DELBERT J. VAUGHN
DARLINGTON - Funeral services for Delbert J. Vaughn, 89, were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashland, Ken.
Mr. Vaughn died Thursday, May 31, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born
in Van Leer, Ken., the son of the late John and Mattie Wolf Vaughn. He was married
to the late Ethel C. Neil Vaughn. He was a foreman in the coal mines for many years and currently attended Freedom Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, David R. Vaughn of Simpsonville; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Ronna V.) Askins and Ms. Sara M. Price, both of Darlington; four grandchildren, Greg Askins, Marsha Lee Askins, Marian Louise Askins, Blake Price; two great-grandchildren, Chris Askins and Zack Askins; and one sister, Juanita Miles of San Diego, Calif.
Mr. Vaughn was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Vaughn and Hubert Vaughn.

NOVEL M. HUNTLEY
DARLINGTON - Services for Novel Morris Huntley, 75, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment followed in Grove Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Huntley died Thursday, May 31, at her residence after an extended illness. She was born
in Williamsburg County, the daughter of the late T. J. and Nita Fulton Morris. She graduated from Andrews High School and McLeod Infirmary School of Nursing. She was a registered nurse at McLeod, Wilson Clinic and Hospital, and retired from DHEC after 22 years. Mrs. Huntley was a member of First Baptist Church and the Smyre Bible Study Group of the Ruth Sunday School class of the church. She was also a member of Young at Heart Senior Citizens Group, and St. David's Chapter of the Eastern Star where she served as the Past Matron.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Preston T. Huntley of the home; a daughter, Juanita "Nita" Huntley of Darlington, a step-son, Preston T. Huntley of Florence; a step-grandson, Preston T. Huntley II of Blythewood; a step-great-grandchild, Faith Elizabeth Huntley; one brother, Heyward G. Morris of Conway, and a nephew, Jack Morris of Georgetown.
Mrs. Huntley was preceded in death by a brother, Luther H. Morris, and a step-grandson, Patrick Miles Huntley.

Mr. Frank Arthur Johnson died Sunday, June 3, 2001, at McLeod Regional Medical Center. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the residence at 1212 Robinson Street.
MARTHA JOHNSON
DARLINGTON - Services for Martha "Mott" Johnson, 59, were held at 4 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, in New Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roberta Josey, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Monday, May 28, at her residence after a long illness. She was born
in Camden, the daughter of the late Tom and Gracie Mae Murphy. She was a widow of Roosevelt Johnson. She attended Camden High School and graduated from Butler High School. She was a member of New Providence United Methodist Church. Mrs. Johnson was a former employee of Nytronics of Darlington until 1979.
She was preceded in death by three children, Patricia Ann, Barbara Ann and Roosevelt Jr. and a grandson, Larry Gundy Jr.; four brothers also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Gloria (Larry) Gandy of Darlington and Mrs. Bernetha (Maurice) Cooper of Sumter; three sons, Foster (Rhonda) Johnson, Frankie (Genita) Johnson and Junior (Julie) Johnson, all of Darlington; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Willie Mae (Andrew) Douglas of Darlington, Mrs. Mary Lee Fountain of Sanford, N.C., and Gracie Mae (Hank) Gurley of New Jersey; two brothers, John Henry (Louise) Murphy of Hartsville and Frank (Fannie) Murphy Jr. of Sanford, N.C.; mother-in-law, Mrs. Ola Mae Douglas of Florence; aunts; uncles; sisters and brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews.
DONELLA THOMAS
DARLINGTON - Services for Donelle "Bobbie" Thomas, 65, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2001, in The House of God Church in Florence with the Rev. Elijah Green, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in Faith Memorial Gardens directed by Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thomas died on Monday, May 28, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was both in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Melvin and Donella Williams Green. She received her education in the Darlington County public schools and was a graduate of Mayo High School and Florence-Darlington Technical College. At an early age, she joined Providence United Methodist Church. She lived all of her life in Darlington County, where she was gainfully employed as a dietitian at Bethea Baptist Home, Faith Nursing Care Facility and Commander Nursing Home from which she retired.
Survivors include her husband, Willard Thomas Sr. of Delray Beach, Fla.; two daughters, Willie Mae Thomas Smith (Randolph) and Cynthia Thomas (Ronald) Jackson, both of Darlington; seven sons, Wilbur (Scooter) Thomas Jr., Eric Thomas, Jimmy (Betty) Thomas, Archie Lee Thomas, Calvin B. (Sarah) Thomas, all of Darlington and Gerald "Abduel Hakeem" (Elizabeth) Thomas of Florence; 45 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Edward (Gladys) Green of Delray Beach, Fla.; Melvin (Edna) Green of Finkler, Boyd Green of Nichols and Clyde (Elizabeth) Green of Darlington; two brothers-in-law, Junior Thomas of Delray Beach, Fla., and McNeil Thomas of Brownsville, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Ms. Alberta Bruce of Jersey City, N.J.; two special daughters, Cynthia McCray and Clara James; a special niece, Rose Chandler of N.Y.; other nieces and nephews.

Mr. Jones, husband of Hazel L. Jones, died Thursday, May 31, 2001. Born in Harnett County, N.C., he was a son of the late William and Sadie Jones. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theater. Until his retirement in 1980, he was the manager of Belks. He served as chairman of the Merchants Division and for 20 years, he served as chairman of the Parking and Beautification Committee. He was a Commander of VFW Post 9228. He was a member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge # 173 and a Shriner.
Surviving are his wife of Hartsville; daughter, Mrs. Barbara J. Crocker of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Thomas L. Crocker of Jacksonville, Fla., Louise C. Taylor of Beaverton, Ore., Leigh Shuster of Castle Rock, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Mandy and Casey Shuster of Castle Rock, Colo.

Mr. Huggins, husband of Connie Lawton Huggins, died Sunday, June 3, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Heyward and Vermelle Gainey Huggins. He was a member of West Hartsville Baptist Church. He retired from Sonoco after 43 years and was a member of the Old Timers and Retirees. He was a member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge # 173 and Omar Temple of the Shrine.
Surviving are his wife of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Janet Huggins of Belvidere, Ill.; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Thomas M. Frazier and Sally Ann P. Yarborough, both of Hartsville, Cathy Lou P. and Thomas Jones of Liburn, Ga., Jane P. and Fred Boykin of Decater, Ga.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, June Huggins.

Mrs. O'Neal, widow of Holland O'Neal, died Saturday, June 2, 2001. She was a daughter of the late William T. Bedenbaugh and Annie Bedenbaugh Frye. She was a member of Black Creek Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene D. and Ingrid O'Neal of Blythewood, Thomas H. and Dawn O'Neal of Charlotte, N.C., Doyle W. and Cindy O'Neal of Hartsville; brother, Kenneth Bedenbaugh of South Carolina; sister, Betty Smith of South Carolina; six grandchildren.
LOUIE W. THOMPSON
Services for Louie W. Thompson, 80, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. John Hamilton officiating. Burial was in the Westview Memorial Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. Thompson died Sunday, June 3. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Jessie A. and Eva Eloise Goodson Thompson. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. after 42 years of service, member of the Old Timers Club, Hartsville Masonic Lodge, Emmanuel Baptist Church and was a WWII Navy veteran.
Surviving are his wife: Mrs. Agnes Truett Thompson of Hartsville; two sons, Louis Wayne Thompson of Gainesville, Fla., and Mickey Thompson of Rome, Ga.; five grandchildren, Lindsey and Lauren Thompson of the University of South Carolina Mandi Thompson of Atlanta, Ga.; Laura Thompson of Georgia Tech, Brad Thompson of Clemson University; one brother, Marion Joseph Thompson of Florence; three sisters, Mrs. Becky Hester of Bryson City, N.C., Mrs. Virginia Cooper of Wilmington, N.C., and Mrs. Myrtle Humphries of Florence.
