LAMAR – Louise Haynes Prince died on Monday, Sept. 3, 2001, in a local hospital. The family will receive visitors at the residence at 1325 Fisherman Road, the home of her son Bobby L. Prince. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hines Funeral Home.

Mrs. Louise Prince of Hartsville died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, in Florence Convalescent Center after an extended illness.

The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter-in-law, Teresa Prince, of 1313 Lide Spring Road, Darlington.
JAMES H. GANDY
DARLINGTON – Services for James Hartwell Gandy, 93, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at First Church of God. Interment will follow with Masonic Rites in Grove Hill Cemetery directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will have a memorial service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13 at Salisbury Gardens.
Mr. Gandy was born
in Chesterfield County, the son of the late Isaiah and Charlotte Adams Gandy. He was married
to the late Juanita Moody Gandy. Mr. Gandy served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and went on to work in the trucking industry for many years. Mr. Gandy was a member of the Cheraw Masonic Lodge 15 for 53 years and a member of First Church of God.
Survivors are a son, J.D. (Dorothy) Gandy of Salisbury, N.C.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Daisy Bryant, Rhorie Preslar, Chessie Lewis, Clara Coleman and Sadie Coker; and his special nurse, Barbara Cornwell.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Wednesday, at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Blanche Reaves Kissiah, 92, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Lakeview Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Boswell will officiate with the burial in Swift Creek Baptist Church Cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Lamar Rescue Squad.
Mrs. Kissiah, widow of John H. Kissiah, W. A. Watkins and Wallace Lunn, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2001. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Fannie King Reaves. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law; Tom and Margaret Lunn of Camden, Jim Lunn of Hartsville, Larry and Glenda Kissiah of Hartsville; daughters and son-in-law, Sybil Langston of Hartsville, Brenda and Tracy Phillips of Lamar; grandchildren, Gail Aldrich, Mark Lunn, Kim Hayden, Tony Lunn, Lori Easterling, Tara Phillips, Tray Phillips, Theresa Lunn, Amy Kissiah, Joey Kissiah; eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Cleve Lunn.

BISHOPVILLE – Funeral services for Harriett Lawton Byrd Peele, 75, were held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at St. Matthews United Methodist Church. Mrs. Peele, widow of Lucas R. Peele Sr., died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2001. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Edward Jerry and Beulah Dukes Byrd. She was an active member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, a graduate of Coker College, and was an active volunteer with Kalmia Gardens.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Pat Peele of Bishopville; daughter and son-in-law, Adele and Stephen Olson of Quincy, Fla; brothers, Orren Byrd, Gary Byrd, Merlin Byrd, all of Hartsville; sisters, Elizabeth Watson of Florence, Jewell Sherron of Piedmont, S.C.; and grandchild, Heather Olson.

LAMAR – Services for LeRoy Goodson were held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at the Bethany Baptist Church of Lamar with the Rev. Emanuel Simon, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Plaza Memorial Gardens directed by Hines Funeral Home.
Mr. Goodson was born
in Darlington County, a son of the late Willie and Mollie Joe Goodson. He was raised by his stepmother, Rebecca Goodson and was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. He was married
to Mary Jane Bess Goodson and worked at RBC Bearing of Hartsville.
Survivors are his wife of the home; three sons, Andre Goodson of Florence, Anthony Goodson of Greenville and Deon Goodson of Lamar; three children raised as his own, Charlie Lee Goodson, Billy Goodson and Tyrone Hicks, all of Lamar; a sister, Annie Lee McDaniel of Bishopville; a brother, Claudis (Harriett) Goodson of Petersburg, Va.; and step-mother, Rebecca Goodson of Lamar.

LAMAR - Services for Louise Prince Haynes were held at 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Savannah Grove AME Church with the Rev. J. E. Dukes, pastor, officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with professional services entrusted to Hines Funeral Home.
Mrs. Haynes died Monday, Sept. 3, in a local hospital after an extended illness. She was born
in the Manning area of Clarendon County, a daughter of the late Anderson and Betsy Tomlin Prince. She was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. She was married
early in life to the late Henry McDaniel. She was employed as a cook with the Bill Crosby Restaurant in Gable, S.C. and as a farmer. She was a member of Mabina Presbyterian Church in Sardina, S.C. After moving to Lamar, she joined Savannah Grove AME Church where she served on the Missionary Society, the Gospel Choir and as a stewardess.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby L. Prince and Wilbert Prince, both of Lamar; three step-children, Levern (Millie) McDaniel and Minnie Lee McDaniel, both of Patterson, N.J. and Mary McDaniel of Florence; one sister, Rosa Lee James of Baltimore, Md; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and very dear friends.
ELMA MELTON
OATES - Services for Elma Sturgeon Melton, 93, were held at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Elim United Methodist Church. The Rev. Pat McCain officiated with burial in the church cemetery directed by Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Elim United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Melton died Wednesday, Sept. 5. Born in Darlington County, she was a daughter of the late Louie and Minnie Moncrief Sturgeon. She was a member of Elim United Methodist Church and the Elim Senior Citizens. She retired from Sonoco Products Co. and was a resident of Bethea Baptist Retirement Community.
Surviving are her grandchildren, Carl Watkins of Hartsville, Wanda Hamilton of Darlington, Candy Henry of Mechanicsville, Va., Glenn Melton of Florence, Robbie Melton of Charlotte, N.C.; 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
RICHARD E. CHURCH
DARLINGTON - Services for Richard Everett Church, 66, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, in the chapel of Kistler-Hardee Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Mechanicsville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening, Sept. 7, from 7 to 9.
Mr. Church died Wednesday, Sept. 5, at his residence after an extended illness. He was born
in Mooresville, N.C. on Dec. 27, 1934. He was a son of the late Everett and Gertie Leona Miller Church. He retired as fleet supervisor from APAC Carolina. Mr. Church enjoyed fishing, gardening and taking care of his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Elliott Church of the home; seven daughters, Karen (Billy) Simerson, Phyllis (Charles) Swink, and Brenda (George) Powers, all of Lexington, N.C., Donna (Eddie) Sansbury, Tywanda Church, Rita Church and Jamie Wilson, all of Darlington; three sons, Mark (Michelle) Church of Lexington, N.C., Bruce (Valynn) Church of Utah and Sammy (Sharon) McBride of Darlington; two brothers, the Rev. Vernon Church and Ernest Church of Lexington, N.C.; two sisters, Daffney Byrd of Lexington, N.C., and Dorothy Tickle of Martinsville, Va.; 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

LUCILE W. McMILLAN
LAMAR - Services for Lucile Warr McMillan of Lamar will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Lamar with interment following in Lamar Cemetery.
Mrs. McMillan died Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Bethea Baptist Home. She was born
on Jan. 31, 1911, a daughter of the late E. P. Warr and Nettie Baker Warr. She was predeceased by a brother, O. L. Warr. Mrs. McMillan graduated from Lamar High School in 1928 and attended Coker College and the University of South Carolina, studying music. She was a talented pianist, homemaker and co-operator of the family farm. Mrs. McMillan was a lifelong member of the Lamar Baptist Church. She was married
to the late Claude McMillan and they had two children; the late Willis E. McMillan and Harriet M. Hill; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Harriet and Jessie Hill of Marion; their daughters and granddaughters, Laura and Kyle Johnson and Claudia of Atlanta, Ga., Susan and Bill Mason and Amanda of Bay City, Texas. She is also survived by Dianne McMillan, wife of the late Willis McMillan of Irmo and their sons and grandsons, Doug and Lisa McMillan, James, Scott and Jamie of Lamar; Drew and Susan McMillan of Atlanta, Ga. and West McMillan of Lamar.
