CARROLL E. FLOYD
DARLINGTON – Services for Carroll Eugene Floyd, 62, of Darlington, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 8, 2000, in The Church of God of Prophecy. Interment will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Floyd died Monday, Nov. 6, in a local hospital after an illness. He was born
in Darlington County and was the son of Beulah Jordan Floyd and the late Ernest Floyd. He attended Darlington County schools. Having worked for General Motors in Flint, Mich. for 24 years, he retired in 1993. Mr. Floyd attended The Church of God of Prophecy. He enjoyed the outdoors and gardening. Mr. Floyd was preceded in death by his father, and a sister, Patricia Weatherford.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Shirley May Floyd; three sons, Anthony B. Floyd of the home; Carroll E. (Donna) Floyd Jr. and David Floyd Blackwell, both of Darlington; one daughter, Teresa (Bob) Dickerson of Darlington; four sisters, Mrs. R. E. (Carolyn) S. Lee and Mrs. Larry (Brenda) McCutchen, both of Florence, Mrs. Tom (Bobbie) Watkins of Darlington and Mrs. Billy (Debbie) Williamson Boan of Patrick; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way; two special children, Leslie Denise and Jade; and several nieces and nephews.
DWIGHT N. McLENDON
Services for Dwight N. McLendon, 76, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Charles McLendon officiated with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, S.C. Affiliate, 2711 Middleburg Dr. Suit 311, Columbia, S.C. 29204.
Mr. McLendon died Saturday, Nov. 4. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Robert Sidney and Hattie Sylino Barnes McLendon. He was a member of Hartsville Advent Christian Church where he was a former deacon. He retired from Sonoco after 33 years and was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club.
Surviving are his wife, Anne Yarborough McLendon of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Regina McLendon of Florence; daughters and son-in-law, Debbie Faye King of Hartsville, Ruthie and Edward Strickland of Florence; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Pam McLendon of Lydia; sister, Dorothy McLendon King Tollison of Hartsville; and six grandchildren.

Malken Jowers, 82, of Salisbury, N.C., formerly of Jefferson, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in Rowan Regional Medical Center after an illness. Arrangements will be announced by Young & Young Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Route 2, Box 461, Jefferson.

Services for Malken K. Jowers, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in Mt. Elon United Methodist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Jowers died Tuesday, Nov. 7, in a Salisbury, N.C., hospital after an illness. He was born
in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Mack and Carrie Jowers. He was educated in Chesterfield County public schools, a member of Mt. Elon United Methodist Church an an Army veteran of WW II.
Surviving are three sisters, Freder Curry and Cornelia Walton of Jefferson and Doretha Blakney of Pageland; nieces and nephews.

James E. Gibson of Baltimore, Md, formerly of Hartsville, died on Friday, Nov. 3, 2000. He was the brother of Annie Brown and Henry Gibson. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, 913 Myrtle St.

Services for James Edward "Joe" Gibson of Baltimore, Md., formerly of Darlington County, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in Gilbert Hines Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Kelley, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Hines Funeral Home of Hartsville. The family will receive friends at the home of his sister, Annie Lee Brown, 913 Myrtle St.
Mr. Gibson died Friday, Nov. 3. He was born
in the Hartsville community and was the son of the late Johnny and Eddie Lee Woodham Gibson Sr. He was educated in the public schools, graduating from Butler High School, class of 1958. He first moved to Norfolk, Va., and later to Baltimore. He was employed as a building maintenance worker and was a member of the Second Antioch Baptist Church of Baltimore.
Survivors are two sisters, Annie Lee Brown of Hartsville and Elizabeth McIntosh of Baltimore; three brothers, Johnny (Fannie) Gibson Jr. and Charles Gibson of Baltimore and Henry Gibson of Hartsville; an aunt, Marvel Bevel of Hartsville; and an uncle, Clifton (Dorothy) Woodham of Stalbray Long Island, N.Y.

Services for Mary "Monty" Smith Ott, 87, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Fourth Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Hood and the Rev. Dr. Kenny Lynch officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends tonight, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mrs. Ott, widow of Marvin T. Ott Sr., died Monday, Nov. 6. Born in Clearwater, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Thomas Moses and Effie Smith Smith. She was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church and had been active in the choir and WMU. She was retired from Boyd-Powe Drug Company.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Marvin T. 'Butch' and Brenda Ott of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Freddie Dean of Hartsville; sister, Iris Eskew of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Freddie Dean Jr., Mitchell Dean, Vicki Whitaker, Kelly Ott, Karen Stewart; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Russell Dean.

DARLINGTON – Graveside services for Mary Elizabeth Brewer Scarborough, 71, of Darlington, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000 in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mrs. Scarborough died Friday morning, Nov. 3, in a Lexington nursing home after an illness. She was born
in Evergreen, N.C., the daughter of the late Roy and Mamie Smith Brewer. She was the wife of the late Felton Scarborough. Mrs. Scarborough was Baptist by faith.
Surviving are two sons, Richard Smith and Charles Allen Scarborough, both of Lexington; a number of grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Brewer of Columbia and Charles Brewer of Centerville, Ga.; and a sister, Edna Brewer Thompson of Darlington.
GEORGE H. RUSHING
SAVANNAH, Tenn. – Services for George Henning Rushing, 69, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Shackelford Funeral Home Chapel, Savannah, Tenn., Burial was in Lutts Cemetery, Lutts, Tenn.
Mr. Rushing died Friday, Nov. 3, at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. He lived in Jackson Tenn. from 1931 to 1979, in Henderson, Ky. for 12 years and lived in the Big Ivey Community since 1988. Mr. Rushing retired in 1988 from Sonoco Products as master mechanic. He was a member of Madison Hall Baptist Church, Madison Hall Civitan Club, former Boy Scout leader in Madison Hall, and organized Madison Hall Community Fire Dept. of which he was captain for many years. He was a member of Hardin County Fair Board since 1989, worked for Wells & Lassiter Dairy for 21 years (now Turner Dairy).
Survivors include his wife, Laura Franks Rushing of Savannah, Tenn.; daughters, Margaret Ramsey of Jackson, Tenn., Belinda Gambell of Jonesboro, Ariz. and step-daughter, Belinda Fran Sorrell of Memphis, Tenn.; son, George A. (Tony) Rushing of Jackson, Tenn., and step-sons, James Allen Woods, of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Gregory Neal Woods of Lexington, Tenn.; sister, Bernice Doyle of Jackson, Tenn.; half-sisters Shirley Williams and Brenda Rushing, both of Jackson, Tenn.; six half-brothers, Leon Rushing, Jerry Rushing, Jimmy Rushing, Robert Rushing, Henry Rushing and Virgil Rushing Jr., all of Jackson, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

BETHUNE – Services for Samantha Joy Sullivan, 15, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd Robinson and the Rev. Jack Burnett officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home of Hartsville. Miss Sullivan died Nov. 5 in Kershaw County as a result of an auto accident. She was born
in Kershaw County, a daughter of William C. and Joyce Thompson Sullivan. She was a 10th-grade student at the Bethune Charter School where she was a cheerleader, a member of the journalism staff, vice president of her class and a member of SADD. Surviving are her parents of Bethune; three sisters, Mrs. Crystal Johnson and Miss Miranda Sullivan, both of Bethune, and Mrs. Missy Fountain of Bishopville; and her paternal grandparents, Randolph and Bonnie Sullivan of Bethune.
ELLEN VAUGHAN
LAMAR – Services for Ellen Vaughan, 89, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Mt. Elon Baptist Church with the Rev. Art Zawislak officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Elon Church Cemetery Fund.
Mrs. Vaughan died Sunday, Nov. 5. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Oscar Wiley and Nannie Dowling Vaughan. She was a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church. She retired from Sonoco after 33 years of service and was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club.
Surviving are her sister, Ethel Durant of Darlington, and several nieces and nephews.
LUCILLE SMITH
Services for Lucille Smith, 91, of Society Hill, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Bethesda Baptist Church in Society Hill with the Rev. Byron Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith died Monday, Nov. 6, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born
in Society Hill, a daughter of the late Lewis and Allie Anderson Prince. She was educated in Darlington County public schools. She was married
to the late Mack Sanders. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Order of Easter Star No. 128 of Society Hill and worked as a cook for the school system.
Survivors are six daughters, Lala (Johnnie) Douglas of Society Hill, Ethel Gillian of Mechanicsville, Va., Alma Hackett and Gladys Watkins of Montclair, N.J., Elease Smith of New York, N.Y., and Ann (Lonnie) Samuel of Columbia; five sons, William (Marie) Swiney of Society Hill, Edward (Patricia) Swiney of Bloomfield, N.J., Gordan Swiney of Irvington, N.J., Robert Smith of Cheraw, and Albert Smith of Waterbury, Conn; and 38 grandchildren.
