MARGUERITE CLEMENTS
LAMAR – Graveside services for Marguerite Mims Clements, 83, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2001, in the Lamar Cemetery directed by Layton-Anderson Funeral Home of Florence. The Revs. John Stephenson and William Taylor officiated. Mrs. Clements died Saturday, April 28, after an illness. She was born
in Lamar, a daughter of the late Priestley G. and Zada M. Mims. She was the widow of Dudley M. Clements.
Mrs. Clements was one of South Carolina's earlier fully-certified special education teachers. She received her specialized training at Appalachian University at the onset of North Carolina's public special education program. While teaching in New York she became a team member of a prestigious project involving disabled preschoolers. This program was designed to educate the total child by intervention at an early age. She was responsible for the fine arts program, including art and art appreciation, music and music appreciation, drama and early literature.
For 10 years she owned and operated a private kindergarten in Lamar. She attended Will of Faith Southern Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at Darlington County Historical Association and the Manna House in Florence.
Surviving are a son, Guy (Clare) Clements; a daughter, Gay (Steve) Tallon; four grandchildren, Angie Clements Eaddy, Amy Clements Barnhill, Jenifer Tallon McPherson and Ashley Tallon; and two great-grandchildren, Tallon McPherson and Merideth Tallon. She was predeceased by two brothers, Priestly Mims Jr. and William Z. (Billy) Mims; and a sister, Doris A Mims.
LOUISE BROWN
Services for Louise Brown, 86, will be held at 4 p.m. today, May 2, 2001, in Green Hill Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown died Friday, April 27, in Morrell Memorial Convalescent Center after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Henry Coot and Shirley Graham. She received her education in Darlington County public schools and was a member of Green Hill Baptist Church.
Surviving are two aunts, Josephine Fields of Charlotte, N.C., and Oliver Bell Pendergrass of Philadelphia, Pa.; a special niece and nephew, Richard and Essie Goodson of Darlington.
MRS. THEO JOHNSON
Services for Mrs. Theo Johnson were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001, at Greenhill Baptist Church with the Rev. Earl J. Timmons, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery, entrusted to Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Johnson died Wednesday, April 25, in Carolina Pines Medical Center after an illness. She was born
in Darlington County, a daughter of the late Willie and Violet Bull Johnson. She was educated in the public schools and was employed with Fifth Street Cleaners of Hartsville for many years until her health failed. She had a great love for children and took pride and joy in raising children within her family and community. Theo's singing was known throughout the Hartsville community. She was first a member of Second Baptist Church and later joined Greenhill Baptist Church where she continued her services.
Survivors are two sons, George Johnson and Joey Johnson, both of Hartsville; a daughter, Edwina Johnson Martin of Hartsville; three sisters, Lila Johnson, Delores Shaw and Charlena Johnson, all of Hartsville; three brothers, Jessie Johnson of Florence, Frank Johnson and Howard Johnson, both of Hartsville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two aunts, Julia Bull of Charlotte, N.C., and Louise Isaac of Darlington.
LAWTON STOKES
Graveside services for Charles Lawton Stokes, 73, were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2001, in Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Carroll Pope officiated and Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home was in charge. Memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
Mr. Stokes died Friday, April 27. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of the late Frank Roland and Della Collins Stokes. He was retired from Sonoco Products Company with 44 years of service and was a member of the Old Timers Club. His favorite hobby was fox hunting.
Surviving are his wife, Pat Goodson Stokes of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Earl and Kem Stokes of Lamar, Marshall and Carlene Stokes of Bethune, Danny and Phoebe Stokes of Lamar; brothers, George Stokes and Bobby Gene Stokes of Hartsville; sisters, Mary Norwood of Hartsville and Margaret Abbott of Darlington; an uncle, Grover Collins of Dovesville; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
WILLIAM McSPARREN
Services for William (Bill) Ivan McSparren, 70, were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2001, at John Wesley Methodist Church with the Revs. John C. Smith, Jim Murray and Keith Spake officiating. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.
Mr. McSparren died Saturday, April 28. He was born
in Pennsylvania, a son of the late David and Anetta Bell McSparren. He was owner of McSparren Painting & Wallpaper Co., and was a member of John Wesley Methodist Church and a veteran of WWII.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Linda Koster McSparren of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Joanne and Robert Ludwick of Hartsville and Diana Stumpf of Asheville; son and daughter-in-law, Maj. Bradley and Jessica Stumpf of Hampton, Va.; grandchildren, Casey and Erika Ludwick of Hartsville.

MOLLIE STAFFORD
Services for Mollie J. Stafford, 80, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ronnie Caulder and Glenn White will officiate with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, May 2, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Stafford died Monday, April 30. Born in Chesterfield County, she was a daughter of the late James Duncan and Mary Wilkes Campbell.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Cynthia Stafford of Patrick; and three grandchildren, Sabrina Stafford, Vicky Goatley and Joshua Goatley.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra Carroll Stafford.
REV. W. T. LISENBY
DARLINGTON – Services for the Rev. W. T. Lisenby, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 3, 200, 1 in the First Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
The Rev. Lisenby was born
November 13, 1916 in Scotland County and was the son of the late Daniel and Sally Lisenby. He received a bachelor of Theology from Holmes Bible College in Greenville and was an ordained minister of the South Carolina Conference. He pastored many churches in South and North Carolina and at the time of his death was the associate minister at First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Darlington. He also taught the Fellowship Bible Class.
The Rev. Lisenby is survived by his wife, Venice Lisenby of the home; one son, William G. Lisenby of Columbia; two daughters, Patsy L. (Barry) Farmer of Mooresville, N.C., and Lynn L. (Jim) Chrapek of Murrells Inlet; one sister, Emma Charles; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight, May 2, from 7 to 9 at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

ALBERT B. HOWLE
DARLINGTON – Services for Albert Broadus Howle, 87, will be held at 4 p. m. today, May 4, 2001, at Swift Creek Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Howle died on Wednesday, May 2, in a local hospital after an illness. He was born
on May 14, 1913, in Darlington County to the late Albert Barnwell and Valeria Blackwell Howle. He attended Darlington County schools. Mr. Howle was a lifetime member of Swift Creek Baptist Church, the Woodrow Lewis Sunday School Class, and was the church treasurer for many years. He was owner and operator of the Thriftway Supermarket until his retirement. Mr. Howle was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and he loved being with his family and tinkering in his shop.
Survivors include his wife, Eunice Rhodes Howle of the home; two daughters, Jane Howle Mozingo of Hartsville and Joyce Howle Griggs of Darlington; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hicks died Saturday, April 28, 2001. Born in Florence County, she was a daughter of the late Luther L. and Sue Campbell Collins. She was a member of St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Heyward Gandy of Hartsville, Onnie and Robert Norris of Locust Grove, Okla.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
