EVANS P. HARRIS
Services for Evans Paul Harris will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, at the Second Baptist Church of Hartsville with the Rev. J. D.Blue, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery with professional services directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris died Friday, Aug. 3, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born
in a farming community in Darlington County near Hartsville, one of 11 children of the late Arthur and Lois Agnes Jones Harris. He was educated in the public schools and attended Butler High School. After high school he served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. After separating from military service he worked for the Boeing Aircraft Co. of Seattle, Wash., where he remained for some 16 years. When he relocated to his native Hartsville, he met and married
Leola Kelly and together they raised five children, all of whom survive him. He was employed with Smith concrete for several years and later with Fiber Industries for some 10 years until his health declined. Mr. Harris was raised in a Christian home and was first a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He later joined and served the Second Baptist Church of Hartsville.
Survivors include his wife, Leola Harris of Bridgeport, Conn.; four daughters, Lacey Harris and Shermeka (Dwayne) Brown, both of Hartsville, Phyllis Harris of Tacoma, Wash., and Deborah (Calvin) Gee of Stratford, Conn.; two sons, Chad Harris of Hartsville and Dwayne (Rosa) Kelly of Richmond, Va.; four sisters, Sarah McCollough and Ernestine (Felton) Lighty, both of Hartsville, Hallie Johnson of Far Rockaway, N.Y., and Arthur Lee Williams of Patterson, N.J.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and very dear friends.
JOHN EDDY
Memorial services for John Wesley Eddy, 37, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, at the Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John C. Smith officiated.
Mr. Eddy died Tuesday, July 31, 2001. Born in Michigan, he was a son of Charles Ted and Marilyn Macon Eddy. He was a deputy sheriff for Chesterfield County, a former Hartsville police officer, and served in the U.S. Navy. He liked helping people.
Surviving are his wife, Lucy Hutchinson Eddy of Hartsville; son, John Charles Eddy of Hartsville; daughters, Cynthia Eddy and Patricia L. Eddy of Hartsville; mother and father of Mobile, Ala.; brother, Jerry Eddy of Mobile, Ala.; sisters, Glenda Owen of Manistique, Mich., and Sandy Burch and Ginny Brewer, both of Mobile, Ala.
ALBERT E. HIXON
DARLINGTON – Services for Albert E. Hixon, 79, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, in the chapel of Belk Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. in Olympia Cemetery in Columbia. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at the home on 1224 Harry Bryd Hwy., Darlington.
Mr. Hixon died Tuesday, Aug. 7, in a Florence hospital after an illness. He was a retired manager of Darlington County Water Works. He was born
in Laurens Country the son of the late Abe and Lucy Hinson Hixon. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ila Mae Frye Porter Hixon of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula H. and Pat Edgar of Lexington and Alice H. and Wayne Carroll of Gaston; a step-daughter, Mrs. Carlos (Patricia) Bailey of Camden; a step-son, Ronnie (Janice) Porter of Garden City; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Alice Mayweathers of Aurora, Colo.; and a step-sister, Leona Skinner of Columbia.

A.D. LOVELACE JR.
Funeral services for Asa Dowe "A.D." Lovelace Jr. were held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Grover Johnson officiated with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home.
Mr. Lovelace died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2001. Born in Kings Mountain, N.C., he was a son of the late Asa Dowe and Lilly Dover Lovelace. He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church, a Veteran of WW II, a member of Hartsville Masonic Lodge # 173, and was retired from Sonoco Products Co.
Surviving are his wife, Arie McBee Lovelace of Hartsville; sons and daughter-in-law, Richard and Genia Lovelace and Tim Lovelace all of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Karen and William Catoe and Darlene Long all of Hartsville; brothers, J. G. Lovelace of Hartsville, Billy Lovelace of McBee and Perry Lovelace of Darlington; sisters, Iva Sowell of McBee, Mae Hilderbrand of Hartsville, Margaret Ann Miller of Lancaster, Pa., Carolyn Lankford of Hartsville, Rhea Jones of Hartsville; 10 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Tommy Lovelace, and his sister, Millie Bunch.
LEA D. HUNT
DARLINGTON – Graveside services for Lea Dickerson Hunt, 29, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Aug. 8, 2001, in Florence Memorial Gardens directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home of Darlington.
Mrs. Hunt died Sunday, Aug. 5, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. She was born
in Florence County and was the daughter of Leon R. Dickerson Jr. and Christie Rhodes Watts. Mrs. Hunt was a 1989 graduate of Wilson High School, a graduate of Florence-Darlington Technical College and was employed with Hartsville Family Health Care. She loved her job and family and was a devoted wife and mother.
Survivors include her husband, Kevin Jamison Hunt and son, Jamison Dylan Hunt, both of the home, her parents, Leon R. Dickerson Jr. of Florence and Christie Rhodes (Ted "Chipper") Watts of Tabor City, N.C.; three brothers, Christopher T. Watts and Dow Watts, both of Tabor City, N.C., and Trey Watts of Florence; paternal grandparents, Leon R. Sr. and Elizabeth Buie Dickerson of Florence; a maternal grandfather, Mike (Irene) Rhodes of Mullins; father- and mother-in-law, Gerald (Rena Hunt) Taylor of Florence; a brother-in-law, Ryan Hunt of Florence; a sisters-in-law, Kayla Taylor of Florence; and three special aunts, Cathy Brown, Mary Critcher and Harriett Evans, all of Florence. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Doris Rhodes.

BESSIE C. WATFORD
DARLINGTON – Services for Bessie Cooper Watford, 88, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, in the First Freewill Baptist Church. Burial followed in Darlington Memory Gardens directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mrs. Watford died Saturday, Aug. 4, in a Florence hospital after an illness. She was born
in Ridgeway, S.C. on March 15, 1913, a daughter of the late Brooks C. and Iva Wright Cooper. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church for over 50 years and was a member of the Ladies Sunday School Class. She enjoyed babysitting, cooking, and socializing with her friends.
Mrs. Watford was the widow of the late Leon H. Watford and was also preceded in death by five brothers, James Cooper, Mills Cooper, Ernest Cooper, Harry Cooper, Ralph B. Cooper and one grandson, Edwin Harold Lloyd Jr.
Surviving are one son, Charles H. (Marlene) Watford of Lancaster; two daughters, Betty W. (Harold) Lloyd and Peggy (Dexter) Patrick, both of Darlington; two sisters, Margie Hudson of Chester and Ruby Braziel of Columbia; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

BEAUFORD AMMONS
DARLINGTON – Services for Beauford Maurice "Reecie" Ammons, 43, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2001, in the Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Grove Hill Cemetery, directed by Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home.
Mr. Ammons died Monday, Aug.. 6. He was born
in Darlington County on Sept. 20, 1957 and was the son of Maurice Earl and Barbara Segars Ammons. He was employed with Smurfit Stone of Florence and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Ammons was a graduate of St. John's High School in 1975 and was selected by his fellow teammates as the recipient of the "Jerome F. Pate" Football Award his senior year. He was also a graduate of Presbyterian College in 1980 with a degree in history. While attending Presbyterian College he was awarded the "NAIA Player of the Week" for his outstanding performance in a football game. He was the first football player from Darlington to go to the Shrine Bowl in many years. Mr. Ammons enjoyed collecting historical relics and he loved animals. He also played softball for Black Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Earl (Barbara) Ammons of Darlington; and one sister, Alice (Robert) Amos of Darlington.

LORA D. KIRKLEY
JEFFERSON – Services for Lora D. Kirkley, 88, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at the Jefferson Church of God with burial in Fork Creek Methodist Cemetery, directed by Sutton Funeral Home of Pageland.
Mrs. Kirkley died Tuesday, Aug. 7, at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late John R. and Margaret Jowers Demby and the wife of J. L. Kirkley. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jefferson Church of God.
Survivors include a son, Wylie Kirkley of Jefferson; two daughters, Margaret Cable of Ruby and Manda Campbell of Hartsville; a sister, Lillian D. Oliver of Jefferson; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

EUNETHA KING
Services for Eunetha King, 80, were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, in Harold L. & Dorothy J. Young Memorial Chapel. Burial was in Mount Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Young & Young Funeral Home.
Mrs. King died Wednesday, Aug. 1, in McLeod Regional Medical Center after an illness. She was born
in Chesterfield County, a daughter of the late Eddie and Carrie People Roger. She received her education in Chesterfield County public schools and retired from Byerly Hospital after many years of service.
Surviving are three daughters, Jacquelyn Brown of Jersey City, N.J., Joe Everette Alford of Florence and Gernice (Rev. Isaiah) Woods of Philadelphia, Pa.; two sons, Neil King and Gill Myran King, both of Jersey City, N.J.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and other close relatives and friends.
