DARLINGTON – Graveside services for John Rowland Pope, infant son of Rowland B. "Arby" Pope Jr. and Kimberly Minor Pope, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.
The infant died Thursday evening, Feb. 1, in a Florence hospital.
Surviving in addition to his parents of the home are two brothers, Justin Minor and A. J. Owens; and grandparents, Sarah Pope of Lamar, Rowland B. Pope of Nashville, Tenn., Beatrice Minor and John Landford Minor of Belton; and Lucille Gulledge of Pine Ridge.
BILLIE JOHNSON
Services for Billie Johnson Johnson, 75, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at New Market United Methodist Church. The Revs. Larry Brown and Grover Johnson officiated with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson, widow of Kenneth Russell Johnson, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Belare Craig and Geanie Caddell Johnson. She was a member of New Market United Methodist Church and the DAV Auxiliary #72. She was retired from Red Fox Apparel.
Surviving are her son, Charles Johnson of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Judy Kaye and John R. Howle of Jacksonville, Fla.; sister, Nell Atkinson of Hartsville; grandchildren, Payton Johnson, June Johnson, Geanie Howle, Mrs. James R. (Bess) Reed and Rusty Howle. She was predeceased by a son, Russ Johnson Jr.
CHARLES H. DAVIS SR.
MYRTLE BEACH – Graveside services for Charles H. (Chick) Davis Sr., 75, formerly of Bethune, were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Turkey Creek Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. The Rev. Sue Arledge officiated.
Mr. Davis was born
in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Charlie M. and Eliza Wingate Davis. He was retired from Kendall Co. in Bethune, was a member of the Bethune Presbyterian Church, where he was a former Deacon, and was a member of the Lynchwood Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rebecca McKinnon Davis, Myrtle Beach; two sons, Rick B. Davis of Myrtle Beach and Charles H. (Debbie) Davis Jr. of Bethune; one daughter, Ms. Rebecca Ann Davis of Murrells Inlet; one brother, Manley Davis of Florence; two sisters, Mrs. Elsie Mae Bruton of Summerville and Mrs. Celeste Segars of Camden; three granddaughters, Ms. Mandy Davis of Murrells Inlet, Ms. Tanya Davis of Cheraw and Ms. Amber Smith of Bethune.
Memorials may be made to the Bethune Presbyterian Church or the American Lung Association.
CARLOS G. BAILEY
PATRICK – Graveside services for Carlos Greene "C.G." Bailey, 81, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, in Patrick Cemetery directed by Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home of Chesterfield.
Mr. Bailey died Saturday, Feb. 3. He was born
in Southern Pines, N.C., a son of the late Dempsey Ernest and Petria Jensen Bailey. He retired from Seaboard Railroad after 40 years of service and was a former mayor of Patrick. Mr. Bailey attended St. John Freewill Baptist Church and was predeceased by four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Bell Crowley Bailey of the Bethea Baptist Home in Darlington; one daughter, Mary E. "Libby" Strickland of West Columbia; four sons, Carlos G. Bailey Jr. of Camden, Ernest N. Bailey of Columbia, John E. Bailey of Aiken and William D. Bailey of Hartsville; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, David Bailey of Deerwood, Md. and Dempsey Bailey of Pisgah Forest, N.C.; six sisters, Ernestine Ingram of Santa Barbara, Calif., Joyce Stutts, Margaret Mattocks, and Mary T. Bailey, all of Southern Pines, N.C., Edna Poole of Raeford, N.C. and Sue Haithcock of Lexington.

DARLINGTON – Services for Frank Oliver Logan, 68, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 7, 2000, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Mechanicsville Baptist Church Cemetery.
ALICE GRIGGS
Services for Alice Winburn Griggs, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 7, 2001, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. The Revs. Rocky Heath and Dr. Don Purvis will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Griggs, widow of Simpson Gay Jones and Nathan Griggs, died Monday, Feb. 5. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late William David and Genice Elizabeth Braddock Winburn. She was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. She was a wonderful and loving mother and mother-in-law.
Surviving are her sons and daughter-in-law, John Roy and Roberta Jones, Donnie Gay Jones, all of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Alice Dixon and Nora Ellan Atkinson, both of Hartsville, Carolyn and Jeff Cassidy of Ruby, Gail and Roland O'Neal, Rita Johnson, Jackie Dixon, all of Hartsville; step-son and spouse, Marine and Delores Griggs of Hartsville; step-daughter, Peggy Ann Poston of Hartsville; 30 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
CARRIE HUSKEY
Graveside services for Carrie Tolson Huskey, 93, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, in Magnolia Cemetery with Bishop Cliff Barfield officiating and directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mrs. Huskey, widow of Dewey Huskey, died Sunday, Feb. 4. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late John Delesly and Carolina Brown Tolson. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Relief Society. She was retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company.
Surviving are her brothers, L. Hart Tolson of Baltimore, Md., Edward V. Tolson of Charlotte, N.C., and nieces and nephews
FRANK JOHNSON
DARLINGTON – Services for Frank "Toot" Johnson were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, in Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Robert Ham officiating. Burial was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, in Florence National Cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home of Darlington.
Mr. Johnson, 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 31 in a Columbia hospital after an illness. He was born
in Darlington, a son of the late Sam and Magnolia McDaniel Johnson. He attended Darlington County public schools after which he served his country in the U.S. Army for 23 years. After his tenure, he was honorably discharged after which he made his home in Columbia. There, he joined Nazareth Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lucia R. Johnson of Darlington; two daughters, Mrs. Doris (Robert) Franks of Florence and Mrs. Eleanor (Augustus) Ham of Darlington; a son, Anthony Johnson of Columbia; a brother, Richmond (Harriot) Wright of Darlington; two grandsons, Shea and Darian Franks of Florence; and a special friend, Ms. Mayola Vickey.
EVERETT B. BAKER
LANCASTER – Services for Everett Bogan Baker, 82, were held at 2 p.m .Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at First Baptist Church in Lancaster conducted by the Rev. Roy Barnes. Burial was in Lancaster Memorial Park directed by Mahaffey Funeral Home. Mr. Baker died Sunday, Feb. 4, at Wilson Medical Center in Darlington. Born in Jefferson, he was a son of the late Edgar Bogan and Nellie Mae Sullivan Baker. He was a retired insurance salesman, a former member of the Lancaster Lions Club, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, and a member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Barean Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife, Ottie Lee Gardner Baker; his daughter, Mrs. Bonnie (Drew) Hamilton of Hartsville; and three grandchildren, Andy Hamilton of Lake City, Gwen Hamilton Diehl of Charleston and Blair Hamilton of Hartsville.
CURTIS DAVIS
BETHUNE – Services for Curtis Davis, 78, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at Bethune Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Cockrell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Bishopville Chapel. Visitation will be tonight, Feb. 7, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home in Bishopville.
Mr. Davis died Tuesday, Feb. 6. He was born
in Kershaw County, a son of the late Sam Davis Sr. and Maggie Tidwell Davis. He was a member of Bethune Baptist Church and was retired from Kendall Mills.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia Catherine Martin Davis of Bethune; two daughters, Anita Murphy of Hartsville and Cathy Johnson of Manning; six sons, Glenn Martin of Bethune, Hiram Pratt of Wadesboro, Sidney Pratt of Morven, Baxter Pratt of Lilesville; Robert Pratt of Greer and Marshall Pratt of Warner Robbins, Ga.; one brother, Sam Davis Jr. of Bethune; one sister, Catherine Hunter of Hartsville; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
