Dot Hartis and Betty Keziah.
WARD GAINEY
Services for Ward Bennett Gainey, 71, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 12, 2000, at Swift Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Bill Pfister will officiate with burial in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorial may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg, Dr., Suite 311, Columbia, S.C. 29204. Mr. Gainey died Tuesday, May 9. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Avender M. and Lillie Polk Gainey. He was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. with 43 years of service and was a member of the Old Timers Club. He also was retired from the SC National Guard and was past-president and chairperson of the Pee Dee District of WPCASC. A father to many but mainly a leader to a son, Brantley, that will never forget the love he gave. Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Betty Bradshaw Gainey of Hartsville; three sons, Bryan Gainey of Charleston, Brantley Gainey of Hartsville and Kevin Gainey of Macon, Ga.; a daughter, Tonda McLeod of McBee; a step-son, Bucky O’Neal of Olathe, Kan.; step-daughter, Beth Boone of Society Hill; a brother, Howard Gainey of Hartsville and nine grandchildren.
RICHARD SOULE, JR.
Graveside services for Richard Dale Soule Jr., 50, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2000, in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Ed Griggs officiating, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Soule died Sunday, May 7. Born in Augusta, Ga., he was a son of Freddie Catoe Soule and the late Richard Dale Soule Sr. He attended Richmond Academy and Augusta State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. Surviving are his mother of Martinez, Ga.; a sister and brother-in-law Lisa Soule and John Ramey of Bonneau, and a brother, Roy Scott Soule of Martinez.
EVELYN HARRELL
Services for Evelyn Galloway Harrell, 81, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2000, at North Hartsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ladell Humphries, the Rev. Dr. Richard Bailey and the Rev. Bryan Chapman, officiating. Burial was in Darlington Memory Gardens Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Harrell, widow of James Edgar Harrell, died Tuesday, May 9. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Russell Z. and Annie Suggs Galloway. She was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School class and was a Sunday School teacher for the shut-in. Surviving are her three sons, James E. (Faye) Harrell Jr. and Mike (Renee) Smith, both of Hartsville and Ronnie Earl Smith of W. Palm Beach, Fla.; four daughters, Barbara Weatherford, Betty (Ernest) Byrd and Brenda H. (Buford) Chapman, all of Hartsville, and Ann (Johnny) Andrews of Darlington; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three grandchildren, Robert, Beth and Wanda Byrd.
PLUMMER E. STEVENS
Services for Plummer E. Stevens, 81, of Bishopville, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Harmony Baptist Church in Bethune, with the Rev. Carl Watts Jr., officiating. Burial will be in Hardshell Cemetery in Lugoff, directed by Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. tonight, May 12, at the funeral home and other times at 2684 Stephens Road, Bethune. Mr. Stevens died Wednesday, May 10, at a local nursing home. Born in Lee County, he was a son of the late A. L."Link" Stephens and the late Irene Melton Stephens. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and a retired farmer. He was twice married, first to the late Marguerite M. Stephens and later to the late Nina Stephens. Survivors include two sons, Fred Stephens and Charlie Stpehens, both of Bethune; two daughters, Barbara Currie of Camden and Libby Catoe of Bethune; two step-daughters, Emily Akers of Lugoff and Alice Hall of Bishopville; three sisters, Lucille Clanton and Mary B. Smith, both of Mint Hill, N.C. and Mollie Byrd of Hartsville; 22 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three sons, Billy Stephens, Glenn Stephens and Johnny M. Stephens. Memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church or to the Bishopville Rescue Squad.
