Funeral services for Laretta May Kohler Smith, 94, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2001, at the chapel of Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Debra Boynton officiating.
Funeral services in York, Pa., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Mount Rose Cemetery. The family will receive friends an hour before services at Etzweiler Funeral Home on Saturday.
Mrs. Smith died Tuesday, June 19. She was born
in Lower Windsor Township, York County, Pa. She was the third child of 11 of the late George Edward and Alice Cora Oleweiler Kohler. Mrs. Smith resided in Red Lion RD2 until after her retirement in 1971, when she and her husband moved to Hartsville. She retired from the American Chain and Cable Company in 1971 after 32 years of service. She was a former member of Christ Lutheran Church, York Grace Lutheran, Red Lion, and a member of Our Shepherd Lutheran in Hartsville.
Surviving are three sons, Edward Clark Smith from Hartsville, Gene Carlton Smith from Pasadena, Calif., Jack Winfred Smith from Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Beatrice Shenberger from York, Pa. and Delores Halterman from Osage, Iowa.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Edward Smith Jr., and one son, Charles Edward Smith III.

TONEY YARBOROUGH
Graveside services for Toney Allen Yarborough, 40, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2001, in the First Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery. The Revs. Alvin Rogers and Dale Broadway will officiate and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge.
Mr. Yarborough died Monday, June 18, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Bobby Yarborough and Ruth Jeanette Moody Yarborough.
Surviving are his father and step-mother, Bobby and Elizabeth Easterling Yarborough of Hartsville; mother, Ruth Jeanette Moody Yarborough of Hartsville; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
JOHN WILDEBOER
Graveside services for John Wildeboer, 90, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Jeri Parris Perkins and Peter Case Wildeboer will officiate, and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge. Mr. Wildeboer died Thursday, June 21, 2001. Born in Paterson, N.J., he was a son of the late Peter and Anna Veenstra Wildeboer. He grew up and was educated in Wilmington, N.C., and attended Rutgers University. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a World War II veteran and was retired from retail farm machinery and auto sales.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Sara Kelley Wildeboer of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Sherry and Charles Macaluso of Blythewood, S.C., and Joan Wildeboer of Hartsville; grandchildren, James Simon Boyd, Sara Lanie Boyd, Charles Macaluso Jr.; and brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Barbara Wildeboer of Wilmington, N.C. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Neal, and a brother, Gerald Wildeboer.
KELVIN N. WRIGHT
DARLINGTON – Services for Kelvin N. Wright, 45, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, in Shiloh United Methodist Church with the Rev. W. C. James officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mr. Wright died Monday, June 18, at his mother's residence after a sudden illness. He was born
in Washington, D.C., a son of Mrs. Evelyn P. Dials Wright and the late Nathaniel Wright. He attended the Catholic schools in Washington, D. C. and earned a B.S. degree in computer science and an associate degree in business from Strayer College in Washington, D.C.
He was employed by Advance Computer Company of Washington for 10 years. After moving to Darlington, he was employed by Champus Blue/Cross Blue Shield and at the time of his death he was employed as a loan officer at First Future State Mortgage of Florence.
Survivors include his devoted mother, Mrs. Evelyn P. Wright; an aunt, Mrs. Lula G. Thomas of Corona Long Island, N.Y.; a great aunt, Mrs. Blanche Kirven of Cleveland, Ohio; a host of other relatives.
The family is receiving friends at the home of his mother, 3320 Lamar Highway, Darlington.
T. BRUCE SMITH
Graveside services for Thomas Bruce Smith, 89, were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, June 25, 2001, in Bethlehem Cemetery, Bishopville. The Revs. Matthew Boyles and Bizand Gainey officiated with Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Smith died Saturday, June 23, 2001. Born in Bishopville, the 12th of 14 children, he was a son of the late J. Manly and Tascher Bruce Smith. He was founder of BoSmith Furniture Corp. and was a businessman in the Pee Dee Area for 68 years. He was a devout Christian, instrumental in organizing the First Church of God Reformation of Hartsville on Kelleytown Road where he worshipped for over 52 years. He was affectionately known to his family and friends as 'Big Daddy.'
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mary Ethel Huggins Smith originally of Bishopville; sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Dorothy Smith of Bishopville, Karl and Jo Ann Smith of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Lynn and Howard Gainey of Hartsville, Sara and Phil Odom of Hartsville, Argent and Dillard Jacobs of Columbia; sister, Reba S. Mrs. Howle, widow of William G. Howle Jr., died Sunday, June 24, 2001. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Asbury A. and Annie McElveen Caston. She was a member of Swift Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Bobby Lucas of Hartsville; sisters, Lucille C. Elmore of Florence, and Annie Dell C. Tolson of Conway; grandchildren, James H. Lucas of Hartsville, and Alyson L. Heath of North Augusta; great-grandchildren, Carol Ann Arant of North Augusta and William G. Lucas of Hartsville.

Funeral services for Ruby King 'Cookie' Johnson, 44, were held at 3 p. m. Sunday, June 24, 2001, at North Hartsville Baptist Church. The Revs. Ladell Humphries and Dr. Richard Bailey officiated with burial in Union United Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Friday, June 22, 2001. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of Ruby Lyles King and the late John Manning King Sr. She was a member of North Hartsville Baptist Church and was employed with MSD of Darlington for 18 years.
Surviving are her husband, Roy Johnson of Hartsville; daughters, Lisa Johnson and Kelli Johnson, both of Hartsville; mother, of Hartsville; brothers, John Manning King Jr. of Hartsville, and Randy Wayne King of Cheraw; and grandchild, Madison Alexis Tucker.

Funeral services for Joseph Leslie Jordan, 67, were held at 2 p. m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dave Worthington officiated with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Jordan died Friday, June 22, 2001. Born in Hartsville, he was a son of the late Charles Leon and Iva Mae Harrelson Jordan. He was a retired master sergeant with 28 years of service in the U. S. Air Force. He was also retired as the print shop manager for Florence County School District 1.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Stokes Jordan of Hartsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph L. and Kathy Jordan of Glen Burnie, Md., Charlie W. Jordan of Hartsville, and John Barry Jordan of Hartsville; brother, Charles Jordan of Hartsville; grandchildren, Joseph L. Jordan III, Kira L. Pointer, Jessica Anne Jordan and John Barry Jordan Jr.

SARA B. WELDON
Memorial services for Sara Brearley Weldon, 96, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2001, in the chapel at the Presbyterian Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to The Presbyterian Home, Lexington, S.C., or to Faith Memorial Chapel, Cedar Mountain, N.C.
Miss Weldon, affectionately known as 'Sally, ' died Thursday, June 21. Born in Lee County, on Oct. 19, 1904, she was the first child of the late Ariel Koga and Wilhemina 'Daisy' Scott Weldon. At the time of her death, Miss Weldon was a resident of the Presbyterian Home, Lexington, and a member of Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Church.
A 1926 graduate of Winthrop College, Miss Weldon taught elementary school in Derita, N.C., and in Piedmont, Great Falls and Hartsville. She was a former member of Hartsville Presbyterian Church. She spent her summers at Camp Burgress Glen in Cedar Mountain, N.C., where she led nature studies, taught arts and crafts and was transportation director. After retiring from teaching, Miss Weldon resided at her cottage, 'Sally's Valley, ' in Cedar Mountain. There, she continued her nature walks, engaged in civic beautification and attended Faith Memorial Chapel.
Surviving are sisters, Mrs. Philip (Billie) Porcher of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Virginia Scott Weldon of Lexington; a brother, Hugh W. Weldon and his wife, Jean, of Columbia; sister-in-law, Mrs. John W. (Lou) Weldon of Atlantic Beach, Fla.; nieces, nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews.
