DARLINGTON Services for Charles Edward Barnes, 52, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, at Calvary Baptist Church with burial in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. The family will receive friends this evening, May 16, from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mr. Barnes died Monday, May 14, in a local hospital after an illness. He was born
in Sumter County and was the son of the late Samuel Smith Barnes and Susie Inez Phillips. A U.S. Army veteran, he served his country in the Vietnam War. Mr. Barnes was employed as a transporter by Overnight Transportation. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for fifth and sixth grades and AWANA Ministries for children (Pal's Division) and served on many committees. His hobbies included ceramics, painting, crafts, gardening, fishing and camping.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Jones Barnes, of the home; two sons, Charles (Amanda) Barnes Jr. of Marion and Timothy (Stephanie) Barnes of Middleton, Tenn.; one step-son, William "Boogie" (Kim) Moree of Hartsville; one step-daughter, Tammy (Timmy) Drotar of Hartsville; one brother, S. Dennis (Vickie) Barnes of Conway; two sisters, Shirley J. Blackmon of Darlington and Debra S. (Gary) Creswell of Elgin; five grandchildren, Dustin Moree, John Moree, Cayla Drotar, Jeremy Hunter Barnes and Josh Drotar.
ANNIE MAE AMERSON
LAMAR Graveside services for Annie Mae Amerson, 84, will be held at 2 p.m. today, May 16, 2001, in Zion Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home, Lamar Chapel.
Mrs. Amerson died Sunday in a Florence nursing home after an illness.
She was born
in Florence County, the daughter of the late James and Addie Scott Ham. She was married
to the late Jack C. Amerson. She was a former employee of Sonoco and a member of Lamar United Methodist Church and the Old Timer's Club.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
JAMES HOWLE
DARLINGTON Services for James Edward Howle, 50, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home with interment following in Darlington Memory Gardens.
Mr. Howle died Saturday, May 12. He was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Phoebe Flowers Howle and the late Otis Edward Howle. He was a resident of the Saleeby Center.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Darlington are one brother, Marion Otis (Claudia) Howle of Florence; three sisters, Mrs. Robert (Mildred H.) Raines of Darlington, Shirley Howle and Kathy Howle, both of Hartsville; also several nieces and nephews.
FLOREE LUCAS
LYDIA Mrs. Floree Lucas died on Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at her residence after an extended illness. The family will receive friends at 2533 Clements St., Lydia. Hines Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Services for Floree "Tootie" Lucas were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 13, 2001, at New Bethel Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Professional services were entrusted to Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lucas was born
in Lee County, a daughter of the late Davenport Chavis and the late Victoria Huggins. She was married
to the late Harvey Lucas on January 13, 1940, and to this union 10 children were born, all of whom survive her. Not only did she raise her birth children, she also raised two of her grandsons as her own, James C. Lucas and Harvey J. Moses. She was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church and also served on the Missionary Society and was the Mother of the Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Lillian Arthur, Carolyn Sherman and Clory Williams, all of Lydia, and Annie Carraway of Wilming-ton, N.C.; six sons, Willie Lucas and John Lucas, both of Meriden, Conn., Russell Lucas of Hartsville, Harold Lucas of Florence, Larry Lucas and Edgar Lucas, both of Lydia; an adopted daughter, Mae Prescott of Hartsville; a brother, Hodges Holloman of Elliott; 26 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
ROBERT KING
Services for Robert Emmanuel King, 85, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, at the Dwyer Funeral Home Chapel, Tarrytown, N.Y., with burial in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home is in charge of local announcements. Mr. King died Sunday, May 13. Born in Carlock, Ill., he was a son of the late Charles C. and Clare Stutzman King. He was a graduate of Illinois State University at Normal, Ill. He and his wife were longtime residents of North Tarrytown and moved to Hartsville in 1996. He was a member of the Second Reformed Church. Mr. King served on the Tarrytown YMCA board of directors from 1966 to 1979 and was the president from 1977 to 1979. He also served on the board of directors for the Tarrytown Art of the Nativity.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Wilma Shouse King of Hartsville; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Barbara King of Rancho Mirage, Calif., Michael and Dawn King of Roanoke, Va; daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne King of Stratford, Conn., Diane and Raymond McGowan of Hartsville, Cheryl and Thomas Riendeau of Guilderland, N.Y.; and five grandchildren, Sean McGowan, Meghan McGowan, Michael King Jr., Christopher King and Laura King.
HART HOOKER
Graveside services for James Harvey (Hart) Hooker, 33, were held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Westview Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Tim Steen officiated the burial directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Hooker died Sunday, May 13. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Marvin Dyer and Bobbie Jean Gilbert Hooker. He was the manager of Ruth's Drive-In, a member of the Hartsville Moose Lodge #1770 and the Hartsville Masonic Lodge #173.
Surviving are his son, Justin Garrett McManus of Hartsville; father and mother of Hartsville; brother, Marvin Dyer "Little Doc" Hooker Jr.; sisters and brother-in-law, William F. and Angela Stokes, Marvene H. Rowland, all of Hartsville; several nieces and nephews; and fiance Danielle Gibson of Darlington.
WAYNE DUVAL
Mass of Christian burial for Wayne Howard Duval, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Father Arturo O. Dalupang, Celebrant. Final commendation and farewell prayers will be in Magnolia Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. A prayer vigil and visitation will be held this evening, from 6 to 8 at the funeral home. Mr. Duval died Sunday, May 13. Born in Springfield, Vt., he was a son of the late Emery and Lillian St. Germain Duval. He was a founding and longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church prior to moving to Nokomis, Fla. He was plant manager of Hartsville Manufacturing for 24 years, president of the Southern Division Cotton City Industries, and president of Red Fox Apparel. He was a member of the Lions Club, B & F Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, Rita Duval of Nokomis, Fla.; son and daughter-in-law, James and Charlene Duval of Lexington, S.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Anne and Jack Keshishian of Tucson, Ariz., Kay and Robert Jordan of Johnsonville, S.C, Joan Duval of Charlotte, N.C., Mary and Skip Wallace of Nashville, Tenn.; Pat and Albert Flowers of Raleigh, N.C., Susan and Burton Spraker of Orlando, Fla.; step-son, Roy Frye of Alaska; step-daughters and spouse, Jackie Seceliano of Osprey, Fla., Sandy and Merle Baer of Ballwin, Mo.; and 16 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife of 52 years, Anna Boyle Duval.
PATRICIA A. MORAN
DARLINGTON Services for Patricia Annette Moran, 57, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2001, in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Moran died Monday, May 14, after an illness.
Mrs. Moran was born
in Charlotte, N.C., on Aug. 5, 1943. She was the daughter of Frank Hillman and the late Faye Hodge Hillman. Mrs. Moran was retired from McLeod Regional Medical Center after 20 years of service, where she was a ward secretary for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Mrs. Moran loved her family immensely and was affectionately known as "Maw Maw." She also enjoyed gardening.
Mrs. Moran was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel C. Moran Jr., in 1997.
Survivors include her father, Frank Hillman of Salisbury, N.C.; two sons, Tim Moran of Timmonsville and Kevin (Debora) Moran of Pamplico; three daughters, Kathy (Meredith) Ransom of Lawrenceville, Ga., Pam (Randy) Lawhon of Timmonsville and Mindy (Greg) Edwards of Darlington; two sisters, Barbara (Joe) Hitesman of Monroe, N.C., and Sandra (Jim) Barley of Pineville, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Wesley Ransom, Krystynna Ransom, Katelyn Patricia Ransom, Brandon Edwards, Mallory Edwards, Mandy McGee and Randy Patrick Lawhon; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 17, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.

PAUL W. SHORE
PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. Services for Paul W. Shore, 69, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 11, 2001, at the New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville, Ga., with Dan Biggers and the Rev. John Horton officiating.
Mr. Shore died Tuesday, May 8. He was born
in Turnerville, Ga., a son of the late John R. and Pauline Dawkins Shore. He retired from National Security Agency and was a member of the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs. He was also a member of the New Hope Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Patricia Legg Shore of Peachtree City, Ga.; two daughters, Laurie Shore and Jennifer Shore, both of Peachtree City, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. E. L. Bellinetti of Clarksville, Ga.; and one brother, Doyle W. Shore of Hartsville.

Services for Jerry Preston Grantham, 50, will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. Mr. Grantham died Tuesday, May 15. Born in Darlington County, he was a son of Julia Grantham Grantham and the late George Nathan Preston Grantham. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church. He was employed with Sonoco Products Co. and was a member of the Old Timers Club.
Surviving are his wife, Connee Gamble Grantham of Hartsville; sons, Preston Grantham of Florence and Robert Grantham of Hartsville; mother and step-father, Julia and Dee Stokes of Lydia; sister, Gale Hoffman of Lydia; and grandson, Nathan Grantham.
