Services for John G. "Jake" Johnson, 67, will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 13, 2001, at Prospect United Methodist Church. The Revs. Bud Boatwright, Homer Hinson and Paul Cheezem will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, April 10, 2001. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Malone and Bessie Johnson Johnson. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church and retired as owner and operator of Johnson Repair Service.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Wilks Johnson of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Peggy Johnson of Hartsville; daughters and sons-in-law, Sherrie and Kenny Cassidy of Chesterfield, Becky and Rick Phipps of Florence, Denise and Adam Gilbert of Hartsville; sisters, Lina Mae Alexander of Matthews, N.C., and Georgia Johnson of Chesterfield; grandchildren, Amy Cassidy, Carrie C. Walters, Jonathan Phipps, Megan Johnson, Ashley Phipps, April Gilbert, Amy Gilbert; great-grandchild, Charity Walters. He was predeceased by his brothers, Russell Johnson and Monroe Johnson.
BEULAH JOHNSON
Services for Beulah Leviner Johnson, 87, will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 13, 2001, at Prospect United Methodist Church. The Revs. Bud Boatwright and Paul Cheezem will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday, April 11. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late Gurley and Maggie Smith Leviner. She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church and retired from Leggs, Inc.
Surviving are her sons, David Johnson, Larry R. Johnson, William H. Johnson, all of Hartsville, Wilson Holley of Camden; daughters, Freida Barriso of Davie, Fla.; Phyllis Burnum of Carrollton, Ga., Bertha Sue Atkinson of Hartsville, Betty Watts of Jefferson; sisters, Elizabeth Holley of Charleston, Mary Lou Odom of Darlington; 21 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
ASHLEY G. HELMS
OATES – Services for Ashley Grace Helms, 15, will be held at 3 p.m. today, April 13, 2001, at Mt. Elon Baptist Church on Highway 15 in Lydia. Interment will follow in Elim United Methodist Church Cemetery, Oates Highway, directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.
Ashley was born
in Darlington County, the beloved daughter of Milton Raymond and Donna Lynn Kirby Helms. She attended elementary school in Lamar and for the past four years was a student at Robert E. Lee Academy and a member of Mt. Elon Baptist Church. She was a member of the junior varsity softball team and enjoyed spending time with her many friends.
Surviving in addition to her parents of the home are her maternal grandparents, C.D. and Brenda Kirby of Oates; paternal grandparent, Lou Easter Helms of Hartsville; her great-grandmother, Alice Kirby of Timmonsville; and a number of aunts and uncles, cousins and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Milton Raymond Helms Sr.

WILLIAM HOWARD JR.
DARLINGTON – Graveside services for William Howard Jr., 59, will be held at 10 a.m. today, April 13, 2001, in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home.
Mr. Howard was born
in Florence County, the son of the late William and Juanita Graham Howard. He was a farmer and a member of Darlington Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Kelley Howard of the home; a son, William (Jennifer) Howard III of Darlington; two daughters, Mrs. William (Elizabeth Howard) Young of St. Charles, Mo., and Nita Howard of Taos Ski Valley, N.M.; a grandchild, Davis Young of St. Charles, Miss.; one brother, Richard Howard Sr. of Pawley's Island; father of his wife and a special friend, Billy (Lenora) Kelley of Hartsville; a step-son, Lee (Lenora) Matthews of Hartsville; a step-daughter, Mrs. Scot (Candace) Hoffman of Hartsville; and four step-grandchildren, Scot, Kayla, Jordan and Austin.

Services for Luther Lawrence Hall, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 13, 2001, at First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. Bob Cline will officiate with burial in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Mr. Hall died Wednesday, April 11. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Albert O. and Fannie Davis Hall. He was a member of First Baptist Church, a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a veteran of W.W. II and a P.O.W. He retired from Sonoco after 41 years of service and was a member of the Sonoco Old Timers Club.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Jacqueline Redic Hall of Hartsville; son and daughter-in-law, Arnold and Janet Hall of Hartsville; daughter and son-in-law, Annette and Claude Wint; grandchildren, Bryan Hall, Shannon Bigelow, Hillary Wint, Jason Wint, Lauren Wint; and three great-grandchildren.
ELEANOR P. HICKS
LAMAR – Services for Eleanor Parnell Hicks, 77, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Lamar United Methodist Church with interment following in Lamar Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar.
Mrs. Hicks was born
in Darlington County, daughter of the late Paul Hennis and Jenny Arrants Parnell. She was married
to the late Theodore Hicks. She was a housewife and member of Lamar United Methodist Church where she played the piano for several years.
Surviving are a son, Gerry Hicks of Lamar; a grandson, Paul Hicks of Lamar; a granddaughter, Michelle Yates of Florence; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Coker of Lamar; a niece, Paula Coker, and a nephew, Bobby Coker, both of Lamar.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hicks.
The family will receive friends this evening, Friday, from 7 to 9 at the funeral home in Lamar.

Services for Rowena Skinner Beasley, 98, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Hebron United Methodist Church. Mrs. Beasley, widow of Willis Russell Beasley, died Wednesday, April 11. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Hugh Middleton and Henry Eva Woodham Skinner. She was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Hugh and Martha Ann Beasley of Hartsville; son-in-law, David Hutto of Swansea; daughter and son-in-law, Milford and Harry Kea of Columbia; sister, Frances Hewitt of Bishopville; grandchildren, Joan Marie Kelly, Bert Beasley, Terry Beasley, Eddie Kea, Scott Kea, David Kea, (Little) David Hutto; great-grandchildren, Alyson Davis, Selena Mooring, Sarah Jeffords, Kelly Kea, Katherine Kea, Jake Kea, Joseph Kelly; and a special daughter-in-law, Lillian Barnett of Hartsville. She was predeceased by a son, Douglas Beasley, and a daughter, Alice Hutto.
ALLEAN B. BRYANT
CHARLOTTE – Services for Allean Betty Bryant, 78, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Hartsville, will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Living Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith, 4920 E. W. T. Harris Blvd. in Charlotte with Elder Ronnie L. Parson, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time for the service.
Mrs. Bryant died on Sunday, April 8, at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews, N.C.
Survivors include three sons, Army SFC Rocky L. Bryant (Brenda) of Pennsylvania, Marshall Bryant (Debbie) of Wingate, N.C., and Laren James of Paterson, N.J.; four daughters, Lois Bryant of Paterson, N.J., Mary Ayala, Diane Belk and Jennie Kyser (Gregory), all of Charlotte; 24 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. King's Funeral Home of Charlotte is serving the Bryant family.
JAMES W. BRIGMAN
Services for James Willie (J.W.) Brigman, 63, were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at Edwards Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Traywick and Danny Pierce officiating. Burial was in the Hurst Cemetery in Chesterfield directed by Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville Chapel.
Mr. Brigman died Sunday, March 25. He was born
in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Willie David and Marie Dixon Brigman. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church of Cheraw and was retired from Roller Bearing Corp.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Patricia Lampley Brigman of Hartsville; two sons, Darrell Wayne and James R. Brigman; one daughter, Ms. Theresa Brigman, all of Hartsville; three grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Edell Edwards of Society Hill, Mrs. Mae Belle Buie of Patrick and Mrs. Pauline Gainey of Hartsville.

Services for Marguerite Matthews Munn, 82, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2001, at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Boswell officiated with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Munn, widow of Lawrence Hamilton Munn, died Friday March 23, 2001. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Odie Cleveland and Fanny Mae Parrott Matthews. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church. Mrs. Munn was a housewife, mother and grandmother of all.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in law, Bobby (Joan) Munn of Marietta, Ga., Frankie Munn of Newport, Tenn., Jimmy (Linda Ann) Munn, Jackie Munn, Ronnie Munn, Wayne Munn, all of Hartsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue (Kenny) Mills of Wichita, Kan., and Celeste (Bennie) Crowley of Hartsville; a brother, Odie Matthews of Florence; 20 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Cecil, and a granddaughter, Shelia M. Benedict.
