DARLINGTON Services for John Elbert Flowers, 47, will be held at 4 p.m. today, April 25, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Indian Branch Cemetery.
Mr. Flowers died Sunday evening, April 22, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was born
in Darlington County, the son of the late Cephas Coleman and Susie Suggs Flowers. He was a farmer and was associated with Ace Welding Co. Mr. Flowers enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are two brothers, Jimmy (Dolly) Flowers and Jesse (Dora Lynn) Flowers, both of Darlington; four sisters, Betty Flowers (Tom) Kleespie of Florence, Sue Flowers of Darlington, Jeanie Flowers (Gregg) Young of Florence and Marcia Ham Walker of Florence; and a number of nieces, great nieces and great nephews. Mr. Flowers was preceded in death by a nephew, Eddie Ham.
PAUL M. STOKES
Graveside services for Paul Maurice Stokes, 79, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2001, in Darlington Memory Gardens Cemetery. The Rev. Dave Worthington officiated and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. Memorials may be made to South Hartsville Baptist Church.
Mr. Stokes died Saturday, April 21. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Leon Whitner and Hattie Lloyd Stokes. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was retired from Sonoco Products Co. and was a member of the WOW.
Surviving are his wife, Eula Howell Stokes of Hartsville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Maurice and Annette Stokes Jr. of Stockbridge, Ga., Edwin and Barbara Stokes of Darlington; four sisters, Dot Malphus and Betty Jordan, both of Hartsville, Ruby Adams of Oates and Eva Mae Perkins of Denton, Va.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
TONY M. WEAVER
LAMAR Graveside services for Tony Michael Weaver, 39, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2001, in Newman Swamp Cemetery, directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.
Mr. Weaver died Thursday at his residence after an illness.
He was born
in Florence County, the son of the late Elbert and Anzy Lee Weaver. He was a graduate of Hudgens Academy and was employed by Stephens Inventory. Mr. Weaver attended Newman Swamp United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Buddy (Linda) Stewart of Lamar; two brothers, Bob (Ellen) Weaver and Robin (Gail) Weaver, both of Lamar; three nieces; one nephew; three great-nephews and a special aunt, Ruby Huggins of Lamar.

HELEN B. GOODSON
WEST COLUMBIA, S.C. Services for Helen Bigham Goodson, 82, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at Northside Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the church and also after the service at the home of Kyle and Barbara Watson, 215 Quail Lane, West Columbia. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Hartsville, at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 26, and the family will receive friends from 11 to 12 noon at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.

Ms. Goodson died Monday, April 23, 2001. Born in Great Falls, S.C., she was a daughter of the late William Hicklin and Mary Wilma Brantley Bigham. Prior to her retirement, she was associated with the medical practice of her son in West Columbia.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Charles T. Goodson of Lexington, S.C., Jay Kyle and Barbara Watson of West Columbia; James Russell and Trudi Watson of Hartsville; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving daughter, Jeralene G. Atkinson; brother, Lawrence Bigham; sisters, Arletris Powell, Mary B. King and Vera King.
WILEY R. EDENS
DARLINGTON Services for Wiley Reynolds Edens, 75, will be held at 4 p.m. today, April 25, 2001, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Mr. Edens died Monday, April 23, in a local hospital. He was born
on Nov. 25, 1925, in Roland, N.C. He was the son of the late Leon Douglas and Esther Maness Edens. He was graduated from Lumber-ton High School in Lumber-ton, N.C. Mr. Edens attended Duke University and William and Mary College and was graduated from N.C. State University in 1950. He entered the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. Mr. Edens was married
to Ouida Claire Allen on May 13, 1956. He moved to Darlington and was employed by Darlington Veneer Company from 1950 until his retirement in 1988. Mr. Edens was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Wiley was an avid golfer and was affectionately known to his friends as "The Legend".
Mr. Edens was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Richard D. Edens, Robert F. Edens and Frank M. Edens; and a sister, Olivia P. Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Ouida Allen Edens of the home; four daughters, Ren (Thomas E.) Palles of Florence, Rosanna (M. Wayne) Dudley of Darlington, Elizabeth (D. Windsor) Barringer of Chattanooga, Tenn., Ester (Charles B.) DuBose Jr.of Florence; and nine grandchildren, Thomas Mitchell Palles, Ryan Reynolds Palles, Demi Allen Palles, Marshall Wayne Dudley Jr., Laney Catherine DuBose, Charles Brooks DuBose III, Brice Edens DuBose, Coleman Elizabeth Cox, and Frances Sumerford Barringer.

Mrs. Williams died Wednesday, April 25, in a New York hospital after an illness. She was born
in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Jack and Emma Nelson. She received her education in the public schools of Chesterfield County and was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Hester Williams of New Rochelle, N.Y.; a son, William (Mary) Williams Jr. of McBee; a sister, Annie Lee Horton of McBee and four grandchildren.
DAWSON BROWN
Graveside services for Dawson Edward Brown, 80, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001, at the Kelleytown Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home with the Rev. Gary Anderson, pastor, officiating.
Mr. Brown died April 22. He was born
in Elliott, S.C. a son of the late Dawson F. and Mary Linton Brown. He attended school in Elliott and was owner of MADA Fruit Sales in New Jersey. He also operated Scooter's Ranch in Hartsville and was a mechanic with Pan American Air Lines. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ellen Owens of Sumter and Mrs. Evelyn Shobe of Mobile, Ala.; and one brother, Marion Leon Brown of Hartsville.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Carolyn Vickie Gardner.
JESSIE WATFORD SR.
DARLINGTON - Graveside services for Jessie Lee Watford Sr., 76, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Black Creek Church Cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Mr. Watford died Thursday. He was born
in Darlington County and was the son of the late Ben T. and Eula Lee Watford. He attended Darlington County schools. Mr. Watford was a retired farmer and greens keeper at the Darlington County Club.
Mr. Watford was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy G. Watford, in 1978, and his son, Bobby C. Watford Sr., in 2000.
Survivors include four sons, Kenneth (Joleen) Watford of Bowling Green, Ky., Donald (Jo Ann) Watford of Society Hill, Lynnwood (JoAnn) Watford Sr. and Jessie Lee (Jay Bird) Watford Jr., both of Darlington; one daughter, Frances May (Bobby) Lee of Darlington; two brothers, Louie T. Watford of Springville, N.C., and Grady L. Watford of Darlington; two sisters, Ethel Mae Doriety of Darlington and Juanita Flowers of Hartsville; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 this evening, April 27, at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas R. and Sharon Camp, Douglas R. and Mary Camp, all of Macedon, N.Y., Paul R. and Roberta Camp of Spartanburg; daughter and son-in-law, Sherralyn and William Smith Longyear of Macedon, N.Y., Donnie Mitts of Hawaii; brothers, William M. LAMAR Services for Mrs. Fannie Lee Johnson were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Emmanuel Community Church with the Rev. Timothy Ballard Sr. presiding. Burial was held in the Sandy Grove Church Cemetery with professional services entrusted to Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Sunday, April 29, at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, near the town of Lamar, and was a daughter of the late Lawton and Bessie Rivers Mixon. She was educated in the public schools and worked with her family farm for much of her early life. She was married
to the late Boyd Johnson Sr. in 1938 and together they parented six children, three of whom survive her. She, like her family before her, was a lifetime member of the Sandy Grove United Methodist Church. As a member of her beloved church she served in many capacities, most notably with the United Methodist Women and as a communion stewardess. Recently, she changed her membership to the Outreach Community Church of Lamar. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Start Faithful Workers Chapter #229 of Lamar and she was also a member of the Royal Knights and Ladies Knights.
Survivors are two sons, Lovell "Bob" (Helen) Johnson and Boyd (Clara) Johnson, both of Lamar; a daughter, Shirley (Otis) McDaniel Sr. of Timmonsville; one brother, Woster (Jessie Mae) Mixon of Lamar; one sister, Carrie Fields of Richmond, Va.; 28 grandchildren; two of whom were raised as her children, Georgette Williams and Shirley (Furnice) Mack; 61 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
