ALTON McCASKILL
BETHUNE – Services for C. Alton McCaskill, 80, will be held today, Feb. 16, 2001, at 3 p.m. from the Bethune Baptist Church with the Rev. Jeff Cockrell and the Rev. Gene Plyler will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. Memorials may be made to Bethune Baptist Church, 304 Blackmon Street, Behtune, S.C. 29009.
Mr. McCaskill died Feb. 14. He was born in Kershaw County, a son of the late James Talley an Lizzie Ratcliffe McCaskill. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co., a member of Bethune Baptist Church, member of the Lynchwood Masonic Lodge No. 197 in Bethune and a Shriner.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mabel Plyler McCaskill of Bethune; a daughter, Mrs. Sandra Kennington of Cassatt; a sister, Ms. Mildred McCaskill of Bethune; two grandchildren, Chris Kennington of Hartsville and Renee Blackwell of Camden; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

VIRGINIA LOCKHART
JEFFERSON – Services for Virginia Lockhart, 57, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, in Hopewell United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lockhart died Sunday, Feb. 11, in a Charlotte, N.C., hospital after an illness. She was born in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Emsley and Willie Joe Thompson. She attended the public schools in the area and was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. Over the years, she held numerous positions in various auxiliaries.
Surviving are a daughter, Nellie Taylor of Jefferson; a son, Stanley Seegars of Jefferson; three sisters, Frankie Tyson of Washington, D.C., Cynthia Blackwell and Shirley Chambers, both of Jefferson; two brothers, Emsley Lockhart of Jefferson and Richard Lockhart of Pageland; and three grandchildren.

INFANT VARICK BEVEL
Services for Baby Varick L. Bevel, Jr. were held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at the Hartsville Bible Baptist Church with the Rev. Booker T. McPhail officiating. Burial was in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Hines Funeral Home, Inc.
Baby Varick L. Bevel Jr. was born in Portsmouth, Va., a son of Varick L. and Natashia Bevel Sr. He was a happy child that always had a smile on his face and was friendly with everyone.
Surviving other than his parents of Virginia Beach, Va., are one brother, Marco Jalon Bevel, and one sister, Riqtasia Lenora Bevel, both of the home; paternal grandmother, Evelyn Williamson of Hartsville and maternal grandparents, Steve and Mary Edwards of Hartsville. Both maternal and paternal great-grandparents and a host of uncles, aunts and other very close relatives.

ANNE L. McMULLEN
LAMAR – Services for Anne Lundy McMullen, 64, were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, in the Lamar Chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment followed in Lamar Cemetery.
Mrs. McMullen died Thursday, Feb. 15, in a Florence hospital after an illness.
The wife of the late Malcolm McMullen, she was born in Sumter County the daughter of the late Harry Maurice and Margaret Segars Lundy. She was a housewife and attended Elim Bible Church in Effingham.
Surviving are three sons, John L. McMullen of Florence, David E. McMullen of Nevada, and Malcolm N. McMullen also of Florence; two daughters, Sharon Caignon of Middletown, Del., and Mildred A. McMullen of Florence; two grandchildren, Heather A. McMullen and Heath A. McMullen, both of Florence; and a sister, Jann McConnell of Lamar.

ELEANOR COVINGTON
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Services for Eleanor Copeland Covington, formerly of Hartsville, will be held Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Friendly Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery with local arrangements by Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Covington died Thursday, Feb. 15, in a Philadelphia hospital after an illness. She was the daughter of the Minister Eldon Copeland Jr. and the late Margaret Covington. She was a 1979 graduate of Butler High School. After graduation, she moved Detroit, Mich., and later moved to Philadelphia where she worked in nursing and lived until her death.
Survivors include her father, Minister Eldon (Elizabeth) Copeland Jr. of Hartsville; two brothers, Timothy Tyrone Covington of Philadelphia, Pa., and Clayton Alexander of Bennettsville; a sister, Cinnamon Joy Copeland of Detroit, Mich.; maternal grandmother, Mary Lee Covington of Philadelphia; aunts, Annie Lou Copeland of Detroit, Harriett (Tim) Bull, Joyce Simkins and Rosa Lee Davis Copeland, all of Hartsville; an uncle, Willie Covington of Philadelphia; and a special niece, Allegro Cooper of Philadelphia.

SADIE B. HILTON
PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. – A private funeral service for Sadie Bryant Hilton, 76, formerly of Society Hill, will be held at Black Creek Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.
Mrs. Hilton died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at her home after an illness. She was born in Darlington County, the daughter of the late Charlie Jack and Annie Collins Bryant. She was a seamstress by trade. Mrs. Bryant was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Summerville, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Hilton, in 1968.
Survivors include one son, Larry Hilton of Panama City Beach, Fla.; one daughter, Carol Jenkins of Panama City Beach; one brother, John E. Bryant of Patrick; two grandchildren, Brian and James Marker, both of Panama City Beach; and two great-grandchildren, Dillon and Rhyanna Marker, both of Monroeville, Ala.

SHIRLEEN G. STEPHENS
BETHUNE – Services for Shirleen Gardner Stephens, 50, will be held at 2 pm. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Harmony Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Watts Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Brannon Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. Visitation will be tonight, Feb. 21, from 6-8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Stephens, widow of William Benjamin Stephens, died Feb. 20. She was born in Darlington County, a daughter of the late William Hampton and Effie Mae Hall Gardner. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Benjamin and Linda Stephens of Bethune; two grandchildren, Kensey and Chase Stephens both of Bethune; four sisters, Ann Driggers and Betty Martin, both of Bethune, Patty Conner of Emporia, Va., and Janice Hatton of Dinwiddie, Va.; five brothers, Sam and Laverne Gardner of Bethune, Charles and Bill Gardner of McBee and Donald Gardner of Bishopville.
Memorials may be made to Harmony Baptist Church.

JACOB MUMFORD
Jacob (Billy) Mumford, 68, of New York City, N.Y., formerly of Hartsville, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home.

ADA M. KING
McBEE – Services for Ada M. King, 92, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial was in Pines Forest Memorial Cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home of Hartsville.
Mrs. King died Friday, Feb. 16, in Morrell Convalescent Center after an illness.
She was born in Chesterfield County a daughter of the late Sippio Manigoat and Josephine Murphy. She received her education in the public schools of Chesterfield County and was a member of Mt. Pisgah African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Rockingham, N.C.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn (Lester) Hinton of Lancaster, Pa.; two sons, James King and Kenneth (Brenda) King both of Lancaster, Pa.; a sister, Elizabeth Hammounds of Middendolph; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

CLENIE M. WALTERS
BETHUNE – Graveside services for Clenie M. Walters, 91, will be held at 4:30 p.m. at Timrod Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel. The Rev. Carl Watts will officiate.
Mr. Walters died Sunday, Feb. 18. He was born in Kershaw County, was a veteran of WWII and was a retired farmer.
Surviving are one son, Mack Walters of Bethune; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
