Services for Thomas Wooster Dampier, 53, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 18, 2000, at Fourth Street Baptist Church with Revs. Kenneth Hood, Jimmy Baker and Steve Zimmerman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Elon Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society, 123 Westover Dr., Hartsville, SC 29550. Mr. Dampier died Monday, May 15. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Ruby Gainey Dampier and the late William Harvey Dampier. He was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church and was employed with Galey & Lord. Surviving are his wife, Mary McKenzie Dampier of Hartsville; two sons, Tom Dampier of Hartsville and Brad Dampier of Columbia; mother of Hartsville; brother, Howard Dampier and a sister, Persia Dampier, both of Hartsville.
THOMAS PATTERSON
Services for Thomas Patterson will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 17, 2000, in Greater Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church. Burial will be in St. John United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home. Mr. Patterson was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Junious and Ruby McCullough Patterson. He was educated in the public schools, worked with his family as farmers during his formative years. He was married
to May Queen Marshall of Bishopville in 1963 and to this union three children were born. He moved to New York early in life where he established his own business in the freight transportation industry (The Patterson Trucking Company). He moved back to his native South Carolina in the early 80’s and was self employed in several occupations. He was a member of the Greater Zion Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Florence. Survivors are his wife, Mary Patterson of Florence; two sons, Thomas (Marsha) Patterson Jr. of Louisville, Ky., and Maunice T. Patterson of Florence; two daughters, Kimberly (Rock) Paul of Louisville, Ky., and Crystal (Kenneth) Morgan of Suffolk, Va.; five brothers, Freddie (Gloria) Patterson of Bishopville, James (Mannlyn) Patterson of Florence, Henry (Minnie) Patterson, Howard Patterson and Leroy (Martha) Patterson, all of Lamar; three sisters, Deloris (Otis) McDaniels, Corine (Larry) McCullough and Loretta Rogers, all of Lamar; eight aunts, two uncles and seven grandchildren.
LARRY GANDY JR.
Services for Larry Gandy Jr. were held 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2000, in Darlington High School Gymnasium with Rev. Michael McMillian officiating. Burial followed in Round O Church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home. Mr. Gandy, 16, died Tuesday, May 9, after an automobile accident. He was born
in Darlington County and was the son of Larry and Gloria Johnson Gandy Sr. He was a student at Darlington Adult School. Survivors include his parents of the home; three sisters, Jhameka Livanga and Amber Gandy II of Darlington, a special sister, Yolanda Alford of Darlington; maternal grandparents, Roosevelt and Martha Johnson and paternal grandmother, Janie Gandy, all of Darlington; maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Ola Mae Douglas of Florence; a nephew; three aunts, four uncles and several great uncles and aunts. He was predeceased by paternal grandfather, Henry Gandy Jr.
JANIE W. BROWN
Services for Janie Woods Brown were held 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2000, in Mt. Rona Baptist Church with Rev. Matthew Robinson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church Cemetery, directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home of Darlington. Mrs. Brown died Tuesday, May 9, in a Darlington hospital after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Berry and Aileen Thompson Woods. She was the widow of John Lee Brown. She received her formal education in Darlington County public schools. She was a life member of Mt. Rona Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, William Brown of Society Hill; two daughters, Alleen Brown of Society Hill and Rosa Mae Allen of Darlington; 12 grandchildren, six of which she reared as her own, Beverly, Leroy, Darel, Dorothy, Barbara and Janice; 18 great-grandchildren, one she reared as her own, Samora; a brother, Perry Woods of Society Hill; son-in-law, Albert Smith of Waterbury, Conn. and several cousins.

Graveside services for Agnes Nance Hargrove, 92, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2000, at Westview Cemetery, in Atlanta, Ga., directed by Norton Funeral Home. Dr. John Beyers and Rev. James Sanders officiated. Mrs. Hargrove was born
in Morgan Falls, Ga., a daughter of the late John W. & Cora Webb Nance. She was a member of Grace Methodist Church, was retired from Emmory University as a secretary to the Chairman of the Biology department. She and her late husband co-chaired the PTA for the state of Georgia. Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie (Ted) Morrison of Charlotte, N.C., and Delores (Harry) Cole of Covington, La; one son, Ben (Susan) Hargrove Jr. of Fruitland Park. Fla.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin T. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery, directed by Brown-Penningotn-Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Brunson, widow of George Brunson, died Saturday, May 13. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Bealer and Ann Polson Dixon. She was a member of John Wesley Methodist Church. Surviving are her sons, Denny (Hazel) Brunson, Charles (Gloria) Brunson, all of Hartsville; daughter, Laris Brunson of Lake City, S.C.; brother, Allen Dixon of Texas; sister, Thelma Home of Henderson, Ky. She was predeceased by a brother, Billy Ross and two sisters, Claudie Mitchum and Vera Terry.

Services for Ronald "Bubba" T. Powell, 52, of Darlington, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2000, in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington. Interment followed in Grove Hill Cemetery. Mr. Powell died Friday, May 12. He was born
in Marion County, a son of the late T. L. and Blanche Powell. He was the owner of Powell Telecommunications and a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Powell was a fan of auto racing and was the sponsor of Trey Hall’s race car. He was happiest when he was working around children. Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Lisa Cowick Powell; two daughters, Madison Powell of the home and Katie Powell of Hartsville; two sisters, Shirley P. (Nat) Gurerrero of Florence and Gaily P. (Edward) Reason of Britton’s Neck; one niece, Christy Reason of Britton’s Neck; nephews, Scott Reason of Britton’s Neck, Jason Guerrero of Manning, Jamie Gurerrero of Jackson, Miss. and Johnathn Guerrero of Florence; and Zan Rittenberry, best friend and business associate. Services for Rev. Kevin Lenard Cox Jeffrey, formerly of Darlington, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at Macedonia Baptist Church in Darlington with Rev. Donald Hughes, pastor. Burial was in St. John United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Oates Community, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Hartsville. Mr. Jeffrey died Friday, May 12, in the Anderson Area Memorial Medical Center, Anderson, S.C. He was born
in Philadelphia, Pa., a son of Herbert Cox and Ernestine Jeffrey Cox Daniels. He was raised by his grandparents, Asa and Laura Hines Jeffrey in Darlington. Was a 1977 graduate from Mayo High School, continued his education at Claflin College in Orangeburg, where he majored in religious education and philosophy, was a graduate of Morris College of Sumter. He continued educational pursuits at Erskine Theological Seminary. Rev. Jeffrey, as a pastor of several congregations throughout the state of South Carolina had special skills in preparing programs of Christian Education that related to community development programs for positive human growth and development. He held positions in several churches to include the Orangeburg Circuit of the United Methodist Church, Bethlehem UMC, the St. John UMC and the Mt. Nebo UMC. Also in the Anderson Circuit of the UMC was the Bethlehem UMC, the Mt. Sinai UMC, the Deep Creek UMC and the Mt. Pleasant UMC. He was the immediate past pastor of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of the Hartsville Community. Survivors, include his wife, Carolyn Jeffrey, twin sons, Brendan and Braxton Jeffrey and son, Shane Whitner all of Anderson; a son, Aaron Jeffrey and daughter Arleatha Jeffrey, both of Darlington; his mother, Ernestine Daniels and step father, William Avon Daniels of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Karen LaJuana Jeffrey of Anderson; two grandchildren, a brotherly friend, Rev. Emanuel Simon; a host of aunts, nieces, nephews and other close and dear friends.

Born in Richburg, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John O. and Plumie Ford Wylie. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and was retired from the Department of Social Services. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Samuel Goode and Gail Mobley Jr. of Hartsville; daughter, Sarah Mobley James of Hartsville; granddaughter, Gennie Hunter Handmaker of Atlanta, Ga.; and one great-grandson, Austin Handmaker.
