HENRY M. WILLIAMS
DARLINGTON – Services for Henry Mick Williams, 78, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, in Round O Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael McMillian, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. Williams died Friday, Feb. 23, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late George and Lula Spencer Williams. He was educated in the Darlington County public schools. He was a World War II veteran and faithful member of Round O Baptist Church. He lived most of his life in Darlington County, where he was employed at Burlington Industries in Society Hill from which he retired, and later employed at Clanton Auto Sales of Darlington from which he also retired.
Survivors include his devoted wife, Mrs. Elouise S. Williams of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Margie (Carl) Goodson, Mrs. Betty (Fred) Rutherford, both of Darlington, and Ms. Henrietta Hickman of New Jersey; three sons, Henry (Gloria) Williams Jr. of Darlington, George (Linda) Williams of Dallas, Texas, and Bruce Lee Williams of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Grace Murray of Darlington, Mrs. Hattie Mae Thrope of Greenville and Mrs. Ester Jackson of Philadelphia, Pa.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
J. B. AMMONS
Services for J. B. Ammons, 70, will be held at 3 p.m Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Prospect United Methodist Church. The Rev. Bud Boatwright will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Prospect United Methodist Church, 2236 Bethlehem Rd., Hartsville, S.C. 29550.
Mr. Ammons died Monday, Feb. 26. Born in Chesterfield County, he was a son of the late Knox Livingston and Mary Louise Boone Ammons. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, a graduate of Clemson University, a Korean Conflict veteran, a retired farmer, and the former owner and operator of Sandy Point Golf Course.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce McInville Ammons of Hartsville; a son, Donnie R. Morrison of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Scott Willard of Chester; brother, Jack Ammons of Greer; sister and brother-in-law, Miriam and Jack Alford of Hartsville; grandchildren, Donyelle Morrison, Melia Willard, Andy Morrison and Ashley Morrison.
JACOB MUMFORD
Services for Jacob (Billy) Mumford, 68, were held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, in Green Hill Baptist Church. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mr. Mumford died Sunday, Feb. 18, in a Queens, N.Y., hospital. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Roosevelt and Rose Lee Jackson Mumford. He received his education in Darlington County public schools. He was an Army veteran and was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ernestine Mumford of Queens, N.Y.; two daughters, Cathy Milner of Freeport, N.Y., and Tanisha Mumford of St. Albany, N.Y.; a son, Jeffrey Mumford of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four sisters, Lucille Mumford, Margaret Holmes and Mattie McFarland, all of Hartsville, and Mary Campbell of Fort Washington, Md.; a brother, Roosevelt Mumford Jr. of Queens Village, N.Y., and grandchildren.
THEO R. THOMPSON
DARLINGTON – Services for Theo Robert Thompson, 77, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, at First Baptist Church with interment following in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. Mr. Thompson died Monday, Feb. 26, in a Florence hospital after an extended illness. He was born
July 23, 1923, the son of the late William Calvin and Ada Ruth Carter Thompson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Thompson was an insurance agent for over 40 years and retired from United Insurance Company of America. He was a member of First Baptist Church where he had served as president of the Vance Hardin Sunday School Class for many years and had been an active deacon in the church.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Buie Thompson of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and James Leach of Charlotte, Wanda and James Pettus of Landsdale, Pa., and Angie and Daniel Hyman of Darlington; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alton E. Thompson of Dovesville.
Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by two brothers, William E. Thompson and Davis A. "Billy" Thompson; and one sister, Emmie Oliver T. Weaver.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 tonight, Wednesday, at the funeral home.

MURRELLS INLET – Services for Alfred "Al" W. Higbee Jr., 69, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, in Murrells Inlet. Mr. Higbee died Monday, Feb. 19, at Prince George Health Care in Georgetown. He was born
Sept. 16, 1931, in Somers Point, N.J., a son of Bertha Trapp of Somers Point and the late Alfred W. Higbee. He was a member of Living Faith Church of Myrtle Beach and the Elks of Myrtle Beach. He was a general manager of South Strand Cab Co. of Murrells Inlet.
Survivors include his wife, Janis Higbee of Murrells Inlet; his mother, a daughter, Judi Elvington of Hartsville; a grandson, E. Lloyd Kiefer III; a sister, Betty Chandler of Ocean City, N.J.; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Voncile Young.
MARY L. BURRELL
DARLINGTON – Services for Mary Louise Brown Sansbury Burrell were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, in St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. James E. Moore, pastor. Burial followed in Darlington Memorial Cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Burrell died Saturday, Feb. 24, in a Florence hospital after a sudden illness. She was born
in Darlington, a daughter of the late Arthur and Louise Rouse Brown Sr.
Survivors include four children, Roland (Cathelene) Sansbury of Florence, Ms. Robin Davis Young of Raleigh, N.C., Ms. Carol Sansbury and Mrs. Pamela (Quincy) Adams, both of Darlington; a grandson she reared as her own, Bernard Sawyer of the home; six other grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.
CHRISTINE D. HARRELL
DARLINGTON – Services for Christine Dubose Harrell were held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, in House of God Keith Dominion, Wilson Road, with Elder Elijah Green, pastor, and the Rev. Joe Deas officiating. Burial followed in Florence National Cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Harrell, 49, died Sunday, Feb. 25, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born
in Lee County, a daughter of Norsessor and Cathleen Vaughn Dubose. She attended Florence County public schools and was a graduate of Wilson High School Class of Ô70. She continued her education at Florence-Darlington Technical College. She was a member of Peaceful Missionary Baptist Church in Timmonsville where she served on the Ensemble Choir and treasurer of the Pastor's Aide. She was a former employee of Tanker Bell Nursery and worked at Petro Truck Stop.
Survivors include her husband, James Harrell of the home; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Norsessor Dubose of Florence; four loving daughters, Ms. Lakebra Harrell, Ms. Rakeia Harrell, Keri Harrell, all of the home, and Ms. Janetra Harrell of Charlotte, N.C.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys M. White and Julia Davis; two brothers, George Dubose and Thomas Dubose; uncles and aunts; mother-in-law, Mrs. Olivia Harrell; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Jackie Everett.

DARLINGTON – Memorial services for Mrs. Merle Hodge Byrd, 88, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Mrs. Byrd died Sunday, March 4, in a Darlington nursing home. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Roby Smith and Lillie Locklair Hodge. She was the widow of W. R. Byrd and was associated with Byrd Plumbing Company. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, William Richard and Donna Byrd of Darlington; a daughter, Rose Anne Byrd Lewis also of Darlington; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Minnie Rose Hinson of Charlotte and Lillie Mae Hodge of Walterboro. Mrs. Byrd was predeceased by a brother, Alex Hodge.
FREDDIE A. PAITSEL
Services for Freddie Allen Paitsel, 57, were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Carroll Hall officiating. Burial was at 3 p.m. at the Florence National Cemetery.
Mr. Paitsel was born
in Clifton Forge, Va., a son of the late Leonard and Euva Tucker Paitsel. He was retired operator of Fred's Mobile Homes, member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of the Moose, attended Bible Baptist Church and was a Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Dolly Shields Paitsel of Hartsville; daughter, Sherry DiGiorgio of Pasedena, Md., step-daughter, Shanda Anderson of Hartsville; three brothers, Donald Paitsel of Charleston, W. Va. and Richard and Robert Paitsel of Princeton, W. Va.; a grandson, Justin DiGiorgio, and two step-daughters, Kristen and Dalen Anderson.
SIDNEY H. BOYD SR.
DARLINGTON– Grave-side services for Sidney H. Boyd Sr., 78, will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 7, 2001, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbia directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Boyd died Monday, March 5, in a Columbia hospital. Born in Gastonia, N.C., he was a son of the late Walter Pleasant Boyd Sr. and Ettie Howell Boyd Vinson and grew up in Union, S.C. A U.S. Navy Seebee veteran of World War II, he served in the Southwest Pacific theater. He retired from Southern Bell Telephone Co. with more than 40 years of service. Mr. Boyd was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church in Columbia and was also active in Gideon International for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Martin Boyd of Darlington; one son and daughter-in-law, Sidney and Carol Boyd, also of Darlington; one daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jim Edenfield of Greensboro, N.C. and seven grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon International Memorial Bible Fund or North Trenholm Baptist Church.
